We were getting perilously close to being full up, hope no one minds!

Wow that was quick. Thanks ladies Grin . This feels like an invisible pregnancy. My toddler only let's me remember I'm pregnant about once a week.

monkey2014 · 11/12/2014 09:23

Finally caught up!
I have sinusitis almost constantly, been going on for over ten years! I usually ice pack my face...sounds awful but feels amazing :)

TinyTear · 11/12/2014 09:32

Brere I feel the same... i have a nearly 3yo and she just keeps me busy! although she has now realised i can't run after her or pick her up when walking (walky cuddle)

kismac · 11/12/2014 09:46

Daholster, don't feel bad for taking time off. Your body needs time to rest to help you get well again.

Hiding, if you're being sick don't let them fob you off. It takes away so much of your energy being sick and we're supposedly meant to be enjoying being pregnant. Ha ha. Im fortunate in that so many people are telling me how good I look now, cause apparently I looked dreadful before, so that's my silver lining. Ha ha.

Welcome Brere! Sorry, Im Glasgow.

brummagem · 11/12/2014 10:11

Hello!
I've been lurking from the start of these threads but now finally had my 20 weeks scan feeling a bit more brave to say hi.

It's my 1st baby (a complete shock to find self pregnant!) and I'm 39 we found out it's a boy which is brilliant as my poor dad is surrounded by girls with a wife 2 daughters and a granddaughter!

Hope you're all starting to feel festive! Looking forward to one last peaceful and relaxed Christmas!

BonjourMinou · 11/12/2014 10:28

Wow these threads move on quickly! Don't you ladies sleep?!

Forgot to say to Oneday that I wish her mum's partner a speedy recovery, hopefully they have made him as comfortable as can be. What a horrible thing to happen at this time of year!

Brere and Brummagem Hello, welcome and congratulations! Flowers Shame we can't have festive flowers. Bauble? Poinsietta?

Lauren do what I did and email him the link to the exact sling that you want. I gave him a choice of colours to pick for me, I think he prefers to be told, makes Christmas easier for him. Xmas Grin Now I'm desperate to know which colour he picked though!

Daholster rest up, take it easy and don't feel guilty about having to take time off to be sick. We all have to do it. xx

TinyTear · 11/12/2014 10:39

Which sling are you getting Bonjour?

This time I am thinking of the Ergo 360... want to give it a try in a shop but I think it's the one I will go for... I might see if my parents will contribute as they did buy the pram for DD, if not will use Christmas money...

(last time I had a Baby Bjorn, I know I know, but to be fair, My DD loved it, and does not have hip issues. and I always held her up with the legs up even with the carrier, I kept a hand there a lot of the time...)

smogsville · 11/12/2014 10:42

Welcome Brere, welcome brumma.
Londoner here.

catsofa - I just bought big m&s granny knickers in prep for section recovery when preg with DD - the ones that look like the bottoms of 50s bikinis - very high waisted and low on the leg.

I think they were about ten quid or so for a pack of five. I got them in one size bigger than my normal and they were fine with my section scar as they came up to my belly button!

Midwife said they seemed like a much more sensible option than the expensive weird net-like ones. As long as they're pure cotton your skin can breathe through them.

TinyTear · 11/12/2014 10:50

after i had DD i sent DH to sainsbury's to buy me granny knickers - he called to say none were called granny knickers
Grin

also handy to keep a pad on your section scar...

FreedomHuntress · 11/12/2014 11:13

Welcome, Brere and brum. Great to have you here.

Tiny, lol @ your DH. Xmas Grin

Daholster, Warwy is a great name! Xmas Grin
Actually, Warwick is super awesome, gives him extra options ...

BonjourMinou · 11/12/2014 11:35

I'm getting a Je porte mon bebe little wrap without a knot here

I also want a connecta integra though, so will buy that nearer the time under the guise of "baby essential" Grin

No judging on the Babybjorn here, I'm the proud owner of a babybjorn miracle. I know they're not ideal, but to be fair when i bought it I thought the only issue with them was they weren't great for your back, so I bought the miracle because it has special back support. I wasn't aware that they weren't that ergonomic for baby at the time, nor did I know about the other buckles available out there eyes connecta and tula websites

I do now know about the Babybjorn scarf trick (picture below) which is supposed to make them much better. I've never done it myself though, mainly because I haven't worn the carrier for a long enough time for it to matter. I'm really determined to baby wear number 2 though.

I forgot to say, on the knickers conundrum, I just bought a couple packs of Tesco value plain black knickers in a size up. Super comfy, much better than the paper knickers they try to flog you I'm still wearing them now though

BonjourMinou · 11/12/2014 11:36

Whoops forgot to post the picture of the scarf trick! D'oh!

Siarie · 11/12/2014 12:01

We're getting the Stokke Mycarrier, I've not seen anyone suggest it's not good for the baby? I would love to read a comparison if carriers are meant to be bad compared to slings.

TinyTear · 11/12/2014 12:11

Siarie, the main thing is about the leg positioning. babies should have the legs more spread out and not hanging - see picture above

Bonjour, that seems good, but I prefer one with buckles - hence eyeing up the ergo

Siarie · 11/12/2014 12:18

Oh that's fine then, just checked out some pictures and the legs look ok for little ones.

www.stokke.com/GBR/en-gb/baby-carriers/stokke-mycarrier-cool/3291.html

It's for my DH to use when we want to not take the travel system so should be ok!

TinyTear · 11/12/2014 12:21

And when they are older and if you like hiking/walking we have one of these:

www.deutergb.co.uk/family/kid-comfort-iii/

Have done walks from simple 10k to 25k... although the 25k was a bit pushing our limit...

BananaToast · 11/12/2014 12:27

daholster Rory Jack is lovely (and your DD sounds very cute!).

I've not thought about slings yet, think I'll wait til baby's here and go and try some at a sling library if I can. Otherwise I'll manage without to start off with. It's a step too far for me to think about at the moment!

Welcome brummagem Smile

daholster · 11/12/2014 12:52

Hi gem! Ooh all these lurkers, how exciting!

Well, I had a four hour sleep for my nap. Think my call to stay at home today was definitely the right one!!!! Maybe it will fix me up to manage tomorrow ok.

daholster · 11/12/2014 12:56

PS thanks kismac and bonjour. It just never feels good staying at home when it means lots of people are disappointed and a colleague has to work harder.

And thanks for the name thumbs up freedom and banana! I think she's cute... freedom you do make me smile! Xmas Smile

Lauren82000 · 11/12/2014 13:04

Misty - As far as I know my blood pressure is fine. Well it was the last couple of times it's been checked. When I mentioned dizziness and headaches to my mw she just told me to stop eating sweet things. (Very helpful of her!)
I'll be mentioning it when I go again. No doubt I'll be told the same thing. I swear she has no people skills at all. Hmm

Bonjour - I did exactly that. Sent him the link to the sling and said its a bit pricey here but you can find it for cheaper if you look around. Gave him a choice of 2 colours as well. Bet I don't get it though Sad He's not very receptive to my help. He always seems to buy me crap I don't want or need instead.

BonjourMinou · 11/12/2014 13:24

Siarie I'm no expert but the legs look spread out to me and that's the main thing Grin

Tiny Totally agree with you re buckles, that's why I'm after a connecta as well! My sister in law has an Ergo and I tried one very briefly in the shop, before I bought the babybjorn, but I just couldn't cope with the clip you have to do up behind your back. You might be more flexible than I am! The connecta looks like it might be a little easier to clip together.

I want the ring sling I'm getting for Christmas, mainly for when DS is a tiny baby, but also because it looks nice and compact to chuck under the pram/in the changing bag - I found DD got fed up with being in the pram after a while when out shopping, it's really useful to have a carrier/sling of some sort to carry them in in those situations.

Slightly obsessed with slings now

BonjourMinou · 11/12/2014 13:27

Lauren you'll have to let us know if you get it!

minipie · 11/12/2014 13:36

I can't keep up with you lot!

Welcome to the new ladies.

Slings - I've got myself a Beco Gemini. It's about the only one (other than the unfavoured bjorn) which allows facing out, which I'd like to keep as an option as DD loved it, only for short periods of course. Also the Gemini is good for small people like me or like I used to be. Haven't tried it without a bump or with an actual baby yet though so let's see.

I find my usual knickers are low cut enough to not bother the bump.

Advice please... I am a little bit worried... Bump was very active at the weekend and has been much less active since. I'm not sure whether to call midwife about this or if I am being silly? I know movements vary a lot at this stage (23.5 weeks), and there have been a few kicks and I've used doppler to hear the heartbeat so I know she's still alive in there. Also not sure there is much they could do even if she was in trouble Sad. Any views?

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 11/12/2014 13:39

my H&M order arrived today (ordered on the 2nd)... will try on tomorrow and let you know how the maternity stuff is.

first ever maternity clothes for me! eeeeek!

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 11/12/2014 13:43

minipie

drink something VERY cold and caffeinated, then lay down quietly without much movement. Did the trick for me, little girl was kicking me a lot last night after that.

My 4 year old put his hand where I told him she was kicking then yelled "aaauuugh! it MOVED!!" lol
my partner felt her for the first time too after that...
