That's a shame Sunbathing. I'm not surprised though. Last time the midwife I saw was a bit pants. Although she did a good sweep!

Not sure I'll have her again, so far I'm having appts at the hospital as there are changes happening at my surgery. The good thing with that is they are often studying midwives who are lovely, really keen and focussed.

During labour in hospital I had a student too and I loved her. She was completing some rotations so just happened to be doing home visits the following week so she came to my house to see me and ds! M

I was so happy to see her and so 'post baby emotional' she gave me a huge hug and I burst into tears!!

cuphat · 02/01/2015 13:50

Jackie, I asked my midwife about getting a section at booking in but she didn't refer me then. When I went for my 12 week scan they automatically gave me a consultant appointment then due to my previous section.

I think it was only so easy for me to get another one due to a number of factors which would increase risk of needing EMCS:

  • previous section was ELCS and so I've never actually been in labour, therefore from what I gather next time would be like a first labour which would increase the risk of rupture.
  • previous section was only 18 months ago.
  • DD was 9lb 10oz with a head size on the 99th percentile! I think this one will be even bigger!
  • my age, as I'll be 35 when I have the baby.

I have seen posters for vbac classes in the hospital so they must try to encourage it for some people.

How lovely, Elizabeth!

Jackiebrambles · 02/01/2015 13:51

I didn't get any info from my midwife last time either, I discovered Mumsnet instead!

cuphat · 02/01/2015 13:54

Sorry you had a bit of a rubbish appointment, sunbathing.

Jackiebrambles · 02/01/2015 13:55

Ah I see Cuphat, thanks. As I've laboured before they are keen for vbac but I'll be 38 at time of delivery myself.

But the last thing I want is to labour again and then have an emcs again as you don't get the benefit of a good sleep the night before so recovery is harder!

It's a hard decision. I'm going to wait til I know what's going on with my placenta at 22 weeks, the decision might be taken out of my hands anyway.

cuphat · 02/01/2015 14:06

That was going to be one of my reasons: that I really don't want an EMCS due to recovery being harder. My mum and sister both ended up with emergency sections and that was with their first babies at young ages so I'm convinced I'd end up needing one.

I'm going to get an extra scan at 36 weeks too (1st May)! The consultant said it's to check if baby is breech etc - he said if you have one breech baby, you have a good chance of having another. He said it won't affect anything as I'm having a section anyway, it's just routine (I assume it's routine if you've had a previous section due to a breech baby).

ots · 02/01/2015 14:23

Thats rubbish about your appointment Sun, but glad you got to hear heartbeat still :) . 12 weeks does seem really long for your first. My next apt will be at 28 weeks too, but in my notes it says 25 weeks if it's your first.

cuphat · 02/01/2015 14:26

I agree, ots, I was thinking that it's normally 25 weeks for your first.

traceybaybee · 02/01/2015 15:03

My appointments are my 20wk scan, then midwife at 22, 28, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40 and 41 weeks as this is my first baby. Im in centralbscotland though so not too sure how it is in other parts of the country and down south

Elizabethnaylor1980 · 02/01/2015 17:24

trying sunbathing I was quite emotional when he told me, he said because I ve been feeling a bit ill with cough, cold etc he thought it would cheer me up. The place is in St Helens too, so on way back we are getting lunch and calling in at Pram World in Preston for a look as well. Really looking forward to it.

I have to see the GP at 25 weeks then the midwife at 28 weeks. They might see me weekly towards the end as my mum had pre eclampsia with both her pregnancies.

I have my second cold in a month! My immune system must be really depressed I never normally get colds! Also have really bad heartburn apparently that means a hairy baby!

traceybaybee · 02/01/2015 19:11

With first babies you get 10 appointments and with subsequent babies you have 7 appointments

impatienceisavirtue · 02/01/2015 19:23

elizabeth is the place in st Helens TAP? They are ok, but a little cold and clinical - they are fine as I said but there are places that are a nicer experience nearby.

Tranquilitybaby · 02/01/2015 19:43

Glad your appt went well cuphat , I had to wait until 36 weeks last time to book a section date in. This time round however, I'll know at the beginning of Feb as I have consultant appt on the 9th. Eek will seem very real then!

That's rubbish sunbathing
How disappointing. I've got mine Tuesday.

Thelovecats · 02/01/2015 19:45

It is worth pointing out though that you should be able to request an extra appt with a midwife at any point if you are concerned or need advice Smile They can (and do) change the schedule if they feel it's necessary too.
Getting a nice midwife makes the world of difference. It's another reason I'm thinking of a home birth because I'm more likely to have met the midwives before as they do all the community appointments.

cuphat · 02/01/2015 20:03

Tranquility, the consultant said that 36 weeks is the earliest they'll book them in at our hospital. I'm happy with that though as I know I can definitely have one; I know when I'm 39 weeks so already more or less know the date. They let me pick the date last time and it'll be the same again.

And what thelovecats said. I made an extra appointment because of my PGP.

sun sorry your midwife wasn't interested, that sucks! Hopefully your next one will be much more engaging!

My midwife is leaving after seeing me again at 25wks am gutted as she is lovely, just hoping the next one is as pleasant!

Kyz · 02/01/2015 20:58

evening all - just poking my head in to see how you all are? hope everyone had a good xmas and new year :)

Bet i've missed tonnes! I need to try harder to keep up, I think!

Next appt for me is 12th Jan for my 20 week scan :) Have felt baby since about 16.5 weeks but definitely much more this last week :)

comeagainforbigfudge · 02/01/2015 21:37

Does anyone have experiences of MIL coming round and quizzing dh about curtains and rails being secure/sturdy enough for toddler?

Mine was round today whilst I was at work. Brought up glass doors being inappropriate for toddlers (the doors were here when bought my place and I like them.) and then also questioned whether we thought curtain rails where sturdy. (My dad put them up and they were solid.)

I feeling annoyed. I'm not evening 20 weeks yet. And a hell of a lot can happen between now and then.

Just thinking that if shits going to happen it's going to happen. That how are kids to learn without testing boundaries.

The glass doors thing I understand. And I probably being unreasonable but really!!! Can they not just be happy and not interfere in the way I decorate my home!!

Zaccheryquack · 02/01/2015 21:41

Eeek - am panicking a bit because I feel like I am feeling the baby move less not more than I was. I am not 18 weeks yet so pretty sure I was still not feeling anything this time in my last pregnancy but just a bit freaked that I seem to be feeling less. Any one else had this? Wondering if the bump has moved a bit and that could be why. Don't want to waste pregnancy with unnecessary worrying....

cuphat · 02/01/2015 21:57

Zacchery, this is the movement guide by count the kicks. www.countthekicks.org.uk/mums/your-babys-movements/babys-movements-week-by-week/

Comeagain, I'd be annoyed. It doesn't look good if she's already questioning things like that. I'd be annoyed whenever she did it, to be honest, as you're the parents.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 02/01/2015 22:19

Zaccheryquack, I was just panicking about this too. I was def expecting to feel the baby earlier this time but when I mentioned it to mw she just said they're all different, you can't expect it to be earlier with subsequent babies. I had two days where I went from nothing to full on whacks, felt very happy... And then two days again if nothing at all so I was really worrying. Tonight I've felt a few bubbles again, more as I would expect to feel at this stage so I feel a bit happier.

Trying to reassure you that I think it's probably normal (and in doing so have merely wittered on about myself...).

Jackiebrambles · 02/01/2015 22:55

What on earth does she think is going to happen with curtain rails?! How tall is the toddler going to get?!

You don't need to baby proof til they start to move around so you've got at least six months after they are born are probably a lot longer!!
