Thanks for the glasses tips (especially as they are entirely off-topic) I was thinking a sticker chart would be the way to go too.

Annarose I am so jealous. I have been on annual leave this week, and it has been great, not feeling like I am dying of exhaustion half the week. I have 4 weeks left at work, luckily have been asked to swap next week's night shifts to days to help a colleague out. Still really not looking forward to going back on Monday though.

Am Hull Winter - not sure if I'd be able to help...

Have signed up to a European Research Trial. DH forwarded me the email as they're short on pregnant women. It's about how the human body deals with a substance found in soil (and so gets into the food chain through wheats and fruit & veg). They just need 2 days worth of a food diary and FMU so I thought I'd go for it.

That's terrible barmy. I hope you told them that you'd been given incorrect info over the phone.

Lucky you Anna. 3 weeks to go here (although I've found another 3 days A/L - I forgot to add on Bank Hols that'll fall during my mat leave! - however those can be carried over.) and counting down.

Welcome to all the new people.

Hi, I've been catching up with discussions and been meaning to say hi but keep getting distracted!
Sounds like you're all doing well. I'm due 26 Nov and finishing work on 12 Nov so still 9 weeks ??
I've got a DS who's 2 but it's amazing how much has changed since I was pregnant last time. I'm having a whooping cough jab but not sure about having the flu jab-is everyone else doing it?
Also, any tips on where to hire a tens machine from?
I'm excited about meeting this new little one! We moved a year ago and so my biggest concern is finding someone to look after DS when I go into labour cos we don't live near family so starting a list of willing volunteers. It keeps my mind off the labour I suppose!

im meant to be going on holiday to Reighton Sands in 2 weeks (although the way things are ill be refusing to go) but as I have a higher chance of preterm delivery again I was wondering which would be the nearest hospital. I think its Scarborough as Blackpool isnt equipped for prr term delivery but im not sure.

Might all change anyway as baby has dropped already and Braxton hicks are at an all time high the past few daysSad

Just a quick one - a friend I saw yesterday has just texted to say that her son (17 months) has been diagnosed with chicken pox today. We fly to sicily tomorrow - is there anything I can do beside watch to see if it develops, and pack calpol and soothing gel? What are the implications for me, given that I'm pregnant BUT have had it when I was small?

Will cross everything for you winter..

utopian I think if you have had chickenpox once you have immunity for the rest of your life and you cannot get it anymore because you have antibodies in your blood. But for piece of mind maybe give a call your MW or GP? Enjoy your holiday lucky bastard! Grin

You can get your immunity tested by a nurse.

So, started to get myself organised for the "less glamorous" side of child birth this weekend...am now the proud owner of 8 gigantic pairs of black granny pants (Primark); 2 huge night-shirts (Primark); 3 packets of maternity pads (Boots); and a bottle of witch-hazel... can't wait Hmm

ladydolly · 07/09/2014 20:36

winter you see quite calm about it all, that's good!

Utopian I'd give that 111 number or your midwife a call and see what they say the risks are.

haven'tgotaclue I'm in the same process. Giant knickers all purchased and today my mum brought me round a pack of waterproof mattress liners in case my waters go in bed! Think I might pop one in DP's car as well, it's a company car and when my sisters went in mums car the stain never totally came out (ew).

So who's still commuting to work? You're total heroes. I went into london yesterday (hour on the train, 30 mins on the tube) and it was pretty horrif. No one gave up a seat, took me nearly the whole 7 minutes notice I had to waddle from the departures board to the train (luckily my sister had run ahead to get me a seat there) and I didn't even have to do the 'work' part in between.

utopian MY DD had chicken pox in May. I wasn't overly worried about me and the baby as I knew I had had as a child and know I am immune as I have been exposed at work as an adult. My midwife confirmed that it would most likely be ok but I could get my GP to do a blood test to check if I am definitely immune (I didn't bother, as I was pretty certain of my immunity and it was a bit late really as DD was almost recovered by that point).

winter I guess a philosophical approach and being prepared early is all you can do.

winter everything crossed that baby holds on a bit longer!
musicandbooks I'm not going to bother with flu jab. At this rate I won't have the whooping cough one either as my 12 year old midwife can't seem to keep on top of things Hmm if I can get it some other way I will do!
Anyone know what happens with GTT results? Should the 12yo have them or would the hospital just call me if there was something to worry about?

Report
Strawberryfield12 · 07/09/2014 22:30

lady it must be an unfortunate commute this time round. The trains from my station run so that I always get seat on train, but even though I have seen pg women getting on at hitchin and somebody would most of times give a seat up. And on tube people are brilliant, since end of July when bump popped properly, I only have to appear in the door when somebody is already getting up for me. Commuting to London is all right, although I enjoy a day or to working from home Wink
vicky with GTT I was told that in 7-10 days my MW would have them, but if there would be any problems, they would give me call immediately. Haven't heard back for 10'days now, so keep stuffing my cheeks with chocolate biscuites :)

Report
ToniWol · 08/09/2014 07:09

Vicky - I was told the same about the GTT. they'd contact me if there were any problems. I'm a month and a half on and not heard anything, and MW didn't even have them at my last appointment. So I'm suspecting everything's okay on that front.

Vicky just book whooping cough jab with practice nurse once you are 28weeks or more.

strawberry that is good to know. I wonder if its because I was going on weekend they weren't commuters, lots of tourists and it was busy. I'm back in for work next week and I was dreading it but hopefully it'll be more like your commute (especially as I'm on the same train line!).

Just seen asos has a sale on, maybe a bit late for maternity gear but I might pick up a couple of bits for post preggo when I'm not yet back in my normal clothes...

GTT, my normally scatty midwife booked me in the week before one of my appts so I could get my results then. She took me through the level and that it wasn't a concern.

Oooh thanks for the Aldi info - am a big fan as I have one 200 yards away (Oh the glamour of my neighbourhood!)

Today is the first proper day of my mat leave as I was doing my other job of Carer since I finished on Friday. Am still lying in bed with a cup of tea, with doggie snoozing in the sun at my feet, and I feel so released its amazing.

One wierd side effect of finishing work which I didn't anticipate - I have been hugely hormonal and emotional all weekend. I think I had such a tough life between the wards and the Carer job that I was grimly trudging through like a robot, and now I can relax, the floodgates have opened and I'm bawling my eyes out at everything.

Heard Nessun Dorma on the radio yesterday and I cried like a baby! Blush How embarressing!

But DH is being lovely and positively encouraging the crying! He thinks its good for me! "We can put on Titanic or something and you can cry all day!" Bless his heart.

Morning all! Hope everyone's feeling ok this week.

anna, congratulations on finishing work! Grin Enjoy some R&R for a few days before committing yourself to anything else.

Winter, keeping legs fingers crossed for you. Hopefully knowing it could happen will help you feel a bit more prepared if it does. Hope you've got plenty of support around you too and are able to get some rest and down time.

Had my first NCT class yesterday. DP was unable to come due to working, but luckily during the bits where I needed a 'partner' the trainee NCT lady stepped in for me. Slightly odd to have my lower back massaged by a complete stranger, but luckily we both had a bit of a giggle over it! Grin

Does anyone else have a tiresome return to full blown nausea? I feel quite pukey at times now and can't handle a lot of food at all.

Report
ladydolly · 08/09/2014 12:18

Oh Anna I do. I have to wear my seabands again and eat little and often. A new addition (TMI ALERT) is that if I sleep too soon after eating I wake up having actually been a little bit sick in my mouth and coughing and choking on it. So awful. Totally ruins afternoon napping.
Mine seems to be worse when I've been busy/overdoing it.

Also massively weepy and hormonal now but nothing to do with not working. I cried my eyes out yesterday because DP was away, he'd only been gone 24 hours and I missed him so much. Then on the radio was some chat about a daughter heading off to uni - wept again with the thought of my daughter growing up too quickly - she's not even born yet!! I need to get a grip...
