Awww congrats yellow so glad you got a lovely birth xx

Captainmcgraw · 25/09/2014 13:32

Congrats Yellow and Porcito! Fantastic news. Thanks for all the messages - I've struggled to keep up whilst in hospital but just waiting for discharge papers and then going home so hoping to catch up with thread over next few days. In the meantime wishing people smooth labours and hoping last days and weeks of pregnancy aren't too unbearable.

FlipFantasia · 25/09/2014 13:43

Yellow huge congrats on your baby! That's a great weight and I adore her name (such a beautiful way to remember your mum). Enjoy those newborn snuggles and getting used to life as a family of 4 Smile

mrsb87 · 25/09/2014 13:46

Congratulations yellow! Glad that your labour is finally over! Can't wait to see a picture Smile
binky I had a few nappies arrive today! So so excited, It's a little sad though. Also had my accessory kit (bucket, mesh bags etc) come in the post too today! I've just ordered some cheeky wipes too.
I'm having a lazy day today, I feel really achey and I'm struggling to get around to do anything now, getting dressed is seriously hard work. I feel a bit of a lazy monster though Sad

October 2014 - Thread 14 They`ve started arriving!
binkybunny · 25/09/2014 13:55

My cot bed has arrived. No call from the delivery company so I was sat in my dressing gown eating an ice lolly having thrown up in the shower and nearly fainted when they turned up.

Was on the phone to my mum while unpacking it and I'm so disappointed in it. it's not pine like the Mothercare website says, but crappy wood with a shiny veneer. The foot board also came apart when I picked it up, so it's going straight back.

Can anyone recommend a good cotbed for a maximum of £300? This was only £180 so I wasn't expecting wonders but I would expect it to last longer. My parents and Grandma are now going halves so have a bigger budget to spend.

fatpony · 25/09/2014 14:10

Yellow - congrats, sounds like a very peaceful birth and beautiful name for the wee baba!

Binkybunny - we have the Rachel cotbed from John Lewis which was £180. I really like it, feels solid and relatively easy to assemble.

mum2kiss · 25/09/2014 14:10

Sorry to hear you've had a disappointment with you cot bed :( we have a mamas and papas one that has served us well will be fine for this baby too. It is pine as well and served my daughter until she was 4 yr old

YellowWellies · 25/09/2014 14:10

Binky the IKEA cotbeds are very highly regarded and a good price.

puppythedog · 25/09/2014 14:18

Congratulations Yellow. I didn't see your post because I was ranting at the time Hmm

So lovely to hear such good news.

Regarding cots I found ikea was good enough and sturdy enough but there were sturdier more natural cots in that place that recently shut a lot of their shops but are keeping an online presence. Is it kidicare?

madamweasel · 25/09/2014 14:23

binky we've got this one and it has done the job well! still looks like new 2 yrs on and will be housing next LO when she arrives

madamweasel · 25/09/2014 14:24

Congrats yellow Flowers

STIGZ · 25/09/2014 14:33

Lovely news yellow ... What a great size too!! Many congratz to you & your family ... Esp big brother J Grin

Me i totally support strike action, change needs to happen and if this is only way to get it then so be it unfortunatly this is the only way to let people know you are serious about issues arising in your line of work, its such a shame Sad

binkybunny · 25/09/2014 14:39

Thanks for the suggestions, I should have mentioned that we are looking either for cream colour or something that can paint which seems to be limiting our choice (should have looked into this first Blush) will have a look through your suggestions.

I've seen one I like online from babies r us but they don't have one in store to go look at, which is what happened with the Mothercare one, so I'm now nervous of quality as I'd like it to last!

How you getting on Yellow? Hope all's well with your little bundle

fedupofrainydays · 25/09/2014 14:39

Right... Birth story. It's not a bad one at all - actually quite a positive one for you ladies!

So as you know on the Saturday night I had a dream I was wetting myself. I woke up and it felt wet down there. Couldn't really see as it was dark but somehow made myself go back to sleep after convincing myself it was just watery discharge. Then in the morning I went to the bathroom at about 7 and started dripping on to the floor and when I wiped it was pink. Put a pad in and called the triage. Said come in right away..
Took about 1.5 hours to sort childcare for ds, pack hospital bags (hadn't done this at all!!) and get to hospital. Had some tightenings but no real contractions.

Once at triage they examined me and confirms waters had gone and wanted to keep me in and give me antibiotics to prevent infection. As I was 36+2 they weren't going to speed up labour and they weren't going to stop it either.

Asked for a private room so after all the admissions stuff I was moved into a side room. Not a lot happened that day, DH went home as DS was being sick so we got him sorted and sent him of to the grandparents to escape the builders and we weren't sure when the baby would arrive.

That night I started to get pain. They moved me to the ward to monitor me. I started contracting what felt like every 5 mins. Only comfy place was standing up or on all fours. Was horrible being on a ward when this was happening! Paracetamol did nothing so they gave me pethidine in the end. Which made me drowsy but didn't really take the pain away. I felt quite scared and lonely in this dark ward and didn't want to wake the other pregnant ladies. Text DH saying I didn't want him to go to work tomorrow (he was only week 1 in to new job) but to come to be with me as was scared and thought it might happen.

So in the day, everything stopped. I had pains but not much and very irregular. They gave me codeine and I managed to sleep a bit or doze between the mild contractions. DH worked on his lap top in the chair next to my bed.
Late afternoon I was getting bad pain low down at the front and in my lower back. They thought it was a uti. I'm not sure why really as already on antibiotics so I thought unlikely, and the pain came and went like contractions do.
DH was going to go home but as it got dark, my pains got worse. I asked the MW to check position of the baby. She said he was as back to back as they go but said there was room in there for baby to turn so got me on the ball leaning on to a bed and swinging hips from side to side. She still didn't think I was in established labour though. DH didn't go home, instead he fell asleep on the bed!
But about 9pm the MW said it sounds like your contractions are getting more painful and took ages to go find some more pethidine. Doctors were so busy on labour ward to prescribe it. She came back about 10 or 11 and jabbed it in my bottom. I was worried it would affect baby but everyone said I was unlikely to deliver in 4 hours so shouldn't be a prob (can make them drowsy). I asked the MW to examine me - and she was literally - shit, your 8cm! And rushed off and got me wheeled up to delivery.

Once in the room they got me back on the ball and gave me gas and air. I discussed epidural with mw (I was mainly scared based on my previous birth of coping with the pain) she talked me out of it saying I was so far and coping so well so we agreed not to.

Anyway, contractions slowed down in the move between wards. I think I was so surprised how dilated i was too! So I got a bit stuck at 9cm so after a few hours she put me on the drip. At about the third level my contractions really went for it and I could feel immense pain at the top of my bottom (like at top of bum crack). No real concept of time but I then said I felt like I needed to push. Or do a huge poo. Wasn't sure!! Pethidine had worn off too.

I started to get the shakes and felt a bit panicky. I was still on the ball at this point. She told me to get up on the bed on all fours. Weirdest feeling as felt the baby was coming and the pressure was immense, quite difficult to move with jelly legs! . Somehow got my bottoms off and on to the bed, shaking like a leaf!
Then It all really motored. The contractions were so often and I was making incredible mooing / groaning noises with the pushing. I just kept saying how scared I was. DH and mw were keeping me calm and saying to just to go with my body and what it was trying to do.
It felt like I was trying to poo a melon - It felt all out of my bum rather than vagina, very weird.
Mw called in paediatrician saying she thought it was 5 or 10 mins away. She also called DH round to show him the head and both commented on the hair!
I was still mooing away and pushing - couldn't stop it, contractions just kept coming. So went for it, pushed as hard as I could with each contraction and then she was telling me to stop as he was crowning. Was a bit stingy but not too bad, then the head was out. Next contraction and the body rushed out too - feels like the contents of a fruit bowl wrapped in slippery cling film coming out - weird sensation! But oh what a relief!!! He cried straight away and
He was then passed back through my legs - my favourite bit. He looked exactly like ds did. Then we looked to see what we had - a boy!! Was so happy and relieved! I felt an instant love for him and quite overwhelmed by it all.

Then there was lots of cuddles and cord cutting. Then midwife told me not to panic about the amount of blood as was normal.

We then did some skin to skin, best feeling! and I had the injection to get the placenta out. Which didn't hurt at all - just another slightly weird pressure feeling. Later she showed DH all the bits - bit I'm too squeamish so decided not to investigate!

Then mw checked for tears - had a second degree. Very relieved not to have another third. She told me suturing was one of her favourite tasks and she enjoys doing a good repair job so I felt quite pleased about that! So with a bit of a local anaesthetic and some gas and air I was repaired all whilst skin to skin with my son.

That was it! Then it was a go at breast feeding then a shower before moving to post natal ward - and then all the stuff re low blood sugar kicked off.

fedupofrainydays · 25/09/2014 14:54

Congrats yellow glad to hear it was all nice and calm and safe arrival!'

mrsb87 · 25/09/2014 15:06

Lovely birth story fedup very reassuring considering I'm so close to my due date now Smile

Kirstipops · 25/09/2014 15:20

Aww I love your birth story fedup, thanks for posting it :)
Yellow congratulations, felt quite emotional when I read you'd had a wee girl, I'm so pleased for you that you got to use the name Lillemor, I had such a soft spot for it since you first posted about it.
I'm feeling pretty uncomfortable today with pressure down below, wondering if swivelling on the gym ball the last couple of days has started working and baby has began to engage, hmmm...

Should I be doing the ball thing? I find it REALLY uncomfortable to sit on - makes my back ache, and has done all along. Even if I'm moving on it. Haven't been for my pool run yet, but will go later.. so I'm doing something to move it all down. Not working though.

fedup - great story.. probably one of the ones that we just don't hear that often, ie one in the realistic middle of the spectrum.

Kirstipops · 25/09/2014 16:09

If it GIVES you a sore back then that's definitely offputting goats, I find it helps with my lower back pain so that's a bonus for me. Leaning over the ball isn't always the comfiest for me, feel like my bump is maybe still a bit too high for that, and I can't tell whether it's better to hold my spine straight or let it arch downwards with the weight of my tum!

MrsBadCrumble74 · 25/09/2014 16:13

Congratulations on your arrival yellow - what a beautiful name. Enjoy your snuggles Thanks

Congrats to yellow and portcito such good news. Glad all went well.
Thanks fedup for the birth story! really interesting to hear the sensation of him being born. Going for a vbac I wonder about that feeling a lot!

So I wimped opted out of my sweep this morning. The midwife said I could have one if I wanted...but I wasn't sure I felt ready? I feel like goats like I'm not one for all that mind over matter stuff normally but it doesn't feel right yet. I'm uncomfortable yes and stuff but not so major that I feel I have to rush this baby out. I have always had oct in my head as a due date, not end sept when they think I am so I'm sticking to my guns and hoping things progress over the weekend. I'm opting to sex with my oh over the sweep...surely it has to be a nicer experience?!! Grin

Last night my poor ds woke in a terrible nosebleed. There was blood everywhere, it gave me the shock of life until I realised what was happening. He was completely freaked out too and took ages to calm. I was then worried it was somehow connected to a bump to his head earlier in the day and so we let him sleep in our bed but set our alarm and woke every 1-2 hours to check he wasn't worse so I've had a terrible nights sleep and so the thought of potentially bringing on labour from the sweep did not appeal to morning!

So at least I have a plan now. Sweep next wed oct 1st if no baby and appointment at hospital oct 3rd at the hospital to discuss vbac options if still no baby....

Phew sorry for the very indulgent long post Blush
