WantToGoingTo · 27/01/2015 09:38

I've had was it planned! Been with DH for 5 years, we have been married for 18 months and bought our first house 9 months ago. O course it was bloody planned?!

gluenotsoup · 27/01/2015 10:26

Morning all !

Got to, zampa and sparkly, thanks for the reassurance about tiredness, it seems we are all a similar date, so expect it is definitely related to the amount of growth at the moment. I am utterly exhausted, and just can't get enough sleep! I don't remember this from before, so maybe it's also worse because I am running about after the other two, and dd 2 needs a lot of lifting and carrying, and her wheelchair weighs a ton, so that probably doesn't help. Plus, she is tube fed through the night so an unbroken nights sleep is a luxury. I remember with my last 2, I reached a point where I felt so full of health and vitality that I felt amazing, I really hope I get that feeling again ! Think it was a bit later on though.

Broody, I love the older names too. Both dd s have got quit traditional names, and although we haven't yet given it much thought, I love names like Nell, Florence, Alexandra, and so on. My mum however, just casts her mind back to when she was having me in the 70 s and thinks of what was popular then ! Those names I am not so keen on, whereas she thinks the name I like are just old lady Names. Smile

Fleur , don't let the comments bother you, you would be more worried if you weren't getting bigger! I get a big bump too, from quite early on, but I wonder if it's because I am only small? 5 foot 3, and quite a slight frame, so my thinking is there is no where else for it to go but out! My bump still looks quite small in the mornings, but by the evening it's unmistakable and quite hard.

Muddy, ours is a 2008 cameleon. It's not really cumbersome, but the front wheels are quite widely spaced, but it does have lots of growing room, and I loved it. I know what you mean about changing the colours, we need a new basket in sand, but apparently it's now discontinued, so I think I will email bugaboo to see if I can get it or if not to check that the new fabrics etc are compatible with a 2008 chassis before I buy any. It might be worth you doing the same?

Lucky, it does sound like your friend had a bit of pnd. Babies definitely do have their own personalities from the start, and although I would agree it's a big cycle of feeds, sleep and nappies for a bit, they are utterly mesmerising, and gradually you see their little expressions, and the way they begin to communicate their needs and their likes and dislikes is their personality coming through. It's lovely! I missed out on most of that with dd 2 as she so poorly, and I can't wait to experience it again Smile

We get some comments too:
"At our age ? You must be mad!" I am 39 and dh is 40 ...Hmm
"How are you going to cope with 3?" I think I'll manage...
"It's a big age gap isn't it" dd 1 is 6, and dd 2 is 4, so not really?

Oh well. Off to sign up to Emmas diary now. Missed out on the bounty pack, and still not got a maternity exemption certificate, so going to make the most of this one ..

StoneBaby · 27/01/2015 11:00

I signed up with Emma Diary too but I need to check if my local Boots does the pack. Hmm

Fleurchamp · 27/01/2015 11:38

What is Emma's Diary? My bounty pack was really old- from 2009!

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 12:03

Emma's diary is one you sign up to - you print the form and take to any Boots or Argos.

For anyone who works in the City of London I have found Boots in Liverpool Street Station really good, they have had Emma's Diary and Bounty packs.

Any other packs anyone know of? I got a free Cow teddy from Cow & Gate, also signed up to Aptimil for a free Polar bear toy.

I want free stuff!!

Fleurchamp · 27/01/2015 12:22

Great number I shall send DH there Grin
I am all for the free stuff!

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 12:31

Apparently Tesco do a free Tesco Pharmacy Goody Bag, you have to ask instore in large branches with a pharmacy?

I have to pick up school uniform tomorrow, so will ask then Wink

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 12:32

PS Emma's diary also has £200 worth of Argos money off vouchers you can print which look pretty good.

Gosh I am a cheapskate haha

ohlordyplordy · 27/01/2015 12:52

With regard to comments, I've had one 'was it planned' and one, 'oh I assumed you weren't bothered about kids' - I'm only 34 ffs.

But the prize goes to OH's DF, who said 'are you going to make it legal then?' (aka get married) 'the baby will need to have a name' - suggesting that the only correct name would be his family name. If we ever did marry, I have no intention of taking OH's surname, which i'm sure would make his parents' heads spin.

We've been together over 12 years, living together over 11, have joint bank account, mortgage etc. We've basically been living as a married couple for over 11 years. If people choose to marry as it's the right thing for them, good on them, but personally I feel we are committed to each other and don't need a piece of paper and a party to prove it to the world.

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 13:08

ohlordyplordy

My children have my ex partner's surname. That was a mistake!

This baby will be having a double barrelled name with mine and OH's name.
If we do get married, we will have the same double barrelled name.

We certainly won't be getting married for the sake of the baby.

If we did get married we'd run off and do it secretly Wink

ohlordyplordy · 27/01/2015 13:16

If we ever get married that would be my ideal too. I'm not against actually being married (I can't see that anything would really change other than legal rights) but getting married fills me with dread. I get very anxious, so a wedding and being centre of attention is my idea of hell.

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 13:30

Lordy - absolutely the same as me and OH, we hate anything like that.
I hate opening presents in front of people, the thought of babyshowers scares me!!

We would do it on the quiet for sure.

Naturegirl82 · 27/01/2015 13:30

My friend and her fiancée haven't told any of their family they are engaged. They are eloping to Scotland to get married on a beach. It's actually the second couple I know that have done that. Perfect if a big wedding doesn't appeal Grin

Naturegirl82 · 27/01/2015 13:31

ok not sure what happened there but that should say fiance!

broodylicious · 27/01/2015 13:38

glue, my friend has just had a little girl and they've called her Florence Evelyn. Such a pretty name.

We've got no inspiration for boys at all. We just can't seem to find any we both love - unlike our girls names, of which there's enough we love, even if we had quadsWink Think we will need to get the name books down from the loft for boys.

Toastandmarmiteallday · 27/01/2015 13:50

Catching up with everyone's news - this thread moves so quickly!

Had 16w appointment today with mw and heard LO's heart beating which was the most amazing experience, possibly even better than scan. Feels quite real now and I am sure the odd feelings I have been having are LO moving around and kicking after talking to the mw.

16w todaySmile

JoY007 · 27/01/2015 16:08

Hello Ladies - sounds like everyone is doing great Grin

Meanwhile, I know some of you ladies are doing NCT, just made enquiries, I was unaware the costs were quite steep 358, or is it just my area?

We are now exploring the NHS alternative, think NCT is a bit expensive considering all other things that we need to spend money on. Which is a shame as I really wanted to do it.

Someone on the thread mentioned Surestart, looks like its still offered in my area. Can I do that or is it exclusively for low income and/or teenage mothers?

Is anyone else not doing NCT, if yes what is your alternative, particularly if you are a first timer?

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 16:11

JoY there should be some NHS antenatal classes in your area, have a word with your midwife at your next appointment. We weren't offered them as id already said we were booked on to NCT (and yes it is bloody expensive but we were new to the area and I had no friends!) so she just said 'ah ok well you won't need to classes then' but they are generally available I think. Also I believe (but may be wrong) that anyone can access the SureStart services. There isn't one in my area but there is one where my dad lives and is great.

JoY007 · 27/01/2015 16:35

Thanks Got will do. Shame though as I was really looking forward to it Sad

Fleurchamp · 27/01/2015 16:35

joy mine were that price, I still decided to join though as I have heard such good things and the NHS services in my area are zero unless you receive benefits!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 16:40

They are fab and I would recommend them to everyone if possible, but the cost is off putting! Some of my NCT friends did the NHS classes as well and found them really useful, and made friends there too.

I wanted to do the refresher course with this baby but can't really justify it as I only had DD 14 months ago Confused.

JoY007 · 27/01/2015 17:02

We might change our minds if we discover that the NHS ones are not as good. DPs sister and husband attended NCT, but both did not like it, her husband said the men never bothered to attend for the meet up. His sister said she found group cliquey with a lot of school playground mentality. Funny she is the only person I know that did not enjoy it.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 17:10

That's a shame. I've seen other people on MN say that they didn't get much out of it but everyone I know IRL has found it really valuable.

FWIW my DH still meets with the rest of the partners over a year on, luckily they were all rugby fans and bonded over that. I didn't find it at all cliquey or competitive which is another fairly common complaint. We are all very different and probably wouldn't have been friends in any other walk of life but I think that's a really positive thing, as it definitely broadens your horizons.

StoneBaby · 27/01/2015 17:29

Re baby clubs - Johnson and Johnson do a reward club. If you buy their wet wipes, you enter a code and cumulate points which will become a reward. This one I know I can access over here!
