BENDYB · 13/10/2006 12:58

yeah dont go crawling back 2 him!!! i just think men find it hard 2 understand how we r feelin at the mo, my dp does anyway. Try & talk 2 him properly later, try make him understand more! i've gotta go out now but chat 2 ya later, xxx

nowanearlyNicemum · 13/10/2006 13:10

congratulations Rumpel, Amber's a lovely name.

sorry to hear your dp is stressing you out youngmum. it's such a tough time with hormones completely up the spout, isn't it?

still nothing new to report here - except that I can now barely sit down as I have the most horrendous piles. sorry for tmi. really, the sooner this lo puts in an appearance the better...

clon · 13/10/2006 13:49

Congratulations Rumpel, I love the name Amber.

Keep your chin up youngmum, my hormones in the last month have gone haywire and I think men find it hard to deal with, I was blubbling to the Westlife song the other day - good grief!!! I feel lucky that my dh is very supportive but he still comes out with crass comments like when he got home last night and remarked that the kitchen floor could do with a sweep - yes he is still alive I was able to bite my tongue!

I feel exhausted these last few days and find it hard to muster the energy for anything, anoyone else feel like that?

Gingeme · 13/10/2006 15:00

Yes clon I do. Ive had a couple of good nights sleep, well been sleeping in between loo visits and my heartburn has calmed down alot but I just feel so exhausted all the time. CONGRATULATIONS RUMPLE Another girl to add to the stats. Maybe we should start taking some bets as to how many girls vs boys are going to arrive this month.
Yes men can be a bit blind when it comes to hormones etc. My dh has decided its ok for his son to come and stay with us on his birthday(babys due date). Dont think so somehow. Mind you hes always been Daddys boy and when my last ds was born he said to dh'This means Im not your baby anymore!'. Grow up ffs. And on that note Im off to make the beds up for my 2 ds's who will be arriving here about 4. So take care ladies. xxx

Swizzler · 13/10/2006 15:50

Youngmum: so sorry you're having a rough time. Hope things improve.

Have a great weekend Gingeme. Are your DSs excited about the baby?

Congratulations Runpel!

Have just been out of the flat for the first time since coming home - only to the corner shop and back but it felt like an Antarctic expedition!

Gingeme · 13/10/2006 17:18

Thanks swizzler. Yes they are axcited about the new baby. They have given their Dad strict instructions to bring them straight here when he arrives.
Weird isnt it your first time out after baby? You walk all slow and carefuly hoping its all ok. Remembering a few weeks ago you were wishing your lo would arrive so you could walk at a normal pace again! You sound like your doing realy well so far though. You seem to have taken to motherhood like a duck to water.
Cant wait till we can arrange our Dec meet up and see all the little cute bundles.
Dh and I have been discussing his snip. Hes definately having one. The family planning clinic is right next to the maternity block so as soon as our baby is here hes goign to make his appt.
Anyway have a good weekend all. xxxx

DogMum · 13/10/2006 17:25

OMG Gingeme - thinking about contraception already. I'm going to have to sit down with my nieces. I'm sure they know more about it than I do these days. (That's of course assuming I'll ever want to have sex again.) Have a lovely weekend with your DSs.

Gingeme · 13/10/2006 17:33

Well dogmum I was gonna get sterilised but I know of 2 of my cousins who have been and they both have gone on to have more babies. Besides after my appendectimy 5 weeks after ds3 i think its his turn to go through it. Though its nothing compared to what we go through. He definately doesnt want anymore children. Oh and neither do I !!!!

Swizzler · 13/10/2006 17:44

Thanks Gingeme: certainly don't feel like I knowwhat I'm doing! I'm lucky in that W is pretty placid, apart from hating being out down. Still getting thw hang of bfing - not sure he's emptying the boob as he feeds really quickly (and everty hour at the mo). It does hurt to walk tho - stitches plus wobbly pelvis means I must look deformed limping along

Gingeme · 13/10/2006 18:46

Carry on as you are swizzler it will fall into place in the end. Just keep calm and remember to take a step back every now and then. It may all seem a haze at the moment but when you can stand back and think'I did that!' its all worth it.

LeilaB · 13/10/2006 19:40

I hope people don't mind me posting this message here. I realise that everyone must be very excited, anxious and tired (and probably many more things) all at once. But I am getting a little worried about finding a suitable mother and baby willing to let me observe them in their home.
My name is Leila and as well as working at Great Ormond Street Hospital I am doing an Infant Observation course at the Tavistock Clinic NHS and as part of it I need to observe a baby and mother (or father) for 1 hour per week for around 2 years to observe the development of the baby.

It is important that I observe a very newly born, hopefully due in October or November and lives in Central, North London. I live in Islington.

I have many friends and relatives, who are having babies, but unfortunately it has to be someone I don't know, hence the random message here.

It is a rather big commitment but on the course we have heard from mothers who have taken part in the past and who spoke of enjoying the routine of someone coming at such set times and others spoke of the experience enabling them to remember their child's development more themselves after... The past development studies have always relied on people being generous and willing to give there time like this and I would be very very grateful.

Feel free to contact me to think about it or discuss or we could meet to discuss, my e-mail is [email protected] and then I can send more detailed info and exchange numbers if anyone is willing to help.
I can supply letters, references etc

Thank you for reading this
Leila

Gemmitygem · 13/10/2006 20:10

Hi ladies!

A very quick birth announcement!

Darius Jonathan was born Saturday night at 11 20 pm after 50 hours of contractions that only got me to 5 cm, epidural that only worked on one side, Synotocin, shouting match with horrible doctor (a different one from the other horrible one), roaring like a lion and calling for my clarins oil in the delivery room!!!!

BUT had an intact perineum and painless delivery (as epidural had numbed my bits), so am so happy about that.

Darius is so beautiful! He was quite weeny (6 pound 2) and a bit blue at first, but is now very cheeky, feeding well and quite calm.

After the horrendous doctors that was all made up for by the lovely lovely midwives in the hospital in Antwerp, 5 days of being helped with breastfeeding, helped with all aspects of baby care like how to swaddle etc, they were absolutely amazing.

We got back home yesterday, due to his early arrival my DH has till the end of October here, so that's great.

We're over the moon! (but a bit knackered)

will try and catch up properly with everyone's news, greatest of congrats to those who have popped and bon courage to those who are waiting: it will all be worth it!

nowanearlyNicemum · 13/10/2006 20:54

many many congratulations Gemmitygem!!
we were hoping that as all had gone quiet, you were having your little one. you and dh have a lovely time bonding with Darius - and hope being with the inlaws isn't too stressful. let us know how you're getting on

have been having really strong contractions again for the past 5 hours but nothing regular. getting a little bored of it now to be honest. made dp give the baby a stern talking to this evening so we'll see whether that makes the slightest bit of difference

majormoo · 13/10/2006 21:01

Congratulations Gemmitgem. You were right then that you had spotted his tackle!! Birth sounds a bit stressful, but glad the postnatal care was good. 5 days-fantastic!

Congratulations as well Rumpel. Amber is a great name.

Swizzler- I remember so clearly that first walk out with DD it is so daunting. You do sound like you are taking it all in your stride though.

NNNM-sympathise about the piles. When I had them a month or so ago, it was agony.

Youngmum, hope you have patched with up with DH. It is a tough time-there is a lot of pressure in a way on both of you when such a big change in your lives is looming.

Gingeme-I am impressed you can think about contraception as well! I remember last time when the midwife mentioned it, I looked at her aghast at the thought of ever having sex again!

Talking of sex, it has done no good whatsoever in starting my labour. Raspberry leaf tea, sex, pineapple, curry and none of them are doing anygood. Also walked a long way today but that hasn't done the trick. Don't want to be induced again this time, so willing this baby out. My children are obviously lazy b*ggers and are content to stay snuggled in the warm being fed and watered!!

BENDYB · 13/10/2006 21:03

Hope everyone else is feeling ok xx

Rumpel · 13/10/2006 21:22

Nicand2 -yes, sorry to tell you labour was horrific! I had my homeopathic kit, aromatherapy oils etc, wanted a water birth with just gas and air - HO HO! Started contractions at 12.30am on Monday night/Tuesday morning, Amber was born at 14.18 on Wednesday afternoon.
Was 3cm when admitted on Tuesday night. Used Tens, which was really good, until I was about 5cm, then gas and air, then went in pool. In pool was soo painful, I was one of those screaming hysterical women you hear about, I was sobbing like a 5 year old. Apparently I was in the pool for 5 hours ( I lost the plot completely due to pain), the rubbish midwife was telling me to push, even though I wasn't examined, and she was shouting at me. When she went on her break a nice midwife suggested getting out the pool to be examined and alternative pain relief. When examined I hadn't dilated any more in all those hours! Had diamorphine, which made me vomit, then they said they were going to break my waters, by this point I was crying for an epidural! Midwife went all 'cold' and I was wheeled to medical unit. EPIDURALs ROCK! [GRIN] Bloody fantastic. As it turns out my contractions were ineffective and erratic, so they had to put me on syntocin, finally managed to push her out (after they threatened me with forceps/episiotomy) didn't feel any pain 'cos of epidural. Vomited like mad with syntometrine, umbilical cord snapped and had to go to theatre to have a manual removal of the placenta and be stitched up - it was great!! Still you might be okay - maybe your contractions will be good and maybe baby will turn their head for you - fingers crossed.

I felt like a 'failure' when I had the epidural and cried, but at the end of the day it was too painful and I would have needed one anyway to remove the placenta. Just go in with an open mind as you don't know how things will go. it hasn't put me off having another child - just next time I would get an epidural as soon as the pain got too much. No point being a martyr. Well done to all those who manange on gas/air and 'natural'.

Another wee tip - take some lactulose into hospital as painkillers make you really constipated and constipation with stitches and sore ladybits is AGONY .

Sorry for long whingy post and good luck to you all. It does make it all worthwhile when you cuddle up to your GORGEOUS wee baby you made!

totallyfloaty35 · 13/10/2006 21:43

Hi ladies,i had my little girl on thurs at 2;18pm. We are calling her Lexie.I ended up in hospital too,got to 9cm and no further 3hrs later had reverted to 8cm so had to go in,which was fine as was screaming for epidural by then,it was lovely had mobile epidural and pushed her out 4hrs later...i did end up with a 3rd degree tear though, all the way to the rectum, loads of stiches,so i walk funny now but hey she was worth itoh she weighs 7lb12oz

girlygale1 · 13/10/2006 21:58

Congratulations everyone - crickey it feels like I'll be the last on on this thread!!!

Youngmum - you have my total sympathy, I just hope that you and he can sort things soon.

Gingeme - I wasn't aware you were a step mum too - how old is your step son? Do you get on? My step son is 10 and we have our moments! Do you have any tips?

We spent most of last night putting up the bunk bed for dd and step son to share until lo is old enough to go into the bed and will eventually share with dd - finished about 11.30 then one of our friends called in a state as he has just found out his wife has been unfaithful. He stayed here the night, we were all up until 2 am talking this morning, then I got up to dd to take her to playschool, and instead of getting all the housework I needed to do done whilst she was at school I sat listening to him. So have just finished cleaning the whole house, all I need to do is hoover tommorrow morning now!! I'm knackered!!!!!!

Had very strong pains last night - thought this was it ... is it heck!!! Probably just wind! Still fat, still fed up!!!!

Sorry for long post !

youngmum21 · 13/10/2006 22:08

well done totally xx

catgirl · 14/10/2006 06:08

congrats Rumpel, Gemmitygem and Totally - all wonderful news - feels like it is bringing me closer to me having my baby when you all have one! All beautiful names too.

Geingme - have a great weekend surrounded by your boys! Someone at my ante-natel yoga last night (who is a photographer) was offering to do maternity shots for free, for her portfolio -how funny is that - had to admit I am already having it done this week.

Youngmum - hope you can sort it out with your dp, it is a difficult time for everyone I think.

Everyone else - wishing you good weekends, going to try and go back to bed now - woke up so hungry that I had to get up, and of course, had to check this thread while eating!

Have my 38 week check on Monday - looking forward to that as haven't seen a midwife since 34 weeks - neglected second child this is!

Swizzler · 14/10/2006 06:21

Congratulations Gemmitygem and Rumpel!

Rumpel: you are not a failure for having an epidural - you did what was necessary to get your healthy baby.

W fussing and feeding all night - hope it's just a blip! He's calm and snoozing now, though.

No news from Emzickle: hope all is well.

Tip for those planning to bf: get loads of breast pads as you really get throug them! Ditto for maternity pads.

BENDYB · 14/10/2006 06:55

congratulations totally, lexie is a gorgeous name.
really hope u & dp sort things out youngmum, maybe u'll get a chance 2 talk 2 him properly 2day.
have a good day every1! xxx

whiffy · 14/10/2006 09:20

Congrats Gemmity, Totally & Rumpel. Love all the names.

Gemmity/Totally/3kids - it seems like a lifetime ago that we all started posting on the original thread back in early Feb. What a journey since then. Wish FirstNicki and the others were also here to celebrate. Hope you enjoy your babies as much as I'm enjoying Hannah (after a fashion of course - not so good at 2 am). And Gemmity - I trust that the formula milk in Kazakhstan is not made from horses
