Mine is grape!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 08/11/2014 17:13

Why is it always a fruit? we're going for jelly bean this week.

Emz1989 · 08/11/2014 17:14

Reassuring to hear some others are in the same boat! It's not that I'm hating pregnancy at all, it's just that I don't feel pregnant!
Mine is the size of a 'Maine blueberry'... Who knows how specifically big one of those is!!

htf2 · 08/11/2014 17:38

Totally agree re bonding - especially as I haven't had a baby, how am I supposed to feel attached to something when it was really hard to even get my head around that I was pregnant while I felt so normal? Once I got sick, it was a bit more 'this had better work out' because throwing up and barely getting out of bed for weeks to get no baby just wouldn't be fair! :P totally rational I know. At the 12 week scan I am going to get something from baby Gap I think and start planning. Agree emz the iceblocks sound like a great idea! I am back on real food but will have to remember them for baby #2 (pretty hard to imagine that right now!) Also ots don't blame you at all for the moan, it sounds terrible. Hard to believe they really can't help more than that, hope something works out.

Alisvolatpropiis · 08/11/2014 17:46

Why is maternity clothing so expensive?!

I don't need it yet, being all of 9 weeks, but I will do and resent how much it is going to cost me. Angry

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 08/11/2014 17:46

Argh I'm feeling guilty. I've had cold after cold for weeks now. I'm knackered and now dh is ill too. I'm doing all my parenting from the sofa with the telly on. At least dd has more excitement when I'm at work and she's at nursery but I'm not doing a good job at home right now.

WillowHouse · 08/11/2014 17:52

Just learnt a valuable lesson - if you want your pregnancy kept secret till 12 weeks don't tell your MIL and then let her get drunk at your husbands birthday party where all your friends and family are Wink

BingoBonkers · 08/11/2014 18:01

Oh no Willow!! Hope MIL is suitably embarrassed and mortified.

ememsmum · 08/11/2014 18:02

Alis I went to a NCT nearly new sale today and picked up 4 items of clothing for £10. I have a few things I can use from last time but have had to buy summery stuff. Luckily also manages to get a few bits from H&M and New Look sales. Ebay is good too.

Orville82 · 08/11/2014 18:05

Well I just gave in and booked an early scan for next Friday. I'll be 8+4 but just can't take the not knowing/living in limbo any more. I've been freaking myself out about my symptoms deserting me so would rather know sooner rather than later how everything is going. DH thinks I'm going mental but is humouring me anyway.

My best friend had an MMC and didn't know anything was wrong until her 12 week scan so was totally devastated. I can't risk that as mine will fall extremely close to/during the time DH's sister & family come to stay with us from Oz for the first time ever. Need to give myself the best possible chance to prepare.

Sorry for the morbid thoughts but it's just the way my mind is working at the moment. This baby and the timings around it just seem too good to be true right now!

Thanks em will check those out.

How exactly does maternity sizing work? Do you just buy your usual size but maternity? I do not understand!

Catypillar · 08/11/2014 18:36

Yes just buy your usual size!

I'd recommend eBay. I got nearly everything from there last time. Hoping most of it fits now- was a 10-12 then, am a 14 now.

FreeWee · 08/11/2014 19:04

Maternity sizing is supposed to work that way but doesn't for me in H&M. I'm a size 12 and had to buy size 18 jeans. Was gutted!

Facebook Buy and Sell baby items groups are great for bargains especially new born clothes as they're hardly worn. Ebay and NCT sales are the other two good places. Some stuff you'll want to buy new but other stuff you'll look back in 6 months and think "£20 for that?? We only used it once/twice"

AnythingNotEverything · 08/11/2014 19:11

Pregnancy is a really good time to start thinking in terms of a capsule wardrobe. You don't need to spend much if you spend wisely. Jeans are a great place to start. I love the H&M over the bump straight leg ones.

I seem to have lots of tube skirts from last time so will be stocking up m&s maternity tights and will buy a couple of maternity jumpers. I have a swing coat that should see me through and have summer stuff for the end from last time.

I bought loads of eBay last time, and will sell on anything in good enough condition!

I really fancy a satsuma now Smile

chicarubia · 08/11/2014 20:04

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted for a while but I have been reading the thread and found it really helpful to see that many of you have similar symptoms to me. I am almost 10 weeks now and still completely exhausted all the time. Really hoping it doesn't last much longer as I am sooo irritable and fed up! I am still eating satsumas and crisps and not being able to stomach much else due to feeling permanently queasy! I do know some of you have had it a lot worse than me- I really feel for you.

I'm really sorry to hear about the recent losses but it's great to hear from those who have had positive scan results.

I was wondering if anyone else has used One to One Midwives? They are based in Liverpool but work also in Manchester (where I live), Cheshire and Essex, I believe. They are NHS funded and sound like the gold standard for pre and post natal care. You get a personal midwife who visits you at home for all your appointments (as many as you need) as well as 6 weeks post natal support.

My GP refused to refer me to them (I think Manchester is very protectionist about its community midwives) but I was able to refer myself once I had booked into the hospital (not something the GP told me).

I'm feeling really positive about the service as I would love a home birth with the right support and One to One are very supportive about this - I haven't met my midwife yet so I hope she lives up to my expectations! It would be great to hear if anyone else has had experience of One to One?

PerpetualStudent · 08/11/2014 20:14

Fun new pregnany symptom - nosebleeds!

Im so over today, and so over the first trimester.

Im going to drive home, go to sleep and no one is to wake me until I have a whopping great bump!

AnythingNotEverything · 08/11/2014 20:16

Chica I think a friend in Sale has recently used the One to One midwife service. I think she liked it. Sounds great to me.

I seem to see one of 3/4 mw for my appointments (mostly one, others if she's on leave) and it's a bit of a pain, but also an opportunity to ask questions again and see if you get a different answer Wink

MrsExtraOrdinary · 08/11/2014 20:21

I think I'm the only one here going down the independent midwifery route. I do wish there was a free option that I could feel I could trust, alas I'm quite apprehensive after last time and feel it's my only option. Anyone else planning a home birth?

Chookford · 08/11/2014 20:35

mrsE I'm hoping for one but midwives keep telling me it would be better for me to deliver in hospital because of my graves I had my dd in hospital on their advice and it was a completely straight forward birth so I'm hoping this time I'll get to do it at home.

Chook I don't have graves, but do have fairly out of control hypothyroidism. Last time I was really quite terrified by the huge change in care and suddenly the whole thing seemed to be about patients suing if things didn't go wrong. I was told if I had a hospital birth Id have to have the fetal monitor on the babies head throughout labour. You can imagine I wasn't particularly impressed by that seeing as all my other births had been straight forward bar the first. They said Id be strapped to the bed. I would take advice on it chook. I've been hypothyroid for 18 years and it's not affected any of my 5 babies. And hopefully not the 6th either.

Chookford · 08/11/2014 21:04

Yeah that's my thoughts too mrsE everything was fine with my dd and I gavd been stable with my thyroxine for 6 yrs now do my gut feeling is I will be fine, so will have to have some discussions with midwives and consultants, this will be my last baby so I want to do it how I want to do it!!

Wow. Spent the last ten days boasting to anyone who would listen that now my anaemia is under control I am completely symptom free and wow, what a wonderful pregnancy I am having, I just threw up my dinner in the kitchen sink. Nice. Suspect the half glass of cider I had with it was mostly to blame but must remember not to be so smug in future.

Still not as bad as most so not really complaining but very odd - one minute feeling fine, next minute I leant over to turn up the volume on the telly and - oop - here it comes.

Think DP was more concerned about missing crucial moments of Dr Who than my health.
