New (and probably) final thread for those of us due in March (with a few lovely February ladies who didn't want to leave).

Sorry girls? GBS? Is that the strep B one? If you paid privately, how did you go about it?

m33r · 08/02/2015 15:22

That's a great way to look at it shelley Smile

bouncesky · 08/02/2015 17:03

Here is a link to the website about Group B Strep. It has a list of different providers who will do the test privately. A test pack gets sent out to you, you take the swabs and then send them back.

Hi all just reading through all the posts havent been on for a while (shattered with work!)
I found out I had gbs accidentally at about 16 weeks so have to go to hospital as soon as labour starts to get antibiotics. Reading the information they sent me im shocked they dont offer it on nhs, and many people havent heard of it. Its much safer to know if you have it, so I would pay and get tested, I'll be telling my pregnant friends about it.

No braxton hicks (im 33 weeks) but period like cramps....does anyone know what they are for?!

Work is getting so difficult! 3 weeks till I finish!

Wishing you all the best North, and good luck getting the bfp x

Hi all
Bouncesky I have had a baby born with gbs infection. I didn't have a clue I was a carrier and it was areal shock that I passed this in to my son. He was very poorly at birth but has made a full recovery Smile
As you know you are a carrier you are in a great position. You can have iv antibiotics in labour which will protect your baby. I will be having them this time as well. The advice I've been given is to get to hospital asap as soon a srom or I think I'm in labour as my last one I was only in the hospital 2 hours. Forewarned is forearmed and at least you can look for information. The gbs support website is great for info.
The nhs does not routinely test for gbs as only approx 1000 babies are affected annually. However that does make it the most common cause of infection in newborns.

DurhamRed · 08/02/2015 19:13

Just had a look at the site for the GBS test, looks like my hospital is one of the few that does the test on request...Will ask my MW tomorrow or at antenatal clinic next week to have the test.

M27J5M · 08/02/2015 19:35

Durham I ended up in hosp for a few hours, turns out I was badly dehydrated so had to get a few bags of fluids and eat etc before they'd let me home, and turns out dehydration can make braxton hicks worse/stronger :/

m33r · 08/02/2015 21:05

Very useful info girls! I love MN! bounce can you post the link (or the web address) please? Thanks again!

bouncesky · 09/02/2015 06:28

Here is the website for gbs information gbss.org.uk

Thanks 3 for sharing your story. It certainly does make you wonder why the NHS don't tell more people about it!

Life, if Zyla is the person I'm thinking of from the facebook page, I think her BP is all fine now so no need to be induced thankfully :)

3 weeks today til my c section, last growth scan tomorrow and consultant app on Friday :)

I'm literally all set now for baby coming. Only thing I need to sort is baby toiletries? My MIL has bought us LOADS of Johnsons baby stuff, but I'm not, nor have I ever been, planning on using Johnsons. I've read online that it is not great for newborns at all! Anyone used the Simple baby range?

Finishing up work next Friday, although I have asked to work from home two days each week as I'm getting mega uncomfortable at my desk. Hopefully it comes back a yes, cant imagine why it wouldnt.

pinkandstripey · 09/02/2015 10:37

Gudgy, you really don't need baby toiletries :) babies really aren't dirty - maybe a tiny bit of pure soap if necessary, but I wouldn't (and didnt) use anything other than that until ds was something around a year old iirc.

I never used baby powder or barrier cream either and only water wipes for a long time. I have very sensitive skin and am allergic to all sorts of products so wasn't taking any chances :)

shelley1977 · 09/02/2015 10:47

gudgy we don't use any products with SLS or parabens in them. Good ones ive used with my children are pure adore and Humphreys corner, they can be bought at asda. also use halo n horns and earth friendly baby. Weleda does an amazing calendula range for babies. The nappy cream is the best ive ever used.

Lifeisabeach · 09/02/2015 11:06

Gudgy, I don't think we're thinking of the same person. Zyla was definitely being induced on Saturday at the latest as she was in hospital with pre-eclampsia. She posted a few times at the end of our last thread but hasn't posted on this one yet. Don't think she's in the facebook group.

DurhamRed · 09/02/2015 11:10

Well, its certainly been an eventful morning for me today. Started morning off with vomiting (nice to know I haven't totally got rid of hg...grrr) then had MW appointment to find out baby's growth has dipped and now have growth scan and ANC appointment booked for Weds afternoon...on top of that I've become all puffy (have trout pout...such a lovely look) and as I'm at high risk of pre eclampsia I've now to rest up for the next few days and to only go back to work if scan and Dr on weds give me the all clear...oh the joys of pregnancy!!

Pisghetti · 09/02/2015 11:50

On another thread someone recommended coconut oil as a barrier to the first meconium poo (assuming it doesn't come out during delivery) to make wiping it off easier. I can imagine it would be a fairly good barrier cream afterwards as well though if you needed one.

DurhamRed Hope everything goes ok on Wednesday. I,m still managing to avoid blood pressure problems apart from a couple of nasty spikes with headache but they came down within 6 hours. I have been told I will be induced if anything changes or baby not arrived before due date.

DurhamRed · 09/02/2015 13:53

Thanks Shelley, thankfully my bp has been OK recently as it has been on the low side for most of my pg (due to hg and dehydration). I already have my induction date (booked on due date) as they won't let me go beyond my due date either as I'm 41years old. I also have 2 appointments booked for stretch and sweeps from week 39 to try and get things going before induction...I'm hoping my little girl wants to make an appearance before any of these are necessary!

Gudgyx · 09/02/2015 14:10

Ah sorry Life, didnt realise there was more than one due to be induced at the weekend :o hope all is okay with Zyla

ZylaB · 09/02/2015 17:27

Hi, I'm here! Was induced on Friday, nothing happened to start with, then on sat it started working well until they broke my waters and put me on the hormone drip! This slowed me down, so they increased dosage lots, nothing helped and baby got a bit distressed so they decided on emcs which I had on Sunday morning. She was 6lb 6oz and was born at 36+2 weeks. Didn't have to go to neonatal and they're happy with her.

Here she is :)

Oh my goodness congratulations Zyla! I can't believe our first thread baby has arrived, it's all a bit scary now. She is absolutely gorgeous, doesn't have that crinkled up newborn look at all. Amazing!
