Lots of lovely kicks though! Hurrah!

GeekyHybrid · 14/10/2014 21:49

Welcome helkat. Congrats on your blind Memphis - I couldn't even attempt anything like that so I'm full of admiration. Oh and thanks jack and Memphis for your comments on sleeping, or not! It's kind what I was dreading to hear but also what I was expecting. Thank f* for maternity leave so that hopefully I'll be able to catch up on sleep in the day. I'm a bit grouchy with no sleep, this kid's in for a rough ride!

Slightly more serious - since mid afternoon sproglet shifted into its low position and I've been quite uncomfortable. This evening it's been almost like period pains. Sort of cramps, bladder squished, can't find a comfortable position though can feel sproglet moving / kicking. I happen to have my 24w midwife appointment in the morning but I think otherwise I'd be tempted to call the hospital. Am I being over dramatic / worrying too much?

LittleMissSunshine33 · 14/10/2014 21:57

Welcome newbies!

Memphis I am a reception teacher and would not expect children to be adding!!! And most are just starting to write their names!! She doesn't sound like she knows what she's talking about!!! He must have only been at school 5/6 weeks?! Sorry to rant!

Have many others felt their little bean from the outside yet? Mine is definitely becoming more distinctive! Exciting!

Memphisbelly · 14/10/2014 22:03

Geeky baby is probably just finding a comfy spot it hasn't found before but if you are worried ask the mw, I asked about him kicking so low and never had it with ds, being my second she said its totally normal as things are looser this time....your mw is there to reassure you so ask her what ever you feel you want to. Smile
Regsrding sleep....they do settle quite quickly (sleeping longer between feeds) as their belly grows and holds more milk so the initial many wakes does pass quickly normally, if you plan on bf you have the plus of just getting boob out and half dozing through feed, I am not looking forward to traipsing downstairs in freezing cold for a bottleConfused

Dh returned home with a maccy d's ice cream, he knows how to settle my hormones!

25 weeks here today booking my 3d scan tomorrow, still cannot decide on 3 names I like.

Memphisbelly · 14/10/2014 22:12

Littlemiss she was a yr 2 and 3 teacher and this is her first reception year, you made me so relieved. She said by end of month she expects him to be able to read cat, mat, sat, hat etc. I have seen him come on loads recognising numbers everywhere. 'Jacobs name begins with a J' 'a S makes a ssss sound and looks like a snake' all off his own back so I was stunned when she said all of this. He has been there 5 weeks......I did point out though that she keeps spelling his surname wrong (I even correct all of the thimgs with it on wrong in a red pen Grin) ....I do tell her every week as well.

GeekyHybrid · 15/10/2014 07:17

Well done Memphis for your red pen corrections Grin This teacher sounds awful. I personally feel that we start formal education way too early in this country, at 4 children should be learning through play / exploration at their own pace. The Scandinavians have a much better attitude / education system. Anyway, rant over. I'm easy to set off after being up almost hourly to go wee in the night, still very uncomfortable this morning so roll on midwife. Just hope it's something 'normal'.

PeppermintInfusion · 15/10/2014 07:29

Just had my 20 wk scan yday (at just over 21wks) and it's a boy! Starting to feel real now I've him looking so much bigger than last time and we know what he is Smile
Very long legs too, hopefully he won't be a bruiser! DH is v tall now (although he was a premie) and I was v long when I was born.

misstiggiwinkle · 15/10/2014 08:17

Hi all, can I join? Sorry, I've been a lurker for a while but starting to need a little support. I'm 24+2 edd 3rd Feb and all off sudden this seems to be approaching fast!

I haven't yet bought anything, and I really mean ANYTHING, I've just about managed a few maternity clothes! I know I'm slightly in denial about the whole thing but this is a much wanted baby. I just can't quite bring myself to buy the things it will need. Am I being ridiculous?

I think I have somewhere in my mind that this baby won't be leaving the hospital with me (had early miss carriage early this year) and don't want the pain of having to return everything. I am staring to feel massively underprepared though - am I just being daft? You all seem so organised with your nurseries etc. I am usually a very organised person, just not sure what's happening here Confused

blankfornames · 15/10/2014 08:36

Hi misstiggiwinkle, Welcome! There's a pair of us in it so. I had a MC in April and even though I know this bub is healthy and growing, I'm feeling very like you! I haven't bought a thing yet. DH is quite superstitious and doesn't want to buy anything for a good while yet. I have been given a few (unused) 2nd hand babygrows but have them tucked away in my parent's house. I really want to start looking into buying stuff but feel that it'll make things all too real!

Viperama · 15/10/2014 08:38

Welcome Misstiggiwinkle, I know exactly how you feel, I had an EMC in February so I've been pretty cautious with buying stuff and how I feel mentally. A friend told me she bought everything as soon as she got her positive test, gosh I wish I could be so positive. But our reaction is our brain protecting us.

I'm now on bedrest so I feel like I've taken a big step back away from the EDD feb 8th, but I'm trying to remain hopeful.

What I've done is create wish lists at mother care and john Lewis, with everything we'll need, and as we get closer and more confident I'll just start hitting that order button. I think the lists are all ready now.

In other news I've started a bedrest thread if anyone wants to join that's on bedrest.

bagofsnakes · 15/10/2014 10:05

Hi misstiggiwinkle and I think that sounds totally logical. With my first I had a history of fertility issues, although no history of miscarriage, and so I just couldn't let myself believe it was actually going to happen. I didn't even do the whole Facebook 'I'm pregnant!' thing until I was 7.5 months gone! Really didn't start buying things until around then either. Obviously feeling more confident this time as I've been going crazy on Gumtree and ebay this past week.

You really don't need much to get started with anyway. We had to move house 5 weeks after our first was born, and then move to a different country when he was 10 weeks old, so could get much at at all but it was good in a way as it taught me that all baby really needs is a place to sleep, some kind of baby carrier and an f-ton of tiny nappies and clothes. That'll get you through the first few weeks - then you can go to town on the internet shopping :-) x

bagofsnakes · 15/10/2014 10:14

HelKat - Wow two sets of twins! Twins run in my family and I alway thought that they would be lovely to have... then I had a baby. While I still think they'd be lovely to have, I can't imagine how overwhelming the work is.
I suppose as it's your second set, you're well practised :-)

We have a secret Facebook group to go along with this group, please join it if you like. I think that frenetic can get you set up, if you PM her.

bagofsnakes · 15/10/2014 10:23

I'm laid up in bed with my second virus of the season - ugh! Was frustrated to tears this morning as I feel that I didn't even get better from the last.

Anyone else dealing with a horribly suppressed immune system? I think I got one light cold in the entirety of my last pregnancy and thought I was just one of those people who somehow had a stronger immune system during pregnancy. Turn out I was just lucky that time.

On the plus side it means that I can do some internet catch-up during the week - which is always nice.

GeekyHybrid · 15/10/2014 10:42

Saw me, on one hand we're ver relieved as heard heartbeat and junior is definitely still moving about. On the other hand I was advised to not go to work, rest up at home and if pain hasn't eased up to go to local hospital this afternoon to get checked out. Hopefully the hot bath and a nap will sort it out.

Welcome misstiggy the lack of early shopping is quite normal, whilst we seem to have acquired a load if stuff from friends and family we haven't bought anything besides one little hat! I am though driving around with a child seat already - saves it cluttering up the house! We've still got 4 months including the January sales is the way I'm looking at it Grin

GeekyHybrid · 15/10/2014 10:42

That post should start "saw mw". Darn autocorrect.

BanglesSpangles · 15/10/2014 10:56

morning all
welcome misstiggiwinkle

snakes- I feel like I've been absolutely felled by a cold- never usually get them this bad, but i assume my immune system has been shot to shit!

JacktheLab · 15/10/2014 11:05

Snakes I'm brewing up another cold too, too busy to take time off from work either :(

Anyone who wants to join the fb group just pm me, I think I've added everyone whose already asked?!?

bagofsnakes · 15/10/2014 11:17

Glad I'm not the only one, but not glad that you ladies are also under the weather. I really think that I need to be washing my hands more and keeping all the grubby teenages I work with a little further away from me.

PeppermintInfusion · 15/10/2014 11:17

I'm planning a big splurge in the jan sales, picked up a few things yday just to buy some boy stuff and coo overSmile

Jackthelab, I'll PM you about the FB groupSmile

Memphisbelly · 15/10/2014 12:51

Geeky hope a rest today sorts you out.

Been to my friend with her 4 week old baby, I told her to go and shower and to take her time to do what she wanted to do, I fed, dressed, snuggled, winded and cuddled baby to sleep and then fed her again! Was lovely, love how newborns pull their legs up like little frogs, I can't quite believe we are havimg one of those soon! i kept saying my god I am so broody I love her and friend had to keep reminding me that I am pregnant and will have one of my own soon enough, I still cant quite believe my luck Smile

No ds tonight don't really feel like going out for dinner as its such a waste when I can't manage it all so may make a bit of a curry feast

sandulacek · 15/10/2014 14:06

Hello newbies!

Misstig - this is our first and we haven't bought anything...I don't think you can count those 3 packs of baby wipes which were on offer Smile. Haven't even started thinking about the nursery - DH wants to keep his office as long as possible.

I just live with this idea that I can buy everything in the January sales but know it might be a bit late for the travel system. I was hoping to get some ideas last weekend at the Baby show but thanks to the house rest we couldn't go.

Viper I like your idea of wishlists I might use my time to do that!

suzimagoozi · 15/10/2014 14:16

I just calculated that with 2 weeks over half term and 2 weeks over Christmas I have 38 work days left until mat leave Grin Can't wait!!

I'm also looking forward to the January sales but a word of advice to anyone hoping to pick up a new pushchair or travel system - when we ordered ours on the weekend we were told it would be between 8 to 10 weeks before delivery. Not sure whether it's any different if you don't pick colour? Anyway, something to keep in mind.

GeekyHybrid · 15/10/2014 15:04

You're quite right suzi however the acquired stuff includes buggy, car seat etc.. Whilst the buggy is not what I would have chosen it will do for starters. Now instead of looking for somthing multipurpose we can concentrate on something for off-road, walking etc. We are spoilt I know but one advantage of being an 'older' mum, I'm at tail end of all my friends' child bearing efforts Grin

PeppermintInfusion · 15/10/2014 15:42

I got my travel system already- went to windowshop and suss out what might go for, the shop had the same model in last season's colour with £300 off- who knew buggys had a season? Anyway the colour was about 2 shades lighter than the current season shade, but only 5 left in the shop so we just went for it.
From my investigations so far, you don't tend to get much in the jan sales for buggies, possibly a bit off furniture but it is mostly soft furnishings, clothing etc.

freneticfox · 15/10/2014 15:49

Ah flipsicles. Got my physio referral through. Six weeks.

Seems like a painfully long wait :/
