But I do agree on the Doppler, frequent at home use would worry me and I don't feel enough studies have been done into it.
Plus I would trust NHS equipment over private companies.

LondonSuperTrooper · 07/11/2014 09:28

Toucanet interesting what you said about the frequency of scans. To be honest I haven't given it a lot of thought. My DS had around 8 scans and he's absolutely perfect :)

Shetland Best of luck with your scan.

TinyTear · 07/11/2014 13:11

so my appointment today was a bit useless. midwife sent me to the hemophilia antenatal clinic as i was on clexane for a while, but it was just ticking boxes and say if i need to go to hospital or bed rest for any reason they will put me on clexane again and also will for a week after a c-section...

oh well... also got my flu jab now so all sorted...

next appointment, birth options clinic next week where I will say yes I want a c-section please, no don't want vbac...

Shetland hope all ok

Tiny sorry to hear that. I'm sure that you have told me before, but why were you on clexane?

Your hospital sounds very organised - birth plans already! This time round, I am not going to be so stupid in my birth plan. I will take all the pain killers that they can give me Grin So an epidural is likely going to be mentioned in my birth plan.

Shetland how is it going? have you had your appointment yet?

TinyTear · 07/11/2014 13:55

I was on clexane because of the miscarriages. went to the coventry implantation clinic for uNK cells testing and their protocol, even when that result is normal is progesterone from CD21 to 12w and clexane from 6w scan to 12w to aid placenta formation and implantation...

seems to have worked so far...

Birth plans...eeekkkk!! I have no idea, I'm not opposed to pain relief if its to much but think need to do some research on pros and cons of all the options. I guess everyone has a different experience.

Just finished work for the day and actually have some energy so food shopping and home to bake DP his favourite cake I think ;-)

TinyTear · 07/11/2014 14:40

last time i wanted it all except pethidine... so tried gas and air and then LOVED my epidural...

OP posts:
LittleBairn · 07/11/2014 14:49

Tiny its so frustrating when you turn up and its all about box ticking. Surely such things can be done over the phone.

I'm 16+6 still not had a single midwife appointment since my booking in at 8 weeks! I think they have genuinely forgot about me, I'm not technically within their area but because I'm a patient at the hospital (and they booked me in) they are supposed to be taking care of me.

I'm tempted to see how long it takes to remember me, I'm not particular bothered they are often a waste of time and it means traveling then possibly having a 2-3 hour wait to see a midwife.

The only things I can think of is GTT could possibily ask my GP.
Rehus Negative test, is this done at booking in?
I know I had a lot of blood taken. Plus I have been both times previously so I imagine if they don't know they will treat me at if I am. Especially since there was a small leak between me and DD.
GSB it doesn't really matter I tested positive in my first pregnancy so they usually always treat you as if you may be positive anyway.

LittleBairn · 07/11/2014 14:51

I love Gas and Air in fact I'm positively looking forward to it. Grin DH loves me on it too, gives him a laugh since I don't drink its the closest he gets to seeing me be silly.

I got my DHA tablets they smell like Hamsters...slightly disconcerting since they are meant to be Vegan. Shock

TinyTear · 07/11/2014 15:00

the midwives should check the blood tests to see if you need vitamin D and so on, but as you say you have supplements, then you should be ok...

OP posts:
LittleBairn · 07/11/2014 15:07

Yes I'm on a high supplement Vit D since I'm inside all the time.
Plus high dose Vit C and my DHA also contains Folic acid so I'll be getting some of that too.
Along with all my Gaviscon and Anti-acids.
I'm better stocked than Boots. Grin

LIG1979 · 07/11/2014 15:12

All I had was pethedine until dd was born. (Would not recommend personally it as about 4 hours is very hazy and not in a good way.) Luckily it had worn off by the pushing stage. Then the placenta got stuck so I ended up having an epidural in theatre. The epidural was lovely after all the pain and if I had known I was going to have it, I would have had it earlier.

This time I would like just gas and air ideally so I can go straight from delivery suite home but if he goes back to back (like dd did during labour) I want an epidural immediately.

LittleBairn · 07/11/2014 15:45

I'm scared of epidurals, are they very painful going in?
Its staying still that worries me I worry I would flinch.

Stuntman · 07/11/2014 15:51

I had an epidural with DS1 and they timed it between contractions so I would be able to keep still. It didn't work completely though in my case so I wouldn't have another one.

TinyTear · 07/11/2014 15:56

didn't hurt at all, compared to the contractions...

mine work perfectly so when i then went in for my section, they just needed to top it up.

OP posts:
LittleBairn · 07/11/2014 16:28

I Imagine if your deep into labour it doesn't hurt in comparison to the pain you are already in with contractions.
I'm more concerned about something like a pre planned C section or if contractions stopped and I need to go to theater for the placenta and having it done 'cold'.

I will at least have a cannula in so they can always knock me out quickly if needed.

LIG1979 · 07/11/2014 16:35

The epidural didn't hurt for me but had just given birth to a back to back baby so it was probably all relative.

Shetland · 07/11/2014 17:18

hello all :)

scan was fine - massive relief!
They checked for everything they would at a 20 weeks scan and all looks well, but i still get the 20 week one anyway.
i am now officially discharged from the consultant and on midwife led care.
oh, and "probably a girl but they'll check for sure at the next scan"

i had pethadine with DD1 and it just made me feel sick. Gas and air did nothing at all. wish i'd stuck to my guns and got the epidural. I was determined to have one with DD2 but there wasn't time in the end.

LittleBairn · 07/11/2014 17:39

shetland great news on the scan and (probable) DD.

TinyTear · 07/11/2014 17:46

Great news! When is your 20w one?

OP posts:
Shetland · 07/11/2014 19:07

Don't have a date yet tiny but should be first week of Dec I should think.

Congratulations on your scan Shetland. And on having a girl :) How do you feel about that?

Little I also had to book my 16 wk midwife appointment myself. I'm seeing the midwife at my GPs surgery.

LittleBairn · 08/11/2014 07:02

babies I might give them a call then. A bit silly if they insist you make your own in my first pregnancy I wouldn't have known at what stage you saw a midwife.
They did say at my booking in they send letters out for appointments but they are a crazy busy unit so a patient can easily get lost in the system.

17 weeks today! Only 7 more till V day.....and Christmas. Grin

LIG1979 · 08/11/2014 07:08

Good news Shetland!

Babiecakes - I am having a boy although this is a quite girl dominated thread.

My mum and sister had dd yesterday. They idolise dd and kept going on about how this dc won't be able to live up to dd. I know it will happen but I also cannot see how this much wanted little guy will be as amazing as dd. (i still got mad with my sister and mum for saying it though Grin .)
