Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Tiny I feel for you, the best bit of toddlers being ill is all the cuddles (Münchhausen's? Moi?), so not being there is tough.

Spoke to midwife who hasn't heard of bellybutton pain, so wants me to get checked out by GP. I have an appointment at 10.45. Not quite the reassurance I was expecting...

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 11/11/2014 10:19

tanny (waves back) I also get belly button pain and have done for the whole of the second trimester so far, my midwife said I was just weird Shock and that it was possibly just the baby wriggling against a nerve or something, so try not to panic you are probably just a weirdo like me Grin hopefully your gp will be more helpful than the midwife was.

I also have very damp knickers, I was driving myself crazy checking every 5mins so started using panty liners that way I can see what colour the discharge is (sorry far far tmi Blush) its stopped me rushing to the loo constantly.

tiny my charges often complain of earache when poorly and have never had an ear infection, their gp told me that sometimes when theres a virus it can cause slight swelling in the ear canal, causing pain without infection so to use painkillers ie calpol, which you are anyway for the temperature. That might explain why shes responding to nurofen.

TinyTear · 11/11/2014 10:27

Thanks smiling that is why we gave Nurofen instead of calpol as it's anti-inflammatory...

she had ear infections when very little but not for over a year... I just worry as when I was young I had loads of ear infections and even had surgery for grommets when I was 4...

I just ignore the discharge... it's par for the course... I ignore it now but do use lighter pants to see the colour instead of my trusted black... Grin

I got my quadruple test results today: less than 1 in 10,000 chance of Down's. I'm actually really glad I had it done now as at 38 it is a bit more likely. The consultant and midwives seemed a bit critical of me wanting to have the test, one even asked me whether I'd go to England for an abortion! What's wrong with just wanting to know your risk without planning to do anything about it?

LIG1979 · 11/11/2014 11:01

Good news stuntman

Tiny that sounds tough travelling that much. I used to travel a lot but usually it was a few days. One guy I worked with went to a meeting in Australia that was cancelled whilst he was flying. He was so mad especially as work made him fly back the next day to go to Sweden so was there for less than 12 hours. Luckily now I don't travel too much and can usually do it on my own terms. I did go to Beijing and Shanghai in May which was really good. Glad dd is doing better - they can often get inflamed ears which don't need antibiotics and just go on their own accord. (My dd generally got ill with each tooth and after a febrile convulsion, I spent a lot of the time at the dr getting every temperature investigated.) #

Little I didn't use my baby on board badge and luckily the trains/tube were too busy so I got seats all the way which was good. I hate using my badge so generally avoid the tube if I am unwell.

Enjoying my train journey although wanted to watch a film but my headphones don't work - at least I will do more work now. Driving back later too so will get delivered to my door.

LondonSuperTrooper · 11/11/2014 11:19

Tiny I hope that DD feels better soon. It's horrible when they are ill, especially when they are so little.

LIG I do not envy your travelling. This was my main reason of changing jobs - got sick of all the travelling and juggling child care. This new job doesn't require travelling - well that's what they said. Now I find out that they want me to go to India in January.... no chance of that once I tell them that I'm pregnant Grin And no chance of us getting a cleaner - we simply can't afford it. I'm trying to talk DH into getting a gardener as we desperately need one - our front and back gardens are a mess!

Tanny what did the GP say? I get all sorts of niggling pain but it tends to go away after a few hours (after a mad dash to the loo to check my knickers!).

Stuntman good news on your results. The comments that the consultant and midwife said made me smile - for all the wrong reasons!

TinyTear · 11/11/2014 11:23

Stunt good news! dont they realise sometimes you just want to be prepared?

LIG fortunately all my work travel is in Europe. I'd hate to do longhaul... not glamorous at all, a lot of the time you see the airport, the client's office or conference room, hotel and that is it... although I have had afternoons in Barcelona, Milan and a few hours in Cologne

And I love my badge, use it all the time in the tube... and when pregnant with DD even wore it at a festival so people would be more careful if I needed to go and sit at the back...

TinyTear · 11/11/2014 11:27

London have you been keeping the secret? When can you do the big reveal?

little how are you doing? ready to go and lie in the garden for some fresh air?

OP posts:
smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 11/11/2014 11:28

Good news stunt nothing wrong with wanting to be prepared. Hows things going with your dh?

Im very glad I dont have to travel for work, years ago I worked for a high profile family and travelled alot, I enjoyed it at the time but now im happy to work for a normal family and go home every night.

TinyTear · 11/11/2014 11:33

High profile? any goss? Grin

OP posts:
tannyLoo · 11/11/2014 11:48

I'm back, and nothing to report, just a pregnancy niggle. Paracetamol might help and come back if anything changes etc...

Phew!

My job seems totally unglamorous, unless you count going to Taunton and Glastonbury... I did fly to Edinburgh once for a meeting, and was the envy of my team!

My DH is the cleaner at the moment, and the slug trails across the floor every morning are not going with the same rapidity as in my pre-pg days! The garden is a shambles of half started projects and kids toys, mixed with Alan, the grumpy rabbit, escape artist extraordinaire. In general, chaos is our family friend.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 11/11/2014 11:48

No gossip my lips are sealed Wink

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 11/11/2014 11:51

Glad its nothing to worry about tanny

I have the solution to all your housework issues, ill send my mil to you, we can set up a rota and you can have her for a week each Grin

TinyTear · 11/11/2014 11:52

Spoilsport! Grin

Glad it's all ok tanny

OP posts:
LondonSuperTrooper · 11/11/2014 13:25

Tiny No idea of when to tell my line manger of my pregnancy. I think I look pregnant and to me it's so obvious!

Tanny Glad that all is well with you.

Smiling you can't drop a bombshell like that and not give us a tiny weeny bit of gossip Wink. Did you sign a confidentiality clause?

LittleBairn · 11/11/2014 13:51

stuntman that is really outrageous! If you have the right to the test you should also have the right to have it without judgement.

Tiny Grin I'm a bit wild with cabin fever sometimes I open the back door but then I have to close it because the light hurts my eyes!
Feeling a bit sore today and just trying to relax and ignore it. Its difficult because I'm so on edge I know once things kickoff the window of being able to save the baby with a stitch is so small I'm worried I won't notice/react fast enough.

tanny my backgarden and drive way are a mess its really embarrassing but DH just doesn't have the time to deal with it so it will be like that until spring. I'm hoping for a lot of snow to make it pretty. Grin

I never worked high profile jobs, partly because I refuse to be interviewed by a PA I'm interviewing the family as much as they are interviewing me so I like to meet them straight away. Especially when I was live in.
But a friend of mine was friends with the Beckham Nanny, yeah she was persona non grata within her nanny circle after that came out.

Another friend was a nanny briefly to older Amercican guy and a young welsh woman.
Wow that is one Shock family. They treated their staff horrifically bad, no one allowed to make eye contact that sort of attitude. I always thought that sort of stuff was urban legended but apparently not!

TinyTear · 11/11/2014 14:10

Wow little, but the old American guy does look a bit of a tosser Grin
I think I got who they are...

I discovered from the class email list my DD goes to nursery with the grandchild of a VERY famous person... I am impressed but not star-struck as I don't rate the band (overrated boyband in my opinion)
Although I wouldn't mind if they showed up to the all class birthday parties so I could brag a bit Grin

LittleBairn · 11/11/2014 14:36

Tiny yeah pretty much explained why his older kid have fucked up so badly!
I just hope they managed to secure a good long term nanny for the younger kids to provide some stability.

Oh and all those celebs when they claim not to have a nanny pretty much always lying! The Beckhams lied about it for years.
Even one of my non famous bosses used to pretend I was a distance family member. Grin

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 11/11/2014 16:05

Yes to the confidentiality clause but I can tell you its a politician who wasnt majorly high profile when I worked for them but he is now.

I fell into the job, I worked for his brother and sil who are not high profile but are certainly not a normal family batshit crazy and when they didnt need me anymore I sort of got passed on to the high profile brother.

please no names if your guessing I dont want it to come up in a google search.

My nanny friend works for saudi-arabian royalty, they have a nanny for each child.

LittleBairn · 11/11/2014 16:15

smiling Ahh the Saudi Royals now they have quite a rep for being a nightmare. Its not so common in the UK unless Amercian but at lot of NYC families have a nanny for each child I find that rather sad the whole point of a nanny is caring for a child in their own home and within their family.

Usually the absolutely batshit crazy sorts are the ones that seem the most normal until you are behind closed doors. Grin
My one bad (that's me being kind they were absolute bastards I was so glad the kids went full boarding at 8) family were friends of my ex bosses, their kids knew me and requested me. Dear lord I will never ever accept a job through ex bosses again. That's when I realised I needed to start interviewing families whilst they interviewed me.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 11/11/2014 16:24

I love my nice normal bosses, they arent perfect but they at least live in the same world I do, strangly the HP ones were ok actually a lot nicer than the brother and sil, very hands off parents and let me get on with my job without interfering. still find it amusing when I see him on tv though, i find the fact ive seen him in pyjamas strangely amusing Grin

TinyTear · 11/11/2014 17:26

OK no guesses :-)

Is it a dual nationality couple?

OP posts:
smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 11/11/2014 17:50

tiny yes hes english she isnt

LittleBairn · 11/11/2014 18:09

PMSL I guest it was him when you mentioned PJs, I could imagine him wearing PJs. Grin

Still a better mental picture of the one I have of my ex boss sitting naked wide legged on the edge of the bath scratching is balls.
