Hope it gets sorted soon MGFM, and it's nothing too serious.
Scan all fine, having a boy. Time to shop for some boyish nappies.

DurhamRed · 30/10/2014 16:52

Hi all, had good day today. Scan went very well baby is doing fine and behaved very well. We are having a little girl! Grin

After scan we went pram and car seat shopping and have ordered the Silver Cross Wayfarer...can't wait for it to arrive!

junkfoodaddict · 30/10/2014 20:12

Congratulations Durham!
The Silver Cross Wayfarer was on my list of choices (2nd favourite) but went with the Graco Evo instead. I had a Silver Cross Linear Freeway last time and would have used that if I still had it!

Saw my GP today who gave me a further 4 weeks sick leave. I thought I was ready to return but GPs have a clever way of asking questions that make you question your own judgement and clearly I am not ready. My insomnia is caused by work stress. I wake up suddenly and can't get back to sleep because work is on my mind. I keep imagining my SLTs reaction to my return, arguments, negative comments being hurled at me, being 'watched' and tripped up - all negative stuff that I am trying to bury at the back of my mind. It's my mind in overdrive but it shows the level of anxiety and concern I have. The only solutions I see are:

  1. Talk to the Head Teacher about my concerns and see if we can come to an agreement over how to best alleviate and manage my anxiety and concerns.
  2. Leave
GP also said that if needs be, I shall be kept on sick leave until I go on maternity leave - that is another 16 weeks away!! Which means potentially I would have had 19 of my 26 week entitlement. I really want to get back but need to find the path that allows me to return with a strong head on my shoulders.
ZylaB · 30/10/2014 20:45

You sick leave doesn't come off your maternity entitlement junk
All that happens is if you're off in the 4 weeks before your due date they can make you start mat leave then. I've been signed off for 10 ish weeks already and don't see it changing anytime soon. Don't stress over it, you have much more important things to concentrate on -your lovely little one!

BlueberryWafer · 30/10/2014 21:00

I've been signed off since 8 weeks and I am now 20 weeks (hoping to be back in the next couple of weeks) and this won't affect my maternity entitlement whatsoever (I checked!) so try not to worry Smile

Guntons · 30/10/2014 21:03

Place marking so I can catch up on new thread! Smile

MrsJonSnow · 30/10/2014 21:27

junkfoodaddict Ahhh - that makes sense! I had a mental image of you drinking contaminated water from a well! Grin
Funnily enough, I think I'm suffering the same thing! Off to grab some Ural and cranberry juice this morning Sad

MGFM I haven't read all of this link, but I've heard of a lot of people having success with non-surgical gall-bladder management. This was just the first google response and seemed like it might be worth a look? healthwyze.org/index.php/component/content/article/206-holistically-and-naturally-treating-gallstones-gallbladder-attacks-and-what-you-can-do-about-them-without-getting-butchered-by-a-surgeon.html

lotsoftoast · 31/10/2014 05:32

mgfm - surgery doesn't mean you cant breastfeed, don't worry about that element of it.

Glad you are signed off again junk, the way you've been treated by your work is ridiculous

Scan day today! So nervous Sad but excited too. Do you need a full bladder for 20 week scan? I remember having to empty my bladder with ds as he was being awkward and facing the wrong way, but I can't remember if I needed a full bladder in the first place?

Gudgyx · 31/10/2014 09:03

That's the only thing I don't like about scans, having to go in with full bladder. So uncomfortable!

Also mgfm, I had surgery on 2nd June (they actually did a test before the surgery and it come up negative, must have been too soon to get a positive, but I know I was pregnant, as we didn't have sex for a good 4 or 5 weeks after the surgery). Everything is fine and the GA didn't effect baby at all. It was bowel related, so not exactly a million miles away from where baby was.

pinkandstripey · 31/10/2014 10:59

Yes you need a full bladder. I got told off as I didn't drink before 20 week scan. At 12 week scan I got sent out to empty my bladder as it was too full! Can't win. Have half a pint of water before you go to hospital, should be fine :)

I wonder if the full bladder thing is different for different hospitals? I had an empty bladder yesterday for my 20 week scan (i still can't drink enough to fill bladder...to much fluid and i vomit) and sonographer didn't say anything about it. Was the same for my 12 weeks scan too and didn't effect either scan.

lotsoftoast · 31/10/2014 13:06

No full bladder needed here either

coastergirl · 31/10/2014 14:56

I didn't have a full bladder for an early scan I had at 8.5 weeks or my 12 week scan and both were fine. haven't got a letter for the 20 week scan as it was booked in person after the previous scan and nothing was said about a full bladder. Got mine on Monday and I can't wait.

Butterpuff · 31/10/2014 15:57

I didn't have a full bladder for 20 week. Felt somewhere between smug and guilty as the two girls in the waiting room with me were so tiny I suspect they were on the 12 week and were squirming in their seats desperate for the loo.

M27J5M · 31/10/2014 16:05

My mw told me I didn't need a full bladder, a small glass of water is enough as drinking too much can actually make it more difficult, I've just had a small amount before all 3 scans and all have been fine

BlueberryWafer · 31/10/2014 17:13

I drank some full sugar fanta half an hour before and it have the baby hiccups and made it wriggle around loads Grin got some really good scan pics!

MGFM · 31/10/2014 17:30

So, went to the hospital this morning. They took me down for a scan and I they insisted I go in the wheel chair! I felt like an idiot! Anyway the woman doing the ultra sound looked about 21 years old! She said she couldn't see any stones. Then she thought she could see Polyps but she wasn't sure and asked someone else who also looked about 20 years old. She wasn't sure either. I then went upstairs and waited to see the consultant. I spoke to the junior doctor and told her the whole story of the pain. Then she brought the middle ranking doctor and I had to pretty much repeat it the whole thing to him. He said he would go ad speak to the consultant and come up with a plan. The consultant comes over and I have to repeat the whole thing again to her. She examined me briefly and then said, well it looks like we will have to take out your gall bladder! I was like wohoa! Hold on a minute. The ultra sound said there were no stones. She said well they arent that accurate. Anyway, I said I wanted a second scan with a specialist and she said that wasn't necessary. She was really rude and I felt like I had been told off! The other doctors told me not to worry about it and that is just the way she is. hmmm any way the new plan is to try and adjust my diet a little bit to see if that helps with the pain and they are booking me in for another scan with the gastro intestinal specialist to have another look. Apparently if I don't have the surgery before the end of the 2nd trimester it is too dangerous to do it in the third trimester.

The issue with post pregnancy is the morphine I think. You can't BF when taking morphine.

Anyway the co-codomal the GP gave me says 'NOT TO BE TAKEN WHEN PREGNANT' so I am still on paracetamol. I might have to talk to work about easing back in the afternoon when the pain is at its worst.

Anyway sorry for the long post! I have a whole tub of sweets for all the trick or treaters!

MGFM i was given morphine whilst breast feeding after dd was born by c section. and was given morphine in recovery after my spinal anesthetic wore of during my c section again i was breastfeeding in fact ds was on the breast when they gave me morphine in recovery. fully expecting to be given it this time too

Jannywannywoohoo · 01/11/2014 00:36

MGFM how far along are you? I meant to comment way back on your original post as I have been suffering the same thing too... I was badly constipated and found that eating really brought on the pain especially if I was sat upright at the table (we were away on hols and eating out quite a bit). I had to lie on my side to aleaviate the pain with a heat pack on my ribs. I mentioned it to the MW and was told it's common in pregnancy, I had a phone consultation with my doc and was told it was probably trapped wind. Gaviscon was suggested Hmm

I'm now 22 weeks along and have found the pain is loads less frequent, I stopped taking the pregnacare vits and since then have not had any problems with my constipation. So maybe it was trapped wind, I don't know? Before they rush you in to surgery see if diet can help! I feel it worst if I eat too much. I don't know if this helps you but I do know how painful it has been for me and I'm so glad to feel like I'm almost over it now.

FruitySalad · 01/11/2014 07:36

Morning, exciting week coming up, I'm 20 weeks on Monday (half way celebration - without fizz) and have my scan on Friday - equally excited and petrified.

Great to hear about everyone's scans, Im going to try the fanta diet pre scan (not that I need much excuse to drink fanta at the moment)!

I feel a bit behind as I've no idea about nappies or prams - had better get a shake on! What are the top choice prams - I'm a complete novice!

Attended aqua yoga for the first time which was relaxing and stretchy, imagine it will be lovely when the bump turns from bloat to baby!

Before I forget, my stats for adding -
First baby, 35yrs, edd 23.3.15, Edinburgh

I'm away to start googling prams Smile
