Another one with a middle name of Louise! 1987 baby here. Both of my colleagues also have a mn of Louise. I don't mind it as it goes with so many first names. DH's middle name is Edward and I love that too. I really like the idea of passing on our middle names to our DC but I'm not sure DH will go for it!

FreedomHuntress · 14/11/2014 11:43

I have my grandmother's first name as my middle name, it's not Louise. I won't be passing it on to my daughter as I'd rather choose a name we absolutely love. It will start with the same letter though, as does DS's middle name, but that's more coincidence than design. Her mn is linked to DS's in another way too, so I like that extra connexion. DH doesn't have a middle name, sometimes I make one up for him when he has been naughty! :)

TinyTear · 14/11/2014 12:26

I know more people with Jane as a middle name.

Anyway fb group is secret again

Siarie · 14/11/2014 12:31

I've got my 16 week appointment today with my GP though, not sure what's going to happen I think just usual checks which is fine. I'm not expecting anything much but I would like them to check my oxygen levels as I feel funny at times. Last week I really wished I had one of those things you put on your finger to check oxygen.

I had an all in one booking, scan and bloods at 12 weeks (turned out I was 13). Then it's this 16 week GP appointment, then 20/21 week scan and I can't remember the rest. I've also got a consultant appointment in Feb due to my Thyroid, I expect they will just want to label me high or low risk at that point.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/11/2014 12:52

Could be iron levels sairie if you're feeling light headed, should get results of your blood tests and they test for anaemia then. Hope you get to hear hb it's the only thing nice about midwife apts Wink

Hidingthefear · 14/11/2014 13:02

thanks Cinnamon I don't know a lot about breastfeeding and the internet is a world of confusion.
Is it possible to express from the start without ever feeding from the breast? (apart from maybe the first one that has that important colostrum)
I really don't fancy breastfeeding but I do believe that breast is best as far as milk in concerned.

Squatting I have a timeline in my green book (which I don't have with me) but I think here (North Manchester) we have;
10 week booking appointment with mw
12 week scan (nuchal fold triple test done if possible)
16 week midwife appointment
20 week scan
24 week midwife appointment
not quite sure after that, I haven't looked ahead but I know there isn't another scan after 20 weeks (unless there's something they need to check on)
My midwife appointments are in a primary school as they have a sure start centre which means no lengthy waits at the doctors or hospital which is good.

TinyTear · 14/11/2014 13:15

Hiding I know people who have exclusively expressed because their babies were prem, or couldn't suck or had some issues, but it's very very tough

be aware you need an hospital grade pump, you need to pump everytime the baby feeds or more and one or two sessions in the middle of the night are essential to build and maintain supply...

and pumps aren't as efficient as a baby...

but at least you are willing to try... i would contact La Leche League or look at the kellymom website and get as much info as you can before the birth

my middle name is Jane as well :) its kinda nice to hear that it was popular sone where since here in Canada I don't know anyone else with that middle name:p
scan is in approx 4 hours..kinda freaking out with excitement/nervousness!!! lol please send some pink dust thus way;) haha I'll come back and report how it goesSmile !

cowbiscuits · 14/11/2014 15:00

Hello

My lolling at the middle names, it shows our ages, Louise and Jane were probably the most popular middle names of girls I went to school with. Never knew anyone with Jane as a first name- but it's a lovely name and deserves a revival. It would sound great with the girls names I have lined up. My middle name is Elizabeth, I knew a quite lot with that middle name too.

Interesting to read peoples views on breastfeeding. I agree with Squatting and Tiny. I totally respect everyone's choices on if they decide not to breastfeed, but all I'd add, is please don't assume it will be difficult or painful until you've given it a try, with support. Everyone struggles with something with a new baby, but breastfeeding is not always hard, there are plenty of people who manage fine, it's just you never hear about them, because they have no need to post on forums etc! I hear about people who exclusively pump when baby has tongue-tie etc and I think they deserve a medal, expressing is very time-consuming, especially when there's a baby crying because he needs you right now.

Good luck to everyone with their scans! Mine is not for another 3 weeks.

Siarie · 14/11/2014 15:03

cinnamom I wondered about that as I yoyo with my iron. But I've been taking iron supplements. It feels different as well not like out of breath, more like I can't get enough in. I mentioned it and my doctor said my lungs and heart sound ok, but that it could be due to the compression changes and that it may get worse as the baby grows.

I might by an oxygen thing now as I actually almost went to A&E when it happened last time. It felt like I was dying! And they only cost about £20 or something.

Siarie · 14/11/2014 15:05

Oh I picked up my mum to be bounty pack finally, I'm so lazy

JaneyTea · 14/11/2014 15:25

Jane as a first name....Louise as a middle name ..... Blush I hope I manage to be a bit more inventive than my parents were when naming the baby!

cowbiscuits reassuring to hear that breastfeeding isn't always difficult. I really want to try, but feel pretty daunted.

Great to hear that everything's getting sorted for your housing mel, sounds like you deserved to treat yourself!

Hidingthefear · 14/11/2014 15:34

thank you Squatting and tinytear i'll defo have a look at those later on. off out for tea tonight (co-incidentally for Midwife's 50th birthday but i won't bore her with baby talk for tonight lol) I'm not over familiar with randomers, it's my husbands Auntie haha

cowbiscuits you're probably right there, you never hear the good stories because no one feels the need to share them. I guess i'm open to try anything, and i was worried about the whole nipple confusion thing but then i've also ready that it's a myth :/ anyone on here got any good breastfeeding stories? all i keep hearing about it how they feed on demand and don't get into a routine, an you can end up with baby feeding almost constantly which frightens the life out of me. i'm with JaneyTea on this one, it all feels pretty daunting Confused

ooo MsWibble nice to know there's a fellow mum from my neck of the woods, I'll be delivering at North Manchester, is that where you're going or are you having it in Bolton? I'm in Bury myself but as i live near the M66 and above mentioned auntie works at Manchester that's why i'm going there.

Hidingthefear · 14/11/2014 15:35

Siarie where did you go to pick yours up? I have this feeling i'll go to get it and the member of staff will look at me blank and i'll feel like a fool lol

Wineandchoccy · 14/11/2014 15:46

MsWibble and Hidingthefear Im not that far away from you either! I'm In The town near Blackburn beginning with C and we have a castle!!

I picked my Bounty pack up from Asda because the nurse at the hospital told me it has extra things in it, not sure if it does but it had 2 George dribble bibs which I presume are only in the asda packs.

I've just received an ASOS order of maternity wear and apart from one dress it's all going back, I wanted work things but I can't find anything that looks or fits right. I normally wear suits or dresses for work and at the minute I am alternating between 2 dresses that still fit ok.

I'm going to a local NCT sale tomorrow so hopefully there will be some bargains to be had.

FreedomHuntress · 14/11/2014 16:03

Lol, JaneLouise, you win! :)

BFing DS was a breeze and a pleasure. Initially I had to express into a spoon then syringe it in to his mouth - I think he was probably just exhausted after such a long labour. Only did this two or three times, and then he latched on easily and was a milk guzzler. BFing seems to me to be the easiest option - no hassle of making up bottles to go out, getting out of bed at night to warm bottles etc. And cheaper too. Just lots of snuggly breastfeeding. We only stopped just before he was two as we weren't getting anywhere fast TTC no2, and my age was also against us. This one, all being well, I'd love to feed until she is absolutely ready, maybe around four! Plus I don't believe milk from another species is ideal for human babies.
