Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
longbottom · 05/01/2015 18:18

I have already had the talk with mum and MIL about not announcing birth until we have told DD who wants to come to the hospital to meet her brother or sister. She wants to find out pink or blue by what it is wearing!! Very excited girl.
This baby doesn't have a nursery, so everything is piled up in my room, need to assemble cot and purchase chest of drawers then I'll be able to organise etc.
sickness has stopped, just feel exhausted now.

Memphisbelly · 05/01/2015 18:36

Longbottom what a lovely idea for your dd! i am hoping to get home before ds can visit but if not then dh will fetch ds straight away to bring him in, I have said even if I ended up with a section I don't want any visitors apart from dh and ds, it is ds's time to bond with the baby. My mum will be at the birth and I am not bothered about others wanting to visit, my mil didnt even visit her own daughter when she had her kids and she was in for 5 days with both of them Shock

sandulacek · 05/01/2015 18:47

That's so sweet long

whyO looks like if everything goes according to the plan I'm trading your date! 16th Feb for us Flowers

trukevoli · 05/01/2015 20:30

Geeky, sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine losing my grandma and the thought of it happening during pregnancy is horrible.

Honey and Littlemiss I am giving birth at Pembury. I am based in E.Sussex. Have either of you looked around the actual birthing part?

I am super jealous of all you ladies on mat leave. I work for my Dad (80 miles from where I live) so will probably never have maternity leave as he will no doubt be calling me in labour asking for updates on clients!

Recently I have become obsessed with organising my freezer and making batches of food to keep me and DP well fed once baby is here. Other then that no real nesting appears to be happening.

Since I got to 33 weeks I have been absolutely shattered is anyone else like this? Seems to have suddenly come on really strong.

Memphisbelly · 05/01/2015 20:53

Truk I work for my mum 40 miles away although I have cut my hours I will be back as soon as I can walk/stand comfortably again. I took ds into work at 3-4 weeks old latpst time but he was a summer baby cannot strap a baby to me in minus 5 Grin

trukevoli · 05/01/2015 20:56

Memphis it is the plan for my parents to move down towards me so my mum can have the baby whilst I work. I couldn't handle the drive every day and I won't be staying at my parents during the week anymore. So I will be working from home for the foreseeable future and taking baby to meetings with clients who don't mind.

PinkyAndTheBump · 05/01/2015 21:40

Hmm. I seem to have been doing my pelvic floor exercises wrong. Just had a coughing fit and leaked a little :/

makes mental note to buy Always Sensitive Bladder

Grrrr

Honeybird · 05/01/2015 21:48

Truk I had my daughter at Pembury. Very nice, no complaints, and private en suite rooms. They are quite up to date with water birth, they now have remote monitoring, and they do delayed cord cutting, things like that.

Having said all that I was on another planet for the first half of my time there and was turfed out asap, so I can't vouch for how it would be for a longer stay.

I'm all for staying in hospital as long as they'll have me, anybody else? Food provided, cleaning sorted, and for non first-timers a break from the other kids?

Memphisbelly · 05/01/2015 22:17

Honeybird I am defo one of those who want to get home, I cannot see what can be relaxing about other peoples. Babies screaming all night, no complete darkness, and food that they tell me to eat rsther than what I fancy....also lack of support, I want dh there for night feeds and helping me. My friend was the opposite she wanted to stay in as she has a 14 month old and enjoyed the few days she stayed in the first time and requested it got her own room thinking she could sleep but alarms still beeped all night and she regretted it.
I am in a different hospital this time and the mw said she prefered this hospital to the other one and didn't want to go home.

Im feeling all sad my ds goes to school tomorrow and all I keep thinking is time is running out before I have to share him with his brother soon

Memphisbelly · 05/01/2015 22:23

I have to say my dh has a friend who (12 years ago) had a baby she was so worried sbout having to look after an actual baby without their guidance she pretended they hadn't got a car seat (plus lots of other excuses) on day 5 (after a strsigh forward labour) they offered her a loan carseat from a mw just to grt her out GrinGrin always makes me laugh thinking of it

blankfornames · 05/01/2015 22:30

Sympathies geeky. She sounded like an amazing woman with some life story behind her!

Can i ask how many of you got the flu jab? Because of my recent pneumonia, the hospital recommended that I get both the pneumonia and flu jab but when I went to book an appointment with my GP today, he said he was reluctant to give it to me seeing as I only have 6 weeks left. Thr flu jab takes 3 weeks to kick in also. Now I don't know what to do. I'm on maternity leave so its not like Im around kids anymore.
What's the general view out there?
Cheers!

JacktheLab · 05/01/2015 22:42

I'll be desperate to get home asap too, I'd recommend taking proper wax ear plugs in your hospital bags guys, the ones which you warm up to soften and then fit into your ears. They were brilliant last time and helped with cutting down a lot of the noise on both the ante natal and post natal wards, do you know how much pregnant women snore ?!?

I was induced last time and was in almost a week, this time I will be at least 48 hours but soon as they let me go I'm off to my own bed, my little boy and my dogs, DH is planning to spend as much time on the ward as possible so I won't get a chance to miss him?,

I got the flu jab, think it made me ill for a week or so, but the nurse said its all good for the baby's immune system, so I just did as was told!

I've had a fairly quiet day, finished up knitting mittens for the babies going home outfit, made soup, cleaned the kitchen sort of. I took the months free trial of Netflix out, watched six episodes of Orange is the new black already

sandulacek · 05/01/2015 22:42

I think quite a few of us had the flu jab. It's true it kicks in in about 2 to 3 weeks but isn't better having it due to your recent pneumonia? Not sure if it does give the immunity to the baby? Sorry for not being much help.

Honeybird · 05/01/2015 22:49

Memphis I totally see where you're coming from, in my case I've had private rooms both times and with constant breastfeeding there isn't much DH can do to help overnight anyway. If I were surrounded by other people's screaming babies or if DH were any use at all I'd probably be out of there like a shot. But now I'm tempted to try your friend's car seat trick...

Blank that's interesting about the flu jab. With absolutely no knowledge or expertise in the area, I personally might be tempted to give it a miss, assuming your GP knows you've just had pneumonia. Frustrating when health professionals can't agree with each other...

Memphisbelly · 05/01/2015 22:56

Blanks I had it in the end as my consultant said due to my health issues if I got flu in pg or in werks after when im run down it will lay me up in hospital.

Honey private rooms are few and far between here which is a reason why my consultant wants me home as soon as im up to it. I will also be bottle feeding and I will be going back on my meds as soon as baby pops so I need rest while they get back in my body

donkir · 06/01/2015 01:04

Ergh, wide awake due to oh snoring his head off. I'm now on sofa. I have ear plugs in too. Must try the wax ones instead.

Had an evening full of bh contractions so can't get comfy anyway.

I stayed in hospital for 5 days due to complications last time. I hated every minute of it so I'm hoping for a smooth ride this time and out the same day.

longbottom · 06/01/2015 03:15

I'm in the wide awake club, I've got tooth ache/head ache. Paracetamol are rubbish :(
Waiting to be able to ring dentist in the morning, hope all the paracetamol aren't hurting pea.

Viperama · 06/01/2015 03:17

Pinky I've wet myself twice with coughing fit. Been doing kegels as well, must do more!

Viperama · 06/01/2015 03:26

waves to fellow wide awake club members

Going to try to sleep, round 2 shortly. Wish me luck

JacktheLab · 06/01/2015 04:56

Hope you're all asleep now, I've been tossing and turning for half an hour, feel ready to get up, but know I'll want to crawl back to bed in a couple of hours, so trying to persuade myself back to sleep. No excuses here, DH works away part of the week, so is just me in the bed!

blankfornames · 06/01/2015 06:29

I'm also in the wide awake club...have been for past couple of hours! Angry
Donkir, I also had an evening of BH yday. i couldn't get comfy at all. This is where the slight sense of being fed up kicks in!
Thanks for jabs advice.

Memphisbelly · 06/01/2015 08:10

Long paracetamol really are fine. I have been on them a lot recently and admit they are useless though.
My headaches are not improving at all, I have mw on thursday so it will be yet another app when I say I have killer headaches

GeekyHybrid · 06/01/2015 08:35

Sorry I missed you all in the wide awake club last night, 2 in 3 nights I'd of been there. I think it's a sign of how much I over did it decorating yesterday that I slept until 8 Confused I was awake several times and bubba has a knack of waking me 10mins before OH's alarm goes off - starting to think it knows what's happening and wants a good morning pat from OH! That I went back to sleep is unusual.
Poo on the toothache long, hope you get it sorted quickly Thanks

GeekyHybrid · 06/01/2015 08:40

Thanks And for the headaches memphis, no fun especially when we can't take the 'good' drugs

BanglesSpangles · 06/01/2015 10:20

morning all- loads of wide awakers last night!

In spite of having to get up every two hours for a walk around, i was asleep for the majority of the night. Has anyone else getting leg pains/numbness as they've got bigger? I've been getting the most awful pain in my legs at night- like the feeling you get before you get pins and needles.. wonder if its anything to worry about?

Blank- I went for the whooping cough jab but didnt get the flu jab in the end- I've never bothered before, and don't have any underlying health problems, so thought I'd avoid it

Long- Hope the toothache is OK- No pain worse, in my opinion- and I've been told by two separate people that tooth abscesses are worse than childbirth! Don't worry about the paracetamol though- apparently taking it within the recommended dosage is fine. In fact I might go and treat myself to one now, because a whole day on this office chair was fricking agony yesterday!
