Gottobe I know so many people who had no idea they were pregnant until the 2nd trimester (and so drank) and their kids are great.

Jenbird5891 · 12/02/2015 08:47

Hi all just checking in! 19 weeks today for me :) been keeping up with thread and so sorry for lucky with the fraudsters. Glad your bank are bring quick to sort it I would have a melt down if it happened now!!!
fleur- I am in same boat at work. It's a tiny office and I sit next to a woman who's never had kids and she's normally nice but really upset me last week. She's constantly commenting on my eating and even asked if our food shopping bill has gone up?! Wtf?! I'm not even eating a lot at work and have only put on about 6 pounds so far considering it's a twin pregnancy I think I should be expected to be a bit hungry!!! Then they all started asking when I was off on maternity leave to which I said 'start of May' which will be 30 weeks and is in line with advice for twins. To this I got the comment 'why are u even bothering to come in this year'?! Aaargh. I think they thought it was office banter but I was so fuming it must have shown on my face as the woman asked 'are u feeling a bit emotional today'? No I just want to do my job in peace without hurtful comments being made every five minutes!! It might be a joke for them but being pregnant for the first time is quite scary especially when you have added worry about two of them in there! Why do people not think?! Anyway when it was just me and her in the room I got a bit tearful and said that I didn't want them going on about it all the time at work. Think she got the message ad then bought some flowers out of guilt haha. People!!
On the booze front I've found some half decent alcohol free beer if anyone's missing the taste by eating to avoid alcohol. I tried Bavaria malt from sainsburys and it's brewed without yeast meaning alcohol free without the chemicals. Kept me going through England vs wales!
I am also worried about 20 week scan. This time next week! I think my worry is that they will find abnormalities and that it's more likely cos there's two. Have no idea why I think that no scientific basis at all it's just the worrier in me! DH is away at work that week so will be alone too. Thought about taking mum or someone else but if he's not there I think i prefer to be alone. Maybe that's a bad idea what do u think?! Xx

Fattycow · 12/02/2015 11:08

I'm ashamed to say that I've already gained a stone...

Fatty don't worry too much about it. As long as you are eating healthily and still getting some exercise that is the main thing. The weight doesn't go on evenly. I know there are suggested weight gains per week, but my experience was it doesn't work like that, you tend to put on a lot of weight, then it slows down again.

I put on a lot of weight in the early weeks but the weight gain seems to slow down for me a lot in the 3rd trimester. I found a pic of me last night at 7 months pg with DD1 and my bump is all ready bigger now than it was then!

Fattycow · 12/02/2015 13:23

My diet isn't the healthiest and I hardly get any exercise. I suppose I should change that now, to keep myself fit and from gaining too much!

I'm 19 weeks today and have just hit 14 lbs of weight gain. Eating fairly healthily but my exercise is limited so going to sort that out ASAP.

LaLaLaaaa · 12/02/2015 15:24

I've put on 10lb so far - most in first trimester when all I could eat was crisps and cake! Hoping its evening out now that I'm eating healthily and doing exercise

18+2

Afternoon ladies, I am technically wfh. technically I walked out of the office in a huff.

I was sent this link this morning:

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2949917/Why-baby-bumps-getting-BIGGER-Charlotte-Kemp-says-mothers-like-eating-causing-long-term-health-problems.html

(Sorry, I can't seem to do hyperlinks on my phone)

And then had to endure a discussion about how my bump is already bigger than Kate Middleton's.

Got to love a Daily Mail reader Sad

So I have spent a productive hour googling weight gain. I haven't even gained very much (8lb since my booking in appt at 10 weeks). I am now 17 weeks which seems perfectly ok? Also, I was pretty slim before and so it seems perfectly normal to put on a bit more padding.

Gah. Stupid office witches making me paranoid.

I have been exercising 1 or 2 times per week (swimming) and then walking as much as I can. I also do yoga once a week but it's more sitting around and chatting than actual exercise. I actually feel pretty good!

My sister has recommended that I do some weights for my arms and middle back (I am a weakling) as my nephew is a bit of a lump and she struggled with sore muscles for a while (she now has very toned arms Smile ).

Zampa · 12/02/2015 16:10

Fleur It's a hateful women shaming click bait article that's so typical of the Mail. Can't believe someone had the cheek to send it to you!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 12/02/2015 16:14

Read that this morning Fleur, yet another way for the Daily Mail to make pregnant women feel guilty/bad about themselves.

I'm pretty sure my bump was bigger than Kate Middletons before I was even pregnant Smile.

Seriously though everyone is different. We all gain weight at different rates. If they're not making pregnant women feel guilty for putting on too much weight they're making them feel guilty for not eating enough in pregnancy/exercising too much in pregnancy/being too thin during pregnancy. We can't win.

Your weight gain sounds perfectly fine.

Fleurchamp · 12/02/2015 16:22

The email link came from the wickedest of all the witches. She has 4 children and a size 8 figure.
Good for her.
She makes a point of commenting on people's weight. If someone is off sick she says it's because they don't eat properly. Nasty cow.
Meh. She's off tomorrow and I will happily scoff my hot cross bun for elevensies

Naturegirl82 · 12/02/2015 16:27

Fleur don't waste your time looking at the growth charts for pregnant woman. I nearly drove myself mad last time as I was far above the line and so had put on supposedly too much weight last time, but by the end I was within the normal weight gain range. We all put it on differently, some people are really slim till the end and balloon, others put it on quickly then slow down, others just don't put on much. It will be what it will be.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 12/02/2015 16:31

The sad thing is that the article is written by a woman, who should know better than to try and shame pregnant women.

While I agree that being pregnant isn't a license to eat everything in sight, I also think we should be given credit for having a little sense! I eat when I'm hungry. Usually healthily, sometimes not. I do lots of walking and go swimming. I'm not going to analyse every morsel that enters my mouth.

Fleurchamp · 12/02/2015 16:40

Thanks ladies. I have complained to my boss about the person in question.

I hate the fact I can't just ignore her. Usually I turn a deaf ear but I am so paranoid/ anxious etc being pregnant that I can't handle it.

Naty1 · 12/02/2015 16:53

Fleur- thats more than a little rude of them.
Also article says 1-2stone well DD was 7lb 10 so that doesnt leave a lot for all extra water, placenta etc .
Also babycenter says
25-35lb for normal bmi
15-25lb if overweight

LaLaLaaaa · 12/02/2015 18:55

Fleur your weight gain sounds perfectly normal! Tell her to bog off!

fattymcfatfat · 12/02/2015 20:17

I pit on two stone by booking, the lollypop lady has taken to calling me slim....I dont really care what people say but I am on number three so ised to the comments I suppose. tell tuem to mind their own business. your weight is personal even when you are pregnant. ..im pretty sure they wouldntbhave then ballsbto say anything if you wasnt pregnant and started tonput on weight.

fattymcfatfat · 12/02/2015 20:18

argh....sorry if thats hard to understand, stupid phone! making me make mistakes!

Fattycow · 12/02/2015 22:53

Ceejay14 · 12/02/2015 23:12

Has anyone got any good tips for calming yourself down when you are stressed? I've had a rubbish few days at work and despite trying to stop it, am really stressed now and my bump hurts :-( I know I need to keep calm but finding it really hard. Any advice anyone has would be great!

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/02/2015 23:17

Fleur, I make it my life's mission to avoid anything the Daily Heil ever says. In any case, I'm also slim, have put on around 4kg (I think about the same as you) and I was worried the MW would give me into trouble for not putting on enough! Basically because I'm not showing at all yet, it must just be blood and fluid and a little bit of baby. And maybe some boob Grin. Anyway, the point being, I bet you don't look big at all. Your colleagues sound charming.
