Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BadgerInBury · 20/09/2014 12:31

CJ, just adding my support to everyone else's. Be reassured and get your DH round sharpish with cuddles, comfort food and your DD. You've already done a splendid job raising one baby and everything is going to be just fine with this one too, just a few little hurdles to get through first. Maybe let your mum know she's hurt your feelings badly too and that you need extra support at the moment too.

My mum hasn't liked the name of a single one of her grandchildren and she's got 7 so far! When my dd was born she told me it was too difficult to pronounce and that I need to change it to something else. Um...NO!

I don't know about you guys but I've never come across an adult whose name doesn't suit them!

FlipFantasia · 20/09/2014 12:59

Congratulations Bump! I bet your little girl is gorgeous (and I hope she's back with you soon).

CJ sorry things are so stressful. Your mum should never have said a word - she named her baby/babies and you name yours. End of. Anyway, you picked a gorgeous, classic boy's name so she is blatantly wrong! It is great that TT has been picked up so early. It's often a struggle to get it diagnosed/treated. My DS failed his first hearing screening on one side (also a c-section baby) and I was also distraught! Of course he passed the second one with no problem.

Fedup so glad that feeding is going better. Are you home? Or nearly home?

Slide how's things with you?

Badger I meant to say it must have been emotional spreading your mum's ashes. Glad your wriggly baby brought some comfort.

Yellow art galleries sounds lovely! I'd love my baby to come on oct 16 (my dad's anniversary - will be 29 years this year)...except it's 11 days last my due date and I may just love my mind waiting! Well done on getting to 35 weeks and hope J's teething eases.

I had what I think were my first ever BHs during the night. Third pregnancy and never had them before so not 100% if that's what they were. Interesting sensations though!

I'm down for refusing induction as am a vbac-er. If I go post 41 weeks I'll ask for expectant monitoring and make a decision then. The pessary gel is out (precisely as it's uncontrollable) but syntocin (pitocin as it's called here) is used, often after ARM. They also use a balloon thing (not the foley method but similar) to inflate the cervix. This will be my 2nd vbac.

clairemiss79 · 20/09/2014 13:16

cj its awful that your mum had made you feel bad. Don't feel you need to change your baby's name. Your mum's prob feeling a bit stressed and when she spends time with the baby the name will become the baby iyswim.
frau Thanks for the reassurance about the induced vbac. The prob here is that it's not hosp policy to use the drip and all the mw's keep saying that its not a good idea etc. Now i have strep b to worry about as well!!
flip would you choose another c section over induction? I have to be induced by due date and I'm beginning to feel that another c section would be the answer :)

FlipFantasia · 20/09/2014 13:53

Claire why do you need to be induced? That would be more relevant (eg preeclampsia/GD would mean baby needs getting out). I know I can go naturally so unless something like GD or preeclampsia developed I'll just wait. And I know (from my last vbac) that needing syntocin to strengthen contractions is not something I'll need. So I can't say I'd choose an induction over a planned section (my first was an induction with pessary that went mental so I am not an good example! My midwives may well persuade me to try ARM if I have a favourable cervix/high bishops score. I'd start with a sweep though).

FlipFantasia · 20/09/2014 13:54

Meant to add Claire that other women on here have had good induction stories so are better to ask (maybe Pregnantagain had induced vbacs? Or Gun? My three hours of sleep have my memory wrecked!).

clairemiss79 · 20/09/2014 13:59

flip I'm not allowed past my date due to the size of my previous babies - 10lb 4. I think vbac s not such a good idea then. The consultant said ARM on 14th oct then syntocinon on 15th to start labour if not started already. If my cervix isn't favourable for any of this then c section. It's the syntocin drip i feel nervous about. Your plan sounds great :)

Lily31 · 20/09/2014 14:02

Thanks for the reassurance binky. I was quite anxious about it in the night.

Been for a lovely swim and a run up and down the pool after goats suggestion. Feel calmer.

Enjoy the baby shower porcito!

FlipFantasia · 20/09/2014 14:09

Yes Porcito enjoy the baby shower (I have visions of a tonne of lovely folks with great Mexican cuisine!).

ohthegoats · 20/09/2014 14:23

yellow - yerp, I'm feeling the latent labour vibe too. Just my luck I'll get a fortnight of it then end up being induced anyway, which is what just happened to my friend.

As soon as I've managed to rest up a bit post all the work rush stuff, maybe Monday/Tuesday, I'm going to get on with eviction stuff, see if I can speed things up.

Meanwhile I resorted the hospital bag and we've been to Lidl and Mothercare for all the stuff we didn't have - lots of nice things for me too.

Hope everyone having issues has it all start to improve soon!

sazzlehopes · 20/09/2014 14:40

Sorry cj like everyone else has said you don't need unhelpful comments from your mum especially when you are having other baby troubles. If you can't say anything nice....etc etc.

I'm back from the hospital after a morning of monitoring. Was nice to see all was well and even tiny contractions? Or something happening regularly with my uterus at any rate which makes me hope I won't go too far past my due date next sat. I'm now just trying to remain positive about the vabc.

Pregnantagain7 · 20/09/2014 15:11

claire I don't have any experience of vbac inductions but I have had to regular inductions. I've said it a few times on here but they really were fine very positive experiences I felt very in control with both. I totally understand your concerns about the drip I had it with my first but didn't need it with my second. The one thing I will say about it is the midwives control the intensity of it so basically they crank you up every half and hour I think it was, so it's not full on straight away. I knew that I was probably going to have an epidural so when I felt the pain was getting quite intense I told the midwife that I wanted an epidural but wasn't sure when to have it,so she suggested informing the anaesthetist and we could not increases it until it was in place if that's what I wanted so while the pain increased a tiny bit I could deal with it until the epidural was in place.

HTH I know people will think I'm mad but if I had choice I would actually be very happy to be induced again!

MundayCakes85 · 20/09/2014 17:26

Sazzle glad to hear you're home safely.
Well I certainly won't be scrubbing the kitchen floor again- all I seem to have achieved is a bad back and sweaty everything!!
DH suggested dinner out tonight as it might be our last chance for a while Shock

LondonJen · 20/09/2014 17:28

Huge congrats bump! Hope you get those cuddles soon.

Hugs excited

Sending you positive tiny contraction vibes sazzle!

Hope you got home today Fedup

sazzlehopes · 20/09/2014 17:54

Thanks London loving the tiny vibes Grin I now have the period ache and the feeling of needing to poo all the time? Hoping these are all good signs and not me over thinking things because I think I'm getting somewhere.... We shall see!

Pregnant, yes for the vbac I'm going for the mw were keen on a drip for just that reason that they can control it. Turning it up, or even switching it off if it gets things started and your body takes over. I don't think it has to be seen as a negative experience to have a drip. claire I think I'm going to try other methods first...dtd and a sweep from my midwife to try and get things started or at least ripen my cervix so if I go over and am offered the drip I'll have hopefully helped my body along. But I know what you mean about a csection suddenly feeling like a good answer...sometimes the unknown gets a bit scary. I go through moments of wishing I'd opted for an elcs, and then thinking no I should give it a go to have a better recovery time hopefully...

ExcitedCJ · 20/09/2014 19:08

My gorgeous little DS has been taken to the SCBU. His temp keeps dropping & we still can't get sugars regulated.
I'm trying to stay calm in attempts to get my milk to arrive as I dearly want to feed DS but all the stress is really getting to me!

CellyD · 20/09/2014 19:17

Congratulations Bump. CJ sorry things are so stressful at the moment.

From the number of people suffering a variety of pains it sounds like it's going to be a busy week for little ones to arrive...

Lily31 · 20/09/2014 19:51

excited, I'm sorry that things aren't going as you'd hoped. Your gorgeous bubba will be in the best place being monitored and cared for around the clock by well trained people.

Try to get the best support from the team around you with the expressing. Even a tiny amount is good. Do you have uplifting music or relaxation techniques you've picked up? Don't be hard on yourself though and know that you are doing your very best.

Grannyapple · 20/09/2014 20:53

excited big flick to your mum...so not what you need right now!

Both my son & daughter had tongue ties...& I had both snipped to make feeding easier. I gave formula on the first night home with DS & on the first night on the ward with DD...mainly because I didn't want them getting dehydrated due to the feeding issue (DS had blood in his nappy when we got home..because the first night post birth, MW's didn't check latch etc properly...he would go on the boob & then fall asleep after 10 mins as he was struggling to get anything so ended up dehydrated slightly). But both of mine didn't have nipple confusion & ended up feeding fine til 9wks (DD was more exclusively breast fed than DS cos I had hers snipped earlier, albeit privately). Anyway, you have enough going on just now, but here if you need to ask questions on tongue tie etc.

Can't remember where you are in the country but I have names of a few lactation consultants who do it privately if you need their details, if referral is too long at hospital etc xxx

fedupofrainydays · 20/09/2014 21:15

cj exactly the same happened to me and we are ok now and in fact my boobs are enormous and full now. But I was exhausted, depressed and tired and sore from trying to hand express seemingly non existant colostrum. See if there is a mw or feeding specialst to help you express. It will forever stick in my head being milked by various people bit I was too tired and depressed to do it myself properly. Never mind catch it in a stupid syringe. Keep it up lovely lady and your milk will come in... Promise.

fedupofrainydays · 20/09/2014 21:17

We got home today ladies.
Surrounded by building chaos but I can see the potential and will love it. Ds loves Rory and am having a small glass of my favourite red wine to celebrate us getting home. Happy days Grin

Shirehobbit · 20/09/2014 21:25

Welcome home, Fedup and Rory Grin

gunwalloe · 20/09/2014 21:39

Congrats bump

Sorry your having a tough time CJ Have your sugars stayed normal?

Congrats on being home fedup

My vbacs were naturally starting so I can't offer any info on induction

OP posts:
ExcitedCJ · 20/09/2014 21:43

You ladies are amazing, thanks for the support.
Fedup I'm sorry you had to go through this too. I have been milked by about 7 different people! There is one particular auxiliary nurse from Liverpool who takes no prisoners, she is great. I have a new top of the range pump in my room tonight to try and do some stimulation and pumping.
Granny I will look up lactation consultants in my area, I am in N. Ireland.
Just need to get some rest and try and let my poor little head chill out a bit. Not easy.....
