Your rib cage definitely expands Orville so don't worry about that! It's mental what happens to our insides to allow the baby to grow.

cuphat · 23/01/2015 16:00

sunbathing I've never heard of an anterior placenta moving. From what I read last time it's nothing to worry about. The main worry is the lack of feeling movement so it's harder to keep an eye on the pattern of movement. I think they note it as they need to know about it if you have a c-section, for example.

Newbie, I've been exactly the same since I had DD. DH and I have both taken out life insurance since having her. I'm on a career break but if something did happen to me DH would need to pay for childcare. I worry about it quite a lot, actually.

Great scan news teeste and forty.

Orville it is true - my rib cage definitely expanded last time! I'm very slim on my upper half (wish I could say the same for the bottom half!) and could feel my ribs clearly so it wasn't the extra weight. Luckily my rib cage did go back to normal after the birth!

Teeste · 23/01/2015 16:16

Scan buddy and baby boy high five forty Grin He looks gorgeous!

Chookford · 23/01/2015 16:32

gmforgy congrats on your baby boy!

orville yes ribvage expands I've had to get some bra extenders- life saver they are so much more comfortable now!!

Chookford · 23/01/2015 16:32

Rib cage bloody auto correct! Angry

Chookford · 23/01/2015 16:33

Oh for Christ sake forty

Emz1989 · 23/01/2015 16:53

I was convinced my boobs had grown an insane amount but was measured in mothercare last week and I've actually only increased by 1 cup size and 1 back size - hasn't realised how much my ribs had expanded, quite reassuring to know that it's not just chub!!
Buba I think it's inspirational how positive and upbeat you're being - as others have said that's why we use this thread, so we have a place to vent, share and advise.
I've been to a funeral this afternoon, nobody I was particularly close to, I was pretty much just there to represent my school as he was a regular visitor. Didn't think I'd struggle too much as I had no real emotional attachment to the guy, but I've found the whole afternoon totally emotionally draining. Lots of pregnancy symptoms have died down - but obviously still lots of extra hormones whizzing around my system as I found it really difficult to keep it together!

Orville82 · 23/01/2015 17:02

Thanks for your help ladies. Just ordered 3X nude & 3X black bra extenders from eBay. Hopefully they'll save me having to buy new bras for now at least as my cup size definitely hasn't changed! 34tinytiny!

sparkle17 · 23/01/2015 17:15

Congrats on the scans ladies. Another boy for the junebugs. As I've said before it keeps on making me feel like I'm having a girl as surely there has to be some balance. Obviously not scientific at all.

Interesting fact about the rib cage. Might take my measurements.

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 23/01/2015 17:41

forty lovely scan pics of your little boy. So many boys in the group.

Hello ladies I keep loosing you all. Ive seen a few of you on the fb page and been liking all your scan pics. For anyone that didn't know it looks like we are having a girl. ?? the official line was they couldn't see any male parts and she had a very obvious view. Just wondering what others were told in relation to girls. The correctly identified my dd 15 years ago, and all my 4 boys so I'm thinking they are quite accurate.

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 23/01/2015 20:27

MrsE all private sonographer said was she, and I quote "couldn't see any dangly bits*, she said at 17 weeks plus, a boy would be very obvious, as we did ask how likely she thought ours was a girl. She gave us their accuracy rate of 99.6% which is good enough for me to venture into a few baby shops to buy a little pink.

Tryingreallyhard84 · 23/01/2015 20:50

Forty - lovely scan pic.

Congratulations to today's scanees. Grin

I've just ordered what felt like the only pair of short length skinny jeans left on the internet. I needed black. I now have 3 pairs of jeans, 2 tights, leggings and a few dresses, top and cardis. Will search out my skinny belts. Also need to search for scarves as my chest is full of spots so need cover up options. The joy!

So glad it's the weekend. Bet many of us are.

cuphat · 23/01/2015 20:52

How lovely tori.

The sonographer told us they were 96% sure DD was a girl at 16 weeks. I spent the entire pregnancy wondering if they were right after too much googling! To be honest, although I'm sure they mostly get it right I wouldn't trust general accuracy rates as I doubt everyone actually lets them know if they get it wrong (I wouldn't have for example if 16 week and 20 week scans said girl and it was a boy at birth).

htf2 · 23/01/2015 21:12

Unless they really can't get a view it seems to me pretty difficult to 'miss' boy bits on the scan - on ours the first lady said it pretty softly in the middle of saying other stuff so we asked again a bit later to make sure we hadn't misheard! and she zoomed in on his bits so they were the size of the screen - unmistakeable! and far too zoomed in for me , I wanted to say that's my little baby, please put it away!

We bought a cot today, on ebay, a bit more than I had originally planned, so lucky we are planning more children, (even though I can't contemplate going through the first 4 months again for a few years). And hopefully the car hubby goes to look at tomorrow is a winner so he buys that so we can go and pick it up!

Newgirl33 · 23/01/2015 21:12

Evening all,

Has anyone got any views on NCT vs hospital antenatal classes?

I'm booked on one at the hospital for a day in April. The NCT ones are a couple of hours over a few weeks.

Got my 20 week scan on weds night - feel a bit anxious! Hope the little one is doing ok. Hardly got a bump and not felt any definite movement

Buba - I wish you all the best :)

All this talk of bras makes me want to share this:

thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk/p/fitting-advice.html?m=1

Lots of women still wear the wrong size bra. Most people are smaller in the back and bigger in the cup than traditionally measured. Modern bras have better stretch so you don't need to add all those inches any more.

A well fitting bra is vital in pregnancy as a poorly fitting wired bra may rest on breast tissue and restrict your milk making bits. Same for after birth if bf - wires are fine if they fit and do not sit on breast tissue.

Lecture over ... This is something in really passionate about! A well fitting bra will drop you a dress size and improve your posture.

Re: NCT/NHS classes - we did NCT, mostly for DH's benefit as DD was his first (and mine after a long gap). They were great. We had a really open minded facilitator, no one felt pushed towards a hippy style birth in the woods etc. The bf session was especially useful. We made great friends who live reasonably close by. I think I'd ask around to see if your local facilitator is a good one. Seems it can be pot luck (from what I've read on MN).

Chookford · 23/01/2015 21:29

cuphat · 23/01/2015 21:36

Newgirl, do you know anyone who's been to the classes in your local area? As they seem to vary wildly between areas. Our NHS classes were great, they were a couple of hours a week over a number of weeks. There was then a separate half day breastfeeding class at the hospital.

Newgirl33 · 23/01/2015 21:40

cuphat unfortunately not. I haven't lived in the area long and don't have any friends with children in the area. I don't really want to spend £120 if the NHS course is fine.
