Hi ladies, here I am with the questions again. Anyone had group b streptococcal infection before? Had a letter from hospital after my vaginal swab last week and apparantly I have this! Why is nothing straight forward?! First rhesus -blood and now this! Geez Louise!
Anyway I'm interested in people's experiences with it as it says one in every 4or 5 women carries it. Thanks
In advance

I haven't had it but I have looked after LOADS of women with it. It is quite straight forward management and all should be well. I could go into it all but these people are great and I used to refer my women to this site then we would chat about their concerns and worries. gbss.org.uk/

It gets complicated but basically you will need IV antibiotics in labour every 4 hours and so long as you get 2 doses prior to the baby's birth then the baby will just need observing for a day or two (depending on hosp policy). It should stay with you if all is well and the midwife will check he/she over. If you don't get the 2 doses or if there is any other complication they may want to give the baby IV antibiotics for 48 hrs, and depending on the unit this should also be done with the bay staying with you unless there are any signs of infection, in which case it will go to NICU. You should also receive treatment if you are having a C/S again check your hosp policy.

Thanks jmojo that was very helpful. Really appreciate your help. Why do the nhs leaflets lead with the scary bits first lol! Will have a look at the website too. Thanks

fattymcfatfat · 03/02/2015 20:42

Hi people. ..can I join you lovelies? Im 15+6 with dc 3 and no one to moan at!

MsRyanGosling · 03/02/2015 20:53

Nice name Grin

fattymcfatfat · 03/02/2015 21:04

Grin thanks it really suits me atm! I get a massive belly really early, then baby fills it, then eventually baby gets too big for it and belly has to grow again to accommodate! So already I feel like a whale!

MsRyanGosling · 03/02/2015 21:06

I'm on dc4 and think I look 7m+ Grin

When I told someone end of June they had to work hard to hide their shock ! I think they were expecting me to say April Grin

Aretepetite · 03/02/2015 21:29

Hello ladies

Finally in pjs, soo tired. DS2 Birthday has been exhausting but worth it - he informed me that it's been his 'best' birthday Grin makes it all worthwhile.

I'm feeling a tad nervous about tomorrow (20 wk scan) I will let you know how we get on.

Glad to hear you had a good family day out Broody. No such thing as bad weather, only wrong clothing :)

Hope you are all starting to feel a bit better Flowers

Will catch up properly tomorrow. I know I will sleep tonight at least.

Night all.

WiIdfire · 03/02/2015 21:46

Jmojo - I have Group B strep too, so thanks for the info, it was really useful.

fattymcfatfat · 03/02/2015 22:13

My dd (13months) hss discovered that my belly can be used as a table for her sippy cup!
Arete...are you finding out the sex? And good luck. Canf wait for mine! But not until beginning of March

Butler4 · 03/02/2015 22:32

That's good to know wildfire, never heard of it before. Pretty sure we are due about the same time too.

Sherbet38 · 03/02/2015 23:18

Hi ladies

Hope those of you who aren't feeling great start to feel better soon Thanks

Hope your 20 week scan goes well arete.

I had my 16 wk appointment today. Everything went well, bloods were clear, BP was normal and I heard the heart beat Smile

My midwife seems to be really keen on home births... which I like the idea of, but I'm just not convinced for our first baby. Is anyone, particularly first timers, considering a home birth?

17+3

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 04/02/2015 08:56

Sherbert this is DC2 for me but had a home birth with my first, it was great (well, you know, for labour anyway Wink ). All went smoothly, I felt much more relaxed than I would at hospital which I know is not the case for everybody. The midwives were brilliant and I had 2 there the whole time, 3 for the birth which is much better ratio than I would have had in hospital. They mainly left DH and I to get on with it so I felt I could just really concentrate and do things my way. Afterwards was v relaxed, just got in to my own bed with baby and DH brought me some food etc and stayed there the rest of the day! I would really recommend it but only if you (and DP) feel confident about it otherwise you might struggle to relax and the intensity of labour for the first time can be pretty scary, was for me anyway! I did lots of reading on the risks etc and we weren't that far from the hospital which helped, maybe talk to your midwife about any concerns or worries and see how you feel? Also important that DP is comfortable with he has a big role keeping you calm and supported at home and it wouldn't do for him to panic! My DH loved it as he didn't feel out of place/in the way as it was his house, he loves to feel useful! We'll be having another home birth this time if all goes well.
Sorry for the ramble, hope that helps.

Aretepetite · 04/02/2015 09:06

WantToGoingTo · 04/02/2015 17:38

Hello everyone!

Just catching up, so many messages! I am afraid I have been following the fb group more recently as been so busy and I get f notifications on m phone so easy to respond.

So exciting to hear scan news, we are keeping ours a surprise but lovely to hear about the little girls and boys!

I feel so yuk atm and distinctly unpregnant. My skin is awful, I feel like a teenager again which makes me feel less professional at work. And my hair is really oily, my face gets oily at the end of the day and my skin is itchy. But am eating normally, and just feel a bit fat! Keep wondering whether I have dreamed up having a baby in m tummy!

Will try to keep up from now on, good luck to any scans/mw appts - I have my 16 week mw appt on Friday

Sherbet38 · 04/02/2015 17:47

Congratulations Arete Smile

Thanks Mister that's really useful to know about your experience. I like the idea of a home birth, but my DH isn't convinced! Plenty of time to talk more about it Smile
