Hope all is ok with geeky

LittleMissSunshine33 · 07/02/2015 15:06

Oh no bang was you late with your first? I'm 39 +1 and have spent today walking, eating pineapple, bouncing on my ball and just had a bath in lavender oil ... Just one more thing to do tonight Wink Come on babies!!

Bangonthedoor · 07/02/2015 15:42

Yeah I went 2 weeks over with DD littlemiss. This feeling is rather familiar!

Katsand · 07/02/2015 16:23

Bang i was 7 days late With #1 and 6 data late With #2 so you would think that #3 would be 5 days late (Sunday 15th) but we will see :-)

GeekyHybrid · 07/02/2015 17:20

Congratulations cookie & helkat - I think I've caught up with the news.

Right, suppose I better let you all know what's been happening!!

Yesterday at 5am my waters broke but no contractions. Community midwife with student midwife in tow came to see me at 10am. Quick examination etc.. Only hind waters had gone, not forwaters and I was only 1cm dilated so they advised that monitor my temperature in case of infection and would be induced Sat morning if nothing happened. They left at 10.30.

OH was despatched to go buy a digital thermometer and pick up my lactulose from the pharmacy. At 11 I was chatting to my sister on the phone and running a bath. I had 5 minutes in the bath and never did get dressed! Hubby got home 1130 ish to find me having contractions. Ten minutes later as he was emailing his boss to say maybe he wouldn't be coming in for his late shift I was yelling that he better call the midwife triage again. The rest of my waters had gone spectacularly over the bathroom floor :-/ And I wanted to push but knew I better not until help arrived.

Original midwife and student appeared, got OH to wack the heating up and got me from bathroom to bedroom - by now there were only 30 second windows between contractions. A second community midwife, and student, arrived. Finally 3 paramedics, with entinox :-D arrived. Isaac came out at 12:57. He was a bit chilly (well the house was compared to a labour ward!), and they suspected an internal tear :-( So off to the local hospital, into theatre to repair a 2nd degree tear to the inner perineum and much mirth about the speed of delivery. Cos of op had to stay in overnight but we're (back) home now and on a positive note we've both taken to bf quite well so far. And he was taken to his 92 year old great-grandmother's on his way home.

Sorry for the epic post / birth story but everyone on maternity were going on about it. And how the students would probably never forget it - it was only their 2nd day on practicals!! PS - I know it's annoying waiting bang but be thankful you didn't start last night, by the time I was out of theatre at St Richards they were 'full' and thus on divert - you'd of ended up at Worthing or Cosham!

Surf25 · 07/02/2015 19:08

Congrats geeky! I remember being the talk of the midwife unit when I had dd1..quite funny really. Hope you recover ok from the tear. Bet it's good to be home again after all that drama! And Isaac is a lovely name. Grin

Mimosa1 · 07/02/2015 19:22

Congratulations Geeky!!!! Thanks for posting your birth story

NicLondon1 · 07/02/2015 19:32

Yes what an amazing birth story Geeky, huge congratulations!! :)

Katsand and Bang, I am in the same boat as you. ... currently having very uncomfortable contractions every 20-30mins, but I think it may still be Braxton Hicks....? To anyone who has gone into labour already, do you KNOW for sure when it starts, or is it a gradual progression..?!
(No waters yet but have heard that is not necessary either.... all a bit confusing)

Bangonthedoor · 07/02/2015 19:50

Ah its so confusing isn't it nic! I would also like to know if you just KNOW when it starts even if very gentle? This morning I was so sure it was the beginning of things, then it just stopped.

Cookie1831 · 07/02/2015 20:04

Omg geeky that sounds traumatic!!congrats x

Katsand · 07/02/2015 20:39

Congrats geeky. That's a proper story :-). Well done!!!!!
Nic and bang..... My water has never broken naturally so both time they have used the "hook". With My second it started gentle but it went from 7 min between contractions to 3 min within an hour , so it changed quickly, but it wasn't painful. they told me to come in and I was then 4 cm so I knew it was happening. Obviously it became more painful as it progressed.
This is why I freaked out a bit Thursday night but I didn't go in as it wasn't getting worse so I kind of knew that I wasn't in labour. I do believe you will know when it's labour.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 07/02/2015 21:32

Wow geeky, what a birth story. Congratulations! Flowers

longbottom · 07/02/2015 22:19

What a story Geeky! Have been thinking of you!

loopsyloup · 07/02/2015 22:35

Crikey. One day spent mostly bf-ing and I've missed out on loads! Good luck to those waiting/starting to see some action and well done Geeky, what a story!

Soir can't rember who was saying this but I'm also finding be a pain. Both literally and figuratively speaking. Luckily the community mw who dropped in this morning at 9 (!) reminded about how to get a good latch but I feel like a ftm again! Didn't really think that no2 would also have to learn how to do it!

Oh and re 'knowing' that you're in labour, I didn't really admit that I was in labour until I'd been having contractions for a while - put my dd1 through bath and to bed and then ate dinner while watching Wolf Hall before I admitted what was going on!

Honeybird · 07/02/2015 23:00

Congratulations geeky!

Like many of you, confused and impatient here. Loads of braxton hicks, but I know when I'm in labour purely by the pain level. Past a certain point there ain't no going back. I know there are mothers who can get a long way into labour without really realising or while in denial but I think that's a small minority...

tweety89 · 07/02/2015 23:28

geeky what a story...! And I haven't read any birth stories yet on purpose as I want to read them as soon as I have the LO.

whyo and sandulacek, thank you both for clarifying. So spinal is better for my back probs also, good to know.

I've actually had the bloods and MRSA screens done already (even though it seems it's a bit early...Hmm) and they aren't going through with me about what I need to do/prepare. They 'save' time by giving me the brochure. Lovely... I'm noting down the no food after midnight and no water after 7am (I'm thirsty already! :)), but I'll ask the mw at the surgery on Monday whether she knows where I need to go on the day (haven't been told but it's probably on the brochure).

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 08/02/2015 04:36

DH got sickness bug! Worried that either I'll get it or his won't clear up within next couple of hours and will still be contagious when baby born Tues morn.

Anyone know what happens if I do get it, so am still contagious when I'm supposed to be having elcs?

Bangonthedoor · 08/02/2015 08:15

Oh why, I'm sorry to hear that! Is there a way that you and DC could stay somewhere else for a night or 2 to decrease your chances of getting it? I think all hospitals have different rules, but I know my local one doesn't want anyone going in to hospital for any reason if it's been less than 48 hrs since your symptoms have cleared. That also goes for anyone in your household, so even if you didn't catch it. But as I say that's our hospital alone. When did DH first come down with it?

freneticfox · 08/02/2015 08:27

What a story Geeky, thanks for sharing :)

WhyO, I have no helpful suggestions I'm afraid, but I hope your DH is feeling better soon and you manage to avoid it. If he's able, ask him to Bleach surfaces he comes into contact with (years of a sickness phobia, I'm like yoda of avoiding bugs).

Last couple of days before I have a birth story of my own. Overwhelmed already!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 08/02/2015 08:57

It was late last night that he started saying his stomach hurt, then throwing up from 11-4:40. Fingers crossed he's not been sick since then, so he will just about be 48hrs clear on Tuesday morning. Apparently at his new job on Friday there had been a few people off with a sickness bug.

Hes also been good re disinfecting everything each time he was sick. DS is luckily out of the way - he went to nanny's for the weekend to give me and Dh some rest before new baby.

Just worried now that I could have it coming. Are people contagious before they start throwing up or only once they start actually being sick? Please keep fingers crossed for me not getting it.

sandulacek · 08/02/2015 08:57

Oh no whyO. Maybe best ring the ward, my hospital is same as bang's...48 hours after clearing the symptoms. Must be difficult for you knowing how he's been helping you. Flowers
