Hi

Well up for free stuff too, so keep those suggestions coming from those in the know. Got my Emma's Dairy Mum-to -Be and Bump to Baby packs the other day from Boots, but v keen to avoid Bounty as they're so horrible, aren't they?

Had 16 week midwife appointment today - it was fab! Also had heartbeat check, which was brilliant, apart from the fact that the little squirmer inside me kept moving away from the doppler when I was trying to record it! No wonder I'm getting lots of tickles!

Apparently, the change in policy thing that we were all talking about a few days ago is related to a change in wording of what they're supposed to say rather than not being supposed to do HB at the 16 week apt, so maybe some midwives are confused too...

naty1 · 27/01/2015 18:21

I had mine today too, she said 'if you want we can listen to hb, but its possible we may not hear it as its early.'
Confused as their calender said 17+1.
Im 16+1 ivf and 16+5 by scan.
She agreed to gtt at 28w and did a blood test to find out babies blood type to see if i need anti -d, whether baby is rh-ve (unlikely) as dh and dd are +ve. But i thought at least if i have a bump i'll know whether to push for the anti-d

Luckystar82 · 27/01/2015 18:38

Thanks for the positive reminders about parenting. Lovely to hear! I can't wait to meet my little baby!!

Checked with MW re DH elbowing my bump by accident. She said it sounds fine and confirmed I'm not Rhesus negative. She also promised to sort my messed up records! Afterward I thought she has prob put a mark next to my name for potential DV victim. Oops

Had awesome day at work , very productive and not tired. Traveling home now and will have nice dinner waiting for me cooked by lovely DH :)

Been wearing my Jojo coat.
It's lovely and warm although not too impressed with quality of material. Glad I didn't pay full price
off!!)

Wondering whether to book NCT classes- are they worth it? Timing of my local ones are pain in the bum for me.

jmojo · 27/01/2015 18:42

naty1 I think she must be testing your blood group, not the baby (you can't test the baby's blood group antenatally). You only need anti d if you are rh -ve it makes no difference if you are rh+ as you wont form antibodies.

Good idea to know your blood group tho!

SophieBarringtonWard · 27/01/2015 18:50

I thought NCT was great. We were on a reduced income so only paid £30! There were 5 couples, although we have all moved away now, we still see 3 of them - go on holiday together etc. Our DC will be 7 this summer.

Anyone else really thirsty? I have to drink every hour.

Luckystar82 · 27/01/2015 18:56

I don't like bounty. They sell your personal details to private companies and give you crap samples in return. Shame the NHS allows them to do that

I feel the same about formula milk companies running breast feeding helplines and advertising them in my GP surgery.

Don't even get me started on the desk the Tories have done to sell every NHS patients personal health info to private companies! I find it shocking that the media don't report on this and it's already happening with only opt out consent (and we're not even informed about it!)

Luckystar82 · 27/01/2015 18:57

*deal the Tories have done with private sector

naty1 · 27/01/2015 19:19

Jmojo its not, they already know im rh-ve. Looking at the leaflet its a trial in the area since 2013
Free fetal dna to check baby's blood group.

Sounds very like the downs dna test.
Though not too sure on the stats 1:800 that if they say rh -ve it could be +ve anyway at birth.

And 1:50 that rh+ve on test could be -ve. So you would unnecessarily have anti-D.
I think i'll have the inj either way maybe.

It does seem odd to offer this rather than tge downs screening as surely the technique is similar and one would think a more accurate test for that like harmony would be more value. The mw seemed to be saying the anti-d was expensive.

Also i think last time i had to order the injection in as the mw were based in another building.

Just a word of caution on Emma's diary freebies too, I have heard bad things about them passing on contact details and people being harassed by phone calls when their babies are newborn from companies trying to sell them stuff with details passed on by ED, this was a few years ago though, I haven't signed up myself though and don't know if it's common / still happens. The freebies do sound good!
I picked up a bounty pack at my scan but it was rubbish, the only useful thing was a travel pack of dettol wipes, everything else was advertising and expired vouchers and has gone straight in the bin. Not even the tiny nappy and sudocrem pot I got in my last pregnancy. Haven't given them my details and won't be. Last time they tried to tell me that I could only get a child benefit claim form by signing up my details and getting a new mum pack Hmm complete nonsense of course but it's difficult to think straight when you've just given birth!

BadIdeaBear · 27/01/2015 19:45

Oh, it's vile, isn't it? Preying on people when they're so vulnerable.

jmojo · 27/01/2015 19:46

naty yeah that is funny. V. Intersting tho, going yo ask some of my froends still practising in the uk about it! Thx for the info.

Thepurplegiraffe · 27/01/2015 19:53

Bounty are a real pain, they came round a couple of times trying to sign me up last time when I was in hospital after the c-section. I flatly refused.

Had an embarrassing episode on the train tonight, I ended up in tears after not getting a seat on the way home until the final stop. I have been feeling really crap this week and by the end of the journey I felt pretty awful. Felt like a right idiot.

broodylicious · 27/01/2015 19:53

Yeah that is interesting, naty and jmo. I didn't think they could test blood group of baby til after the birth either. Would that not pose some sort of risk in itself? I'm having quads blood test next week and I'm pretty sure really hope they'll be taking blood from my arm?!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 19:57

Yes the quad test is just a normal blood test from the arm, I had it last week Smile

Naturegirl82 · 27/01/2015 20:30

I was plagued by calls which I think came from Emma ' s diary after dd1's birth. It was very annoying. I didn't get hassled by the bounty lady though as when she came round dd1 was still in nicu so she made a sharp exit!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 20:34

We were discharged 3 hours after having DD so never made it to the ward, which meant the Bounty lady never got us Smile

Bustherb · 27/01/2015 20:59

Had my results back from NT - low risk with 1 in 11490!! Yipeeeeeee

Hope everyone is ok, not had chance to look through the thread.

I think I've got a swollen lymph node in the skin between my bits and the inside of my leg, anyone had this?? Xx

supersupersupershock · 27/01/2015 21:13

I have signed up to Emma's diary, hope they don't give out my phone details grrrrr [goes off to purchase loud whistle to hurt the eardrums of any cold callers................] Grin

TouchPauseEngage · 27/01/2015 22:02

Evening everyone, thanks for tips on freebies. I give out a junk email address and fake phone number so they can't hassle me! I also give my DH's surname so if they do send junk mail I can just bin it without opening it Grin
In other news I saw the womens physio and have officially been diagnosed with PGP. I have some exercises and a very attractive support belt. I'm just hoping it doesn't get any worse as it's manageable at the mo and I've caught it early. Pregnancy yoga was painful tonight as I went straight there from Physio so I was really sore. Kicking DH into the spare room so I can build a pillow fortress around me and hopefully get some sleep!

supersupersupershock · 28/01/2015 03:35

I've just gone back into my Emma's diary account and changed my phone number Grin - Good idea Touch re using different surname and ignoring

TouchPauseEngage · 28/01/2015 05:52

If you want to be very geeky about it super you can give a slightly different spelling on each form, make a note of it, and see who sends you the most crap...not that I've ever done that, nooooooooo Grin

It's my one day off today and I'm wide awake at 5.30. A mixture of hunger and needing the loo. Sigh.

Stinkylinky · 28/01/2015 08:45

Hello everyone!

This is my first DC due on 7/7/15 and I have a lovely little bump, so excited to meet baby Smile

Just a quick question, should my midwife have taken my bloods at my 16 week appointment? She always seems flustered and over worked so I'm worried she's missing things!

Also had my flu jab yesterday... OUCH! My arm bloody hurts! Sleeping was a pain last night!

Looking forward to sharing my journey with you lovely ladies x

Number3cometome · 28/01/2015 08:54

Bustherb

Got one in my arm pit, it's been there since literally when I found out I was pregnant and it hurts Sad

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 28/01/2015 08:55

Welcome stinky, due date buddy!

No bloods at 16 week appointment. From memory they do it at your booking appointment and at 28 weeks. Unless you're having the quad test for Down's syndrome in which case they usually do it at 16 weeks.

Stinkylinky · 28/01/2015 08:59

Thanks inittowinit, Good to have a due date buddy, is this your first DC too?
