We were getting perilously close to being full up, hope no one minds!

We're definitely planning on doing baby signing classes - I've heard great things about it, and it seems like a wonderful way to communicate with baby.

We're planning on not using a dummy as we don't really like the idea of it - but it seems like a very personal thing which people vary wildly on! I'm sure that if we have a baby with serious colic or reflux issues and nothing is working to soothe them then we will fast reconsider...

Congrats catsofa!

I have an irrational hatred of dummies so never offered one to DD.
Then again she was a stellar sleeper (not bc of anything we did - sheer luck). I bet if this one's not we'll be trying anything and everything in order to stay sane.

DH in a rage as it's a fast day so he's hungry, the yoghurt had weirdly gone off and there is no diet lemonade in the fridge. Leaving him in kitchen getting on with some work in attempt not to have a silly row bc we're both tired.

Thanks all for the whooping cough news. I'll call the doc tomorrow and find out what's what. Now I've come down with this filthy cold I'm relieved to have already had my flu vaccination and mildly paranoid about contracting anything else.

I was told whooping cough vaccine at 28 weeks or later (I think?) - any earlier and it won't pass to the baby which is the purpose of it.

Flu vaccine however is to protect you not baby so can be had at any time.

Hidingthefear · 15/12/2014 21:03

ewby why shouldn't we have licorice? Not something I would choose but now you've mentioned it I really sherbert fountain! Haha

daholster bed time dummies might be a good idea, hadn't thought about that. I'm really interested in the baby signing thing, where did you learn the basics?
I tried googling but lots of sights wanted money and I don't trust them, any good books anyone could recommend?

What is colic? I've heard it a few times and the bottles I were looking at had a sign on the front about anti colic or something.

On a side note, i Finally gave in to a gaviscon type medicine but I think it's giving me wind Blush better than the acid in my through though

minipie · 15/12/2014 21:04

Oh and I have rib pain too. Well it's more like a stabbing pain just under my ribs at diaphragm level especially at night. From googling it's quite common in pregnancy and there is nothing I can do about it

Also finding I am choking or swallowing the wrong way a lot - again apparently this is a common pregnancy thing! Anyone else?

minipie · 15/12/2014 21:07

Hiding colic is a term for large amounts of crying for no obvious reason usually in the evenings and usually between 4-12 weeks.

Some people think it's linked to wind - the anti colic bottles are designed so they don't swallow so much air. Some people think it's linked to overtiredness as that is quite common around that age if you don't get enough naps into them.

smogsville · 15/12/2014 21:20

minipie yes that sounds right about the whooping cough. I'm having a blonde moment.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/12/2014 21:25

Ds1 had colic and was bf which everyone kept telling me can't happen! One hv eventually said it was colic and I tried infacol, but it didn't make any difference. He cried from 3-8pm every day unless he was feeding or sleeping, it was exhausting and emotionally draining. I used some massage techniques which helped a bit but it was a miserable few weeks :(

minipie · 15/12/2014 22:12

DD was BF and had colic too. With hindsight I think it was because she was tongue tied - which meant she was hungry, windy, and overtired (the hunger/wind kept waking her up so she barely napped). Much sympathy cinnamon, it sucks doesn't it!

He's 7 now it's a distant memory Xmas Wink he was a rubbish napper until about 6 months but definitely wasn't hungry he ate a lot! I think he had reflux but it was never diagnosed. A very grumpy baby until he could sit up really but a super easy toddler Xmas Grin

daholster · 15/12/2014 23:02

We learned a few signs off my mum who works with nursery age children with language development needs... Cheating really! They were just a few Makaton signs (sp?) I bet there are some good you tube videos if you know who to trust.

Dh is still feeling sicky but is keeping water in at least... And is now feeling fluey... So I worry it's a virus and we will get it Confused - dd just woke up crying and I was convinced she was about to sit up and bring back her tea Sad Thankfully she didn't. But I think it will be a fitful night's sleep for me. I stress about sick stuff so much, I'm not good at all with it. It's a mild phobia really. When it's me I panic but I can handle it, when it's other people I deal with it (especially dd of course, she needs cuddles if she's poorly) but I get so stressed in between the bursts of it. It's horrid, I get so on edge, heart thumping, can't sleep. I know it's ridiculous.

Still, dad helpfully pointed out today that it is not a good time for me to get a vomiting bug - 23 weeks pregnant, nearly my birthday/Christmas, and with an ileostomy (you can dehydrate really quickly). Well, yes... I'm not sure I know what I can really do about it though!

Speaking of which, I'd best go to bed and lie next to the poorly man... I do feel sorry for him. Night all.

daholster · 15/12/2014 23:41

She's crying again Sad and my heart is thumping and going ten to the dozen while dh snoozes... Don't think I'm going to get any sleep, I'm so stressed out!!! Sad

TinyTear · 16/12/2014 07:34

Hope you managed an ok night.

I was bracing myself for a shite night so it wasn't too bad in the end. brough DD in with us at 2am. she has a bad cold with some spikes of temperature, streaming nose and a slight headache... sigh...

yesterday was bad, but hoping today will be better (she is still sleeping and i am working from home) and she can go to nursery tomorrow (as I have my scan in the morning... we might nurofen her up and send her in)

cinnamongreyhound · 16/12/2014 07:42

Hope it wasn't too bad daholster, so often the worry is worse than the actual event.

I woke up at 5 to find my bed empty, came down and Dh was up drinking tea and watching YouTube videos because he'd been awake half the night and got fed up laying there. He came back to bed with me but said he didn't sleep much before the alarm went off :(

smogsville · 16/12/2014 09:44

Sorry to everyone who's had a difficult night. We went into check on DD before turning in ourselves and she was asleep, on her knees, arms on edge of bed, wrapped up in duvet poor lamb! Didn't know whether to laugh or feel guilty for not checking on her earlier (how long had she been in this position?!).

Once again my 5am back ache has been massively alleviated by this preg pillow my friend's lent me. It's called something like comfort u body support pillow (full size). Quite amazing and much better than the smaller didgeridoo shaped one I had when preg with DD as it seems to keep me on my side, stops me thrashing about and lying on my back which I think is what causes the problems.

With all this perpetual sneezing I have given in and bought some panty liners. I wouldn't say I'm feeling totally 'carefree' as per the branding, but at least i know I'm safe at work in my jeans....

ChickenMe · 16/12/2014 10:51

Will have to get one of those pillows smog as I cannot get comfortable. Have admiration for those who already have DC as I'm extremely ratty as it is, cannot imagine having to cope with another little one.

I'm scared that my obsession with chocolate will mean I get gestational diabetes.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 16/12/2014 10:52

various pages predicting all sorts of dire outcomes if we have liquorice... no clear consensus tbh. I seem to be ok having eaten loads yesterday

smogsville · 16/12/2014 11:08

Chicken the pillow is the bomb. When said friend offered it I was massively sceptical, having not found the smaller one much use in first preg. Now I am literally in love with it and would swap each and every family member for it if need be. Me and the pillow could have a long, happy and mutually fulfilling life together.

Your choc post made me laugh. I had a similar thing with DD and again in this pregnancy. Didn't get GD first time around, tried to keep it under control, some days I succeeded, others not so much.

At the risk of sounding like an AA counsellor, how much of it are you eating? Do you reach for it first thing in the morning when you wake up?!

smogsville · 16/12/2014 11:09

Ebwy - what someone else said about the NHS page.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 16/12/2014 11:59

I'm not worrying about it, Smogs, just ignoring the rest of the bag just in case. Pity my kids won't eat it!

Hidingthefear · 16/12/2014 12:31

thanks minipie :)

finally managed to have my anomoly scan completed, a little walking around and wiggling about and she eventually managed to get the measurements she needed. Saw his hear beating and his cute little nose and feel a bit more relaxed. Scary that the next time I see him he'll be on the outside!!

Hidingthefear · 16/12/2014 12:34

forgot to attach his little picture. Here he is if anyone wants a look Grin

Lovely picture hiding - what a cute little button nose! All my 20 week scan photos are a bit weird as he wouldn't keep still! Here he is doing front crawl and some weird stretching Grin
