bangles perfect prep can use any type of bottles.

Steriliser wise if your looking at microwave/steam then it does matter what bottles you use - they only fit certain types. But if you are looking at cold water sterilising then it doesn't matter.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 30/12/2014 21:17

Sorry cross post with Memphis. I know the Tommee tippee bottles didn't fit the advent steriliser a couple of years ago (but advent would fit in TT, although it TT could only take 4bottles to advents 6) but don't know if it would be different now advent have their natural range of bottles.

Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 21:30

Ah whyO Thankyou for clearing that up I have a TT steam steriliser and know dr brown and avent fit it, didn't actually think about the other way round (or other sterilsers other than steam as my micro never fit a steriliser in)

Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 21:32

I know mothercare used to do a bottle than you tipped up and it was a micro steriliser for individual bottles if you didn't want to invest in the whole set up if you plan on bf, such a mine field that you seem to forget!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 30/12/2014 21:48

Memphis you saying that has reminded me that was another advantage I was told about with Mam bottles, particularly if planning to bf - you can take the bottles apart and rebuild them in a funny way to turn each bottle into its own steriliser!

I think if I was able to go back, know i planned to bf, I would have had a couple of mam bottles in stock and no steriliser (I had Mam dummies that came in a little microwave steriliser box of their own, so didn't need it for other things)

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 30/12/2014 21:50

*knowing not know

sandulacek · 30/12/2014 22:02

Omg, this bottle business is so confusing... I'm planning to bf but who knows how that works out. What to buy?

Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 22:10

I also bought a one bottle micro steriliser to keep at mums house it cost around a tenner.
WhyO yes MAM bottles do become a steriliser too and our TK Maxx always seem to have them in too

longbottom · 30/12/2014 22:16

I've gone for mam bottles, anti colic self sterilising in the microwave.
I've also bought the mam microwave steriliser so I can do 6 at a time.
A friend has been using them and could not find any fault with them. I also loved that the set I bought was green!!

Honeybird · 30/12/2014 22:21

I know sand, the bottle thing is really confusing and I'm not going to be much help... With my first we just got lucky, breastfeeding worked fine apart from some very sore nipples at first, and when we started using bottles at 5 months or so he took to them straight away and basically weaned himself off the breast after a couple more months. I think he liked the milk to come out as fast as possible. We happened to have chosen avent but I'm guessing he would have taken to any brand.

With my second I was all confident and blasé, totally full of my feeding prowess... Breastfeeding worked fine again, but maybe too well. At 5 months I had to go back to work and she would NOT take a bottle. There is a lot of advice out there about moving from breast to bottle and I think we tried all of it. We have about 5 brands of bottles in our cupboards.

In the end she started accepting milk from the Mam bottles, but TBH I think she had finally decided to just give in rather than Mam being the magic solution.

I know, it seems like there are so few days left before baby! Mentally I think I am as prepared as I will ever be - my mw has been great and we are going for a 'hope for the best while preparing for the worst' strategy with the induction being an early one.
Am doing some serious nesting getting the house and baby things sorted. Nice to be busy since I finished work early, def haven't had chance to get bored yet!
Bought second hand nursing chair which arrived today - possibly my new favourite thing Grin sooo comfy!
And on the bottle front, I haven't got any yet! Shock Naively hoping that initially bf will be successful and if not we'll sort something out at the time. Do plan to express eventually but was going to ask local bf support group for pump/bottle advice at the time. Sooo many things to decide on!

BanglesSpangles · 31/12/2014 08:20

Thanks guys- loads of helpful stuff to go through. If i can persuade DH to take a break from plastering, we may get over to mothercare for some more research!

My doulas swear by medula calma test for bottles used in conjunction with bf. Baby has to suck in the same way so less risk of them getting lazy and going off boob

Viperama · 31/12/2014 11:26

Teat not test

donkir · 31/12/2014 15:15

Hope everyone is having a nice New Year's Eve?
I've been and picked up some Arnica 30c from Holland and Barret. She said start taking it at 38 weeks. I've looked at a few threads on here about it and they've not been much help. What would you recommend Memphis? I'd not heard of it before.

Memphisbelly · 31/12/2014 16:44

I started a couple of weeks ago. It won't hurt to take it long term.

LittleMissSunshine33 · 31/12/2014 17:50

The lady in Holland & Barretts said it's often recommended by Drs for patients who are having an operation to help their healing time after the op. She said they are recommended to take it a week before the op but not knowing when we will be needing it I thought I'd start at 37 weeks?! Hope that's of some info Smile

Memphisbelly · 31/12/2014 18:11

I know people who bruise easily who take it long term. It was amazing for me visable bruising (black and blue) to my knees and no pain with it and bruises gone in days

donkir · 31/12/2014 18:28

Thank you ladies. What amount are you taking a day?

freneticfox · 31/12/2014 18:30

Hope everyone has a nice evening whatever their plans are! We have friends over, and until this morning I was feeling great - little one was positioned down... He's now shifted upwards so I have uber heartburn and squished lungs.. Little party pooper!

Happy New Year ladies, we're almost there! X

thingsarelookingup · 31/12/2014 19:32

Happy new years everyone. I think I will also have to get some arnica. I'm pretty sure my sister took it before her elcs and she said it really helped speed up the healing. Thanks for the reminder!

Wow Jen that is so soon. I'm so excited that people will start having their babies next month (this month in a couple of hours!).

thingsarelookingup · 31/12/2014 19:36

Oh and frenetic I think I've had the opposite happen today. Baby has been wriggling around a lot today and really burrowing downwards and now I feel quite heavy down below. I don't remember this ever happening last time and wonder if that is one of the reasons my labour progressed so slowly. As a second timer i believe at this point she is likely to pop back up at any time like yours has so not counting any chickens yet.

Memphisbelly · 31/12/2014 19:46

After tonight we will be in 2015 and on the final slog ladies.

This baby keeps popping in and out (apparently it is common in second pregnancies?) he wiggles in pops out then pops back in an grinds it is very uncomfy.
Everyone keeps saying how I won't go full term, docs said it from early on last time and I went full term, I now have all the baby clothes back here washed and fluffy so I am good to go.....whats the betting I go 2 weeks over Grin

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 31/12/2014 20:28

Hospital bag is pretty much packed - at last! I'm actually quite proud of myself its all very organised with labeled zip lock bags, to make it easy for DH to find stuff whilst I'm immobile after c section. I've put together the little zip lock bag for theater with bodysuit, sleepsuit and wooly hat, mitts & cardigan (as per midwifes instructions - can't believe theatre is that cold!!!).

Can't believe how close these births are sounding when its said in days. Mines in 40 or so days, which somehow sounds better to me than 5.5weeks (get actual date at my appointment on 6th - which I'm still finding weird, although its also comforting to know I can't go over with the level of pain I'm in this time).

Baby is still lying diagonally with her head dug into right hip and her legs under left ribs - seriously unhelpful with PGP.

Bangonthedoor · 31/12/2014 21:44

Happy NYE everyone! I'm off to bed very shortly...not before I've made the sofa up for DP - he's getting very merry at the pub!

I was planning on sorting my steriliser and bottles out this evening but I've eaten too many Doritos and now I've got awful acid Confused

2015 here we come!
