Thanks ohlordy details all added...I think!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 29/01/2015 11:53

Butler I had similar at 15 weeks, although the bleeding was like the first day of a period. They scanned me and all was fine and they couldn't find a reason for the bleed at all. Just said I may have a sensitive cervix and to go back if it happened again.

BadIdeaBear · 29/01/2015 11:54

Hi hippy and super welcome to the thread! Ooooh flakes...!

Saw a childminder today - planning ahead rather madly, I suppose, but thought it would be good to get a feeling and then be actually able to get the one we want.

Not doing the Aldi Baby Event today - hoping they'll do another before July - does anyone know how regular they are?

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 29/01/2015 11:57

Just come back from my 16 week appointment, all well and got to hear a lovely heartbeat, yey! I might have low iron reserves though, the midwife took some more blood to check and if so I'll have to take iron tablets. They really mess with my digestion so hoping not!

Welcome to super and hippy! Butler if just a pinprick with no pain etc. I really wouldn't worry, most likely just something has slightly aggravated your cervix or something, hope the midwife is helpful anyway.

I'm hoping for snow here but not until tonight (after I have to walk up and down the hill to fetch DS), it is forecast and DS gets really excited about it so fingers crossed.

Broody I'm near Whipsnade, it's brilliant! Not cheap though...

Butler4 · 29/01/2015 13:23

At hospital now, I love our nhs. They are fab. Blood taken and sent to be checked. Urine checked and blood pressure. Had an internal by doc who is referring to a registrar as there are some red swelling that they have never seen before so want to check it out. Will need anti d as well.

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 29/01/2015 13:42

Is anyone here an alpha thalassaemia carrier or know anything about this? Midwife mentioned it at my appointment and said my booking bloods show I'm a possible carrier but it might be low iron reserves, hence follow up blood tests. When I asked about the carrier thing she said it's not clinically relevant, however have just looked it up and seems to mean if DH is also a carrier then the baby has 1 in 4 chance of being born with thalassaemia disease so they are supposed to offer to test the dad's blood Confused

To be honest I'm not too worried about it as I suspect it's actually the iron thing, otherwise they should have picked it up in my last pregnancy (it's genetic so can't have changed since last time!) but slightly unsettled that the midwife just dismissed it without explanation. Has anyone come across this before?

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 29/01/2015 13:43

Oh good that they are being so thorough Butler, hope everything comes back clear.

TouchPauseEngage · 29/01/2015 13:46

butler fingers crossed everything is fine. Sure it will be.

Well I'm well and truly snowed in! Made it to work only for my boss to ring and tell me to go home. Glad I did as the main road into town is now shut. I hope all the Chestefield dwellers on this thread are ok- I've heard it's terrible there!

Number3cometome · 29/01/2015 13:53

FX Butler, glad to see they are checking you over properly.

BadIdeaBear Mine already has a place at nursery booked haha!

ohlordyplordy · 29/01/2015 13:53

Luckily i'd taken a flexi day today Touch. Chesterfield is really bad! Went out first thing to Aldi and weather wasn't too bad then, but by about 10:00 it was coming down thick and fast. I've been wrapped up warm inside since, watching cars swerve around trying to get up my road, and being pushed up the main road at the end of ours. It's stopped falling now and the sun has come out, so hopefully that will clear some of the roads.

jmojo · 29/01/2015 14:04

mister we used to screen for thalasemia at booking for all women slong with sickle crll. It is a straight forward blood test and thevresults take a few days. As you say they may have done it already. If you are a carrier the next step is to screen dad. It is unusual in caucasian but you can get most often in people of Mediterranean descent and southern asia.
butler hope all is well!

WantToGoingTo · 29/01/2015 14:07

Fx butler hopefully nothing to worry about Thanks

TouchPauseEngage · 29/01/2015 14:10

Oh I'm jealous you got to Aldi Lordy! I work in Tupton so was going to go there on my way home. No chance now! Sun is out here too now- it's lovely as long as you aren't driving!

In other news...my belly button is starting to turn inside out!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 29/01/2015 14:12

No snow here in the SW, gutted as DD would love to play out in her new wellies Smile

ohlordyplordy · 29/01/2015 14:22

They had plenty of stock, but not every single thing from the flier touch, so hopefully you'll be in luck another day.
Eek re the belly button, it must feel kindof weird! Grin

StoneBaby · 29/01/2015 14:22

Got a place in nursery too. Paid the deposit this morning. One more thing sorted

Butler fx it's all fine and good they're checking all options

No snow here but it's very rare in the Channel Islands

SophieBarringtonWard · 29/01/2015 14:36

MisterSafety presumably they are double checking your results, and if you are a carrier they will then check DH? But your status won't have changed since your last pregnancy so you can't have become a carrier! I have been checked in all three pregnancies, because it was routine for DC1 and DC2, and because my dad is from southern Africa (despite the fact that he is white English descent).

Stinkylinky · 29/01/2015 14:37

Stonebaby, when is little one going to be starting nursery? I've got a couple of nurseries in mind but wasn't sure how soon I would need to enquire about places etc

Number3cometome · 29/01/2015 14:41

Stinkylinky Start now, you don't have to commit to anything, but may find most good nurseries have waiting lists, also you will want to check the place out and their Ofsted reports etc

My DC will be starting in September all being well.

StoneBaby · 29/01/2015 14:44

stinky it'll start around 18th November 2015

Stinkylinky · 29/01/2015 14:45

Thanks guys. I was originally only going to take 6 months maternity leave but now I'm taking a year I've put nurseries on the back burner but I shall start making enquiries

BadIdeaBear · 29/01/2015 14:51

Yeah, that's why I thought I was being a bit excessive, cos I'll be doing 9-11 months, so I don't need FT childcare till July 2016 - seemed a bit mad! But apparently not, according to the people who've contacted me back. Glad I'm doing it! And glad to know I'm not the only one!

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 29/01/2015 14:57

Sophie no they are only checking my iron levels, my notes just say 'not clinically significant' next to the bit about being a carrier for thalasseamia Confused. However DH and I are both from very low risk groups so it would be very rare for us both to be carriers, if the iron results come back normal I may raise it again at my next appointment.

Stinky it partly depends on availability of good nurseries near you. I didn't get DS booked in until less than a month before I was starting work (very good nursery) and it was no problem but there were a choice of 3 or 4 good nurseries in my small town at the time. Sometimes you can just ask to be put on a waiting list but you have to pay a fee or deposit to do so at some nurseries.

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 29/01/2015 15:02

BadIdea good childminders need planning much further in advance than nurseries I have found, couldn't get one for DS in time when I first started back at work, he is with one now but we had to wait 3 months for a space to open up after we moved house and were lucky to get in when we did. I'm impressed at your organisation though, hadn't even thought about childcare yet!

fattycow · 29/01/2015 15:09

I am not worried about childcare, as my mum will be more that happy to babysit for us.
