Pokes head around the door... knock, knock 'would you mind if I join you?'

I've been on the October thread, and I'm due on 27th October. I think I'm likely to be late, it seems to be the way in my family. Would be nice to have company on here. Smile

That cowboy pie recipe sounds yummy!

CraziesTogether · 11/09/2014 23:13

Cowboy pie sounds ideal for comfort food post baby. Thank eastmids.

Having an ok day here, second NCT class this evening and I am actually really enjoying them. Feeling a lot more real now!

weeonion · 11/09/2014 23:22

Hey lily! I am also on Oct thread - due 25th Oct but started put on this thread so stuck with it!

Loaf99 · 12/09/2014 06:43

8 weeks left at work and 11 weeks until edd. Ordering the buggy and mattress for cot tonight plus buying my slip on slippers for hospital bag! Would you recommend washing baby clothes which are brand new? (Seems like extra work to me!)

Am working from home one day a week and it is making such a difference not having the one hour each way commute for one day

Exciting times! X

haventgotaclue1 · 12/09/2014 07:12

loaf I've been washing EVERYTHING whether brand new or hand me downs - everyone has been telling me to do this and being a clueless ftm, I've gone for it! But it's not too much hassle really - stick it in the machine and then out on the line. ....

Annarose2014 · 12/09/2014 09:04

What i've heard is that people wash everything that comes into the house for Baby No. 1, wash hand-me-downs only for Baby No. 2, and wash sweet f* all for Baby No. 3!

AnnaBananaBoo · 12/09/2014 09:06

Happy Friday everyone!!

It is recommended to wash them
to get all the potential dust/chemicals etc that they can pick up when hanging around in dusty factories+warehouses. It is also super exciting to see them all hanging out on the line Grin

Had first night where I've slept all the way through for a few weeks and feel so very much better for it this morning!

AnnaBananaBoo · 12/09/2014 09:07

Haha...or what Anna said! Smile

Lily31 · 12/09/2014 09:10

Morning all. Thanks for the welcome onion

I'm going to wash everything loaf. I wasn't going to initially, but I'm like the same. FTM and I have no idea! Just using a small amount of non bio and some suncare softener which is for sensitive skin.

I am now off work, been having PGP and commuting go too much! Got to get all the nesting done. Very exciting!

blamber · 12/09/2014 10:27

Yes definitely wash everything! They often put chemicals in new clothes to prevent creasing so they look nice in the shop. You'd want to wash that out. I wash all my new clothes first so definitely would for the baby.

blamber · 12/09/2014 10:28

Lily that's great that you're off now! Can't wait myself!

TwigletFiend · 12/09/2014 10:55

Morning all. Hope everyone's feeling well - it's Friday at last!

I had a bit of a disaster Wednesday night. Long story short, someone spooked my horse as I was leading him out to the field and he threw a fit, so I let go of the rope. Cue loose horse hooning off around the field, standing on his lead rope at a flat out gallop and pulling himself over. I thought he'd broken his bloody neck. Luckily he rolled over, but he ended up in a bramble bush and has cut his ears, head, eyelid, nostril and foreleg. Only superficial, but very sore. Not only that, I pulled a muscle in my bump during my frantic waddle trip up the field to see if he was ok, so have spent the last 36 hours walking around bent over and hobbling around like some cranky old woman. No serious injuries on either side, but was horrible to see him fall and equally horrible to worry that Bean might have been hurt when I had the initial pain of the pulled muscle. Of the 15 people who were in the field watching the incident - one of whom was the woman who scared him in the first place - not a single one asked if I was ok when I traipsed, bloody and teary-eyed, back past them to the stables. Argh!

Anyway, that's my whinge done for the day!

Hi Lily, glad you can join us. Will cross fingers that you aren't late, but it's nice to have new faces Smile Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl?

Had our breastfeeding clinic through NCT this week. Really useful in terms of practicing comfortable positions, what to expect when etc. I didn't realise a new-born's tummy was so small! I mean, I knew it was small, but we're talking the size of a small marble. Tiny! Shock

bunny, sorry but I had a bit of a snort over that. Sounds like the sort of thing I would do! I already have stretch marks all over my butt and thighs though, so not sure I would even notice any more.

I know you need to use non-bio powder, but is scented fabric softener ok for baby things? Should probably start washing this weekend now I have drawers to put stuff in!

Twiglet that sounds quite stressful, glad you are ok. Can't believe no one checked if you were ok! Bloomin' idiots...

I am still waiting to get the appointments through on the breastfeeding workshops. Looking forward to that as I really don't have a clue.

I have bought un-perfumed softener, playing it on the safe side. I don't however want to become uber cautious with everything. Babies need some exposure or they get allergies and all sorts.

barmybunting · 12/09/2014 14:44

bunny, I have sent you an invite for the fb group, hopefully you will get that ok.

blamber · 12/09/2014 15:12

Twiglet poor you and poor horse! Unbelievable those people there.

I thought you could use normal washing powder too unless you find that the baby is allergic?

I am not aware of any breastfeeding workshops in my area which is a bit crap as I'm clueless. The size of a marble? No wonder they want to feed all the time!

TwigletFiend · 12/09/2014 15:42

blamber, if you pm me an email address, I will forward you all the material from our workshop if you like? Smile

And yes, it grows an amazing amount even in just the first week, but a new-born's stomach only holds approximately 5ml of liquid, and that is at full capacity!

It's my mother who needs thanking for cowboy pie recipe with 8 children and a manual labour husband she had to make cheap filling meals and came up with this (I hate cheap sausages but cowboy pie tastes so much better with them!) - we grew up in Sussex and never heard of it other than at home moved to east Midlands 11yrs ago and didn't hear of it til my 4yr old started nursery at a yr old and dinner one lunchtime was cowboy pie and they were shocked I knew what it was although they just did sausages n beans with mash topping.

Another fav my mum made was sausage meat and baked bean pasties we loved those and I have actually used left over cowboy pie as the filling - think she found these cheap as made own pastry and pasties need little mixture in them otherwise the mixture explodes out.

Just my mum at home now and my 9yr old nephew lives with her so think she doesn't cook the stuff she made us so much.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 12/09/2014 16:31

Anyone looking for bargains (sure you have noticed I love a bargain) boden have a clearance sale on and lots good baby bits I have ordered couple bits for next summer for baby n my 4yr old. Free delivery and a free gift for new customer at mo as well.

Loaf99 · 12/09/2014 18:27

Thanks everyone I will look out for some sensitive washing powder and get all domestic doing some washing! Off to buy buggy slippers and winter boots, the later for me. Smile woo woo

pinkgirlythoughts · 12/09/2014 18:53

DS loves cowboy pie! He has it for lunch sometimes at nursery, one of the few meals he will eat all of without a fuss!

First full week back at work after the summer holidays this week, and bloody hell, I'm knackered! Hips and lower back have been absolutely killing me by early evening every day, I hobble around like an old woman! Still, only four weeks to go until maternity leave :)

ladydolly · 13/09/2014 06:38

twiglet horrible story! How are you feeling now?

utopian99 · 13/09/2014 07:05

Good tip off eastmids - I love boden for ds! Just catching up as still in sicily.

Washing wise although this is dc2 I still plan to, definitely with anything new to remove chemicals as someone else said.

Changing bag wise we have the stokke one which matches the pram but dh bought me a sugarjack bag as we always planned to have more than one dc and given that you use it EVERY day and then you can take the compartment inserts out and use as a normal bag it's worth it.

Am starting to feel my pelvis separate a bit - same feeling as last time but I swear everything is happening earlier..

twiglet hope you and your poor horse are alright!

WinterLover · 13/09/2014 07:26

You'd think this being DC#2 id be calm about everything. Turns out im a wreck. lost part of my plug yesterday, haven't been to get checked as no other symptoms and no blood but im so scared im going to go even earlier with this one. On the plus DP and I have a child free weekend so plenty of rest and pottering around.

Had a crap night sleep again, don't think this worry is helping.

Re clothes, I washed and ironed everything last time, this time I washed and put it away. Only washed as everything was in storage and needed a freshen up. If its a girl I won't bother washing the girl clothes i have as my SIL has washed them all prior to giving them to me (my niece is 6 months old) boy clothes will be washed because they've been in storage for 3 years nearly to Grin

Annarose2014 · 13/09/2014 09:45

How did you know it was your plug if you don't mind me asking? Was it very obvious?

I would go in and get checked just for peace of mind, cos you you'll send yourself mad. Everytime you get a Braxton Hicks you'll freak out! At least if they tell you your cervix is still nice and thick or whatever you'll go home with some sense of relief.

Its too early to be spooking at every twinge - you're meant to be relaxing!

WinterLover · 13/09/2014 10:20

Thanks, yes definitely obvious but I remember clearly what it looked like when I lost it with DS. I lost it at 35 weeks with him, and had cramping/pains from 34 so really not too far off time wise, I just managed to keep him in till 36 weeks
