Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jenmcspen · 05/01/2015 10:59

Sorry to hear ur sad news geeky bet she saw some changes in her 98 years!
Think I have lost the plot. Thought my scan was tomorrow, when actually it is today. Thank god I found the letter!!!

PeppermintInfusion · 05/01/2015 11:07

Jen I am over the place with Xmas- got to work and checked my diary and thought my scan was today, then realised I was looking at friday. Also had to sit and work out how many weeks I am. I'll be glad to get back into a routine this week!

Honeybird · 05/01/2015 11:18

Sorry you lost your grandma geeky. Where do you live? My mom and grandma are in Kansas, but I'm in Kent now and working in London. Anybody else giving birth at Pembury?

GeekyHybrid · 05/01/2015 11:37

Hi honey - you're a long way from home! I live on the Sussex coast in the UK, my mom is in Yorkshire though she originates from N.Dakota via California! Because of my dad's aversion to anything 'family' I often felt closer to the US family than the English one growing up. It was nice having two places - 6,000 miles apart - that I considered 'home'. Are you settled here honey or are you thinking of going 'home' at some point?

Grinningcat · 05/01/2015 12:08

Sorry to hear your news geeky, but I agree she sounds like a fab lady.

Back to work today and can't get my head into it. I have tomorrow as leave so that is probably why. It's the 10th anniversary of my Mum's death so I am going down to spend the day with Dad until my DBro finishes work.

Had my HV appointment today and she seems nice (for now). It waS just an introduction, but took an HOUR! Also rang the MW about my itchy lower bump and she suggested aqueous cream with a methol crystal (?) stored in the fridge as it is probably just hormones and heat.

BanglesSpangles · 05/01/2015 12:57

heat?!

Just had a chat with my MW about the old home birth situation- she spent a long time telling me the scare stories and the downsides- I know they just have to cover their backs, but I just really wanted a professional person to tell me it's not a shit idea!!

Geeky we're pretty settled here but very similar situation to yours, very little family on my English dad's side and lots of American family I miss. My family moved from the east coast to England when I was 9.

donkir · 05/01/2015 14:25

Geeky sorry to hear about you gm she sounds fab.

Suffering with lack of sleep here too ive got a pain in my rib. Feels like it's digging in whenever I lie down or bend over.

Back to work today which surprisingly has been lovely. Worked out I only have 13 working days left until ml starts. Eek!

Grinningcat · 05/01/2015 14:49

I only have 15 days after today, plus a funeral Sad so maybe only 14.

longbottom · 05/01/2015 15:07

I'm jealous of you ladies, I don't go on maternity leave until 11th feb! It will keep me busy though I suppose!
I have midwife tomorrow for 32 week appointment, even though I'll be 33 weeks the day after! I'm hoping to see bump has grown as I think it has stopped, doesn't seem any bigger for weeks now.

GeekyHybrid · 05/01/2015 15:09

I've completely knackered myself trying to get more wallpaper / paint off the future nursery walls. Googling various 'tools', the artex remover from beaver tool hire looks promising. I was just dropping off for a nap but my sister rang. And now OH is home. May get moving before rush hour traffic builds, maybe!

Minichuch · 05/01/2015 15:32

I haven't fix a date with work to start ml - they are pretty flexible and have said will play it as I feel - I can also work from home - worse case is i have 34 working days left - that gives me a week before due date but know that junior is going to be late - she says hopefully

GeekyHybrid · 05/01/2015 15:49

Now stood with my hand under the cold tap for 10 minutes as I decided to get hot gun out to strip skirting/doorframe. Sad Angry Blush One of those days me thinks!

Memphisbelly · 05/01/2015 15:50

I am down to two days at work and am hoping on staying at that until I pop I am already dreading the extra days I will have home alone this week!

I have this incredible appetite this last few days. Today I had 2 bowls of cornflakes, a cheese twist, scampi, chips and peas then finished mums chips and my nieces peas and 45 mins later I walk in home and have a choc bar as I felt so hungry I was giddy! This baby better come quickly or I will be huge!

I love hearing stories of grandparents (especially grandmas as they seem made of such strong stuff) my nan died last year she was amazing. A land army girl through the war a shitty marriage where she had the courage to sneak stuff from house over months then flee after abuse. She was the local schools caretaker, cleaner and cook Shock and then before and after school washed milk bottles and re filled them at the dairy farm they lived in as a dairy hand. She met the love of her life and had 2 kids in her late 40s for him to die. She was my hero. Smile

longbottom · 05/01/2015 15:59

Geeky, step away from the tools!!

I wish I had some heroic story of grandparents, all that seems to run in my family is alcoholism!
Thankfully not with my parents, they broke the mould Smile
I am eating a lot Memphis, feels like defo for two!!

sandulacek · 05/01/2015 15:59

Hi all,

geeky positive thoughts coming your way
Flowers

What a flurry of diy! I feel we're very relaxed about the nursery as she will sleep with us in the moses basket anyway. However the furniture is coming next week.

So I had a busy day...pregnancy massage in the morning which was a bliss! She promised the best sleep ever tonight so fingers crossed! Then onto a scan where all seems to be fine with bump. This led to a discussion about the birth, a confirmed c section and a booked date! Eek!!! It is weird to know the date. The mw was even asking if the date was ok with us!

What are you guys with elcs do...are you telling people your date?

And to top it of we have our first NCT session tonight!

Grinningcat · 05/01/2015 16:09

ooo my DH bought me a pregnancy massage as a xmas present. I am so looking forward to it. I don't actually start ML until the 9th, but I have 8 days of leave and a flexi day to take beforehand so my last day should be the 30th Jan. I am planning my massage to take place the first possible day after that!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 05/01/2015 16:21

Geeky I'm sorry for your loss.

Theres lots of diy going on - I confess we had a decorator in to sort ours (courtesy of my wonderful DM). Rearranging the rooms has been hard enough with this damn PGP - had to rely on DH and DM.

Sand We'll tell my family and DH's work the c section date. But not anyone else - i dont want people hastling us for news if it gets delayed for any reason, so no friends will know and we can't have it getting back to MIL (estranged from us), as she would, guaranteed, find a way to cause trouble, so we felt it was unfair to tell any of DH's family but then expect them to keep quiet (none of them even know my due date is 16th - they were just told end of feb).

I get my date for c section tomorrow and it already feels weird I'll know the birth date before hand. Its very strange. I keep telling myself its good because I can plan things better for, DHs work, mom getting time off for looking after DS and staying here for 2 weeks when DH goes back to work, we know we'll be able to make it to BILs wedding, etc but it still feels weird and I imagine will feel even more strange tomorrow.

Bangonthedoor · 05/01/2015 16:25

Ah another person with a date! How exciting sand Grin

Ouch geeky hope you're ok.

I love hearing stories from older people too. It really makes me take a step back and realise how lucky I am and how little I actually do in my life! Blush

So no swimming this afternoon in the end...didn't even attempt the swimming costume. We've been pretty lazy so will have to make up for it another day. I've promised DD swimming before baby comes...

sandulacek · 05/01/2015 16:28

I stopped my DH telling his mum (for now until I work out who I want to know) as I know there would have been a hotline to all the aunties and uncles straight away...am I too mean?

freneticfox · 05/01/2015 16:32

Sorry to hear your sad news geeky :(

long - hope you're feeling better soon, nothing worse than a sickness bug!

I still have a vile cold/virus type thing. The chest-pain causing cough has calmed right down at least, but my god. So. Much. Snot. Sorry for TMI there, I just swear I've NEVER had such a 'drippy' cold. Long as it buggers off before I go into labour I'll be happy. Officially on maternity leave now, which is genuinely brilliant. Of course I can't sit and do nothing so I've decided to build a website for some friends that are wanting to set up an online magazine. Yep, web geek here.

Hope everyone else is ticking along ok - does anyone else feel a wee bit plagued by guilt from Xmas over indulgence? Usually I just shake it off by going out for a walk and re-starting my running regime but not an option this time with a huge bump and SPD!

GeekyHybrid · 05/01/2015 16:34

I'm safely back on the sofaGrin No more DIY today. Only trying to get it done so that there's somewhere to put baby stuff! At the moment it's all piled up on the spare bedHmm The one my mom will want to sleep onConfused
memphis your grandma sounds brill too. I think in that generation there were a lot of challenges that produced some seriously strong women. Let's be thankful that for us and future generations of women some aspects have got better. My grandma caused a scandal by not marrying the preacher from a nearby town that her church chose for her. Was the talk of small town Dakota for years! Thanks to women like them we have so many choices.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 05/01/2015 16:34

I don't think its too mean sand , after all if it was natural labour you're hardly going to tell everyone as soon as you go into labour, the vast majority of people wait until baby is born and they've had a little bit of bonding time first, then announce. So I don't see why it can't be the same for c section.

LittleMissSunshine33 · 05/01/2015 16:36

Geeky sorry for your lossThanks

Honey I may be going to Pembury depends on if I can get in at the birth centre, going for an assessment tomorrow!

Back at work today and staff development day so no children and still knackered!! Don't think sleeping is helping just can't get comfortable and keep waking myself up! Guess it's getting me used to things to come Smile

Memphisbelly · 05/01/2015 16:43

Sand if I knew the date I would tell those who need to know (and you ladies) I will be doing the same when I go into labour my sis is doing childcare and mum will be at birth, my sis is a blabber mouth so she is sworn to secrecy with the threat of she wont be trusted to have ds again.
