this is some friends have questioned the same, if in fact I've faked the whole pregnancy!

Woken up hungry (standard), lay in bed with cramps, get up and have a couple of contractions, sit down to eat shreddies and they stop.

I hate choosing I'm sure my anxiety about my family being all over me has stalled things, as soon as I put them on radio silence these contractions have started.

BTW, my induction was booked at my 1stsweep apt at 41 weeks,I was offered either 12 or 14 days over. I went for 14 desperately wanting more time to go naturally.

So, another mad men episode while I pace the living room trying to get things going before I crawl back into bed.

Sammijay84 · 20/11/2014 08:17

Hedgehogsong a week?!?!? Oh my god you poor soul!!!! Hope your baba comes very very soon!!!
How come I'm seeing that some of you are on your second/third sweep attempt? I'm now 40+5 and go for my first sweep tomorrow..... Why is my midwife determined to keep me pregnant????? Lol!
Strawberryfield i have the same worries..... strangely I'm not even a little bit worried/nervous about the birth (call me naive, call me stupid, maybe ignorance is bliss lol but I'm sure the nerves will kick in when the contractions do) but I'm terrified about the bit after..... coming home just the 3 of us and being like "ok what the hell do we do now?!"

catg83 · 20/11/2014 08:24

Ladydolly- good luck for today.

Welcome newbies. This last stretch definitely does seem to be the hardest bit.

40+7 today (so does that make me 41?). 2 definite contractions last night while watching TV on the ball and then.....nada. Actually a really good night's sleep. Out patient Induction booked for Wednesday morning but would much rather "go" on my own. We will see. PGP is horrendous this morning so think I am missing aquanatal. x

moggle · 20/11/2014 08:31

I wanted to come back and say that DD is 8 days today and I think that sleeping is MUCH better now she's out even taking into account I'm waking every 2-4 hours to bf her. I can sleep on my back, can flip from side to side without needing an industrial hoist, and I can fall asleep on the sofa in comfort too. I seem to fall asleep pretty quick again after each feed (as long as she does too!). Think tummy sleeping is a way off yet due to enormous boobs but in general sleep is much better than I thought it'd be.

Hope things kick up a gear for those of you currently in early labour and we're seeing you on the postnatal thread very very soon. xxx

excitedforbaba · 20/11/2014 08:35

I hate choosing good luck for sweep today hope it goes well for u

sammi I actually laughed at that "why is my midwife determined to keep me pregnant" comment! I felt that way about my consultant but midwife has been great!

I'd been booked in for sweep 1 at 39+6 but when I went for my antenatal check I was cranky and fed up and midwife offered it to me at 39+3 then attempt 2 was at 40+2 at my scheduled consultant appointment. They offer them quite freely at my hospital, think they even prefer for us to go "ourselves" with only a slight intervention

haventgotaclue1 · 20/11/2014 08:43

Morning everyone - welcome to the new additions to the group Smile

40+2 today and am now more than ready to have this baby - it's the first time I've actually felt like this - maybe due to the shocking night's sleep I had last night (could have done with joggle's "industrial hoist" to have got in and out of bed a million times); hips that ache so much it's ridiculous; and when I did manage to haul myself out of bed a really bad stitch-like pain in one side.. Sorry, will try to stop moaning...

Could really do with some signs that bean is wanting to make an appearance soon (apart from making me sore with all its kicking!).

Sammi, I'm like you - haven't had any sweep yet - in fact 1st one is booked in for 41 weeks on the dot - am hoping it won't come to that. In fact, another "Sod's Law" approach I'm taking is NOT to figure out how to use the steriliser / breast pump that's still sat in its box from when I bought it in a sale a couple of months ago nothing to do with the fact that I really don't have the energy to concentrate on figuring it out

Hope everyone has a good day today and we see some action!

haventgotaclue1 · 20/11/2014 08:44

"joggle's"???!!! Sorry, meant Moggle's Blush

Sammijay84 · 20/11/2014 09:18

Excitedforbaba where do you live? I'm wondering if it's just my area that are slack?! In all fairness I shouldn't really be complaining, I've had it easy. I'm not in pain, I sleep ok (get up for a wee 3/4 times a night but can usually manage to get straight back to sleep) and I've had no uncomfortable BHs etc. Sorry if it seems I'm rubbing it in...... I'm really not, in fact I think id prefer a bit of discomfort as it may mean that labour was not so far away. My main reason for concern is that if I go to 40+12 I can no longer go to the midwife led unit and have to choose a proper hospital instead and I really have my heart set on the MLU. Oh and of course the 3 million texts/Facebook msgs every single day stating the very obvious "my god, still no baby???" don't help do they?!? Im not sure if I'm getting more cranky or if my friends are becoming more moronic by the day?! Ha Shock

ladydolly · 20/11/2014 09:37

Right, 42 weeks, hospital ready when we are to go in for induction so I guess this is it! Fully expected it to be this evening which has thrown dp into a bit of a panic. I'm ready to go, he's still in the shower.

Good luck everyone, hope things get going for you all soon and hope I'm back with news in the next few days!!!

haventgotaclue1 · 20/11/2014 09:44

Good luck Ladydolly Grin - will be thinking of you Thanks

Sammijay84 · 20/11/2014 09:46

Good luck ladydolly Smile can't wait to hear your good news xx

excitedforbaba · 20/11/2014 09:52

Good luck lady dolly Flowers

CazY777 · 20/11/2014 10:04

Good luck ladydolly, let us know how you get on when you can

hedgehogsong, that's how I feel most evenings and its really beginning to annoy me! Last night was particularly bad, spent hours on the ball having pains and mild contractions but then they stopped at about 11pm, then my hips start aching! And this morning I just feel like I've been for a 15 mile hike, not that I'm about to have a baby!

Off to the hospital again today for more monitoring and another attempt at a sweep. I'm definitely going for the gas and air again, I wouldn't say it took the discomfort away but it just made me care less about having it done (I'm extremely anxious about those kind of things) and it made me laugh afterwards instead of feeling stressed (until the consultant came in and started badgering me about following hospital protocols and agreeing a date for induction. I'm not seeing the consultant today, thank god)

Thehedgehogsong · 20/11/2014 10:09

Good luck lady, have a super fast, relatively pain free labour!

Thisisimpossible · 20/11/2014 10:21

The very best of luck ladydolly. I am so pleased for you that your end is in sight. You've been an absolute trooper. I'll be thinking of you and hoping it all goes smoothly. Smile

Sammi I'm 40+6 today and have not had a sweep yet. Tbh at my 40wk appt my cervix was still closed so there was little point in fiddling around and being in pain.

I'm also desperate to have it at the MLU. Induction means hospital which scares the crap out of me so I am praying very hard that he or she turns up before that.

Good luck to those having sweeps today xx

Thehedgehogsong · 20/11/2014 10:22

Caz it's so annoying isn't it! Never knowing if tonight will be the night! Well done for sticking to your guns on the induction. I really hate it when medical professionals try to bully pregnant women into doing things on their terms!

CazY777 · 20/11/2014 10:39

Thanks, hedgehog, it's bloody annoying! Every night I think 'this must be it', when it goes off I hope I can get a couple of hours sleep and wake up and they will start up again, but all I do is wake up in the night because I need to wee or my hips hurts! I'm hoping they can manage to do something to get my cervix moving along today as on Monday it was still posterior and 'unfavourable'.

It's great being about to moan about these things with people who understandSmile

Thisisimpossible · 20/11/2014 10:49

Ark if you're around, just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and sending you lots of love. Take care xx

Thehedgehogsong · 20/11/2014 10:50

I definitely understand, I'm exactly the same, I think ooh quick I'll get some sleep and be ready for it to kick off for real in a couple of hours. Then wake up gutted when it all stops! I was woken up about 4am by one big real contraction and I was so happy! Then nothing. PAH!

Annarose2014 · 20/11/2014 11:19

Just popping in to agree with moggle that yes, for the most part, sleep is essier now post-baby. You can only do it in 2/3 hr stretches but oh the bliss of being able to sleep on your back! And being able to turn over just like that! No pillows to adjust! And my trapped nerve in my groin that i had for 2 agonising months literaaly disappeared post-labour.

And don't worry unduly if you're a light sleeper - I used to awaken at a mouse farting in the street & worried about being able to sleep at all without earplugs, but now I'm in a coma as soon as baby falls asleep.

But then I hated being pregnant towards the end - I put on my Converse yesterday & almost wept with the joy of being able to bend over and tie my laces! Yep, this is definately easier.

Good luck ladydolly!

Strawberryfield12 · 20/11/2014 11:40

Good luck lady!

Been told by the MW that they would offer me a sweep if baby hasn't appeared by the mid next week. So I have been reading on about it this morning and at the moment feel that I will not do it. It appears that sweep is effective only in case you would have been going into labor during next 2 days anyway? So what's the point? Otherwise it could only lead to pains, cramps and false contractions. I am still all over the friend google about this all though. Up to now I have only had few pains which sound like the ones when the baby's head is engaging, otherwise I have been able to enjoy myself all these days and nights - sleeping all through and feeling ok during the day. If the sweep will only make me suffer for days and wont lead to a labor, then it's probably not worth it?

As with regards going over 42 weeks. You don't have to get induced just because of the dates, you can choose to have a monitoring and go in every day for one after 42 weeks. If baby is all fine there isn't any proper reason for induction (EDD is an estimate and they could have got it wrong anyway).

I also desperately want a natural birth in MLU and I do hope that it does not go as far as making all those decisions though ....

Thehedgehogsong · 20/11/2014 13:45

Strawberry I agree! I've refused a sweep too. My due date was brought forward, so if I do make it to 42 weeks I'll be arguing for a 5 day cushion before induction.

Arkkorox · 20/11/2014 13:59

Thank you Thisisimpossible , im doing okay. Plodding a long! Kind of want baby here now, I want to cuddle whatever it is!

However, highlight of my day.... new washing machine and tumble dryer arrived this morning. Far too excited for what would be considered normal!

Thisisimpossible · 20/11/2014 14:11

Oooh no Ark, I quite understand! Our new tumble dryer arrived last week and I was very excited about it!

Ladies, this popped up on my Facebook news feed and I thought it was an interesting article: midwifethinking.com/2010/07/30/pushing-leave-it-to-the-experts/

Ihatechoosingausername · 20/11/2014 14:37

Argh I hope my sweep won't cause problems :S It's booked in for 3:50 today
