Morning Ladies

Detective lovely to hear from you, I agree if you get paid for sick leave then do it... after everything you have been through I think you deserve a bloody good break!

we cleared out our loft on Saturday getting ready for the move in April and I got all the baby clothes out and washed them all.... this is now starting to get very real, I have tiny little clothes all over the house and I am leaving work on April 2nd! eeeeek really is not that long!

Good luck for scans this week, look foerward to seeing some more lovely pics!

Tryingreallyhard84 · 02/02/2015 11:03

sun my smile was more a grimace which has quickly become a frown.

Phryn · 02/02/2015 11:05

How are people dealing with work changeover where clients/people are involved?

My colleagues at work have known for a while that I'm pregnant but not my NHS clients (I'm a psychologist). As the NHS takes ages to sort cover I'm putting off telling clients unless I really need to or they guess - and hoping when that happens I'll know more about when my cover will be joining the team (which might not be till I'll been off for a few months knowing the NHS Angry).

Told a mum this morning (I'm working with her teenage daughter) that I'm pregnant. Her reaction was to say "oh no" and then to apologise for saying it as she was pleased for me but sad for her daughter. Now I'm feeling gloomy about months of feeling that I'm letting people down when this is a happy and much longed for event for me and my husband. Stupid hormones - I'm now feeling very teary thinking about it!

sparkle17 · 02/02/2015 13:27

I work with lots of clients phryn. Some hate me (due to my profession) and might be glad of a change of worker. But alot of the mums and children i work with dont like getting to know knew professional and will find it hard. Not told anyone yet but will start soon. It will be difficult though. That being said i cant wait to finish work and will be nice to get some fresh cases when i return.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 02/02/2015 14:22

Phryn, I would just take that as a rather backhanded compliment that she likes you and wants you to continue working with her daughter.

My role isn't the same really, but last time I remember being "congratulated" by mums who really just wanted to know who would be covering my class and how disrupted their learning would be. This time, I've been pleasantly surprised by how human my "new" mums are!

I even had a cousin and an aunt have a go at "all these young primary school teachers who go off on maternity leave and leave the children in the lurch" Shock I think they forgot that was me they were talking about. I think some people still believe women shouldn't work and have children in case it disrupts their lives.

Ooh, so that turned into a good old rant, didn't it?!!

Jackiebrambles · 02/02/2015 14:33

If anyone is going to have time off to have a baby surely it's a primary teacher, it's not like you do that work if you hate kids!!! :-)

As I only came back from mat leave in March last year I think my work are quite cool and calm about covering me for another year come the end of May. The type of work I do lends itself quite well to contract work so hopefully getting cover should be straighforward.

Will any of you be involved in recruiting your cover? I will be and was last time too. She did well and they kept her on!

Good luck with the scans today. Next week its finally my turn!!

sleepyshrew · 02/02/2015 16:51

It's a cold snowy Monday here, but I managed to get the bus into town and back without getting too grumpy. Walking around makes me need a wee though, so I have memorised where all the toilets are around town!

Jazzy, we don't know whether its a boy or girl as baby was in an odd position during scan, and the sonographer didn't say anything. So, we're team yellow! I keep saying 'he' though... but I'm convincing myself it's just because it's shorter than saying 'she'! Can I join the facebook group?

I'm living in my H&M leggings at the moment. I've short legs but they don't look too big and come up over my tummy - so comfy. I realised the other day that all my summer clothes/dresses aren't going to fit Sad

Thanks for the tips about the parenting clubs - I'll sign up for them so we can stock up on things when we're visiting the UK, along with all the foods I'm missing. remembers those packets of jelly I've got stashed away

I wish someone would invent a google blocker, so when you typed in something like episiotomy, just pictures of kittens appeared Confused. I'm only just starting to think about how the baby is going to make an exit...

It's Tuesday tomorrow, so nearly half way through the week again... Hope everyone's scans go well this week Smile.

Deutschybaby · 02/02/2015 17:16

Thanks for the tights tips - I'll try h and m online.

Looks like therr've been some good scans on fb today!

detective I'd do whatever feels right for you. As others have said, what you've had to go through will have taken its toll so make sure that you take IT into account.

I had an opening evening for our 6th form last week. I'd been dreading it, but only a few parents asked about it. One mum said 'I'm pleased for you but so upset that you won't be here for 6th form.' I'm taking it as a compliment, and I think you should do the same, phryn ! Id imagine that a parent of a (potentially - don't want to speak out of place) vulnerable child would probably think that, if you're doing a good job, it's just a shame she didn't think before saying it!

Dont know about you but the students in my school get an awful lot of my time and dedication. Sometimes to the point where my DD has a grumpy/exhausted mum to contend with in the evenings. I'm looking forward to having proper time for my daughter and family, and the school will still be there and waiting with books/reports to do when I get back!

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 02/02/2015 18:05

Re: tights, I got mine from New Look, they aren't maternity range but they are very supportive, extremely warm in theis weather as they are fleecy lined so really snug.

Is anyone really struggling with sleep, I am finding every night I wake up every 2/3 hours when normally I used to sleep straight through before I was pregnant.

jazzyjenbo · 02/02/2015 18:16

Sleepy and anyone for that matter who would like to join the fb group PM me your real name and profile pic description and i'll add you on.

We're getting very chatty over on FB aswell and its nice to start putting faces to names and becoming more 'personal' (in my opinion) Grin

Detective so nice to see you on here, i know we have seen your bump pics on fb but its nice to see your name here aswell.

Bazza2 · 02/02/2015 18:29

Those talking about Boots parenting club, is that the one where you get a free changing bag? Or did I totally make that up?

I just spent a couple of days with my mum, and she gave me lots of hand knitted cardigans. We also went on a little shopping trip to Tesco (fun Saturday night) and we accidentally bought a jar of Marshmallow Fluff and a jar of Custard Cream spread and now they are all I want. The chilli we are having tonight will be a very poor substitute.

JennyOfOldstones · 02/02/2015 19:27

Custard cream spread? That sounds amazing! I want some!

Baby brain has totally kicked in here, managed to go out without my keys today and DP had to come back from work and rescue me!

bubalou · 02/02/2015 19:37

Confused Baby brain keeps getting me too. It isn't a myth for sure!

When I was pregnant last time - I popped into town one day.

I came back to my car after almost 3 hours and couldn't find my keys! WTF I thought and began to panic.

I had left my car running, unlocked, keys in the ignition and without a pay and display ticket. BlushBlushBlush

What the hell was going through my mind. I must have parked, got out the car and just walked off.

Definitely the worst thing I have done. Can't believe I didn't get a ticket or my car didn't get stolen!

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 02/02/2015 19:42

Deutschy, my pupils definitely get the best out of me, and it worries me because I've come to resent my job a lot bit because of it. When I have my days off dd gets (mostly!) nice normal mummy, although any housework etc is abandoned because I use her nap time to plan lessons frantically in, and on work days she gets knackered, grumpy and quite often tearful mummy with no patience and a head full of stuff that isn't her Hmm

sleepyshrew · 02/02/2015 19:44

Custard cream spread?! Oh my. I just looked it up and apparently there's a Bourbon spread too?! I love the Lotus speculoos spread, on hot crumpets. Mmmm.

Elizabeth, yes, I'm having crap sleep at the moment. Keep waking up every couple of hours, then I need a wee, then can't get comfy. And when I do sleep I tend to have weird dreams, sometimes really scary/apocalyptic or sexual. And the last couple of nights I've noticed baby moving more, so I've been lying awake feeling him/her wiggling around!

Tranquilitybaby · 02/02/2015 19:47

Yes Jazzy, quite enjoying posting on our FB group too. It's nice to find questions asked easier on there too.

Yes that's the one bazza, although I've been waiting for weeks for anything from Boots!

Deutschybaby · 02/02/2015 20:10

pas glad it's not just me! part of me would love to go part time but I can imagine just working more on my days off. I don't think I can do it forever, though! Holidays are lovely but I feel as though I'm surviving through the term to get feel like 'me' in the holidays, and live normally.

Sorry if that sounds a bit melodramatic Blush I suppose all working mums feel the same, not just teachers.

Pregnancy absent mindedness - car in the ignition has got to be a winner, bubalou !

I did however lose my glasses last week - expensive Dior ones. IVe only got one pair, and my vision isn't terrible but it's a struggle!

Tryingreallyhard84 · 02/02/2015 20:50

Ha. Quality baby brain moment there bubalou.

I'm unsure if people will care when I go. Although I'm a damn good buffer between audit expectations and the reality that the rest of the business live/work in, so they'll probably notice me more when I'm gone. I'm lucky I only work with internal stakeholders for the most part. Although, the external ones can be less demanding.

I will test the maternity tights tomorrow. Wore maternity leggings and they were bliss! Although, there's rumours of more snow so an outfit rethink May be on the cards.

bubalou that is brilliant! The people where you live must be very honest!

Tryingreallyhard84 · 02/02/2015 21:25

Tori - that is quality. It's for reasons like that I don't know if I could go, you'd just hear me sniggering at the back. Grin

Thank you all.

I'm very 'clumsy' anyway but never do that type of thing.

My husband still won't let me live it down. In terms of epic fails that was an all rounder.

Left keys in car, car running, unlocked and no ticket.

That's a great effort managing all 4. Blush

No not honest people, it's rough here in essex. Maybe just lucky that day. Wink
