yellow good luck hope everything goes well, however baby is born.

ldt false starts are always annoying but hopefully those pains will have started to ripen and shorten cervix so there isn't much work to do once labour starts.

slide thinking of you hope all is going well.

Also thinking of excited hope all good with you too.

Hope those that have had their babies are getting some rest and enjoying their newborn snuggles.

I actually feel more engergised and fit at this point than I have all the way through the pregnancy. I look back to how I was a month or two back and I don't know how I got through it, if I had know earlier how anaemic I was I could have been signed off work and not have used up my annual leave as saved it until baby was born, oh well I can't change it now.

I've worked out finances for various situations and the only way I would be better off working is if I worked 16 hours a week and then it would only be £80 more a month than if I was stay at home mum! Considering the responsibility I have for the health and well being of mums and babies, emergency skills and the shortage of mws, it's disgusting that is how valuable the government views us as Angry

ohthegoats · 25/09/2014 10:19

I've got some random spare shower bits (WHY? HOW?) sitting on the table right next to me, no idea why they haven't been used. Hahaaaargh. Cry.

Is your DH still off work? Mine just emailed to suggest I 'escape' - yeah, this week my dear I've had to make some major decisions about the structural integrity of our house, had discussions with builders and plumbers about stuff that you'll want someone to have had discussions on. I can't escape, if I do they make those decisions on their own, or they just go home - which is what happened on Monday morning when I dared to go for a swim for an hour, therefore putting off a working bathroom for another 4 days. Gentle RAAAAAH!

ohthegoats · 25/09/2014 10:22

Me - are you striking? I always have a really hard time deciding about strike action - they've never shut a school I've been working in during strike action, so there are still kids there needing education. It's not like we all get a jolly. Same as midwives - still women in labour while you're on a picket line watching them struggle past.

binkybunny · 25/09/2014 11:02

Well I found the best cure for my aching swollen gum, I fell asleep again laid on the bed and just woke up Blush Thankfully it seems to have subsided.

Yellow hope you're doing ok whichever way your baby decides s/he would like to arrive.

Sorry to hear of others workman mess, I think I would go mental at the moment, I honestly don't know how you are coping?!

ohthegoats · 25/09/2014 11:07

Weirdly I'm not too stressed by it YET. It's all stuff that I really wanted done before the baby arrives, so I just need it to be done asap. If I was in labour right now I'd have to send them all home, but so long as I've got sewing machine noise going I can at least feel I'm keeping up with their noise.

They are singing Don't Cry for Me Argentina at full volume though, which is never a good thing, especially for men.

Me23 · 25/09/2014 11:08

goats yes I've voted to strike ballots will close on Monday. Strike will only be for 4 hours and unions have said they will ensure there will be enough cover (to be honest it can't get much worse, we are always short staffed)
Mws have never taken strike action before ever, but enough is enough in order to provide a safe service for us and women and their babies we need to start standing up for ourselves.

Massive congratulations porcito. Enjoy those baby snuggles Thanks

Good luck yellow - hopefully you'll be cuddling your baby soon.

No change although more loss of plug and very heavy feeling down there today. Hope everyone is hanging on in there.

binkybunny · 25/09/2014 11:23

me having always (until my last job) worked in the private sector, I always thought striking was really selfish, I worked in hotels did long hours for crap pay and would have been fired for even mentioning the word strike.

However, since speaking with our midwives at the antenatal classes and hearing some of the stories from these threads, I've realised what crap conditions you guys have to work in with hours and pay when you are in charge of such precious lives. I'm also really impressed how it's been handled in terms of making sure there's cover etc so people in need don't suffer, so I've actually adone a U turn on my thinking and hope you get the result you want from it.

Missus2ndwife · 25/09/2014 11:41

Big Congrats to Porcito and good luck Yellow!! This is so exciting.

I am 35 weeks now and it still feels like a life time away until the baby arrives. Saying that, our order from JL only arrives next weekend, so anytime there after works for me baby (do you hear this baby, you can come then).

Feeling tired and emotional now too. I assume this is all normal.

kittyvet · 25/09/2014 11:42

Wow such a lot has happened in 12 hours! Congratulations portico and fingers crossed yellow. Sorry it all slowed down ltd. My sympathy for you guys eith builders in. We had them last year and really dont know how I would cope with them now!

Shirehobbit · 25/09/2014 11:53

I'm behind the strike - the midwife team who dealt with me during my labour with DS were genuinely distraught at the effect the insufficient staffing was having on our treatment (kept labouring in a corridor in triage, with no pain relief and no way of admitting me to delivery) and they begged me to complain.

binkybunny · 25/09/2014 11:55

Just put all my cloth nappies in for a pre wash, I'm so excited by them, it's a bit sad really!

I'm also asking my baby to stay put for another week now as my parents are coming to spend some time here next week and it would be great to go into labour while they are here as my mum is one of my birthing partners. They live 5 hours drive away, so it would very convenient if I could give birth next Friday/ Saturday Grin

ohthegoats · 25/09/2014 12:15

Ha, I've just organised going to mum's on Monday to spend some time with my nephews as she's babysitting overnight, then booked a hair appointment for Tuesday to sort out my roots, and then plans for tea afterwards at a friend's place half an hour further away from home doing nice things that I won't get chance to do for awhile afterwards. So, two days away... that'll bring it on, surely...

Oddly, we've been sort of scared to do the RLT, shagging and too much bouncing about. I really think we both want this house stuff sorted. Now boyf has the new job he might calm down a bit as well.

mum2kiss · 25/09/2014 12:20

Well I'm an emotional mess today...shouty, tearful, fedup, tired...I could go on forever.

My pgp doesn't seem manageable with my support belt anymore so feels like it did right back at the start :( I was limping to and from the school gate this morning.

I wanted to tell dp all this before he went to work but I just knew I wouldn't be able to get my point across without dissolving into a crying mess! The crying is just ridiculous and annoying! I need him to help me more, and I need him to take me Seriously when I say I'm exhausted and I can hardly walk. I know he will help me if I have a meltdown but I just don't see why it has to get to the stage that I seem like a suicidal maniac for me to make myself heard!

Ok I think I've got all I wanted off my chest!

fedupofrainydays · 25/09/2014 12:37

I think MW should strike too. I'm shocked by the long hours and how understaffed these areas are - particularly on post natal wards. During my stay i met some totally lovely MW who really worked hard to get Rory and I up and running and breast feeding. Yes there were some MW (ie the one who thought I had a uti rather than contractions) that I didn't rate but on the whole i thoughts they were amazing and so kind too.

I used to work in the public sector but in local gov and used to get annoyed by strikes when I felt a lot of people around me were lazy. Had so many benefits, easy hours, abused flexi time and weren't really performance managed. So thought they had it easy. I feel very different about midwives.

YellowWellies · 25/09/2014 12:43

Lillemor who had decided to go frank breech, made a squeaking appearance by a very calm and lovely CS at 10.49 this morn. At 35+5 she's a grand 6lb 14 and latched right on with no help needed. She's lovely. I feel amazing. So nice to meet her compus mentis not off my tree on drugs! She looks just like j when she sleeps. I never thought major surgery could be joyful but man that beat my last labour! If anyone ends up with a CS don't dread it Smile

puppythedog · 25/09/2014 12:45

There is a strong media and political message that strikes are only the responsibility of the strikers. Let's completely forget the conditions that lead to strike action. health professionals do not strike easily, it is a day's pay lost, for those in community settings it usually means doing a weeks work in four days, it means worry about cover and most are battered into believe if they are putting people at risk. The onus is not only on the strikers.
Christmas Day cover is always sorted so anything needing to be done would be and the responsibility also sits with the government..

mum2kiss · 25/09/2014 12:46

Congratulations Yellow!! Glad it was a positive experience for you both!

ohthegoats · 25/09/2014 12:46

Congratulations Yellow, decent weight for an earlyish too! Nice.

Congratulations Yellow sounds like a lovely birth, even if it wasn't as planned!

Me23 · 25/09/2014 13:12

yellow I'm so pleased that you had a lovely birth experience. What a beautiful name and great weight for your Lo Smile

Thank you to everyone who is supporting strike action it means a lot to midwives to have public support.

LondonJen · 25/09/2014 13:19

Yey, congrats Porcito, well done you!

And Yellow congrats, glad to hear you've both taken the cs in your stride!

LondonJen · 25/09/2014 13:22

I think I have similar Buggerlugs. Been feeling gushes but appears to be increase in discharge. Lovely! Still, hoping it's a sign that things are starting to move in the right direction.
