Minichuch · 30/12/2014 07:25

Been wide awake since 3am, mw appointment at 8am and all I want to do is stay in bed and sleep - hope everyone else has had a better night

LittleMissSunshine33 · 30/12/2014 09:39

Thanks Viper I will give it a try!

Happy Birthday things and donkir

Two days left of 2014! It's so nice not making a New Years resolution to diet!

Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 09:52

Littlemiss my new years resolution will be to learn to download music....something I have always got my friend to do for me! It got to the point my dad can download and I can't so time to rectify it!

GeekyHybrid · 30/12/2014 09:54

Happy birthday things and donkir - hope you both have great days Thanks

mini -I was awake from 3 am too. Difference is this time I didn't have to worry about going to work Grin So I left OH to his zz's and went downstairs to read until 6 ish when I managed to finally sleep. God bless being on holiday. Hope your mw appointment goes well.

BanglesSpangles · 30/12/2014 10:28

Morning team fantastic. Buggy is coming today, OH is going to attempt to plaster the ceiling in the baby's room and i might, just might sand down the door frame in the bathroom (flexibility permitting)

Have been baffling myself with bottles this morning- there are so many brands... Who knew! Any recommendations, oh wise ones?

donkir · 30/12/2014 10:39

I've been well and truly spoilt today. Off for a soak in the bath then the panto this afternoon.

I've picked tommie tippie bottles. I used Avent with ds and although he took to them well they tended to leak quite a bit. Also I found working in nurseries I got to see all different bottles in action and found tommie tippie to be better if your planning on bf and ff.

JacktheLab · 30/12/2014 10:47

I used Tommy tippee last time because I wasn't planning to need bottles so was in a bit of a panic to get anything and those were in the supermarket - obviously no forward planning or research here!

I have four resolutions for next year,

Get baby out
Lose weight
Not buy more crafting stuff, use up what I have (which is a shameful amount)
Don't go mad being at home all year

Fairly achievable I hope!

thingsarelookingup · 30/12/2014 10:48

Thanks all for the birthday wishes. It's just me and ds for most of the day because DH worked last night but we have friends coming around this evening to babysit so I can go out for dinner. Really looking forward to it. I don't see dh enough so it'll be really nice to have an uninterrupted conversation.

jenmcspen · 30/12/2014 11:59

Have been a bit AWOL as things have been crazy busy here - looks like I have loads to catch up on! Grin
Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Will be a quiet new year here - exhausted!
Happy birthday to everyone who is/has been celebrating today and over the last few days. Hope you are all being spoiled.
I think unless anyone goes into labour very early, I might have the next thread baby... Due date was 30th Jan but early induction booked for 16th Jan....scarily soon!!!!

freneticfox · 30/12/2014 12:29

Happy birthday things and donkir, have a great day! :D

Just got back from my 34w appointment (am 33+3). Measuring 34w, so not too bad in terms of size. Also, his head is on the edge of my pelvis, not engaged but on the brink. This explains the pressure and weight I've been feeling down there!

BanglesSpangles · 30/12/2014 12:58

Ooh jen that is scarily soon!!

Thanks for the bottle recommendations, ladies- convenient really as i was eyeing up the tommy tippee 'perfect prep' machine this morning and wondering if it was worth the bucks (its on sale in mothercare if anyone's interested)

Just called about a home birth drop in session at my local hosp, only to be told theyve stopped doing it because nobody came! Still, I had a very nice chat with the midwife who would have been doing the sessions, who was super-positive. Theyve got a new home birth lead starting next week and she's going to get her to give me a call for a chat

I've got some tommy tippee bottles, and have also been recommended Dr Browns if your little one suffers from colic!

Bangonthedoor · 30/12/2014 13:42

Happy birthday donkir and things!

Wow jen that's so soon! How are you feeling about it all?

I used tommee tippee with DD and I kept everything so I'll be using it all again. Although the bottle warmer I misplaced so I'll need a new one of those.

My New Years resolution is to work hard as a mum and play hard as me. And of course to get nice and slim but that one comes out every year Wink

Bangonthedoor · 30/12/2014 13:48

Oh and memphis I've been meaning to ask you, where's the best place to get arnica from? I checked in Tescos and they only had the cream. Couldn't see it in boots either. Wanted to start taking it soon!

JacktheLab · 30/12/2014 14:07

Well, any doubt that I'm nesting is put to bed, I've spent the day cleaning the living room, putting away xmas things and generally scrubbing. I've done the sofas with baby wipes, cleaned the inside of the windows and polished everything. I also made my husband put all of his dvd's and bluerays into folders and the boxes are waiting to go into the loft. Even I have drawn the line at getting the glass shades off the light fittings and washing them - maybe next week though!

Interesting though I wasnt at all like this with my son, wonder if having a girl is making me more houseproud - all that estrogen.

Jen how exciting, not long to go now!

Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 16:39

Jack well done you! I am having a boy and have been nesting loads this time but didn't this time, ds was a summer baby thoug, zi put it down to this one being a winter one.

Bang I got arnica from Boots, its in the homeopathic those little tubes of I think it is nelsons remedies? The arnica one is purple. They sell the in Holland and Barratts too.

On and bang I agree about me time, I am going to party hard once this baby is out I have 9 months to make up for. I plan on going to a festival, celebrate my birthday (may be belated) and celebrate my friends 30th agIn as when she had her weekend away I was sober for it! Dh doesn't go out very often but I enjoy going out and having a blast so makes the childcare easier, he is an early riser too so tends to take ds out firdt thing if I am hungover Grin

Went to John Lewis today, ds and dh went to the cinema but as my back is hurting I gave it a miss. 2 people said I look worn out and fed up....hmm thanks. i bought the baby a cot mobile. It was £56 in Kiddicare but in sale for £37 but in JL it was £35

Tree and decs are down, going to have a mini snooze and then paint the wall in living room with radiator on so I can get our new radiator cover on.

longbottom · 30/12/2014 17:36

I am too tired to do anything. Have had a friend round this morning with her two boys and have been to the cinema with DD. I hope I can actually sleep tonight, I feel like I'm being tortured!
I've ordered some arnica online from holland and barratt.
It's my birthday on Friday, the big 32 :( I will be having a take away probably, hardly ever celebrate!

BanglesSpangles · 30/12/2014 18:31

Han- my sis said the same- she had avent stuff and ended up switching to dr brown, which just added to my confusion as apparently theyre good for colic, but also good at leaking!

OP posts:
Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 18:46

Bangles Dr Brown are apparentlygreat for colic but also very expensive and fiddly to clean if your baby doesn't suffer colic (my ds did but those bottle didn't do anything more than the Tommee Tippee ones) I binned my dr brown ones after a few days such a faff.

We have gone for Tommee Toppee ones again this time I couldn't fault them (apart from beign delicious to our dog who was a pup at the time and would eat the teats when I left them on the drainer Confused

Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 18:46

My Tommee Tippee ones never leaked either thank goodness. Nothing worse than stinky milk

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 30/12/2014 19:19

Bottle wise I'm going to buck the trend and say Tommee Tippee were awful for DS - he just couldn't suck on them (luckily wed only got one, someone had bought for us) - the teat shape is incredibly unnatural though, a breast is nothing like that shape in a babies mouth.

We'd also got a freebie advent one (now the called the classic), which he took to fine - we stopped the leaking by loosening and reclosing the lid once the feed had cooled - apparently the leaking is to do with the pressure differences created by the hot water mixing with the powder then us cooling it quickly, I didn't fully understand but it worked anyway.

Tbh I wish I'd have thought about bottles and researched them before I needed them but I was bf so stupidly didn't think about it, once DS took the advent bottle DH just bought those from asda. - Mam or NUK are supposed to be best if you want to breastfeed and use a bottle too. I have thought about replacing with Mam for this one but I just can't justify the expense when I've still got all the Advent ones.

Oh and purple a Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine is a machine that makes milk up safely and has it at feeding temperature in 2mins. It uses a "hot shot" of water to kill bacteria in the formula, then tops up with the correct amount of cold water that has been through an antibacterial filter - this safely creates a feed at perfect serving temp, without you having to wait ages for a feed to cool, or make up in advance. - it seems like a fab idea and I managed to get one for less than £50 in Amazon Black Friday sales - figured if bf does go to plan I can sell it brand new on eBay for more than that and if not it will hopefully simplify life considerably whilst not costing much (last time I was really lazy with DS and used premade cartons - expensive!).

Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 19:42

WhyO my friend has the perfect prep machine and didn't with her first she said it is brilliant and saved her sanity in the night but warned me the beep it makes once finished is loud, I planned on keeping mine upstairs at first for night feeds but fear the beep will wake ds.Grin

Grinningcat · 30/12/2014 19:48

We have a few tommee tippee bottles because I got a tt steriliser for £26 on amazon and they came with it. I won't get anymore unless bf doesn't work out. Mind you I really like the idea of the perfect prep machine as well and I'm so tempted to do what you have done why.

We went back for our second shot at a 3d/4d Scan today, but baby was still unco-operative and had his/her hands in front of their face. Was nice still to see baby, but we opted for a 40% refund rather than a 3rd go. Maybe I will spend the money on a perfect prep machine? Smile

BanglesSpangles · 30/12/2014 20:44

Hmm, i might just get one of everything and see what happens! Does the perfect prep machine only fits tt bottles? And what about sterilisers- would you need a different one for each shape of bottle, or does everything go everywhere?

OP posts:
Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 21:07

Bangles the perfect prep machine fits all bottles as its got adjustable bottle height, don't pick too many bottle types though as the teats are all so different it may affect the latch/suck. Sterilisers are made for each brand but they usually fit most types in, I imagine Tommee Tippee and Avent to fit each other as they are bothquite stubby wide bottle types.

Truely had enough tonight, have actually cried I am that uncomfortable, had a total wobble over not managing to cope with this last few weeks and worried I won't get through labour, I am exhausted.
