Nice idea jmojo! I've drunk in public and not incurred wrath. Just give them a big lecture on the correlation of drinking 1-2 units per week with positive outcomes for the child! I find that an amusing one to weave into conversation. But I've experienced no negativity as yet.

LaLaLaaaa · 11/02/2015 15:48

Have the wine! The only person who ever commented was my mil at my 50ml champagne over 4 hours on Christmas Day!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 11/02/2015 15:51

jmojo I had the odd glass of wine in my first pregnancy and didn't have any nasty looks or comments. Did get told off at a wedding for having a cup of coffee though Hmm. Enjoy your wine Smile

jmojo · 11/02/2015 16:00

Gotto it is Smallgreen wondering about wine, but today is my birthday and I am going to have a small glass of beer at diner tonight (unsophisticated I know but wine tastes gross to me just now and I miss larger!)

Fleurchamp · 11/02/2015 17:24

I would go for it too! I haven't had a drink since Christmas but would totally have a glass of wine if we went to our local.

My MIL gave a look when I had a teeny bit of champagne at Christmas. When I mentioned to her that if DH and I went to the pub (it's a posh gastro place) I was going to have a small (125ml) glass of wine she said something along the lines that she didn't think it was good to drink in public. Although she would be the type to silently judge rather than say anything.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 11/02/2015 17:27

Ah sorry! I am also feeling beer more than wine this pregnancy. Wine is giving me a monster headache, even a thimble full!

Fleurchamp · 11/02/2015 17:29

Oh yes, a woman in my office has taken to be the caffeine police.

I have one normal coffee per day and one decaf tea!! And I am completely off chocolate so no caffeine there.

Also, whilst having a bit of a moan, I am completely and utterly fed up with the constant bump talk at work. Every day I get an appraisal from the reception staff as to whether I am looking big, bigger etc. I also can't eat anything without it being remarked on.
Is it me or am I not alone in finding the constant discussion about my weight and waistline really annoying? I came very close to saying something today but I don't want to seem churlish.
Part of me thinks they are just happy and excited for me but the other just thinks they're being bitchy.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 11/02/2015 17:34

Fleur my in laws live abroad and in my first pregnancy they would FaceTime every bloody night to look at my bump, and took to calling me 'fatty'. Drove me insane. I started just answering and putting the phone to my stomach as they didn't appear to want to talk to me/see my face. They don't seem to care this time round though Smile

Fleurchamp · 11/02/2015 17:37

Aargh gottobe that would drive me insane.

I am wearing a new maternity dress today which conceals the bumpage pretty well. So they told me my face "has filled out". Thanks.

jmojo · 11/02/2015 17:52

My 8 year old niece hugged me last week, and looked at me very seriously saying "Mmmmm Auntie, I think you are getting fat!". It was SO funny, I said, "Yes Charlotte, I know and I am going to get a whole lot fatter, I am growing a whole tiny human inside me!"

Everyone is a critic! Wink

fattymcfatfat · 11/02/2015 17:54

fleur I would have msde their face fill out by hitting them in it a few times the cheeky so and sos!! but then I am a very violent pregnant woman.....I dont know what comes over me. I just want to hurt people. Sometimes I onky have to look at somebody and I feel like slapping them

fattymcfatfat · 11/02/2015 17:56

I find kids funny though. my ds told me today that if I lie on my back it looks like I have a mountain stuck on me

Naty1 · 11/02/2015 17:56

I do think its odd how you can tell some people are pg from their face shape, usually quite late on.
Eg lily in himym, bones, new girl etc.

i guess nothing escapes the swelling :(

Fattycow · 11/02/2015 18:00

Scan today. Baby is perfect. Smile

The only one allowed to call me Fatty is my DH. And you lot, as that is my nickname on here!

Fattycow · 11/02/2015 18:42

I cannot believe that my baby is about halfway cooked already! Shock

WiIdfire · 11/02/2015 18:45

Yup. Halfway point today exactly. Where did the time go?

Zampa · 11/02/2015 18:53

I've been drinking throughout my entire pregnancy and have escaped censure. However, I don't look pregnant yet, so this may be why. I've had about 10 units over 19 weeks, never more than 1.5 units at a time (basically, a 125 ml glass of champagne).

The new guidance issued yesterday has freaked me out a bit though and I'm not really enjoying the drinks as much as I used to, so I think I'm not going to bother from now on, despite sensible consumption being OK.

I'll wait until I can express and then get battered on lager at the football, like the old days!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 11/02/2015 18:55

What's the new guidance Zampa?

Clstow · 11/02/2015 19:30

Hey, this thread moves so fast! Thinking of you broodi I think you're spot on to go with the maths, it's still an outside chance no matter how the NHS class you.
Congrats on the scan fatty, can't wait for mine - still 3 weeks to go and I've been feeling quite anxious despite usually being pretty laid back, guess that's normal though?
I totally agree about all the bump comments, it's not usually acceptable to give your every opinion about someone's appearance so why does that change when a woman is pregnant? Grr, winds me up. Am worried I am putting on a bit of extra (non baby) weight though... Can anyone recommend any pregnancy workout DVDs?

Zampa · 11/02/2015 19:32

The RCOG have just brought their guidelines in line with NICE. Article here; www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-31355152

It's mainly looking at conception and early pregnancy, I think, which was an acknowledged risk anyway.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 11/02/2015 19:46

Yikes, both pregnancies I haven't had a clue and have drank until my missed period!

Fattycow · 11/02/2015 20:55

I haven't had a drop of alcohol all pregnancy, but the stuff smells just wrong to me since being upduffed.

Fattycow · 11/02/2015 20:56

And, clstow, being anxious is quite normal. The point of the 20 week scan isn't just fun or finding out the sex of the baby, it is to look for things that could be wrong!
