Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gunwalloe · 22/09/2014 09:12

Congrats mrscaptain

I thought I was doing ok with the nerves but just spent the morning being sick god I hate it can't even remember the last time I puked. I hope it was nerves and not a bug I couldn't handle them postponing my CS

OP posts:
ohthegoats · 22/09/2014 09:20

I only ordered a tens machine on Saturday after Friday's scare, won't be here until tomorrow. On Saturday that seemed an age away... but feel alright now.

gun - it's a means to a lovely end, think positive!

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 22/09/2014 09:27

Congratulations, MrsC! Positive birth stories are very welcome Smile.

fedup I hope Rory gets better asap and you can take him home again soon.

I didn't check the thread yesterday and it's so hard to keep up. Re nighttime sharing parenting I'm sort of having the opposite argument with dh - I'd rather we slept in different rooms, since I think he'd be more use to me well-rested. Plus his job has a higher potential for inadvertently killing people than most and involves occasionally having to go into work in the middle of the night. So tbh, part of me sees him wanting to suffer the baby-related sleep deprivation as him being a martyr (which is probably ridiculously unfair and he was extremely supportive last time round). But mostly I'm just hoping that dc2 is a better sleeper than his sister!

Kirstipops · 22/09/2014 09:34

I had a go of the tens machine when it arrived to get used to the sensation, I think it could be quite addictive, maybe my juvenile years of playing Operation did it haha. Each time you go up a strength it's not the most pleasant feeling but I couldn't believe how quickly I got used to it after that.
Gun hopefully just a wee blip, I always get a dicky tum when I'm excited about something, from an upcoming holiday to even just a party, my mum is less "lucky" and gets migraines - maybe it's a stomach migraine you're having. Get as much R&R as you canBrewThanks

ohthegoats · 22/09/2014 09:48

I think he'd be more use to me well-rested

Yerp frau, I have similar feelings tbh. Obviously we'll just see how it goes, but I'm trying to avoid resentment issues building up. At some point it has to be my turn.

bumpbangbump · 22/09/2014 09:56

Yay, another baby. Congratulations mrsc! Enjoy your little bundle.

SweetPeaPods · 22/09/2014 10:03

Congrats MrsC Thanks glad you had a much more positive labour this time. Just goes to show not all labours are the same.

Captainmcgraw · 22/09/2014 10:05

gun I've also been lurking and generally feeling rubbish. Upset stomach, cramps and back pain. In fact feels very similar to start of labour last time but I think it's just nerves. Thinking of you! What time's your pre-op? Mine's 1.30pm.

Congrats mrscaptain!

Captainmcgraw · 22/09/2014 10:05

Not lurking, puking...

Missus2ndwife · 22/09/2014 10:08

Congrats MrsC! Great birth story and so pleased you had a lovely experience.

There will be no one left on this thread by the time my boy arrives - although having chat with consultant at 38 weeks re induction vs health.

Must order Tens machine today.

binkybunny · 22/09/2014 10:11

Congratulations mrsc lovely birth story!

binkybunny · 22/09/2014 10:13

Has anyone bought a second hand Tens machine? Our mw suggested doing so as it can work out cheaper than hiring.

Me23 · 22/09/2014 10:23

Congratulations mrscaptain what a wonderful birth story Smile

Kirstipops · 22/09/2014 10:23

I hired mine from here www.mama-tens.info , mainly as it would mean any faults with the machine or any pads needing replaced etc could be handled by the company. Plus it's an easy return service, i paid £30 for up to 6 weeks, good option for a lazy cow like me, I reckoned that if I bought my own I'd prob never bother selling it on again!

hefner · 22/09/2014 10:35

binky I bought a second hand tens (a Femme tens) from eBay when I was pregnant with dd, and got new pads from amazon. It was about the same price as hiring, but worked out cheaper as I can reuse it this time and then hopefully resell.

binkybunny · 22/09/2014 10:42

I haven't got round to ordering one yet, so hopefully I can either hire/ buy one seeing as there seems to be a bit of a baby boom! Dsis is starting a family soon so thought I could sell on to her if I bought, but as kirsti says at least if anything's wrong it can go back. Wish I was able to make simple decisions again, pregnancy seems to have taken that ability away from me!

LondonJen · 22/09/2014 10:44

Congratulations MrsCaptain! Thanks for sharing your story I long for something similarly smooth!

Lulu I read on here that hip ache can be your bum needing a good stretch -wish I could remember who to credit that to as it reminded me of my pilates teacher saying the bum gets tight in pregnancy and showing us a good stretch. Basically sit on floor, hands behind you, knees bent, put one foot across the other knee and bring knee bit closer towards you. Should feel stretch in your bum. It's a standard exercise not a pregnancy one so you might find better explanation from googling if that made no sense!! My hip hurts in bed at the pressure point of the side I lie on. It used to fade when I rolled over but now still hurts and I have to rub it. The stretching helps though. When I remember to do it.

Also, I am taking a wheelie suitcase. One that only just meets hand luggage limits. Then a bag with extra maternity pads/nappies in case the tiny amount in suitcase isn't enough will be in the boot of the car. Plus sep shoulder bag for snacks/hosp notes.

Pinkie2103 · 22/09/2014 11:07

I bought a second hand TENS from a local FB page for £5 so just needed new batteries and pads - hopefully that and the natal hypnotherapy (I also bought the labour companion to listen to during labour) will help before I get into the pool

Had friends staying all weekend and have more staying this weekend which is all rather exhausting but at least it takes my mind off things and provides more entertainment for DS. Unfortunately he seems to be developing a cold so I'm dosing him up with vitamins and probiotics and hoping to knock it on the head ASAP

Congrats MrsCaptain

MrsCaptainReynolds · 22/09/2014 11:12

Aww thank you all.

I bought the Elle plus from mothercare. It has a postnatal pain mode and a pelvic floor stimulator (which I need because of the previous forceps) so expensive but mutlifunctional. I used it right from the beginning and ramped it up whenever I thought, "is this really working?". I still didn't get through the full range of options so I wouldn't feel like you need to put off any strength settings. I liked it quite high, almost painful during the contractions as it was something else, something manageable, to focus on.

The hypnotherapy I did was "natal hypnotherapy" by Maggie Howell which I listened to all day during the latent period. I also had my DH repeating key phrases e.g. 3 2 1 relax.

The other thing that I think made a big difference was his position. He was pretty much in the ideal alignment. I really dreaded another back-to-back baby and as I had a big anterior placenta it seemed likely. I read through the spinning babies website and have been exercising the baby into position over the past few weeks and repeated some of the key positioning and engagement exercises during my more conscious periods of labour. And I absolutely refused to go on my back. Delivered him lying on my left side, DH holding my leg.

Still feeling great, can't believe it after ds1 when I was sobbing and feeling like I was dying. This time I had a shower about an hour after he was born, and stood there feeling fine, and feel all fresh and clean and quite excitable! I've even had a wee (bit prickly, will get some salty water next time) and passed a few trumps. Won't be poo-ing for a while as vacated my bowels in early labour but bottom not too sore! Sorry if TMI!

I was close to requesting a section for a second delivery, the first was so difficult. Still stunned it could be so different.

Missus2ndwife · 22/09/2014 11:20

I've just ordered a Tens Machine from here www.tens.co.uk/ - which includes return postage. Seemed reasonable.

binkybunny · 22/09/2014 11:32

That looks good missus think I'll be ordering one of those!

Me23 · 22/09/2014 11:46

Had mw today as didn't see her last week at 36 weeks (am 37+2 now) everything looking good. Baby head is 1/5th in pelvis. So mw happy to do sweep next week if I'm fed up. I doubt I will go for it haven't needed sweeps before. Will be having more sex this week though get those prostaglandins released (I'm so romantic) lol I'm sure OH won't mind he had been rather deprived lately.

Forgot to say before I would recommend a hand held fan for your hospital bags birthing rooms are so hot mw said lately they have been really bad so worth investing in one. Why is it so hot still?

It's my OH 30th next week! He may be sharing his bday with his daughter! Actually it would be good if baby came then as his mum will be here so childcare for other 2 sorted. She lives 3 hours away so can't exactly nip down when I labour.

cabster · 22/09/2014 11:55

Congrats MrsC! And what an inspirational story, I shall remember it when it all kicks off for me :)

madamweasel · 22/09/2014 11:56

Congratulations mrscaptain thanks for the info! I also had forceps first time round and my mw keeps telling me 2nd births are often more straightforward but I can't quite bring myself to hope that's true. I really want this one to go well so your story helps. Good luck with baby at home Flowers

Kirstipops · 22/09/2014 11:58

I find just the waiting room area at my hosp is sweltering so i definitely need a fan! I've got a great fan that also works as a water mister thing, it's reasonably powerful as well, got it for a fiver off EBay. Here's a link if anyone fancies it -pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=400765099344&alt=web
