Lovely to starts hearing about the sex of babies. I'm looking forward to finding out in 4 weeks! I have a feeling it's a girl but could be wrong.

My husband accidentally fell on top of me yesterday and elbowed me in the low bump area. Hurt like hell now I have ache in belly and back. I hope it's nothing to worry about?

Feeling very tired today. Lots on with house purchase, stuff at work. Need to take it easy in the evenings.

Got some great maternity wear in JoJo Maman Bebe. Black padded coat £70 reduced to £15 and a fab nursing/ maternity dress £40 down to £7 (have had my eye on it so was very pleased) and also got some other bits too. Nicest maternity stuff I've seen in the shops (most stuff shops seem to have maternity online only).

Still vomiting and wrenching but luckily not feeling nausea any more.

16 weeks today - 16 w midwife appointment on Friday. Hope I get to hear the HB

Sophie re the bugaboo, their first baby was born in 2009 so I guess it's a 2009 model. Would that have a "style" eg chameleon? I wasn't thinking so much about safety, other than the car seat, actually I'm not sure why I was asking! Just to ensure that I wouldn't rather spend £700 on a new one Grin. Actually I am keen to find out the style so I can check if I can change the colour. I'm shallow like that.

glue thanks also for the Bugaboo info, so what type is yours? I really am clueless! Yes I seem to remember that it was a bit cumbersome. But I can live with that, for free.

Sorry to hear you have to deal with negative people at work Fleurchamp

Just rise above it and kill em with kindness. Change the subject if attention turns to you / babies etc. I know how you feel - I hate being the centre of attention too. I have had really kind comments from people so far. But am worried about receiving unsolicited advice. Remember if people are mean, it's a reflection on them and feel sorry for them that they're so negative!

In fact, that reminds me...I had a really negative convo about becoming a parent last week. A friend told me that the first year will be hell and babies don't have personalities until they are toddlers... They just have needs. So don't expect to enjoy your maternity leave!! It took me aback because their child has always been so lovely and pretty easy going. Obviously they had all the usual sleep issues but she slept right through 12 hours from month 6. I always thought I'd be lucky to have a daughter like theirs. I just brushed it off as a problem they had dealing with the baby years. Being resilient is all about how you deal with situations and usually it's all to do with your attitude, your behaviour and coping mechanisms. Ie. A positive attitude can get you far! If I struggle for a few months and hated being a parent as much as she does, then I would be really worried about suffering with PND and seek help (which I've been told I'm a risk of, due to family) ... Am I being unrealistic in thinking this??? I suspect the friend did in fact have PND and find it sad that she didn't ask me for help at the time (I would have been there for her).

Settling down to watch Catastrophe about pregnant woman on C4. Was funny last week!

Naturegirl82 · 26/01/2015 22:15

lucky can't comment on your friend but I really enjoyed my maternity leave. And I'd disagree that they don't develop personalities till they are toddlers.

lucky do you know your rhesus status? As if you are negative you may need to see about getting an anti-d jab (hence why I had to have one today). Mw said needs to be done within 72 hours of hitting the bump. If not then keep an eye on the pain and call your mw if it gets worse (you need to take painkillers) or you get any spotting. This was the advice I was given by mw today.

Feeling quite stressed about work. I really can't see how I'm going to get everything done this week especially as I'm working from home so it's more difficult for me to access certain programmes. Probably not helping I'm still worrying about the bump. Aching has got a bit worse but hoping its just stretching.

jmojo · 26/01/2015 22:39

lucky I absolutely disagree with your friend. I must have looked after thousands of babies in my time and they are born with personalities. Everyone is different. It is wonderful to see the personality unfold as the days go by.

nature I hope you are feeling better tomorrow!

Number3cometome · 26/01/2015 22:40

Babies defo have personalities straight from birth!

Luckystar82 · 26/01/2015 22:41

Thanks nature girl for the advice (hope you feel better soon), I don't know what rheasus status is tho. Probably because my maternity care had been poor so far due to a new electronic system in our area. I've been wiped off the system. NHS has no records, no notes for me and I have had to book my scan and 16 w appt directly. I don't have a book and no papers. I suspect the MW wouldn't know if I'm rheasus negative as my bloods records have been lost too. I'm going to try to sort it with MW on Friday because GP surgery and hospital have both said nothing they can do.

It's lovely to hear your positive feedback on motherhood nature girl I'm sorry you're stressed about work. Is there someone you can talk to about a possible solution - like IT or your manager to see if someone can help do part of the work which is easier to complete in the office. I share your pain - we have a programme that doesn't work so well when I work from home too. Good luck x

Luckystar82 · 26/01/2015 22:46

Thanks jmojo and number3 for the positivity about motherhood. I haven't spent much time with babies or children, so maybe I am a little naiive.... But I'm really looking forward to meeting my baby and giving her/him all the love which is bursting from my heart! I also think my cat who gets smothered in kisses and cuddles (which isn't always so welcome!) will be quite pleased that my attention is diverted from away from him when the baby comes!

WantToGoingTo · 27/01/2015 06:25

mrsf we are doing our loft at the moment. We have related current insulation and will buy 200mm top up and then board. We found knauf insulation from wickes was best price and 18mm plywood sheets also from wickes. We will do it ourselves and buy timber to raise level of boards to accommodate extra insulation. We have a 3 bed semi and total cost excluding delivery/van hire is £450. We aren't doing hatch and ladder yet though!

lucky I also got a jojo coat in the sale! £25 has additional waist band so can wear pregnant or not :)

Naturegirl82 · 27/01/2015 07:20

lucky do you know your blood group at all e.g A positive or A negative for example?

broodylicious · 27/01/2015 07:26

lucky, I'd definitely try to find out your blood group today - if you're rhesus negative, you will probably need the anti d injection to protect you and baby and you need to have that ASAP.

LaLa5 · 27/01/2015 07:28

Mornings ladies! I struggle with this thread as it moves so fast!

Got my 16 week appointment today with mw. Stressing about having nothing to pee in, think I'll have to wait and get pot at surgery.

Fleur people are silly just ignore them! I'm getting 'you're huge' a lot particularly as a girl at work is a week behind and has no bump. Smile sweetly and walk away.

I got a mamas and papas cot bed worth £275 from someone on a Facebook sale group for £40 the other day. It's lovely! Has one tooth mark but that's it. Bargain :)

I am struggling to find anywhere to try the uppa vista baby travel system as no one near me sells it. Might go to baby show so I can look at various prams.

Anyone have a clue about slings? I want a stretchy wrap from birth and a carrier for later. Any recommendations?

LaLa5 · 27/01/2015 07:29

Oh and I did my first Laisy Daisy class (daisy foundation) last night. It was good

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 07:32

Lucky maternity leave is tough but also amazing, and they have their own personalities from birth. It's amazing watching them grow and develop and become little people. DD started smiling at 4 weeks old and hasn't stopped since!

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 07:40

Lala £40? Wow that is a bargain!

Lucky I hadn't even changed a nappy or fed a baby until I had DS, don't worry at all, the midwives are very good and will help you at first :)

My belly looks bigger today, it's amazing how different some clothes make it look!

LaLa5 · 27/01/2015 07:45

I can't wait for maternity leave! I totally think they have wee personalities and can't wait to meet my little monkey.

Number yup it's this one

smallgreenbanana · 27/01/2015 07:57

luckystar that's terrible how the NHS has misplaced you! I hope you are able to get it sorted - it is hardly what a pg lady needs is it, extra hassles.

My area also has a new electronic system. Watched the nurse at the hospital try and use it the other day. It is incredibly slow - she probably waited a 30-60 seconds for various bits of the system to start their various programs that had to be logged in to/clicked on. I thought to myself, one patient = 60 seconds wasted time. Just think of all the thousands of patients per day, each time they need to have their records viewed or updated, that's probably days worth of staff time wasted every day!

The bump has popped out and is making its presence felt. Lots of poky bubbles last night. I think it must have stuck out every knee and elbow and formed a pointy star shape for a while there! I'm still managing to cover it up at work with a big scarf, but no clue whether I'm fooling anyone!

Waiting for quad results, taken on Friday... a bit nerve wracking, isn't it, in case you get that call...

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 08:00

The only negative comments I've had so far are around the small age gap. The usual 'you're going to have your hands full' and 'you're mad' and 'DD won't know what has hit her' and this particular gem from FIL... 'You silly people. You should watch TV in bed, not do 'that'.' The gap will be 20 months so not even that small!

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 08:28

I've had comments like "Was it planned", "aren't your other children older, you want to do it all again, you are mad" erm my kids are 12 + 7.
"Your older one can babysit"
Not sure my 12 year old will be impressed with that idea, unless it means baby sleeps next to him whilst he plays his Xbox Hmm
One joker said "Who's the father"
My reply "never you"

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 08:34

We've had 'was it planned' a lot too. It wasn't actually but we're not going to tell them that Smile.

Who's the father?? Shock. That's awful.

supersupersupershock · 27/01/2015 08:36

If I get a 'was it planned' I might punch them on the nose! My mum said the other day 'are you sure its not twins'. I said you do realise thats on the list of things to never say to pregnant women Hmm

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 09:11

GotToBeInItToWinIt

It was my boss who said that, he was joking about.
He knows I split up with my ex in 2013 and am with my new partner now (well I say new, I met him in January 2014!) He thinks he is funny Hmm

We do have a good relationship, so I let that one slide!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 09:24

Glad it was a 'joke' Smile

Number3cometome · 27/01/2015 09:27

It's ok, I have joked with him about the potential for a baby to pop out of his beer gut!
