Thinking of you this morning Bubalou, hope your journey into London goes well, hearing on news all forms of transport seem to have gone loopy this morning Sad and all goes well with your appointment Flowers

fortywinx · 21/01/2015 09:14

Congrats on your girl scan zach!

Thinking of you this morning buba. Fingers crossed for you. Flowers

We have similar worries emz. I'm the one who earns the main wage as the full-timer, my OH is a full-time student and works part-time. Annoyingly I will be off during the school holidays when I would normally be paid usual wage even though I wouldn't be in work, but will only get paid SMP for those weeks. Trying to save up enough money so that I can have 6 months off mat leave, and pay for the things the baby needs is hard work!

speedbird17 · 21/01/2015 09:16

Totally with you on the money front Emz, my company are being a bit awful about my existing Childcare vouchers which they are legally obliged to give us throughout even if we are only entitled to SMP. I have had to raise a grievance and go through the union to get my case heard. It's already been a bit stressful, and I know the worst is yet to come, but it will be worth it to get nearly £3000 I am entitled to but currently won't be receiving!

Good luck today bubalou, a few things running west out of paddington have been cancelled due to a derailed train, but hopefully that won't affect your journey!

Getting ruddy awful heartburn every night now, so bad it feels like there is acid burning my throat (sorry tmi!) Rennie are barely touching it, just wondering if anyone else is suffering?

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 21/01/2015 09:19

Hope this morning is helpful for you bubalou and sets your mind at ease a bit xx

Tranquilitybaby · 21/01/2015 09:20

Hope your appointment is very positive today buba. X

JennyOfOldstones · 21/01/2015 09:33

Good luck today buba sending positive vibes.

I am another one worrying about money, only taking 7 months and won't be paid for 5. Madly saving now to try and cover the bills.

Re heartburn mine is awful too, a friend said ranitidine is safe during pregnancy. You can buy it over the counter but I am going to try and get the doc to prescribe some. It stops the acid being produced in the first place so better than Rennie or gaviscon. Although the double action gaviscon is working ok for me at the moment it is getting steadily worse!

Quick question ladies, there has been a confirmed case of chickenpox at DS' nursery. Argh!
He had a mild form of it when he was really little but from what I've heard they can get it again if they get it under 1.
Anyway, so we are waiting to see if he gets it.

Apparently its dangerous to pregnant women and unborn babies. I've had chicken pox myself as a child, does this mean my baby is safe or not? Anyone know??

Yeah I think I will. Haven't got the number with me stupidly!

I found this from Dr Google though which is reassuring.

Scan was late so legging it to work now - just checking in to say all good at scan, baby was flashing but sonographer told us when to look away so identity remains a mystery!!

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 21/01/2015 11:55

emz and forty we have similar issues with money. OH currently isn't working as he gave up work to look after his dd, she's now at school but he can't get any job as he could only work 9am-3pm as he would have to free to drop off and pick up his dd from school (her mum has severe mental illness). I finished a contract work and discovered I was pregnant and then found despite interviews through an agency, few people will hire a pregnant woman.
However OH is moving into my house by feb half term so he is then going to work and I will take over school runs, the house is expected to sell fairly quickly so if that happens then money wise will be totally fine as it's mortgage free and was my parents house so has shot up in value over the 34 years they owned it. Still a worry tho.

Hoping bubalou appointment went well, no snow here just ruddy cold, even colder because I switched heating off totally last night instead of just turning it down.

Chookford · 21/01/2015 12:31

pas great news on the good scan results, congrats!

jazzyjenbo · 21/01/2015 12:40

Jackie, it is only an issue if you have not had chicken pox... If you have you should be immune.... My ds had it the week i was due with dd.

Pas, great to hear your scan went well x

speedbird17 · 21/01/2015 12:50

Glad your scan was all good Pas and you got to look away at the right moments :)

ChatEnOeuf · 21/01/2015 13:03

Jackie if you are immune, then your baby is protected. If you can't be sure, or you can't remember having it, get the MW to do bloods to check your status. If you are not immune and DS happens to catch it again (which is by no means a certainty) then you can receive treatment to prevent you from getting it - needs to be given fairly quickly once you're exposed though so don't piss about :)

croon979 · 21/01/2015 13:12

Thinking of you Bubalou - hope today goes well.

Glad to hear that there have been some lovely updates and scans, Pas and others. Girls now catching up a little with the boy numbers.

I have my 20 week scan tomorrow and looking forward to it. I have also just agreed my holidays and maternity leave dates with work which is both exciting and scary! Have worked in some place for 14 years since I left uni so it is quite a big deal for me to have 11 months off work, provisional return 1st March 2016. I finish work on April 17th if all goes according to plan and take holidays until my maternity leave starts on 1st June. Due date currently 9th June. I have to do it this way as I am not able to carry my days to the next holiday year so i will lose them otherwise but I am quite happy about this. Really looking forward to some "me" time, nesting, preparing for baby, batch-cooking, reading, walking....so basically just 13 weeks left in work - argh! That makes things real!

Tryingreallyhard84 · 21/01/2015 13:34

Pas - Great news and funny to hear you've got a flashing baby Grin

Croon - In regards to what you're doing with your hols, I'm toying with the same thing BUT I do have the opportunity to carry them to next year and tag them on to the end of my mat leave (i.e get paid a full wage for a month before returning). I don't know what to do for the best. I don't have to decide just yet and I'm sure it will depend on the stress of the job (I work with a right knobjockey so he might be what pushes me over the edge). Must be great to have it sorted and know you've got some time to "nest" and prepare.

Thelovecats · 21/01/2015 14:08

Jackie both my kids have just had chicken pox. It really was fine. I had it as a child so am immune like you. You can have antibody test if you want but honestly I wouldn't worry.

RabidZombie · 21/01/2015 14:33

Hi all, can I be a late joiner to this group?
Discovered I was pregnant in December, quick scan put me at 16+ weeks (bit of a shock!), then went for a proper scan at 18+2 which put me forward to 20 weeks exactly. We already have a DD (5) and DS (almost 3) so we thought we were done!
Still, we're excited now that we've gotten used to this turn of events. And we're expecting DD2 on June the 5th. My sister is also expecting a girl (her first DC) at the end of May so it's going to be a busy summer!

Ok, that was the nutshell version. Smile

ellstor · 21/01/2015 14:41

Hi ladies, may I join this group (currently in May as well) due dc1 attend of May but I'm sure I'll be late and will be early June. X

bubalou · 21/01/2015 14:58

Hi all.

So..... Where to start. 3 long hours of tests and ultrasounds etc. I will just give you the basics as its all quite fresh and not real.

Little baby Bubalou has TGA. Transposition of the great arteries which in layman's terms means 2 of the 'pumps / tubes' in his heart are the wrong way round.

This doesn't effect him for now as he gets oxygen from me but it will when he is born. I will not be having a simple labour at local midwife unit - he will need to be born at Chelsea & Westminster hosp - possibly induced at around 38 weeks and then transported to the royal Brompton nearby. He will need medication to keep his oxygen circulating whilst he stabilises over the first few days. When he is about 4/5 days old - depending completely on him and how he's doing - he will have open heart surgery to 'switch' the arteries.

That's about all I can say for now. Me and DH are still a little freaked out and as harsh as it may sound but very 'why is' it's so surreal!

But they are amazing at the hospital and there is a whole team of people that will be looking after us and him over the next 6-12 months etc.

Really happy to see more great scan news from you ladies.Smile

Thelovecats · 21/01/2015 15:03

Wow bubalou, a lot to take in for you. Thank goodness for 20 week scans though, because now your little boy can be born at the best place and looked after accordingly. Have they pointed you in the direction of any support groups/other parents who have been through this too? Big un-mumsnetty hugs to you...
