I don't know much about it but it sounds like you need to get it checked out daholster.

I didn't mean to critisise nerdsgirl or suggest you were being frivolous just meant that second hand doesn't have to mean bad. If I had the money I'd have everything new! Although I do love that my boys will all have the same cot :) I'm sure that if you explain it that way to your in laws they understand (or your Dh can Wink)

FizzyBubbly · 21/11/2014 13:54

Daholster, my DD is 18months too and we're thinking about the cot to bed transition too. Think we're gonna start with changing gro bag to duvet (like you), then sides off cot, then move into a single bed so that new baby gets her cot. How have you found it so far? DD is really attached to her bags so am worried about sleepless nights.
Oh and your DH sounds like mine... instead of using nail clippers he peels his nails off and leaves them on the bedside cabinet for me!

Welcome nerdsgirl!

Congrats on the scan Rusty! With DD our sonographer kept saying 'he' but obviously we ended up with a she!

Hope your do feeling better oneday, not a nice way to start the day. And it sounds like your Bugaboo was a bargain! I love ours!

BonjourMinou · 21/11/2014 13:55

Babystyle will be at the Baby and Toddler Show - North-West in March, Bluewater (Kent) in April (although I appreciate that might be pushing it a bit) If you can hold on til then you will get a discount? xxx

Lauren82000 · 21/11/2014 14:13

Fizzy that's gross. My DH just has a fluffy fetish he is constantly picking bits off the carpet and leaving them on the mantle piece. When I asked him why he just doesn't Hoover more he said there's nothing stopping me using it. I just think he's cheeky I'm not bothered by bits on the carpet like he is but if I did the hoovering too he would just put the bins out and nothing else! Plus how am I supposed to carry it down the stairs? I'm not lifting anything remotely heavy at the moment.

StuntNun · 21/11/2014 14:14

Fizzy my two-year-old is still in a sleeping bag in his single bed. It makes it less likely that he'll get out of bed and it stops him getting cold if he wriggles around too much.

TinyTear · 21/11/2014 14:20

Like StuntNun my DD (2y10m) is in a bed with a sleeping bag. she prefers it... and she still gets out and can come to get us... she will be a champion at sack races when she is older

Had my 20 week scan and everything is ok, didn't find out the sex so we are team surprise!

Off to mothercare now to look at prams Smile

FizzyBubbly · 21/11/2014 14:43

Good news Wineandchoccy! Now enjoy your pram shopping!

That's interesting Stuntnun and Tinytear, for some reason I thought you had to get them out of the sleeping bag once the cot sides were off. Dangerous or something?? But like yours, DD is a champ at running around in hers so I'm sure we'll have no problems!
She sleeps really well at the moment so I'm not sure if we'll be creating problems by removing the sides too early (will prob use a bed guard) but I really want her settled in a single bed before April so that it doesn't seem like we're kicking her out of it for the new baby

TinyTear · 21/11/2014 14:58

Good news wine!!

We tried a couple of nights without sleeping bag, she didn't settle as well and asked for it. she was 2y3m when we moved her to her toddler bed

(it's a John Lewis Boris one - www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-boris-toddler-bedstead-white/p231331004)

So as she asked, we bought 3 toddler sleeping bags that are a bit longer and she has been quite happy.

She only fell out a few times (the first weeks we left pillows and blankets on the floor next to the bed) but sometimes rolls out and continues sleeping Grin

RiverRocks · 21/11/2014 15:24

daholster have you tried a support band? Don't know if they'd be any good, but might be worth a look if you're really struggling?

There are Blooming Marvellous ones here for £12, or Jojo Maman Bebe ones (which look like they're more supportive and have lots of very good reviews) for £24 here.

Hope this is useful.

Congratulations on the scans wine and rusty - and on being stronger than me and resisting the temptation to find out Xmas Grin

Lauren82000 · 21/11/2014 15:26

Fizzy instead of buying a bed rail why not roll a pillow and stick it under the fitted sheet, we did and it worked. She only rolled off a few times but DD is a bit of a thrasher. Just stuck some pillows on the floor for a soft landing. I know someone who used a swimming noodle in the same way. No point buying something (that never actually fits the bed properly) my friends little girl kept getting stuck between the rail and the mattress.

BonjourMinou · 21/11/2014 15:27

Great news, wine! Enjoy the pram shopping Smile I also admire the patience of all of you in Team Surprise, I Can't Not Know...

I'm getting a bit confused with how old DC's should be when the cot is transformed into a toddler bed - DD will be 18 months when the new baby is born and won't sleep without her sleeping bags - and I'm convinced if I made her sleep under a blanket she'd just wriggle her way out and get cold.

She will be in a new room in the new year - should that be in the cot still or in the toddler bed? Glad to see it's ok to keep using sleeping bags in the toddler bed.

DS3 has a foam bumper similar to this that goes under the sheet to stop him rolling out of bed.

Lauren82000 · 21/11/2014 15:58

Can't remember how old DD was when we changed her cot to a bed. Think she was about 18months, I was scared of her trying to climb out and hurt herself but I have to say she was out of sleeping bags by the time she was 1. She had fleecy feetie pjs and a blanket at first which then progressed to a cotbed duvet. Which she still has but I think is a bit thin so she has a blanket on top too. They soon learn if they get cold to snuggle back in the blanket try not to worry too much.

FizzyBubbly · 21/11/2014 16:07

Thanks everyone for the toddler bedtime advice... Now just need to summon the courage to give it a go!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/11/2014 16:10

Mine went into a bed when they started potty training 27 and 29months, so they could get out to go for a wee. They both had duvets and I'm genuinely interested how those who have sleeping bags manage with going to the loo! I have friends who's lo's climbed out of a cot and so were frightened of them hurting themselves and moved them to a bed and I babysit a 3yr old who is still in a cot. Both mine had a car bed where the mattress was slightly lower than the edge so they couldn't roll out.

Congrats wineandchoccy, enjoy your shopping :)

Fizzy no pain no gain. Give it a go if it doesn't work and DC isn't ready go back and try again a bit later on.

BonjourMinou · 21/11/2014 16:40

Interesting point about potty training, cinnamon, I'm still knee deep in nappies so hadn't thought of that! I think I will worry about it nearer the time. Don't want to make too many changes around the time the baby arrives but don't want to move her into a bed before she is ready.

smogsville · 21/11/2014 16:52

Congrats all round on good scans everyone.

On beds, I would keep your DC in cots as long you can! We only moved DD because she kept climbing out and hurting herself. Can't remember how old she was now of course everything that's already happened is a blur.

BonjourMinou · 21/11/2014 17:02

everything that's already happened is a blur

Tell me about it! I remember when DD was born she didn't know the difference between night and day and would just sleep whenever, but I honestly can't remember what it was I did to remedy this... Xmas Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 21/11/2014 17:39

Had some not great news today, consultant has seen my scan results and has referred me for a more detailed scan at addenbrookes which will be on Wednesday! Really doesn't sound like something that will sort itself out now :(

BonjourMinou · 21/11/2014 17:47

I'm sorry to hear that, cinnamon I've got all my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully they're just being extra cautious. Will be thinking of you on Wednesday. xxx
