Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 18th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 35th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread in postnatal clubs here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates! It's a bit quiet at the moment, but with all these upduffed viroids hopefully it won't be for long!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

So, roll call below please, viroids!

Brilliant, thanks viroids!

I did wonder about powder - I've heard it can be bad for them? Does it dry skin too much?

I'm really hoping to breast feed but I know many friends who just haven't been able to. I'll be very disappointed if I can't

Zyla I'm the same - I made hospital choice based on no of pools even tho I'm miles off making that decision

Cym metanium is the one you're thinking of, so right letters!

la what about things like scratch mitts? Changing bag? A box to keep changing stuff in downstairs so you don't have to go up and down like a mad thing. Changing mat for downstairs. umm......

la I'm going to breast feed even if I lose a tit doing it feel free to point and laugh when it all goes um, tits up

zyla well with those extra concerns I imagine it's a bit easier for you in a way, knowing you can't leave her in too long, but also harder because you don't know which to go for, induction or elective CS!

Think they dont let you use powder now because it can get in their lungs. Also read something about it affecting reproductive organs in girls? I'm sure Dr Chat will correct me if i'm wrong on that though.

la i worry what my mum would do to me if i couldn't bf. She swears blind the people who "can't" just don't try hard enough. She bf all 5 of us. My boobs had better work or i'm done for!

Yay new Fred!

Just got back from hospital. Hass avocado sized baby is fine. Doing a bit of a rocky montage, no wonder I ache!! Is also sitting slightly to my left side which explains the twingeing. I am rewarding myself with a packet of purple and orange nick Naks. I've def got a low lying placenta, which will be checked again at 20 weeks. Couldn't see anything else awry, thankfully.

16w mw appt tomorrow, is there anything fancy they do? Will they do anymore blood tests? My arm is mangled from my A&E canula!

Just to buck the trend Zyla, I'd go for a CS. Only because I know how bad I am at being induced. The pessary hurts like hell and it burns when you need to pee. I don't think I got the gel. The drip was crap. But that decision is only with the hindsight of my first experience. If I hadn't already done it I would probably go for induction.

Ok La, will give this proper consideration later but I'm not sure why you'd need a bottle warmer and you would only need sterilising tablets/solution if you were going away somewhere where you couldn't take your steriliser. I don't think sleep aids are a necessity although we did find a mobile helpful. Agree a bouncer chair and baby gym are good ideas. Lansinoh nipple cream is THE most important thing.

Yay tee :)

wil to be honest I'd got in my head to have a CS if I didn't go into labour naturally, think I need a few more stats about intervention rates etc. I'll quiz the doc in a month! :)

RPopz · 18/12/2014 18:01

Same as Wil - you won't need a bottle warmer if you're breast feeding. Don't think you need a lot of toiletries in the early days as they don't need bathing often. They do say just to use water and cotton wool but not sure how practical that is... Sling? Changing mats? Breast pump/ milk storage containers? Hats, scratch mitts, outdoor suit thing (prob less important as s/he'll be a summer bebe... Smile

I don't think being induced stresses the baby per se... its just that the mother is more likely to get stressy because you're robbed of the natural build up, hormones and endorphins etc... so you may end up with more pain relief/ intervention/ emcs anyway. I think vaginal delivery is generally preferred for mother and baby in normal case scenario but with your diabetes issues I guess it depends on how things are at that time. All you can do is make a decision based on the information available to you at the time. Whatever you do it'll be lovely Smile

Hooray tee!

Do you not need warmer to warm up milk that's been expressed? That's why I thought I might need it.

Scratch mitts and hat, yes!
Tummy time rug, bouncer etc yes! Dh wants one of those door bouncer things.

I agree no need for bottle warmer. I went on to bottles with DD when she was 5 days old and I didn't even use one then! I've got baby bath on my list but only because for me it'll be easier to bath baby when DD is in the bath for routines etc

Badedas is also on the list for me. I found it lovely and soothing and my stitches heeled really quickly. It could have been woo but I feel it did help after I had DD.

Definitely scratch mits, maybe a couple of little hats? I've got gro bags on my list for when the baby is big enough, swaddle blankets?

la, I bought quite sparingly the. ordered online where there were needs when we got home. I thought I would change her on the floor or bed but I got a changing table day 2 at home and I bloody love it!

Hope minion is ok xx

Controversial I know but dummies are on my list too. DD had one and only had it on a night/ when sleeping. She had given it up by the time she was 2 and I would rather have a dummy she could give up than a thumb that's a nightmare to get out of the habit of if they're a sucker. I think it's on SIDs guidelines too, or it was when I had DD

If you haven't already got one a dim light for your room so you can see dropped things/ baby without making them think its day time!

la you can warm bottles in some warm water in a jug, or serve at room temp if you want I think! So maybe get a warmer later if you use bottles a lot and want one instead of getting one and maybe not needing it?

la the sheep is called Ewan! We have one but I actually use a sleep app on my phone that plays for as long as I require all night

We have a steam steriliser which is fab!

Tescos scratch mitts are the best so far!

You may want a swaddle blanket or two, especially if the baby is small as they have to be at least 8 lb for sleeping bags.

We used a sleepy head in a chicco next to me crib in the beginning which he slept well in until he decided that he wanted to sleep on his tummy!

lil you can tell your mum that sometimes you can try as hard as you can but with several factors stacked against you breastfeeding can not always be possible :(

lauren dummies weren't on my list but desperation for sleep sent me searching through the hospital bag looking for his preemie dummy the nurses gave us! Went out the next day and bought some! We also have a night light helps me see where he is in the night!

You may want some where to baby during the day, a bouncy chair. You don't really need toys or playmat in the beginning as they do nothing!

Eli is 4 months, cannot believe it!

4 months cookie Shock wow that's gone scarily quick!

lildottie · 18/12/2014 18:41

cookie I totally agree - mothers views are not representative of my own ul be pleased to know!

I was a thumb sucker but mum put a hanky over my thumb and I would only suvk with hanky, then hanky was sent to santa to stop me doing it and I never did after that. dB's had a blanket and wouldn't thumb suck without it so again when blankets taken sucking stopped. I'm not a Dan of dummies, purely from a looks POV, so I plan to try some of my mums techniques initially, but sucking is an important reflex for them so I'd move to dummy's if those didn't work/they weren't a thumb sucker.

zyla I think I'd opt for induction initially for 2 reasons - 1) recovery time with cs 2) I hate the idea of being cut open and feeling them pulling at everything!! obviously if I had to have cs I would be fine about it but given choice I'd try to avoid it. but then I've never been pg and suspect all my views will flip on their head when I actually have to deal with this stuff. like atm there is no way in hell I'd let anyone near my spine with a needle, but when I get there I realise the first words out of my mouth could well be "epidural now"!

Yes to breast feeding not always being possible too! I had to stop with DD when she was only getting my blood instead of milk, and I was crying in pain. If I had carried on I would definitely have got PND and DD would have ended up back in hospital!
