And I'm ok cos I don't get asked out!! So I don't even have to think of an excuse Grin

Bippidee · 01/02/2015 21:24

My cast iron excuse last time (reeeeeeally can't use it this time though) was that I had a hormonal imbalance - my prolactin levels were approaching those of a lactating mother - and that my gp had advised a period of no booze to see if that would bring it down a bit.

I have no idea this time. Dry Jan was good: I reckon I can string out a couple more weeks of "penance" for breaking it a couple of times.

I think I'll use the "we're trying for another" card.

Mummyboo30 · 01/02/2015 21:45

I used that one for new year Bippidee that we were trying but couldn't be sure when we'd be successful and I didn't want the guilt! ;)

Whatabout · 01/02/2015 22:04

I got trashed on nye oops. Completely unusual for me and when I found out 5 days later I was preggo.....gulp

mspfan · 01/02/2015 22:35

Hi townsender, I'm due the same day as you. Have you got many symptoms? I've not got much apart from loads of spots, not ideal but could be worse. I'm off to the doctors tomorrow morning and a bit nervous for some reason.

I went out last week and didn't drink, said I was detoxing, but one of my friends kept asking when I was drinking again! I've got a pub crawl in a couple of weeks and don't know what I'm going to do/say. I would miss it but I really want to see my friends and getting everyone together is quite rare. Any suggestions welcome!

StillRising · 01/02/2015 22:37

Hello everyone! I'm off for a second scan tomorrow, I'll be 8+1, I'm hoping the cause of the earlier bleed is not a sub chorionic haematoma, hopefully tomorrow will provide clarity. The Midwife mentioned something about a second sac at my first scan :o
My appetite is Trojan the last while but the nausea is awful

alien11 · 02/02/2015 06:02

Good luck for you scan today rising Smile how exciting if there are two sacs!

Morning all, I've got my booking in appointment, can't remember am I supposed to fast before getting bloods?

alien11 · 02/02/2015 07:10

havetea I don't think you need to fast for normal bloods. How far are you? I haven't got booking appt until 10 weeks and no mention of bloods being taken :/

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 02/02/2015 07:14

Oh god...I've got a doctor's appt this morning. Are they going to want blood from me? I am seriously needle phobic (with good reason, I had some messed up tests when I was younger that literally bled me dry and a close friend used to cut her inner arms so I'm really funny about sharp things in that area).

Will have to put my padded suit on for the inevitable fainting... (on the plus side, at least I'll get a lie down!)

Can anyone talk to me sensible and remind me of a normal blood test?!?!? Aware I will have to get used to this... :'(

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 02/02/2015 07:17

*sensibly

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 02/02/2015 07:19

Oh good, I'm so sick the idea of leaving the house without eating some oatcakes terrifies me! I'm only 8 weeks but I'm positive they took some with DS at the booking appointment as I had to consent to which tests I wanted done - HIV etc. I'm in edinburgh maybe it's a local thing.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 02/02/2015 07:22

last night Might be worth mentioning at your booking appointment as maybe they can combine/minimise the number of times you need to get blood drawn - stress not good for you or the baby.

MyNameIsSuz · 02/02/2015 07:29

Last night, they do take blood a few times but I can't remember which appointments. It's usually the midwife though in my experience. I would probably ask at your appointment which weeks they'll be taking blood, at least then you can prepare yourself.

Whatabout · 02/02/2015 07:33

Midwife will take bloods at booking in appointment. GP usually does basically nothing.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 02/02/2015 07:49

Thanks all - if they suggest it I'm tempted to let them give it a go if I can offset it against one of the others unlikely

Not really sure what the appt is for really, just to get things going I guess?

MyNameIsSuz · 02/02/2015 07:51

It is here, it's just for a chat and get you in the system, it's the booking in with the midwife where they go through stuff in detail, weigh you etc.

alien11 · 02/02/2015 07:54

Interesting as I never had bloods at my booking appt with dd. I think all trusts do it differently. Interesting stuff! 4 weeks until my booking appt seems so long away it's like it's not real

alien11 · 02/02/2015 07:59

lastnight I wasn't keen on needles before dd but used the numerous blood tests (I had more as part of a study when pregnant) as a kind of therapy! By the end it was fine.
I always have to lay down and I haven't experienced such a bad time as you have with needles etc. It will be fine, I would defo mention it at your appt and I'm sure your mind will be put at rest.

alien11 · 02/02/2015 08:00

Ooo wonder if I'll get weighed at booking in appt! No idea what I weigh haha. ??

Whatabout · 02/02/2015 08:08

I was asked for height and weight so they can calculate BMI to see if you need a GTT or put on consultant led care (GTT if over 30 and consultant if over 35 round here).

I haven't seen a GP this time as you just self refer to the midwifes.

DeladionInch · 02/02/2015 08:10

shin definitely worse with a relentless Small to concentrate on Sad

NatalieBee · 02/02/2015 08:16

Lastnight, I'm a nurse and if someone is petrified I will talk them through what I'm doing and always give them the option to come back after they've had time to consider it a bit more, and most nurses/midwifes Ive worked with will do the same :) They will never force you to get it done right then and there, exercise your right to come back :) no point making everything super traumatic for you lovely. For me I just had bloods at booking in at 8 weeks Smile

I'm 9+6 today :o 12 weeks is approaching! Symptoms are still ongoing but nowhere near as bad since I hit 9 weeks, Thankyou placenta eh? Wink

Hope everyone's well! So much to catch up on!

Jackieharris · 02/02/2015 08:58

lastnight I have medical anxiety. Refused the blood test at booking in as I was having a panic attack. I'm now being referred to a clinical psychologist to help me so that I will be able to undergo medical tests in the future (it's not just blood tests for me but basically anything medical so at some point in my life this will need to be tackled). I'm actually really pleased at this outcome. It was never suggested during my other pregnancies when they wanted me to have blood tests and I refused.

I'd recommend you ask for a referral too. The stress of worrying about it is bad for you & the baby. Just talking about it with them put my bp at 163/92!

Also you don't necessarily need lots of blood tests. At booking the test is checking for blood type/rh, hiv, syphilis, and if you have signs of anaemia if so they will tell you to take iron supplements. I know my blood type. Don't want std checks. And am taking iron/prenatal tablets anyway prophylacticly.

There is an optional later blood test that is part of the test that indicates if you are high or low risk of Down's syndrome but it's entirely up to you to have that test, not everyone does.

Then I think if you have a normal pregnancy they will want to check for anaemia again later on.

So it's up to you to weigh up the pros and cons of having these tests. You have a right to make an informed choice, although they will try to bully you into following their procedures.

sauvblanc21 · 02/02/2015 09:42

Oh god, I've been reading all your nausea stories ladies and not really getting but -URGH - I feel rotten today. The queasiness has definitely hit me at 6+1. Fellow teachers - how are you managing?? I'm on a free right now but convinced I'm gonna be heaving throughout my lessons today, help! Xx (Also, tmi, is anyone getting bowel bother? The noises and cramps and fullness - eww!)
