Hi longest -it's not my story but my sisters 2nd and 3rd labours were very fast.
Especially her 3rd - her ds was born around 45 mins after her contractions started. Luckily it was an induction and she was in the right place.

speedbird17 · 08/11/2014 09:18

Longest I have a really positive birth story with DD - I could PM you if you like? I had a v flexible birth plan with an idea of what I'd like 'where possible'. It is always good to hear the good with the bad as it prepares you for everything not just worst case which can cause anxiety!

mumxof3x · 08/11/2014 09:22

No mine have been relatively slow, well ds1 was 4hours (induction) and ds2(spontanious) was sunday-friday and ds3(spontanious) went on a week. Must have a womb that doesnt want to let go x

mumxof3x · 08/11/2014 09:25

But must add while they was long I enjoyed been at home doing what I wanted in my own comfort and it gave me a chance to get used to the pain in a way, tens machiene in this time was great.

Crikey we will be needing thread 4 soon :) x

Mslad · 08/11/2014 10:06

Anaesthetic! I forgot about that! Thanks Lina that's really reassuring Smile

LinaDee · 08/11/2014 11:24

Sorry mslad - your post made me lol!

Can't believe we are all talking about labour already! I'm only 15 weeks!

My energy us definitely starting to come back though.
Getting excited about the 'C word' and really want to get stuck into the house and get it all organised and ready for the months ahead!

mumxof3x · 08/11/2014 11:51

Only 15 lol I wish I was 15...12+4 here booo, ds3 was 2wk early I hope this one follows suit haha, my birthday is on june 1st its possible I could be quite overdue on it...i really hope that dont happen x

longestlurkerever · 08/11/2014 11:58

Thanks speed. Good to hear your birth was positive too. The only reason I didn't go for an epidural is that I was scared of staying on the labour ward! If I gave birth in the birth centre dh and I could stay in a room to ourselves but it's gas and air only there. For some reason a lack of privacy bothered me even more than pain. Is probably something hormonal. it happened I gave birth at 6am and was home in the evening.

Had my booking in appointment yesterday. My midwife is new but seems nice. She has referred me to the dr for 16 week check though because of miscarriage history so I don't see her again till 28 weeks. Seems like aeons away.

Royalsteph · 08/11/2014 12:14

with DC1 I had a very long emotional labour and let dignity get in the way of getting in the pool and moving around. with DC2 I had my waters broken at 13 days over and the labour was quite short. this time my dignity is going to stay at the door and I hope to have a water birth. hopefully I won't go nearly two weeks over with this one but I'm not holding my breath. I'm glad we have this group so I can read of other woman's labour experiences. thank you x

Mslad · 08/11/2014 12:58

As a first timer I love hearing the positive stories, so keep them coming!

mum I'm only 12+4 too! (although when I was around week 7, or 8 I would have given anything to be week 12!). For those a bit further ahead, are you feeling better yet? I'm still so tired and headachy, can't wait for it to lift.

Im hoping for water birth this time too really hope I get one, although ivr been told I am not allowed to birth in the pool just labour argh but ohh well. As long as im not hooked up to a monitor the whole birth itl do.

Yes me too mslad it does go quite quick though I find, each week seems to be flying. and way I see it is babies 'normal' delivery time is anywhere between 37-42wks.

speedbird17 · 08/11/2014 13:31

I laboured in a big bath as no pools were free, I wanted to birth out of water anyway so I wasn't too bothered by that! Went into labour at 5am, called at 6am and they told me to stay at home a bit longer or go in for assessment but likely I'd be sent home, got in at 7am and was 4cm so got my own room right away! Was in the bath for 2 1/2 hours and then felt I need to get out, once I did my waters broke, felt I needed to push, was over 9cm and dd was born 21 minutes later at 1317, I had gas and air for my 4 stitches but it made me feel a bit sick.. My glow was definitely once she was born :)

Mslad · 08/11/2014 13:56

Unfortunately mum I don't feel like time is flying at all, I feel like it's stood still since my bfp. That's probably down to my own personal situation though.

What is the benefit of a water birth, is it supposed to be less painful? (sorry for stupid question!).

Kyz · 08/11/2014 14:21

Afternoon all! Feeling pretty rubbish today, but hey ho!

thankyou for ds's happy birthday kitty :)

Aw speedbird I totally sympathise, we're all bunged up here and I haven't had much sleep for the past week because DS keeps waking up full of it and I struggle to sleep when I have a blocked nose. Hope you get better soon

That's good news lina

lovely scan pic snooky!

make sure you get that checked out tits won't you

I'm still ignoring the labour bits, I'm not even 12 weeks yet and don't want to go there just yet! The only thing I have thought about is I am contemplating a birthing pool, I think. It's good reading all of your stories though :) My labour was ok, my breastfeeding help and experience not so much. I say ok, ds was back to back and it was agony, and I had one or several stitches. Tip to anyone who has stitches, DO NOT LOOK. I looked. I was told not to. I looked like I had a frankenfanny. Never again will I look if I have stitches. It's all fine now, for those wondering, but when you first look it doesn't look like it'll ever be fine ever again!!!

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/11/2014 14:22

After being induced with DS1 with an epidural and 11 hr labour and 3rd degree tear and lots of sickness, I was pleasantly surprised by a 16 minute spontaneous labour with DS2 at 36 weeks, although he had his cord knotted in a true knot around his neck so he needed a bit of encouragement to take those first breaths.
DS3 was 8 minutes start to finish! Shock Hence why I'm being given a home birth kit to keep just incase and being admitted and induced at 38 weeks.

Snooky17 · 08/11/2014 14:54

Kyz lol just spat a mouthful of tea (decaff of course) all over my screen at your frankenfanny comment.
My first labour was induced 10 hours gas and air, pethedine and episiotomy, 2nd back to back labour 26 hours gas and air and pethedine, small tear, 3rd 6 hrs gas and air and pethedine no stitches needed. Der recommend a yoga ball or similar bouncing on that helped get dc3 in right position to avoid back to back labour, it is quite hurty lol.
Tits wow 8 minute labour ! Go you !

2preteendramaqueens · 08/11/2014 16:54

I did lol at the frankenfanny Smile my labours were ok
Dd1 waters broke 2 1/2 weeks early in the middle of the night weds I thought I'd wet the bed fri had pessarys (sp) still no labour sat am hormone drip sat pm more hormone dd arrived at 6.30 pm sat after 9 1/2hrs weighing 7lb 5 1/2 oz only gas and air

Dd2 2 weeks late pessarys thurs 4pm Born at 12.58 pm same day had shoulder. Dys thing where they get stuck 10lb 6oz only gas and air again and no stitches Blush I had to give birth on the ward as when they induced me they didn't realise how busy they were Hmm
I'm hoping I go in natural this time and get a water birth Smile

longestlurkerever · 08/11/2014 17:31

mslad I did find it gave a lot of pain relief, yes, and relaxed me. I didn't quite give birth in the water though. Not sure how it's less dignified than the alternatives. Aren't they all a bit cringey really? Walking around was another reason I liked the birth centre though. My room was huge so I could pace up and down without venturing into the outside world.

mumxof3x · 08/11/2014 17:33

Wow tits thats unreal :o

Im not sure about how much pain waterbirths take off mslad, the hot baths in labour didnt do much for my pain lol, but I think there meant to relax you more..i just want one as ive. Had 3 rather medical births ds3 wasnt too bad but still was on constant monitor and i.v antibiotics throught had to remain on the bed. I would have cosidered home birth but, they have said that could be risky for me and have to have a cannular inserted still in labour, so just want it as relaxing and me in control as possible this time. Xx

mumxof3x · 08/11/2014 17:34

Oh longest that is good to hear that it does help with pain :) x

longestlurkerever · 08/11/2014 17:39

tits it sounds a bit scary! Did you it to the hospital? My worry is that I need to make sure dd is looked after before I can head to hospital. No real reason to think it'll be a massive rush it's just that my first birth was quicker than average. Gosh it feels good to be thinking about all this stuff. For the past 18 months I have been increasingly feeling like I would never get there. Not out of the woods yet but ferling positive for the first time in ages.

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/11/2014 18:20

I was in hospital on the antenatal ward both times luckily, although for other reasons. It was scary and I'm terrified of doing it at home unexpectedly but it can't be helped, if it happens it happens, the hospital have talked me through what to do and who to call and what they'll be doing in the background, so although I'm scared at least I'm informed if that makes sense.

Hopefully being induced (and by induced I mean, pessary then being left to do my own thing, no waters broken for me or drips) at 38 weeks, I can hedge my bets that I won't labour any earlier at home.

Snooky17 · 08/11/2014 18:42

The baby start pregnancy pillow and wedge are on offer at £11.99 in argos at the mo, normally £16.99, not sure about reviews tho not got that far

CostaLotta · 08/11/2014 21:06

Frankenfanny Grin

Wow Tits, 8 minutes! That must have been a shock. Hope you get the birth you want this time.

I had a good labour/ birth with DS, was 16 hours from waking up with contractions at 2am to giving birth at 6pm but I felt like it flew by. Stayed at home til about 12, was 6cm when I got to hospital, had some G&A while pool was sorted out, once I got in the pool I felt so much more relaxed and didn't need any pain relief. Pushed for quite a while but didn't find pushing painful, just hard work! DS born with cord around neck but no problems they just slipped it off. Had a few hours of wonderful skin to skin time and went home about 10pm. Hoping for a home waterbirth this time (if I can get DH on board). I didn't hear a single positive birth story when I was pregnant first time, people love to tell you how awful it all is. I thought it was the most amazing, wonderful day of my life and I can't wait to do it again! That feeling when you meet your baby is.... Indescribable.
