Glad all these scans are going well!

leanne, breast milk contains clever hormones which promote sleep for the baby so it's a bit of a myth that formula makes babies sleep longer. Feeding at night also helps maintain your supply. On the other hand, letting your partner do a few night feeds with either formula or expressed milk can be a lifesaver if you get very sleep deprived. You'll probably know better what you want to do when the baby arrives.

Chookford · 21/01/2015 22:22

turquoise and apple hooray for good scan results! Smile

piglet81 · 21/01/2015 22:48

Kitty, the Essentials course is a bit shorter (and cheaper!) than the Signature one but seems to cover most of the key stuff and was more convenient for us. Should still be a good way to meet people and get to grips with the whole 'eek, how do we bring up this baby?' thing! Smile

I meant to ask, has anyone's navel popped out? Mine is stretching flatter and flatter (I'm a bit unnerved by how fast my bump is growing at the mo!) so I think it might be about to go. Am strangely squeamish about the idea!

longestlurkerever · 21/01/2015 23:06

No, sorry, I meant this is my second pregnancy and it's a girl like my first but feels quite different. Maybe the leg hair thing fits though. Had never heard that before!

gingerfluffball · 22/01/2015 05:53

Thanks for all the welcomes, this thread is lovely!

Had a routine midwife appt this morning and baby kept kicking the doppler when midwife was trying to count his heartrate, we all ended up in giggles. Kicks are loud!

leanne No itchy nips here thank goodness, just endless heartburn, argh.

turquoise glad to hear a recommendation for Lansinoh, had heard it was good and was going to stockpile it in readiness. Also, good to find someone else who has an unusually shaped uterus, I was found to have a subseptate uterus on my dating scan. Was worried to death but everything has been fine and it was reassuring to get a normal cervical length. Have to have one more scan at 32 weeks and consultant check over but I'm just excited to see baby again to be honest Grin

kitty I'm in Perth! Anyone else in western Australia would love to hear from you.

gingerfluffball · 22/01/2015 06:08

Also piglet my belly button went flat and then popped out properly last week. I don't know why but it makes me squeamish too, I even tried taping it down with hospital tape the other day but the urge for it to be an outie is strong and it stayed out regardless! Guess I'll just have to get used to it poking out through my clothes Blush

KittyVonCatsington · 22/01/2015 06:43

Never been to Perth ginger but am very jealous of the summer weather you are experiencing, Hee Hee! Glad MW appointment went well.

piglet - my belly button has been "flush" with my tummy for a few months now and I swear it has just started to push out. Really unnerves me as just looks so wierd! Especially when Kitlet is moving about and my belly button dips up and down Grin

Fluffeh · 22/01/2015 07:02

Speaking of belly buttons mines a massive inny and never came anywhere near flat or out last time so I'm not expecting it to this time.
I was pretty convinced I was having a girl but I wasn't craving anything so maybe that should have told me? His hr was over 150 and still is but it does sound like a train when he isn't kicking the Doppler and running away haha.
Lansinoh is wonderful stuff but I was so sore last time I had to send dp out for nipple shields too. They were a life saver as without them I just couldn't bear to let dd anywhere near my bleeding cracked nipples.
Although we still bf a couple of times a day now and she's 21 months so it didn't stop me :).
We've decided against a double buggy as dd will not get in one without a huge screaming tantrum that lasts until she can get out. We'll just get a buggy board and probably a toddler Tula just for long day trips/holidays etc.

piglet81 · 22/01/2015 07:25

Haha, glad I'm not the only one with belly button issues! Grin

Sorry for those suffering with heartburn etc - sounds grim. And thanks for the tip re Lansinoh. Will definitely have to get some of that as am hoping to breastfeed.

Happy Thursday everyone Smile

aberjen · 22/01/2015 08:45

Morning all!

Another here agreeing that Lansinoh is an absolute life-saver! Amazing stuff. Also, if you get bf established and then it starts to hurt again, and your nipples start cracking and bleeding with shooting pains don't assume it's because you're using your breast pump wrong, only to discover weeks later that is was thrush and could have been cleared up really quickly and easily much much sooner voice of bitter experience

Belly button is still resolutely inny, the benefits of a protective layer of flab I suppose Wink But it just went flat last time. My colleague's used to pop in and out throughout the day!

Justyouwaitandsee · 22/01/2015 08:46

Hey everyone, am going to try and catch up but not sure I am as good as everyone else about who said what, soooo....

Yes to heartburn. I had a really stressful, hectic start to the week and had a constant burning in my throat. Had a more relaxed day yesterday and an early finish and no pain so going to try and not push myself too hard. Really difficult though. Haven't used gaviscon yet.

I am now 26wks but kept forgetting to bring my form into work. Although I collexted it about a week ago - I just called the surgery and they arranged the midwife to fill one out the same day.

I am still having leaky nipples, so using reusable pads and a sleep bra at night (thanks to whoever recommended this, it is sooo comfy!)

My bellybutton is still quite deep and hasn't popped out despite now being quite big. I also haven't got any stretchmarks as yet. Religiously applying cream and my skin does feel much more moisturised and supple but midwife led class said it wouldn't make much difference other than for comfort. Has anyone else seen stretchmarks appearing yet? My weight has gone down a bit over the past week as DH is trying to get healthy for baby's arrival and so I am trying to be supportive alongside.

In terms of baby kit, I haven't bought anything more since the buggy but trying to get the best car seat deal next (we want the people and 2way fix base so not many offers around). Very interested in reusable nappies so interested in any recommendations. Think there are a few threads on this. DH is a bit hesitant though.

Still focused on house renovations so that is taking up a lot of time - next job is to choose tiles for the bathroom.

aberjen · 22/01/2015 08:49

Fluffeh we're also not getting a double buggy, or at least not yet - we'd rather see if we really need one first, and will try to get by with buggy board for DD. I also want to give baby-wearing a proper go this time, as hope that will help leave my hands free to deal with DD - she's brilliant at the moment (20 months), so engaging, but also a right little monkey, definitely keeping us on our toes! Hadn't heard of the Tula, so have just googled it - looks really interesting, so thanks for mentioning it!

Threesoundslikealot · 22/01/2015 09:01

We never had a double buggy and it wasn't a problem. You'll be fine!

I've never had a single stretchmark from pregnancy - elderly skin is less prone to it. I'm already covered in them from my teen years so that seems fair enough!

applecore0317 · 22/01/2015 09:06

I heard that Stretch marks were in your genetics, and no amount of cream will stop them if you are pre determined to have them, think I am screwed then as my Mum said she had loads lol

My Belly Button is looking like it might pop out in the next couple of weeks which is something I am not looking forward to... also squeamish!

I've never really looked into the boy girl old wives tales, DH was convinced it would be a boy, but I felt deep down a girl and that's what we are having :)

Threesoundslikealot · 22/01/2015 09:19

I've had two pretty similar pregnancies with one boy and one girl, so I pay no attention at all to boy/girl stuff. My first baby was born with lots of hair, and the number of medical professionals who said 'oh, you must have had awful heartburn with such a hairy baby' was quite astonishing. I have never had heartburn!

Chookford · 22/01/2015 10:00

I have a flat belly button too! Glad I'm not the only one!

theee I had that too, my dd was born with a full head of black hair and never had heartburn at all!

cuphat · 22/01/2015 10:27

I still have half a tube of Lansinoh from last time. It was great during the first few weeks, but I didn't need it for much longer than that. Not that I had an easy time - I had a horrendous time during the first few months (abscess), but persevered and fed DD till 17 months.

During my last pregnancy my innie stayed very innie. This time it is still innie but sticking up a bit just on one corner. I don't like it!

Both my pregnancies have been the same; last one was a girl and this one is a boy!

I didn't get any stretchmarks last time and so I'm hoping to avoid them again this time. My mum and sister got them during their pregnancies. I have oiled (my own blend) and moisturised every day from early pregnancy; I moisturise my body daily anyway which must help. I know I can be prone to them as I got a few on my hips during my teens.

We're ordering our double (icandy peach blossom 3) this weekend. Excited! We'll start using it with DD straight away when we get it. Well I hope JL can order it as some of the parts we need are out of stock online...

Threesoundslikealot · 22/01/2015 10:31

Like I said, cuphat, our skin changes as we age, and gets more naturally stretchy, so we're less likely to get stretchmarks than very young mothers - teenage skin gets them for anything, as you and I obviously know. I never use moisturiser so my lack of stretchmarks is nothing to do with anything I've done!

cuphat · 22/01/2015 10:34

Overall I think it's a mix of both - every person has different skin anyway. My skin is naturally very dry and gets very itchy during winter if I don't moisturise.

Pushchair is back in stock!

Racheyg · 22/01/2015 12:08

Morning all, hope everyone is feeling ok today?
My belly button is pretty deep so there is no chance of it being pushed out Grin

Had to have another scan yesterday as at my 20 weeks he was curled in a ball. I really didn't think my sonographer was good yesterday, the images seemed really unclear and was unable to measure the skull correctly so has said I need to come back to be scanned by the consultant now I'm nervous. When I read back at my notes she commented on my bmi I mean yes I am over weight but not obese and no other sonographer has problems. I know I still had baby weight to lose from my son but this has made me feel pretty shitty and worried that the baby isn't ok. .............sorry to off load. I talked to my oh but he does understand. Hope everyone is feeling well within themselves xx

Tori, maybe I'm being a little sensitive. She did say there were no concerns which how he is developing and he's the right size ect. I think as soon as you have to have another scan it worries u a little. X

applecore0317 · 22/01/2015 12:32

Sorry Racheyg at least with a consultant they will make more of an effort to get the measurements, when my consultant came in yesterday to check the measurements that the sonographer did with the internal scan he took over, basically told him that he was doing it wrong and then showed him the right way to get the measurements followed by "if you did it the correct way then you wouldn't have need to get my patient to squash her hands by sitting on them to tilt her pelvis"

Gingergeek · 22/01/2015 12:38

rachey sorry you've been made to feel rubbish. I had a rude sonographer at my twenty week scan too. And one at my 12week scan who asked if the horrible mark on my abdomen was a c-section scar. No just awful stretch marks thanks for pointing that out though.
Not nice especially when scans can be stressful due to worrying about what can go wrong.
I got stretch marks with DD from the top of my thighs right up to my breasts. They're awful. No amount of moisturising made any difference. Weirdly I didn't get any new ones with ds. Not that I complained about that!
My belly button is an innie still but it is starting to flatten out across the top part.
Apologies longest like I say trying to keep up is a struggle haha!
Don't really put any weight behind the old wives tales myself either but it's interesting to see how many of them fit after you know the sex for sure :) and my last pregnancies I never had any heartburn and both babies had lovely heads of thick red hair!

Chookford · 22/01/2015 14:01

I was really fortunate that I didn't get any stretch marks last time, I'm hoping this time it's the same, my mum and both sisters never got one with their pregnancy's either so must have some good genes in there somewhere

rachy I'm sure everything is fine with bubba just being a little monkey! Smile
