The loft EbwyIsUpTheDuff?

I actually got on better with camilosan ChickenMe and much cheaper!!

smogsville · 06/12/2014 22:30

The whole bedroom temp thing is ridiculous they go on and on about how room should be between 16 and 19 and you panic if it shows as hotter even though common sense tells you it feels fine. Looking forward to not being such a worrywart this time around.

Will be doing Moses again until three months then own room and cot same as last time. DD was beating the bejesus out of her m basket by 12 weeks last time and she was so loud in her sleep! Also she was sleeping through by then so not worth keeping her close for sake of easy night feeds

Of course this one could be a total shocker and never sleep, so we'll see.

BonjourMinou · 07/12/2014 07:03

Actually I agree with smogsville on the whole temperature thing. Although I think I read it should be between 18 and 20! Anyway that's very cold and I was constantly worrying about the temperature. When you think how hot it is in the delivery ward that's insane!

Lauren82000 · 07/12/2014 08:25

DD was born just at the start of a boiling summer. Her bedroom hit 27 at one point. DH is the worrier but not much you can do other than open the window and let them sleep in a vest and nappy.

One thing I will recommend is a digital thermometer for when they get ill. Easier to keep an eye on fevers than the strips or traditional ones. Smile I've had mine for years and we've all used it. (Adults for justifying days off)

StuntNun · 07/12/2014 09:08

It's quite easy to tell whether a baby is too cold, you just put your hand on their chest. They can have cold hands because they're outside in the cold but if their chest is warm then they're okay. I always go by the rule that baby needs one more layer than you do. My mum is a health visitor and she says she sees babies wrapped up in loads of blankets and a hat in the house when the adults are walking around in normal clothes and that worries her.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/12/2014 10:13

I always goes by the one extra layer rule too StuntNun. My mum used to stress when I had ds2 in the sling with no coat, I tried to explain he's got my body heat from one side, stretchy cotton and my huge cardigan (big enough to do up ober him) on the other. My concern was he was too hot rather than too cold! We got through the whole winter with that green cardy, never wore it again, once he stopped being in the sling as it was huge by then!

minipie · 07/12/2014 14:15

I kind of ignore the temp guidelines tbh... DD has always been a cold person (like me) and wouldn't sleep at 18 degrees. In the end I realised she slept better warm and put the temp up to 20-21, it was either follow the guidelines or us all get some sleep!

For the new baby I will use the Sleepyhead in bed with me at the start (DH will move to spare room), then sleepyhead inside the cot, then cot... that's the plan anyway let's see if the baby agrees!

Temperature was one thing we had hell with with DD. I was always convinced she was hotter than she actually was, and someone had helpfully said "a cold baby wakes up and cries, a hot baby doesn't wake up" so DD spent the first year of her life freezing because I was scared of slow roasting her whilst she slept. I have since learnt to ignore such helpful advice!!

It has started! Strangers have started fucking trying to touch my bump! I'm considerably less than impressed about having to dodge touchy feely people but it was definitely taking the piss that someone leant over the checkout at work today to try and touch me without even bloody checking it was ok first!!

I went to a house party last night (Biggest. mistake. ever) got home at 3:30 and got up with DD at 7:30 somehow made it through work but am completely ruined now. complete with falling asleep in the bath >.< DH has actually been a star (whilst rolling in the "I told you so" joy) and cooked me snacks type food and propped me up with full sugar coke.

Siarie · 08/12/2014 01:14

Oh Boo! Flowers I hate people touching me unless I consent lol. I'm even a recoil from hug greetings person unless I know them well.

My bump is very much there now, I can't remember if I posted it here? I posted on the FB group lol. But it's reaching stranger touching season for all I think!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/12/2014 07:37

I'm afraid I've already been the TheBooMonster! I don't work with the public so less risk!

My dss was ill this weekend so we didn't get our tree Sad now have to wait another week. Dh was at work yesterday which made me really sad, he's trying to get some over time to counter act my lost hours from my minded children in Jan but he used to work almost every weekend so really feels like going backwards in life Sad But think I've finished Christmas shopping now, just need to get some wrapping and card writing done!!! Ds's Christmas performances on Tuesday so lots of tears from mummy!!

BananaToast · 08/12/2014 08:08

Morning all.

I was also at a party on Saturday night, didn't stay out as late as you Boo but got to bed at 1 and had an early start yesterday so feeling a bit tired still. Better get used to it eh? I had a couple of people touch my belly but they did ask first so I didn't mind. Means I must be starting to look properly pregnant Smile My mum and dad managed to feel the baby moving this weekend as well which was lovely.

Picked up the pram over the weekend which made everything feel very real and scary! I can't believe we are going to have an actual baby in it before too long.

21+0 today and it's finally scan day on Friday! Really can't wait to check that everything is ok in there. I'm trying not to worry too much about potential problems just yet. It definitely feels like baby's having fun. Hoping to find out the sex as well at long last.

Our darling friends all charmingly agreed at our advent party yesterday that I don't look pregnant, 'just a bit fat'. The more mulled wine they consumed, the more open they were with their affectionate comments!

Oh speaking of mulled wine - m&s do a non-alc mulled punch you can drink it cold but we warmed it up with some orange peel so that me and the other prego and any drivers could have something festive and it was really quite lovely. Recommend.

I think I ate five mini mince pies yesterday.

20+5.

TheBooMonster · 08/12/2014 08:52

smog how lovely of them! Non alcoholic mulled punch? Is it m&s own brand or the silver labeled belvere(?) stuff?

smogsville · 08/12/2014 09:49

They are a delightful bunch. Naturally it was my dear gay bestie leading the honesty charge, they all jumped happily on the bandwagon with him though.

DH sensibly positioned himself in a different room and declined to comment.

It's M&S own brand. I've not tried the Belvoir one, sure it's lovely too though, all their other drinks are. Just nice to feel part of the party rather than just having a tonic water or dreaded fizzy drink.

TheBooMonster · 08/12/2014 10:03

smog I was decidedly unimpressed with the Belvoir one, still got half a bottle sitting on the side, may pop into m&s when I'm next in the city and grab theirs to try though, are starting to sicken myself of mulled apple juice >.<

DH and his parents have apparently made a unanimous decision over the weekend whilst I've been at work so it looks like bump will be Isabella Evelyn... I'm just glad that i've managed to get him to make some sort of decision regarding bump that isn't just an attempt to prevent me ever leaving the house again!

banana I had quite forgotten how much lost sleep hurts, newborns will destroy us!

daholster · 08/12/2014 10:37

boo that's a lovely name Smile

I feel I'll AGAIN!!! Another cold/cough, my jaws ache, eybrows and eyes ache, nose is stuffy, face hurts, coughing. Hopefully it's dd's cold she is just getting over. I say hopefully because I spent some time face to face with a kid on Friday who has slapped cheek Confused My hands started aching yesterday along with a sore throat. But hopefully that's all a bit soon to be the parvovirus.

Still, the midwives suggested a blood test in a month to see if I did catch it (I'm not immune) and if that is positive I'll have to be referred to a fetal medicine specialist. All I can do at the moment is take my iron supplement to make sure I don't het anaemic (much worse for an infected baby) and wait! And feel sorry for myself with my cold. That's all I think it is really... Hope so, cos I felt a bit off it already on Friday when I saw the lad.

My left jaw/ear/eye is so uncomfy! Whinge whinge whinge...

21+6

smogsville · 08/12/2014 11:00

Carry on whingeing daholster. What else is this thread for?! Do hope you feel better soon.

BananaToast · 08/12/2014 11:04

Beautiful name Boo - I hope you got a say in it though!

I'm not a fan of mulled wine at the best of times so at least that's one thing I'm not missing. Happy to sit with a lemonade! Think I'll buy a bottle of elderflower fizz or similar in place of champagne on Christmas day - that's when I'll be sad to miss out.

daholster you poor thing, it sounds awful - whinge away! Fingers crossed it's not anything more than a cold.

Just had my boss in my office for a chat about various things and when I mentioned my scan was on Friday she asked if I was going to find out the sex. She was very happy when I said yes and told me I wouldn't be a proper scientist if I wasn't curious to know all the facts I could! It's interesting to see how people's opinions about finding out differ - after telling them I intend to find out some have told me they think it's wrong and should be kept for the birth, but this was a new one today.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 08/12/2014 11:18

The loft EbwyIsUpTheDuff?

no space up there - well, there is atm as we got the outdoor lights etc down yesterday to put out tonight. But I don't see it fitting when the boxes get put back.

wearing summer trousers today - only things that aren't wet (trying to avoid tumble dryer use for ecological reasons) which fit over the bump! Was asked why I'm wearing my pyjamas on the school run by a friend's kid Blush (they do kind of look like PJs, but they aren't!)

Squidge14 · 08/12/2014 11:31

Hi everyone! It's all feeling very real now isn't, planning nurseries and buying the big stuff! Our pram and car seat was delivered to my mum's last week I was over there at the weekend and took the car seat out to have a look but left the pram boxed (where it will stay at mum's until April!) we went for the Bugaboo Chameleon 3 in cream and black we got a free cybex car seat with it worth £120 in the black Friday madness so I'm very pleased with it!

20wk scan on Wednesday - cannot wait just to make sure all is ok! Have been feeling baby wriggling around a bit more lately but not enough for OH to feel it, bless him!
