Han try not to worry - DS was supposed to be massive but was just long and skinny and weighed a mere 7lb2oz

Honeybird · 23/12/2014 15:30

Mine have always measured bang on average in scans and came out at 6 1/2 lbs (39w) and 7lbs (39+4). So a little under average weight but also just a little bit early. So to be fair the weight predictions in my case were pretty good... This time measurements again right on 50th percentile or just a little bit below.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 23/12/2014 16:11

Sorry should have said DS was 8days over due. So prediction was massively out (put him just off the top of charts but his birth weight was only something like 25th centile), so scans were massively out.

Thing is there's quite a high margin of error because they can't measure babies body fat just femur length, head circumference, and stomach circumference (stomach can vary a lot apparently according to when they last had a wee).

Add on to this that charts assume your baby follows a perfect growth curve - they don't, that's just the average - in the approximately 8weeks you have until the birth they can quite easily grow faster or slower than that average curve says they will.

Scans are a rough guide, hence NICE guidelines being that a c section shouldn't be preplanned just because of size, regardless of how big the scan is predicting the baby to be.

Memphisbelly · 23/12/2014 16:24

han at 32 week scan my baby measured the same I was told it is spot on 50th centille for that many weeks but he has a head and belly above 75th centile.
ds was scanned at same time and they told me to expect a 10-11 pounder and he was under 7

LancashireTea · 23/12/2014 17:16

Viper I have been taking it for just over a week. 2 tabs in the am and 2 with dinner. If I eat enough then I feel ok but will feel a bit vommy at time. Does regulate my sugars really well. But I noticed a difference yesterday when I only had it with my tea.

Just gone for a lovely lunch with my bestie and her husband. Had a lovely turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwich. Yum. Pity it's chucking it down in Bolton otherwise we'd have gone for a walk as well.

hanflan · 23/12/2014 17:55

Lots of reassurance from you guys, thank you! So she might not be huge after all... But even if she is then it'll be ok. I agree it's better than measuring far too small!

BanglesSpangles · 23/12/2014 17:59

Ooh my fricking jeebus- just sprinted all of about 200 yards for a bus. That was so not a good idea. Far too full of baby for all this but it was that or a 30 minute walk home

All finished work-wise for Christmas though, so Yay!

Han I've been measuring small the whole pregnancy and had 2 growth scans. Last one at 33+6 weeks had her move from 12th to 11th centile. I just hope she'll be strong and fit enough when born. As everyone had said, the measurements and predictions can be wildly inaccurate (as they were for my sister) so I have no idea how many tiny little things I need. Will have to pack a range of sizes for the hospital I think...

blankfornames · 23/12/2014 18:12

Han,if it makes any difference, Im all set for a 10 pounder also and has a massive shock of hair too!!
Everything confirmed yo be good with baba but I'll be in hospital for another week anyway. i don't mind really. Taken great care of! Thanks for all well wishes.
grinning sorry about your loss. Christmas always makes these times that little bit harder.

Memphisbelly · 23/12/2014 18:19

Blank hope you get lots of visits over christmas so you still have a nice one.

big babies don't always mean a harder birth, i remembercthinking oh my goodness this baby is going to be massive then when he got pulled out he was the smallest baby anyone in either family had ever had....any bigger and I fear it will be stuck in me forever

freneticfox · 23/12/2014 18:33

New hospital has restored my faith in humanity... the consultant was really confused as to why such a bullish approach had been taken with me. She was also unsure why I was told I wouldn't be able to have a water birth. So the 'plan' is to labour in water and if it's not working for me and it's still possible, they'll be happy to do a section.

This is obviously taking emergencies and unforeseen circumstances out of the equation!

Much, MUCH happier. The consultant listened to our concerns, talked us through various options and validated our concerns.

Happy early Christmas present for us!

Viperama · 23/12/2014 19:52

Yaay, very happy for you Frenetic Smile

GeekyHybrid · 23/12/2014 20:51

So glad for you frenetic, a wonderful Christmas pressie. Xx

BanglesSpangles · 23/12/2014 22:17

Yeaaah! Awesome news frenetic- shame it was so much grief getting there, but glad its all worked out for you :)

Memphisbelly · 23/12/2014 23:09

Frenetic I am so happy for you, this is such a positive result! Hopefully this is the start of things improving for you!

Im so tired, been work, cemetary, done some jobs and cooked and then met friends until 10, I was totally shattered, now home. Feel exhausted but cant sleep and am being collected at 4.30 to do the xmas shop!

Ticktick · 24/12/2014 07:29

Happy Christmas Eve everyone :)

frenetic glad you've had a better response at new hospital. It's about time you had happy news!

We are heading off on the long drive from Oxford to Cornwall today to stay with ILs. Just dropping cats at cattery then its probably a day in the car. Hope traffic is kind to us, eek!

Happy Christmas everyone in case I don't get chance to post again X

hanflan · 24/12/2014 08:02

Yay frenetic that's such good news! To be honest in those cases, even if they had refused to consider a section, the fact that they listened to you and treated you with respect makes all the difference! So do they think that giving birth in water might be a good option for all your hip issues etc?
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE EVERYONE!

GeekyHybrid · 24/12/2014 08:46

Typical! Was up about 3 times in the night to wee, did I remember to do any of them in the jar ready to take to MW appointment?! Sat drinking a pint of squash with only a half hour until I need to leave :-S
Maybe by the end of this I'll learn re: samples - but I doubt it! ;-D

BanglesSpangles · 24/12/2014 08:51

Merry christmas eve everyone!

On the list...
Go to mums to help prep veg (only fair as am eating there now)

Merry Christmas Eve everyone. Good luck to those of you travelling far today.

I have to just get through my half a day a work this morning, then home to finish wrapping presents and prep the stuffing. Thankfully no-one is due to visit us over the next few days (we are going to everyone else this year) so last minute cleaning the house isn't top priority.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 24/12/2014 09:36

Merry Xmas everyone
grinning sorry for your loss.
blank glad they are looking after you well and that things are looking up.
frenetic that's fantastic - what a lovely Xmas pressie. The out come wasn't important, the being listened to and options discussed properly with you, helping you make an informed decision about your care is everything. The other hospital could learn a lot from your new one - in some ways I think you're lucky you had problems with them when you did - you can imagine how awful your birth could have been (even without your hip problems) at a place with such uncompassionate, totally uncaring HCP.

Its been quite a difficult week here - after getting stuck on sofa sat night whilst DH was at works party, I was suffering horrendously with hips all through Sunday and Monday, couldn't even stand without DH basically holding me up. He had to take a day off work - looks bad in Xmas week but needs must. I cannot understand how sorting some baby clothes sat on the sofa could mess me up so badly - I feel utterly useless.

On the plus side we've found something that has helped now - a teddy bear mattress enhancer, despite our mattress being a very good one that is actually comfortable for my problematic back the enhancer helped relieve pressure on my hips making lying down the least painful its been in weeks - unfortunately it hurts DHs back. I'd definitely recommend trying one to anyone with hip problems, they are only 16.99 for a king size one in homebargains at the moment.

Minichuch · 24/12/2014 09:38

Job number two in our house completed - first was wrap presents for friends this afternoon and second was take cats to vets for check up - both done - one cat kindly brought me an early Xmas present lol

Only last bits of shopping, meet with friends this afternoon and then home for dh to finish work at 6pm - then don't move from sofa until bedtime

Merry Christmas all - hope everyone has a fab time

LittleMissSunshine33 · 24/12/2014 10:18

Happy Christmas Eve Everyone!

Frenetic great news! Only a week til 2015! Eeek!

I seem to be more tired now I'm not working glad I've got a few weeks after I finish work in January to get over working as I know it and switch off!

PeppermintInfusion · 24/12/2014 10:26

That's fantastic frenetic!

I'm going to have to actually think about labour as I've had several people ask me about it in the past week and I've realised I haven't really properly thought about it so far Blush

There is only me and only other person on my floor in work this morning and I've nothing to do, really wish I hadn't come in especially as I had a terrible night's sleep- think the WC and flu jabs have made me a bit feverish.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Memphisbelly · 24/12/2014 10:27
