Stinkylinky · 03/02/2015 06:42

I've been up for most of the night with an awful migraine (again) DP has just got up and turned the light on to go to work and I wanted to cry! Looks like a day in bed in the dark for me. I suffer with migraines quite a lot and found cocodamol was the only thing that shifted them but I can't take that whilst pregnant, does anyone have any advice as to how to get rid of them naturally? I'm getting fed up with having to take days off work due to horrific migraines.

I've booked an eye test as I've noticed my eye sight is getting really blurry and it sometimes makes me very dizzy

broodylicious · 03/02/2015 08:15

Morning ladies! So sorry to hear some of you are struggling with various aches and pains. I have slight back ache but nothing crippling yet. I'm still being sick though so I'm not getting away scot free!

Thanks arete, we had a fab day at whipsnade yesterday. Dd loved it. It was freezing cold but so lovely to spend a proper full day with dh and dd - it's quite rare for us to do that because when dh is off work (any two or three days in a week), that's when I work so we don't get much quality family time at the mo.

jmojo · 03/02/2015 09:13

stinky we used to give codydramol during pregnancy. It is lower dose codiene (10mg) with 500mg of paracetamol than co codamol (30 mg codine/500mg paracetamol) which we used to give but stopped giving in the last couple of years. the docs had to add in codine if they felt the patient needed more. I would say things may have changed since then again (i haven't practiced for a few years) but call the labour ward or day assessment unit and quickly ask re taking it, you may find they say it is fine.

Naturegirl82 · 03/02/2015 09:35

I've taken today off sick. Feels like something is stuck in my throat making it hard to swollow which is annoying. It doesn't help that DD1 had trouble sleeping last night either. Can't remember the last time I had a day where there was nothing I was expected to be doing. Hoping the rest will help me get back on form. Going to mean I have shed loads of work to do when I get back in but I'll worry about that tomorrow.

Good luck everyone that has their 16 week appointment today. Hope you get to gear the hb.

Naturegirl82 · 03/02/2015 09:36

*hear that should have said

broodylicious · 03/02/2015 09:59

Oh nature, hope you're soon back on form after a good rest today. Lots of trashy tv and feet up should help you no endSmile

I don't think I'll get to hear the HB at my appt today. Just checked with the office so we can decide whether to leave dd with grandparents for half an hour or if I go alone and the mw said it's not standard practice at this stage. Trust me to get the only bloody mw in the UK who will stick to the NICE guidelines!Confused

Thepurplegiraffe · 03/02/2015 10:08

Broody my mw made a point of telling me they don't recommend it etc but was still willing when I asked nicely and made it clear that I wouldn't expect any action if she couldn't find it. Might be worth a go.

Have gone back into work today after taking yesterday off sick but feel awful and am doing nothing so not sure how long I will last.

Number3cometome · 03/02/2015 10:12

Morning ladies.

Spoke to OH about buying baby stuff last night again, he says we should wait until the 20 week scan (5th March)

Feels like ages away!!

Baby had a little movement this morning, think it was telling me to eat some food before I embarked on the train journey from hell.

SparklyPenguin · 03/02/2015 11:35

Morning ladies, sorry to hear so many of you are unwell at the moment. Fortunately just tiredness here, met mw yesterday for 16wk appointment and she seemed happy with my progress, found a strong little heartbeat too! DH and I are using up some annual leave this week to start organising our flat and rearranging stuff- got to be quite creative as we only have a tiny 1-bedroom place (we're in London after all) then work out what we need to buy!

Number3cometome · 03/02/2015 11:52

SparklyPenguin

I had DC1 in a one bedroom flat. Will you be co-sleeping?

I had a cot bed which was in our room, but he ended up sleeping in with me until about 6 months.

With DC2 we had a 2 bedroom flat, so same again.

With DC3 i've ditched the ex, and have a new partner and now a 3 bedroom house outside of London. Baby will be in with us, then sharing with DD who will be 8 and versed in nappy changing haha

SparklyPenguin · 03/02/2015 12:10

number we're trying to figure it out... We have just about enough room for a cot bed in the bedroom with us, but not sure I want to start with that so looking at Moses baskets too, not made any definite decisions yet! We don't want the upheaval of moving or selling just yet but will look at moving further out so we can afford a 2-bed flat once baby is walking and needs more space...I'm not gonna get too stressed, we'll make it work! Sounds like you did too.

Number3cometome · 03/02/2015 12:12

Yes of course, you will always make it work and defo nothing to get stressed about.

If it is any consolation, we were in our 1 bedroom until DS was 3.

Threeplus1 · 03/02/2015 12:18

It's going to be very tight for us too sparklypenguin as we have 3dc in a (decent sized) 2 bed apartment, so dc4 will have to be in with us and we don't have room in our bedroom for a full sized cot as the cd have the large room with walk in closet. We are going for a mini crib though will co sleep anyway, so just need it for daytime naps and the like. The mini crib is supposed to be suitable up to about 2 years, and we are planning on returning to the uk before that so makes sense for us to make do in the meantime

Luckystar82 · 03/02/2015 13:03

Sorry to hear so many of you still feel icky. I feel ok now (17+1 today) sickness has gone but back pain starting to kick in!

Does anyone have any experience of the NCT bed nest? I'm thinking of renting it for 6 months for £99. You get a brand new mattress with it. I have read reviews that say it is good for breastfeeding and soothing baby during the night as it means you do not need to get out of bed. But will it be more difficult to separate baby from us when time comes for own room?

I have no experience of babies as this is my first child. I have been offered moses baskets for free but by the time I buy a mattress, feel I should just invest in a bednest if they are really as good as everyone says.

Also - what bedding should I buy for bed nest? No idea about sheets etc.
I've seen people rave about cocoonbaby - does anyone recommend this instead with normal crib.

I'm so confused about all the different sleeping options!!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 03/02/2015 13:30

Ive got another cold, and still throwing up daily at 18 weeks so feeling sorry for myself!

Lucky a friend of mine had the NCT bednest and really rated it. It's on my list of options for this baby! It doesn't seem to get any easier to make a decision when it's your second Confused.

I went to the Bristol Eastgate Mamas and Papas today and wasn't too impressed. There was a lovely ex display crib but it looked a bit battered. I dithered and sent pics to DH who said to go for it, still couldn't make a decision and gave up and went home!

2 days til our private sexing scan, I'm really excited. Unfortunately that also means 2 days til the IL's arrive from abroad for the weekend which I'm bit much looking forward to.

broodylicious · 03/02/2015 13:37

Hi luckySmile that's what I'm looking at too (the NCT bed nest). Looks perfect for us. Re moving baby into their own room later, we had no problems last time when we moved her out at six months, or just after. Babies do need their parents and some for longer than others when it comes to sleeping - eg. our dd is nearly three and she still doesn't sleep a full night in her own bed in her own room and ends up sharing with me or dh. We are cool with that, as we've read a lot about baby psychology and we know she won't want to be with us forever, it's just these formative years - she's still little, after all, and nightmares, teething etc are all things that will affect a baby sleeping.

Oh, that turned into a ramble again, sorry, I keep doing that!

Stinkylinky · 03/02/2015 15:06

Migraine has finally eased, I've had my lovely little jack russell by my side all day, it always amazes me how dogs know when you are under the weather.

Also had some wonderful little movements from baby todayGrin

broodylicious · 03/02/2015 16:17

Back from my 16 week appt with mw. All bloods from booking in are clear so good there. Blood pressure was good too so my five minutes of yoga breathing in the waiting room clearly worked it's magic! Had blood taken for my quad test.... Got an appt for two weeks today to discuss the results when they're in (wtf?! Two weeks?! All you ladies who've had the quad have been getting results after three days?!?!) I declined the opportunity to listen for the HB because I just know I would spend the next four weeks until my 20 anomaly scan worrying my heart out if she couldn't find it, so took any risk out of the situation and decided not to even try. For me, I do not need that worry. Plus, I'm still being sick and feeling quite nauseous every day so I'd like to think everything is ok. Movements will kick in soon enough too so I think I did the best thing for me by not risking it.

Luckystar82 · 03/02/2015 16:24

Thanks GotTo and broodylicious that's helpful feedback. I don't think I'd be ok with child sharing our bed - my parents never let me as a child and I will be going back to FT job with long commute so I would be quite strict about it! But I can see why LO likes it as they feel safer. In most of the world infants co-sleep with parents so it is entirely natural.

I think I will book the bednest in a few weeks as there appears to be a waiting list

Luckystar82 · 03/02/2015 16:31

Hi broody good news on your 16 week appt, my bloods were clear too, good feeling isn't it knowing your healthy! You probably made the right decision about HB - my midwife tried 3 times to hear it but couldn't locate the LO. I'm not too worried as I'm very tall and statuesque so plenty of space for the baby to hide! In the scan the baby was burrowed in my back. 3 weeks until the 20 week scan (when I'll probably be a nervous wreck!)

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 03/02/2015 16:35

Good news Broody. My quad results took 10 days and then only got them because I phoned and left 2 answer phone messages!

Naturegirl82 · 03/02/2015 16:44

lucky we have the bednest and coccoonababy Grin

The bed nest is great. Our only problem is we have a malm IKEA bed (chunky bed frame) which can leave a gap which makes having the side across uncomfortable. I've used it with a normal divan bed though and it was great so hoping to change our bed frame before this little one comes (we were planning on that anyway). We just used an under sheet (John lewis ones fit and are cheaper than nct ones) with a grobag (after we stopped using the coccoonababy).

Highly recommend the cocoobababy though. Dd didn't like being put down but started to sleep good chunks after we started using that. Will definitely be using again this time. We found no problems transitioning from cocoobababy to bednest or bednest to cot (but cot was in our room as well). I would read the instructions if you do decide to get it though as there is info on using blankets with it. Dh reckons that the cocoobababy was one of our best purchases.

MsRyanGosling · 03/02/2015 16:47

Grrr. Typed a message and it dissapeared Angry

broody my quad results came in the post on Day 14! 1 in 100,000 for Downs which I was surprised at given my ripe old age of 37 Grin

jmojo · 03/02/2015 16:54
