Haven't slept a wink. Mixture of being too warm and my brain thinking up stuff it deems as important at 5 am while my partner is snoring away haha ... And excitement too. Funny how life changes xSmile

Twinkletoes007 · 09/02/2015 07:26

I had a bit of a panic last night. Really didn't expect to see a BFP so quickly. My immediate ridiculous hormonal concerns:

  1. I'm not grown up enough for this!
  2. I need my hair highlighted within the next few weeks -can I do this?
  3. I need to get into a bridesmaid dress in 4 months - please tell me I wont be showing by then. I'm tall a size 10 and sporty and it's my first. However abdomen disgustingly bloated already and it's week 1/2!
  4. Hen weekend is at a spa hotel with hot tubs saunas etc.
  5. Am going to South Africa in a few months - we booked a holiday thinking it could take a while to conceive. Now I've got a 12 hour flight to grapple with. Eeeek.
  6. Job - am worried about the reaction.I feel like I'm going to be letting them down.

Sorry for this!! I think it's all just sinking in and becoming real! Any words of wisdom or a slap greatly appreciated

Twinkletoes007 · 09/02/2015 07:29

Congratulations nail!

HettyB · 09/02/2015 07:37

twinkle the worries are normal. I'm not worrying enough about the realities of having a baby yet, but DP is doing enough of that for both of us!

Highlights are fine, because they don't touch your scalp. To be honest, I think any hair colour is probably ok as long as you're not doing it every week.

The second trimester is apparently the best time to go away, as you're likely to be over any morning sickness and not yet so big you feel really uncomfortable, so it sounds as if your SA holiday is perfectly timed!

On the less positive side, I'd guess you're going to be showing at 5 months, at least a little bit, but you might be ok if the dress isn't too fitted on the tummy. And no hot tubs or saunas...

I'm not sure anyone ever feels grown up enough for a baby. But we will manage regardless!

crazypuglady · 09/02/2015 07:48

Thanks cine don't feel too bad this morning but think I'm going to get some in anyway. If it's anything like yesterday evenings will be worse.

BitchBags · 09/02/2015 08:27

Morning everyone and welcome to all the newbies.
Wow this thread moves so fast! tmi alert but the past couple of days I have been getting shooting pains up my bum. Is this normal? I dont remember having this with Ds. the acid reflux came back with a vengeance last night :( I can't take gave skin either (the texture of it makes me puke even when not pg) so will be off to the docs for some tablets soon

BitchBags · 09/02/2015 08:28

Gave skin? That's supposed to be gaviscon obviously!

Cineraria · 09/02/2015 10:10

I was having insomnia in the mornings for the last few weeks too nailgirl but it seems to have stopped now. Hopefully it will stop soon for you too. I still wake up a lot due to needing the loo and having weird nightmares but I feel so heavy headed and drowsy that I go straight back to sleep. Actually, on Sunday I had just slept for twelve hours and been up for about an hour when I started yawning and feeling like I needed to go back to sleep again!

Try not to worry too much Twinkle. It's good that you've thought of all these things now, so you can prepare well and avoid the problems later. Maybe see if you can book a pregnancy massage at the spa hotel or see if they can recommend anything else they have that you can join in with safely, so you have something to look forward to.

Perhaps also look at getting some compression stockings for your long flight, and see if the airline offer any guidance or special support for pregnant travellers so you feel prepared, e.g. getting seats with more legroom or near the loo. Have you already checked what your travel insurance covers you for related to pregnancy, so you don't have to worry about that nearer the time?

MrsEvansAlmost · 09/02/2015 10:11

I've been getting shooting pains in my cervix. especially when I get into the car?! odd. ive got the midwife Wednesday so I'll quiz her then!

crazypuglady · 09/02/2015 10:20

I had that last night mrsevans when I was lying in bed. Kept me awake worrying for a while but no bleeding and it went off after about an hour.

I've told DH I need a book with a list of what's normal. I haven't got anyone to talk to in RL at the mo as DHs parents are away for a couple of weeks and we want to tell the parents first.

ibeka · 09/02/2015 10:44

twinkle, join the club.... I think it must be normal. My worries are mainly work related. I do a lot of outdoors ed and have organised various hiking/camping trips and am also meant to be going on the German exchange all in June/July. Also meant to be going to snowdonia next month and am worrying about all of these!

cine I have that series on DVD for teaching at school so know it well! I love its 90s vibe!

I'm really worrying today because last night I moved suddenly (from lying on my side to sitting up) and got the most awful stitch like pain in my right side. Really ripping pain and today it is achy and tender in that reason. I did have some indigestion at the time and also get IBS so am praying it's to do with that but I've convinced myself it may be ectopic and am panicking like a crazy lady....

ibeka · 09/02/2015 10:47

Should read: achy and tender in that area

crazypuglady · 09/02/2015 10:48

I'm watching call the midwife on catchup. And just burst into tears at the sight of a baby being born. I think I can add hormonal wreck to my list of symptoms Blush

Glossyflower · 09/02/2015 12:04

Welcome all new ladies. I can hardly keep up with all the posts.
Well I am absolutely knackered, I feel so weak atm. Also no real signs of HG yet and I'm 5+4 so hoping I won't although this morning when eating my toast I had a pang of nausea.
I get really hungry quite often and feel weak with it. DH even made me some tea and toast at 1am the other night. Xxx

Hotpotpie · 09/02/2015 12:49

I've noticed that I'm eating like food is going out of fashion. God help my waist line! I'm trying to eat good things but all I want is bread!

crazypuglady · 09/02/2015 13:01

I'm only 3+6. Can't decide if I want to eat more because I'm upduffed or because I have an excuse Hmm

Cineraria · 09/02/2015 13:43

Ibeka, I'm trying to imagine the reaction of a class of 30 schoolchildren when he says "These are sperm; in fact, they are my sperm. There are enough of them there to fertilise all the women in western Europe, and I'm nothing special!" I'm afraid my own reaction to that was more suited to a teenager when I first saw it. He sat behind me once in the theatre and I'm so glad I hadn't seen the programme at that point. I really couldn't have concentrated on the play if I had.

Glad you're not feeling too sick yet, Glossy. Hope it stays that way this time.

WhereIsMyFurryHat · 09/02/2015 13:57

Phew, I'm glad insomnia is happening to some others. I'm getting it too.

ibeka that pain sounds like round ligament pain, it's worth googling to see if it sounds the same. If so, it's totally normal.

I am being neurotic and convincing myself that there's something wrong. I had a mmc between my 2nd and 3rd which was discovered around 10 weeks so I'm convincing myself the same is happening again.

I'm fining keeping up with the pace of this thread difficult. Loads of October babies.Smile

Twinkletoes007 · 09/02/2015 15:07

Thanks for the replies and tips. Feeling better but I do swing between excitement and terror in a matter of seconds!

When you found out you were pg what do you do next? Book a doctors appt? I doubt I will get one with mine within the next 9 months! They're so rubbish! I'm probably not going to do anything until after AF date passes which is Wednesday as I don't want to jinx anything.

Hope you're ok ibeka. Sure it is nothing to worry about but you can't help but analyse every new pain or twinge. I am thinking about nothing else - productivity at work is bordering on zero. I really need to focus but am feeling so lethargic. Is this normal or maybe i am imagining it. It is Monday after all!

Twinkletoes007 · 09/02/2015 15:09

Oh and I'm eating disgusting amounts. Gone off sweet stuff big time which is so unlike me and actually one of the things that made me wonder if I was pg. Gone off red wine too. Which is lucky I guess!

Ca55andraMortmain · 09/02/2015 15:10

Well I've had a slightly stressful day today with some bleeding this morning. Had a total panic and went to a spectacularly unsympathetic GP who finished sending a text before saying 'it might be a miscarriage'. Couldn't decide whether to cry or punch the fucker. Anyway, eventually called the early pregnancy unit where the lovely midwife said it didn't sound like a miscarriage and to try not to panic. Have spent the rest of the day in bed as couldn't face dealing with my unruly class today while manically knicker checking every 20 seconds. Bleeding seems to have stopped, thank God but am now getting worried that I dont feel nauseous... Someone knock some sense into me!

Hotpotpie · 09/02/2015 15:18

How stressful ca55andramortmain, if it helps I bled a lot in my first pregnancy, and, more to the point I had no symptoms of pregnancy weeks 4-12, in my opinion this is the worst trimester of the bloody lot!

Cineraria · 09/02/2015 15:19

Probably best to call your GP and ask what the procedure is, Twinkle. Mine like to have a first appointment with pregnant women to weigh them, take blood pressure and check their diet and folic acid intake but some will just give you the midwife team number so you can refer yourself directly.

I actually changed my GP when I found out I was pregnant as the others were useless at organising appointments and I got so annoyed with them. I looked on the NHS Choices website and found the one with the best ratings near me. I'm really glad I did as the new ones are excellent with online booking and very helpful reception staff (can't tell if the GPs are better as I never managed to see one at the last place!). I think I booked the appointment for when I was about six weeks as I'd already planned to work from home that day for another appointment.

Cineraria · 09/02/2015 15:22

Sorry to hear that Ca55andra, especially how badly you were treated by the GP. They should have referred you to the EPU. Glad it's stopped now and that you're having a rest today rather than chasing around after your class.

Ca55andraMortmain · 09/02/2015 15:27

Thanks hotpot, it's reassuring to hear someone else has had the same. I never thought that I would be so worried so early. I was only TTC for a month and bfp was a massive shock. I didn't think I was so attached to this baby, but I got the fright of my life when I saw blood this morning and suddenly I desperately wanted it to stick around.
twinkle as others have said, i think it depends where you are. My gp didn't even double check the preganacy, just asked if I was sure the test was positive and gave me the number to self refer to the midwife. No mention of healthy eating, folic acid or anything. Guess I'll get all of that from the midwife at 8 weeks. Although as noted above, my GP's bedside manner leaves much to be desired!
