Ohh bub, how scary and not the news i'm sure u were hoping for but am so glad you are in safe hands and it sounds like the hospital has already starting to put a careplan in place for when ur little man arrives.

Like u say it is probably going to be a very emotional/stressful 12 months ahead but with advances in science and surgery techniques i'm sure ur little man will be cared for with 100% commitment from his team of doctors.

In the meantime i hope u can enjoy your pregnancy and get him fit and strong for his birth

Sending lots of love x x x

Thanks love cats.

Yes they've been incredible with help and information and support.

Over 50% of these get missed in scans and parents go home with what they think is a healthy baby after the birth until suddenly they go blue, struggle to breath and in some awful cases pass away before the parents can do anything.

At least we know. Smile

My goodness Bubalou - what a thing to find out. Sounds like you're in good hands and they've identified it early enough to get stuff in place and for you to get your heads round what is happening (if that's even possible). I can't say much else other than hugs and thoughts to you.

Oh Buba, oh my god what a lot to take in. I hope you aren’t feeling too sick/worried!

It’s amazing that they have picked this up though, and they will have a team waiting to help him as soon as he arrives. You/he will have second to none care – that is for certain. Thank god they picked this up.
Big hugs for you.

Is London far from home for you all?

Thanks for the reassurance re chicken pox. I’m definitely immune as I remember the hell of having it at about age 7! If DS gets it though I will double check my immunity quickly!

cuphat · 21/01/2015 16:05

That is a lot to take in bubalou. I'm glad they're looking after you so well, it definitely sounds like you'll be in the best hands. It's good that there's a plan in place already.

I echo how great it is that we have anomaly scans, it wasn't so long ago that there weren't any scans during pregnancy (my mum didn't have any when pregnant with me). But I also realise that there is lots that the scans don't pick up; our radiologist did warn us that just because everything they checked was fine it wasn't a guarantee that everything would be fine with baby at birth.

cuphat · 21/01/2015 16:07

Welcome zombie!

cuphat · 21/01/2015 16:09

And ellstor!

cuphat · 21/01/2015 16:10

Glad your scan went well pas.

RabidZombie · 21/01/2015 16:15

Thanks cup hat Smile

Wow, what news Buba. It must have totally knocked you for six, but you sound very optimistic in your posts. It is far better to know in advance as you say as everything is in place for your little guys arrival and care post birth. I hope the rest of your pregnancy is blissfully boring Flowers

AnythingNotEverything · 21/01/2015 16:18

Welcome new ladies!

Bubalou I'm really glad you've got a diagnosis - that's the first step. Sounds like there's a plan in place to look after you all, and I bet the hospital is experienced in this procedure. Hope you and DH can support each other and allow yourselves a good cry xx

Chookford · 21/01/2015 16:49

buba I'm sorry it wasn't the news you were hoping for but it's amazing what they can do nowadays and your little man is in the best possible hands, it will be a stressful period but I'm sure everything will be fine it's flap good they picked this up when they did, you sound amazingly strong and upbeat and your little boy will benefit from that too x

Welcome zombie sounds like you had a bit of a ride to get here, congrats on your baby girl

ellstor hello and welcome to June bugs we are just as lovely as the May bugs Grin

Tranquilitybaby · 21/01/2015 17:48

I can imagine it's a huge amount of overwhelming information you and your DH have to process right now. But as you say, at least it's been picked up now and you'll all be in the best possible hands from the start. Thinking of you and hope you're not too shaken up.

croon979 · 21/01/2015 17:52

Buba, just been reading your update. Can imagine it is a lot to take in and process. Would just echo what others have said that I am glad you are getting the appropriate support and can have a plan in place. Your little boy will be very well looked after. Sending thoughts and hugs xx

croon979 · 21/01/2015 17:55

Tryingreallyhard - nice that you have the flexibility to either do something like me and have several weeks off beforehand or alternatively carry them over. Maybe play it by ear for a few weeks to see how you are feeling. If your boss is still difficult, you may welcome the break beforehand as stress is not what you need.

AnythingNotEverything · 21/01/2015 18:09

Bubalou - a friend whose DD has CHD suggested you look at Lagans Foundation. They have a fb page. They offer great support and forums apparently.

Just logged in looking for an update from you buba. Not the news I was hoping to read for you, but as everyone above has said - how fortunate that you have been made aware of this issue now and have a few months to prepare and get your head around it. It sounds like he'll be born into safe hands and be surrounded by the best care!
Is London local for you?

bubalou · 21/01/2015 19:18

Thank you all. Smile

It is a lot and do feel like I'm in a bit of a bad dream but the team was amazing and so supportive and reassuring.

We're off to center parcs this Friday with the whole family and I'm glad of the timing as we really need the week away.

Really appreciate all the support. I'm ok and it's great it's been picked up. They said how good the sonographer was to pick up this particular thing.Smile

ChatEnOeuf · 21/01/2015 19:20

Ah Bubalou Brew and Cake. It's a lot to take in, but at least there's a plan - and speaking from a NICU perspective, we like plans, and we're good at following them. You'll be in the best hands. Will you be getting some more scans later in the pregnancy now? If you want me to give you some info about TGA/congenital heart support groups, let me know. My friend's baby went through the same about five years ago, you would never know it today (she's in better shape than her little sister, who has a completely normal heart!)

Welcome newbies :)

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 21/01/2015 19:21

buba what an awful lot of information to take on board, really must have been a huge shock to you both. I do have to say tho, I am seriously impressed at the speed in which you have been referred and a plan put in place for you. Hopefully it's a little comfort that they know exactly what needs to be done to rectify it, the advances in medical science are amazing. It's fab that you will have a full team behind you ensuring you all get the best of care.

Tranquilitybaby · 21/01/2015 19:31

Have a wonderful relaxing time at Center Oarcs, you truly deserve the break.

bubalou · 21/01/2015 19:52

Thank you. Smile

Elizabeth - I will never let people knock the NHS again. I know it's not perfect but when it really counts they go all out. At one point there were 4 specialists in a room looking at the heart on ultrasound.

They then asked us if we wanted seperate checks for the rest of the baby to be thorough and check there were no other abnormalities. The lady went off and said I will arrange to fit you in today as you travelled so far.

She came back 3 mins later and lead us into a room with a specialist sonographer and the head sonographer who spent 20 mins checking everything for us - and he is perfect everywhere else. Smile

They took loads of photos for us - including 3d scans, his legs, feet, face etc and printed them all off and gave them to us.

Smile He's a handsome boy.

Chat - thank you, I haven't gone through all the leaflets and information but the head woman who was dealing with us gave us alot including support information for groups and charities etc.

Smile
