The last leg really is the biggest test of patience I think I've experienced!

I tried to pick some films for early labour. I really don't know what to go for...

binky that sounds like a family day out to remember, hope things progress for you soon.

Thank you for replying shire and flashing - I too don't want to be pregnant any more!

Out of interest, have any of you said anything to your OH's about drinking? My DP has tried to curb it a bit, but then he has nights like tonight where it's 'I just want to relax, it's he weekend' - and he's back to his usual levels. I've only asked him to cool it now I'm 38 weeks, but he always has excuses. Maybe I am unreasonable...

Pregnantagain7 · 12/10/2014 21:06

Hey all keep everything crossed for me!!
Contractions 3-7 mins apart very ouchy, bouncing on a ball hoping this could be it mum on stand by going to give it another hour then call triage. They said to call when contractions are 4-5 mins apart. I think because it's my fourth they are concerned about me having it on the kitchen floor!! (So am I come to think of it (hmm)

CellyD · 12/10/2014 21:20

Good luck Clops and Pregnant hopefully your little ones are on their way. I hope all goes well for MrsDog and Matilda.

No word from Goats, I hope that means things are progressing smoothly.

I've been having reasonably strong contractions for the last 5 hours, I think they are every 10 minutes, so waiting to see of they continue or fizzle, so I can put my Mum on standby as she's coming to the hospital with us.

Maybe this baby has a plan to arrive midway through the strike...

Missus2ndwife · 12/10/2014 21:54

Lily I have literally just had this conversation!! Apparently we'll have loads of time before we need to get to the hospital / he'll ring an ambulance and I'm being unreasonable. I'm so annoyed.

Lily31 · 12/10/2014 22:15

Argh missus! I'm so annoyed too, he's banished to the spare bed. I've not had a drink since we had a positive test, and he can't even manage to cut down for a couple of weeks... Blood boiling!

Trying to stay calm and watch Downton. Think it might be a subject to broach when he's not had a drink. Trouble is, he always has a drink on his way back from work, so it would have to wait til next weekend...

Gahhh.... Venting feels good

Missus2ndwife · 12/10/2014 22:26

I'm so pleased to know I'm not the only one! Although I am now having a half glass of wine.

I get that he's stressed from work and it helps him unwind but I'm not being unreasonable asking him to stop drinking so close to the baby being born. It shouldn't be that hard surely?

And I don't know about you but I hate him getting into bed wreaking of alcohol, then he has to cling to me like a baby gorilla... I've been tempted on several occasions to move to the baby's room

Lily31 · 12/10/2014 22:36

Yep, not too keen on the smell, but it's the snoring which gets to me the most.

It sounds very similar, my DP says exactly the same. He needs to unwind, work is stressful... Blah blah. I get that and on any normal week that's fine. But at the moment, it's not a normal week.

The baby gorilla thing is so annoying. I don't have that with DP but have had that with past partners. It's a good description for it!

Half a glass for myself may well be the answer Confused can't beat em..

puppythedog · 12/10/2014 23:49

Lilly and Missus: for your husband's attention. I spent 45 hours awake with my wife whilst we struggled through our birth experience. I had to help her make decisions about how to protect her and our child.

I could not have managed that I the kind of relaxed state that booze can get you in. You need to be able to look after your family. Up to you but I'm glad I was on one beer max before and that I hadn't had any when we began our experience.

puppythedog · 12/10/2014 23:52

Mrsthedog and Matilda (and me helping) have managed feeds today. Two completely independently of midwife help :-)

Missus2ndwife · 13/10/2014 06:46

Thanks MrDog!! That's a great way of positioning it to him.

Ironically he's just said to me: you're out tonight so I'll go out for beers!! He just doesn't get it does he.

Anyhoo - glad things have improved for you, MrsDog and now puppydogMatilda.

Congrats to all the other new mommies this weekend. Looks like loads of people had babies Grin

I'm going to buy Evening Primrose Oil today to help move things along

puppythedog · 13/10/2014 07:14

Yup, it's not about being able to drive but able to stay awake, make life or death decisions (potentially) that you have to live with forever. Problems too that problems may not give you notice.

robindeer · 13/10/2014 08:14

Since giving up on the MLU water birth on finding out baby is breech and not budging despite ECV (ouch) I've come to terms with the idea of a caesarean. A friend of mine sent me this link, which really helped. I thought others may enjoy it too-

robindeer · 13/10/2014 08:20

Ooh! Also, just a word of support for the NHS strike. You people are our lifeline and get little but criticism from Govt. Any NHS workers on the thread (Me23!), thank you so much for what you do, and good luck to you all today.

cabster · 13/10/2014 08:30

Morning all. Naff all to report here. Today I am 40+5 which I was when DD was born (except with her I'd been having contractions for 3 days and my water would have gone about 12 hours ago) so this baby is now The Lazy One.

DH was MOST aggrieved to have been going off to work this morning, it's a PITA for him too as he can't really start any projects if he'll be called away at any minute, so he'll be hanging round the office like a spare part getting in everyone else's way or doing stuff which someone else might end up taking all the credit for.

Still, it's not like he's the one who has to squeeze a person out of his body is it Grin

Lily31 · 13/10/2014 08:59

Thank you puppy. I always lose my train of argument when talking about it. That is very focusing.

Glad you, the mrs and the lo and making progress.

Congratulations to all the new mummies.

robin do you have a date?

cabster and everyone else overdue -wishing you positive labouring vibes... Come on babies.

I hope that today the midwives get the coverage they deserve for their work and I'm sure any babies being born will still get optimum care. Echoing robin's words...

CellyD · 13/10/2014 09:01

Just popping on to say baby girl celly born this morning at 5.08am weighing 7lb 5oz. Far too much of a wuss to manage on gas and air alone, arrived at hospital at 1am with contractions every 3 minutes. I was 4cm dilated, tried the g&a for an hour then requested a mobile epidural. Still painful (nowhere near the pain you brave Mums without drugs deal with) but by bouncing on the ball and marching up and down, I got to 10cm by 5am. Pushed for 8 minutes and out she popped, clearly DD1 stretched things out a bit Hmm. I escaped with a minor graze and no tears.

DD2 (that sounds wired) had 45 minutes chopping at my boob and went to sleep. I'm on such an adrenalin high at the moment, dreading the crash that follows.

Good luck to all those in labour or awaiting their little ones. I have my fingers crossed for you all,

cabster · 13/10/2014 09:01

According to the radio the strike is already halfway through! My best wishes to anyone taking part.

cabster · 13/10/2014 09:02

Congrats Celly! Enjoy your little one Thanks

binkybunny · 13/10/2014 09:10

Congratulations celly!

cabster my dh is the same, his work didn't expect him in today.

40+3... come on baby!,

Celly good for you! I think second time round we're all a bit less martyrs to natural labour - if Lilla hadn't been breach I'd definitely have gone for a mobile epidural.

Robin I had an unplanned CS this time as Lilla went breech after my waters went - I have nothing but good to say about the experience. I can clearly remember the second I first saw and heard her - a memory I treasure - after hours of knackering b2b labour with J I was too out of it to remember with him.

binkybunny · 13/10/2014 09:23

robin nice article, I really don't see a cs as a failure to me it's just another way to give birth to a healthy baby.

I have already decided (if I can talk the mw into letting me) that rather than book an induction at my appointment on Friday, I'm booking a cs.

That first comment on the article made my blood boil though Angry What a silly, uneducated response!

YellowWellies · 13/10/2014 10:17

I think Goats must definitely be in labour. Am so glad she's avoided the induction she was dreading! Smile

Oh and

DGLB · 13/10/2014 10:19

Hi all,

Marking my place, 39 weeks today with dc3, both ds & dd we're overdue so not expecting to meet out new addition anytime soon Sad

Good luck everyone Smile

Missus2ndwife · 13/10/2014 10:36

Robin from what I have heard, CS's can be beautiful too - in a very calm environment with lovely music playing ... sounds almost idyllic. You are not a failure and you're baby will be fine.

I also think Goats must be well and truly on her way now as we haven't had a peep for almost a day now.

I'm off to buy last minute bits and pieces now. Still officially 2 weeks to go, but think he is coming sooner. YAY!!

xx
