Bangon I remember you saying about this about doing this shop in October and thinking it was ages away....time is ticking now!

jenmcspen · 14/10/2014 09:11

I'm off to the shops today too! Grin Bump has finally popped out at 24 weeks and my work clothes are getting a bit uncomfortable! So far have only bought maternity jeans so will need a few bits, but hoping to just size up in some things as maternity range in shops nr me isn't great.
Might sneak in a few baby bits too Grin

donkir · 14/10/2014 09:29

Morning everyone I still feel half asleep. I'm so tired and fed up of not sleeping. I now have ulcers in my mouth from tiredness. Does anyone know if I can take anything?

Eek I hadn't even thought about hospital bag. What kind of things are you all putting in? Completely forgot what I had 12 years ago.

Right I'm off to toddler group where i can hide in the corner and have a nap!

HelKat207 · 14/10/2014 10:00

Hello! Smile

Long-time lurker, but thought i'd just introduce myself and try see if i can keep up with you guys as it would be lovely to have a chat with ladies in the same boat as me from time to time!

Due date is 18th Feb, expecting girl twins! I also have five year old boy twins. Going to be a busy busy household next year!!

Feeling/looking huge already... And i know it's only going to get worse! Roll on Feb!
Haven't bought anything much yet as been a bit nervous about it all but i am literally DYING to start!! Not enough room in my house for a nursery this time around though so they'll both be cot sharing in my bedroom plus sharing my wardrobe/storage space! (HUGE clear out needed!!!)

Hope i'm okay to join this convo Smile

ps i'm not at all down with the abbreviations yet! Blush

longbottom · 14/10/2014 10:07

Welcome Hellcat!
We are a lovely friendly bunch!
You are ever so brave, I was terrorfied at the thought of twins, but they are double the love ??

BanglesSpangles · 14/10/2014 10:54

welcome helkat- wowzers- double twins!!

Report back on cookie spread- it is an excellent topping for rice cakes (dont judge- i like rice cakes)

Think yesterday's baby yoga exploits have made the bump pop out- it seemed bloody huge in the shower this morning. DH thinks I'm imagining it! And I woke up in the night with a sore back, which I really don't think is the point of yoga!! Guess I must've been doing it wrong

jenmcspen · 14/10/2014 11:02

Welcome helcat - the more the merrier Grin

kkllww · 14/10/2014 11:25

Welcome Helkat! Congrats on your 2nd set of twins, how exciting!

Germ warfare at my son's nursery at the mo - they've got outbreaks of chicken pox, hand foot & mouth and impetigo. Ew! Thought son had the pox but thankfully it's impetigo - it's all making me feel very itchy though.

JacktheLab · 14/10/2014 12:55

Hello helkat :)

freneticfox · 14/10/2014 15:22

Welcome Helkat and congrats!

Hoping to venture out for a meal tonight, it was our 2nd wedding anniversary yesterday. It's also been too long since I had fresh air!

Back pain is slowly improving, although when I said to a local friend my MW said physio would get back to me in seven working days she laughed... apparently her 'emergency' physio referral got requested in July and she JUST got an appointment through for November... the week before her due date.

NOW I'm nervous :/

Welcome Helkat! What have docs said about your EDD? I've a friend who carried twins to 38 weeks, she was on bed rest for the last months, but her boys were 7 and 8 pound each.

So after daily visitors to see their bed/sofa bound friend, since i have none today, I'm spending the entire day in bed!! Ventured to the kitchen to show my sister how to operate the washing machine, and trips to the loo, but that's it.

I've my fortnightly follow up with consultant tmrw at 430 for internal scan to see if we've stopped and god willing improved the ever thinning and funnelling cervix...Everything crossed please

Memphisbelly · 14/10/2014 16:03

Frenetic keep calling them every few days...eventually they will get so annoyed with the calls they will find you an appointment.

Welcome to more newbies....and double twins at that!

Well I have a birth story for you...friend is 38 weeks got to the hospital at 12.10 today and had her baby at........12.15!

Have ds's parents evening tonight.

Oh and I had one more stab at the blind before I binned it and I did it! Was feeling very proud very late last night! Now the cot can go up!

Bangonthedoor · 14/10/2014 16:04

Hi helkat Smile wow another set of twins how amazing!!

I had a successful trip to primark today, the only thing I didn't manage to get was a going home outfit but I can get that nearer the time! Can you tell I take this seriously?! Wink

So I bought some slippers, labour nightie, pjs for after, dressing gown, a towel and a couple of packs of big black cheap pants to chuck away after use! I also got some other bits but not for hospital bag. Then I got some breast pads, hair bands, maternity pads etc etc.

Memphisbelly · 14/10/2014 16:11

Bang on did they have any black/navy nighties? I cannot find one anywhere

hanflan · 14/10/2014 16:19

I'm looking for black/very dark pjs and a dressing gown too! Cheaper the better :)

BanglesSpangles · 14/10/2014 16:26

jeebs guys, you are so organised!! All I currently have is a room full of flat-packed baby furniture and a packet of babygro's

Seriously need to write me some lists!

Memphisbelly · 14/10/2014 16:34

I got my last on from Peacocks it was black with white flowers but after the birth I binned it thinking it was only £4 gutted now as it was button fronted and they don't do them now. i couldnt find plain black pjs so bought some black jersey joggers and black vest from asda for about £6 but also binned those about a month before I fell pg thinking I was never going to get pg again!

Bangonthedoor · 14/10/2014 16:53

Well the thing I like about primark is that it's nice and cheap so you can just throw away once they've got ruined etc.

Yes memphis they did have some black and navy nighties. I got a grey one with blue stars on. The pjs I got are navy checkered and the dressing gown is grey. Got a lovely dark purple towel too. Navy slippers too - not that that matters too much! Grin But I like my dark theme this time round.

The nighties were £4.50 Smile

blankfornames · 14/10/2014 19:04

Welcome Helcat, very exciting times ahead for you! Congrats! Hope you're doing well!
Donkir, try gargling salt in warm water a few times a day. Best thing I can think of!

Ladies, had ther best night sleep last night, for the first in ages I didn't wake up work sore hips or a sore back. I invested in a maternity pillow (theraline) and I slept so soundly! Normally I get back tweeks during the day but was brand new today!
I'm sure there's loads of brands out there, but this was recommended to me & it worked!

HelKat207 · 14/10/2014 19:16

Thank you for all your lovely welcomes Smile

Oooh hospital bag, getting stuff for that is quite exciting actually, if i pretend i'm going for a nice long weekend away somewhere, except instead of sexy undies and high heels i'll be packing granny nighties and thick sanitary towels Hmm
Still, i might treat myself to a nice new bag to carry it all in?!
I stayed 6 days last time though so perhaps a suitcase would be better...

Docs haven't said much about the birth yet, got consultant app on Friday..
Last time though i went 40+2... Birth weights 6.15 and 7.11.. Horrible birth to be honest.
I'm thinking of an elective c-section this time, as i was pretty poorly afterwards and as i think back over the whole 23 hours of labour/childbirth i shudder! I swore i'd never have another child again!!
Any of you ladies have thoughts on ELC's? I've been reading up ALOT but everyone is different i suppose but i'm a massive wimp with pain!!

Not enjoying pregnancy as much this time- i'm spotty, itchy to the point i'm using a really sharp bristled brush to scratch my shins, i'm struggling to go for number 2's (tmi sorry!) and i'm wide awake for hours during the night!!

Memphisbelly · 14/10/2014 19:50

Helkat people I know who have had an ELCS said it is a lot better than an emergency one in terms of healing, my friend was back on school run the same week as hers! Shock As you aren't exhausted from a labour before hand you tend to heal quicker, my only worry with 2 is here they don't help you up or with the babies so getting up to sort 2 in hospital I would want to get home ASAP to get nighttime help from dh.

I have been a wreck all night bawling my eyes out, ds's parents evening wasn't great he is the smallest and one of youngest there and had never picked up a pencil before he started school but she expects him to be adding up and writing his name unaided and his mind wanders....so naturally being hormonal I have sobbed over it

Grinningcat · 14/10/2014 20:10

Welcome hellcat.

Wow you are all so organised. I have bought a nightie to give birth in as I saw one I liked with buttons down the front and I thought that I was being premature! Think we have selected a cot now. Going shopping with MIL, SIL, and aunt in law on Saturday in Kingston so I plan to make the most of a proper girly shopping trip.

Missed my train earlier today and burst into tears when the nice man at the ticket barriers asked if he could help. Highly embarrassing, but I couldn't have stopped. Blush

HelKat207 · 14/10/2014 20:11

When i had my boys in the local hospital i was so lucky the midwives took them every single night it was fantastic!! However they have now decided to close the maternity ward to anyone except those who are low risk/just want gas & air (which 100% means NOT me) so i'll be going to the next nearest hospital 40 mins drive from home (many people in out county not happy with this, especially if there is an emergency) so i'm not sure what it's going to be like, i've heard some stories that they're quite stern and very forceful about BF too, we'll see!

Oh no memphis, how old is he? I think they expect alot from our little ones from such a tiny age. All my two want to do is play, especially when they get home. They've had 'homework' since they started nursery!! They've always been the youngest in the class and i was told how behind they were, i just told them outright i wasn't at all worried given their age and i knew they'd catch up- which they have! x

Memphisbelly · 14/10/2014 20:52

Helkat thank you for reassuring me ds was 4 in July, he had refused to draw and colour in until school so I thought as his numeracy and he can write his name after 5 weeks was good. He is such a sensitive boy. He has some written homework and 2 books every week! Thing is his TA told me he is most improved in class yesterday.
Regarding them taking twins away I am in Leicester and a woman had twins by c section and kept calling the buzzer as she couldn't reach them and they had to tell her to stop pressing buzzer in the end and to 'just feed your babies' she was Polish and said in Poland they took the banies at night and expected that there too. I admit in the night I went over to her to help hold them. I can see why most people leave after a section after 3 days just to get more support at home!
I was so swollen I needed to go home with a cathether as I couldn't wee and I asked if I could leave ds at nurses station so I could try and relax myself to wee in toilets (they told me to sit in there for 20 mins) but they wouldn't so expected me to leave him alone at the bed while I went to wee!

Surf25 · 14/10/2014 21:32

Wow, welcome hel how exciting to be having a second set of twins! Congrats and welcome aboard! I know a few sets of twins but no mums have ever made it to the due date with theirs! And as previous folk have said, I hear from friends who have had them that elcs are good, planned, low stress procedures. Obviously there is all the after care and 'rules' re driving and lifting etc but all in all they much preferred them over an emcs that's for sure! Are your twins id? You'll be getting lots of scans too i guess?

Things fine here. School holidays -half term for a fortnight! memphis I can relate too, esp with the preg hormone bit! Our dd is the youngest in her class - start straight into p1 with no reception yr up here. So she's 4.5 and enjoying school but absolutely shattered. Sounds to me like your ds is doing well! Hope you're not too discouraged - he'll be absolutely grand Smile is half term soon?

Feeling enormous today and starting to lose perspective on whether I actually am putting on too much weight, or not?! Anyone else? I was determined not to put on as much this time round. I put on more for the first than the second but found it hard to lose both times even though breastfeeding etc...probably because of the snacks I ate whilst feeding the babies!! I am aware this is a small thing in the big picture but just feeling it today! Perhaps would be better doing some exercise rather than early bed with iplayer!!
Anyone watching the apprentice?
