I like that there is some choice though. For example the Stokke Xplory is quite high up and I prefer that for my back as bending too much can aggravate muscle spasms. Others may prefer a light pram like the Bugaboo Bee if they have lots of stairs to climb or might like an easy to fold pram like the City Mini if there are no buses with easy access etc. A car seat really serves one main purpose (not including colour choice, fixing choices, price etc.) Asking "What do I need my pram to do?" but help narrow down the long lists!! Grin

leanne963 · 04/01/2015 21:19

Ok ill try and find a store nearby that sells the few that I am contemplating :)

BeanCalledPickle · 04/01/2015 21:29

I think john lewis are very good at listening to your needs and recommending a pram that suits. I would also learn from my mistake and think about future proofing if you plan additional DCs!

If thinking about cots etc may I heartily recommend the baby bay. It's expensive but amazing. Co sleeper that bolts to your bed. Everyone I know who used one had a great experience. It is sooooo much better than a Moses basket, and I know plenty of people who switched to one in desperation.

Titsalinabumsquash · 04/01/2015 21:32

I looked and looked at reviews of pushchairs and the like before hitting the shops to try the ones I'd narrowed it down too.

I made lists (Blush I'm a list-a-holic!)

What was essential to us (ours was for it to be able to convert from a single a double)

Then what was desirable but not essential (one handed folding, size etc)

Then there was an "if money was no option we'd have" list.

So using reviews and word of mouth I made those 3 lists, then we decided on a budget for everything over all (cot, pushchair, car seat) And then worked out budgets for thing individually, MIL kindly has offered to buy the cot, FIL gave us a voucher for Amazon which we'll use to get the car seat which left us with our pushchair budget for everything we wanted, including any accessories.

Then I cross matched that budget to our 3 lists, struck off any thoughts of anything more expensive and was left with a couple of options.
Then we went into town, looked in all the bog baby stores, mothercare, babies r'us and John Lewis, when we saw the Phil and Teds sat there on display I noticed it was priced as just the single unit but stated it came with the double kit and carry cot, I asked the sales assistant who said that it was wrong but her manger said if we bought it today they'd honour the price advertised for the lot, it was out of stock but they kindly agreed to keep it at that price and deliver it when it comes in stock next week to our local store. Smile
I had a push of it and played about with the various options of seat positions and it seems like everything we wanted within the budget we had set so I'm quite happy with it.

Now we need a car seat for £100 or under, I'm hoping to find a maxicosi but I've not looked.
I've swapped a lot of DS3's more boyish baby clothes for girls baby clothes and we still have the swinging chair from when he was a baby that I'll get out and use.

I'm a list-a-holic too!

DH was set on only having one child up until a couple of months before I got pregnant this time so there's no way we would have thought we'd need a double back then! I don't regret getting the strawberry as it was my favourite by far (there's a new one just out now, I don't like it as much) and it has been worth every penny. We bought ours from John Lewis and will buy the new one from there too as they normally have good customer services just in case anything does go wrong (touch wood it hasn't so far).

Morning ladies, thanks for all the pram tips, it's like a minefield knowing where to start. We're off to look next weekend.

Quick question is anyone suffering from dizziness? I have woke up this morning and nearly crashed into the wall and it doesn't seem to be letting up at the mo. I've read it's very common but this feels like some sort of vertigo. Anyone else suffered with this? X

shinyhappyone · 05/01/2015 08:37

Ooh thanks for the tip Bean. They look very good (if a little expensive!) so will definitely explore that option.
Sunshine, I haven't suffered it myself but read something about it yesterday and it seems quite common with the change in blood flow in pregnancy. Hope you don't damage yourself or any walls! xx

Turquoisetamborine · 05/01/2015 10:20

I've got a bugaboo chameleon 3 because I hated my pram last time (a loola) and wanted to have a good quality one this time. We had a windfall recently so I wasn't bothered about the cost, I'll stick it on eBay afterwards.

Sunshine, I would go and see about dizziness, doesn't sound good and it could be blood pressure.

Sunshinesaz86 · 05/01/2015 10:27

thanks Shiny and Turquoise* only other problem is i am inbetween midwives at the moment as i have changed doctors due to house move last yr which means different midwife team so going to try and phone the new one today to chase as i have no set 25 week check up yet either, and see what they advise.

I have read its common, but this is really awful feels like im on a boat and it could be anemia or blood pressure so hopefully get checked out in the next few days, i just hope its nothing serious and also that it buggers off as quickly as it arrived!

Mslad · 05/01/2015 11:32

Sunshine I have had some light dizziness, but nothing like your experience- it sounds awful. do you sleep on your back? My mw told me that sleeping on your back can cause serious dizziness and possible fainting. But not sure if that is only when you get up.

Question for KittyVonCatsington Kitty- I think you are the constipation guru? Grin If so, (and of course sorry if I'm remembering incorrectly, and it's not you!) can you offer any advice on what I can take? I seem to be eating only bran these days for breakfast and now having extra before bed, I'm putting linseed on everything on my mw's advice, and am drinking prune juice daily, but it's not really helping, and some bathroom visits are becoming such a ordeal that I'm beginning to think that labour couldn't me much more difficult! Hmm Sorry if this is tmi for everyone else, but any advice is welcome.

Scottishgal78 · 05/01/2015 11:40

Sunshine-deffo see your midwife or Dr. Although I'm sure the sleeping on your back thing has merit. I sometimes wake on my back and wake up with the worst headache. I'm sure it's that. This morning I woke up on my back and blew my nose and hanky was full of blood! Read up and it seems common. All to do with blood vessels. Maternity pillow is getting delivered today so that should help!

Chookford · 05/01/2015 12:43

sun hope your dizziness eases off soon, its really unpleasant! I agree that it sounds like it could be blood pressure though, hope your midwife can offer you some reassurance.

Mslad I have it too, I dread having to go at times but I use Lactulose and it does help I am using it daily now and it is definitely improving you can also use Fybogel too if you haven't already tried it?!

aberjen · 05/01/2015 13:18

Quick check-in, hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year.

sunshine dizziness could be a blood pressure thing, or possibly a virus - I had a bit of dizziness last time (although not as bad as it sounds yours is) and it coincided with having a cold, so Dr said it could be down to that. Was also advised to drink more fluids. Re: lying on your back, I think that only causes issues while you are actually on your back, not once up and about - something to do with weight of baby, placenta etc pressing down on a particular vein/artery when you're in that position? Hence why it's recommended to sleep on your side.

Loving and being freaked out by the pram chat in equal measure! Have been burying my head in the sand a bit, but do need to start looking properly into doubles. DD1 will be just on 2 years when DD2 arrives. Really don't want to spend too much though esp. as not sure how much use we'd get out of it - DD1 will still be in nursery for much of my mat leave (we won't be able to get her back in if we take her out, and I figure it'll be easier to get to grips with DD2 if I'm not running around after DD1 all day too, at least in the early days), so unlikely to need a double much during the week. Weekends might be a different matter. Decisions decisions!

Threesoundslikealot · 05/01/2015 13:43

MsLad, I'm sure this is basic advice but are you drinking lots of water and doing plenty of walking? Both of those help keep my fairly chronic constipation under control. Otherwise, do go and get a prescription for lactulose. It can really make a difference.

Scan this morning. All well, and looks like being another tall baby (my 3 year old is very tall!). We are still resolutely Team Yellow though. Now a six week wait for midwife appointment no. 2. I quite like this minimal approach.

Chookford · 05/01/2015 13:56

Congrats on the good scan news three

Sunshinesaz86 · 05/01/2015 14:08

Thanks mslad scottish chook and aberjen have left a message for the new midwife team but been waiting a call back for a while now tho. i sleep mostly on my left side anyhow however last night was tossing an turning and did spend sometime on my back, but even so what i felt this morning was so disorientating and still not 100% if i put my head down now, back in work today to so its not ideal when not feeling 100% but anyway sure they will phone me back soon.

sorry to those suffering the dreaded constipation, ive had it on an off but nothing too severe!

enjoy your pillow scottish i like mine but sometimes get a little hot when hugging it!

congrats on a great scan three

LP20140 · 05/01/2015 17:59

Hi, we think we're going to go for the silver cross pioneer. Does anyone have experience of this? Xx

KittyVonCatsington · 05/01/2015 18:28

Mslad-I don't think lack of fibre is your problem hence it is doing very little-if your constipation is due to hormones and Baby taking what you need, then a stool softener like Lactulose would give you some relief (and yes, I am the constipation guru although I would quite happily tell it to bugger off right now-it's been nearly 6 months of pain!)

I've also been getting dizzy spells (often if I have not eaten in a few hours and my BP is on the lower side at 100/60) so now I carry Satsumas everywhere with me for the juice and sugar boost.

leanne963 · 05/01/2015 18:43

If I stand up too fast I get dizzy, or first thing in the morning!

After that pizza Saturday night and the two really strenuous bowel movements yesterday I woke up this morning with a tiny amount of spotting. Literally a drop of rust coloured watery at best, but it has made me realise I need to be more careful about what I eat. My body does not agree with gluten....shame as I love bread and pizza Sad

applecore0317 · 05/01/2015 18:50

Mslad- I've always suffered with constipation, drinking luke warm water is good as your body absorbs it better than cold water and the more your body absorbs the softer the stools will be (sorry) also figs are good, I have two or three a night and they help. Lactoluse hates me and just gives me wind Blush same with prunes... they work on others though

bradders85 · 05/01/2015 19:55

Kitty my blood pressure is the same as yours - at the lower end of normal range (was 50/100 last time) and I have the odd dizzy spell too but it seems to stay with me all day - like my head isn't attached to my body if that makes sense!
LP I have no experience of the pioneer but thats the one I want too - been to the shop to see it twice and it feels great and looks good too.

LP20140 · 05/01/2015 20:42

Good to know bradders, thanks

Hope you all feel better soon xx

plinkyplonks · 05/01/2015 23:02

Pram wise - I've bought a Bugaboo Bee 3. I wanted a chameleon but it won't fit in my boot :( Just folded away all the baby clothes I bought in the sales - seriously do not need any more.

16 weeks to go!

mumxof3x · 06/01/2015 08:03

Morning all :)

Congrats on your good scan three. I also had mine yesterday, all was well, femur length slightly under 50th centile (but all my boys had little legs) and a larger head and abdo lol.

I have a lower bp too 100/50 at my last check, I get quite bad dizziness, eyes go black and what not. But ive been same in all 4 of my pregnancy's, so defo get it checked out sunshine, it does sound like bp i would say, I am no health expert though.

No idea what pram I am getting yet, although I know it needs to be a double that can go into a single eventually.

applecore0317 · 06/01/2015 09:30

Congrats on the good scans :)

I have mine at 12.20, do they take a while? guessing it depends on the baby and her movements lol
