Strawberry and Weeonion - am with you on the Consultants thing. Mine (who I've never seen) wants Continuous Foetal Monitoring throughout labour, which would put the kibosh on a pool or active labour. So have booked an appointment with her to get an explanation. I know she'll say it's my BMI but as my BPs okay, the GTT came back fine and baby is measuring if not bang on then a little small, plus no problems found at scan, then I'm not sure exactly why she wants it. Plus if she spouts the thing about there being a limit on BMI for the pool I'll ask if it would be okay if I was the same weight but 6 inches taller. I understand the need to safeguard staff for manual handling but using BMI is silly as two people can be the same weight but have different BMIs due to height differences.

And breathe - rant over. Maybe I should see if I can register for a local intro to hypnobirthing session.

Will add myself to the list at lunch.

I have been getting a really funny pain in my right hip lately - I rode my pony this morning and he threw a bit of a wobbly, and it was quite sore afterwards. It's like a singular point of hot, achey pain right at the front of my hip joint. I think it must be muscular as it eased when I moved, a bit like a really localised cramp, but very unpleasant while it lasted! Hmm

I really want it to get to the end of the month now, it seems very depressing that it isn't payday October until the middle of next week. At the same time, we'll only be a month off baby time as of next week! I wonder how many we'll get in October? Grin I'm starting my acupuncture at 35 weeks in an effort not to go overdue, though October would be a little early as I need to work up until Halloween ideally.

I am a bit hyper this morning, sorry ladies. I had a sugar in my tea. I'm feeling a bit giddy with the imminence of the babies Grin

OP posts:
weeonion · 24/09/2014 11:24

Bit bad news at scan in that baby is still transverse. A week n half to move it. If not - admitted to hospital around 11-13th oct. If go unto labour whilst in there - emergency c section. If not - elective csection around 17th. So GOTTA get baby moved!! Feel gutted and deflated - been doing all spinning babies positionning etc and still no movement. Would be better if breech but transverse too risky for baby and myself with cord prolapse etc. Gotta head into work now, last place i wanna be!!!

I'm 33+2 now and I'm sick of work already. weeonion hope you can get that baby moved!

How do you know which way up they are? I can feel hard bits and soft bits but I can't work out what's a bum as opposed to a shoulder…

Kantha · 24/09/2014 11:52

Wee onion. That's rubbish news for you. Sorry to hear that. If you are doing all the spinning babies stuff already then there's not a lot else to suggest. I don't know if acupuncture or reflexology claims to help with positioning (stab in the dark)? I am quite jealous of your plans for a home birth, so I really hope you can turn that baby. I would be seriously considering it had DS1 not been an EMCS. DS2 was very easy VBAC, but they still want me in for monitoring, and I am happy to go with that advice.

I bailed out of taking DS bra shopping yesterday, he was tired, I was tired and we had already spent ages at hospital with MW and getting bloods done. Instead I have just done an online order for a couple of these bravado based upon a recommendation on the October thread. I have a very vivid memory of my milk coming in with DS2 and none of my M&S bras being anywhere near a fit. The next day I almost sobbed my way into Jojo and happened to buy a few of the basic Bravado ones which were so much more comfortable. The ones I have just ordered have the advantage of foam inserts which if you are large of nipple Blush can protect your modesty! And, whoever was saying that their boobs are quite small and haven't grown yet, just be prepared to wake up like Pamela Anderson when your milk comes in. To someone who normally lurks around the 36A mark it sounds amazing, but it's actually a bit grim. The good news is that it does settle down reasonably quickly thereafter.

All was fine at the MW yesterday. She did slightly alarm me by saying that I only had to keep the baby in for another week and a half and then they would be happy for me to deliver as it would be 36 weeks and 'term' by then. Shock

blamber · 24/09/2014 11:54

weeonion, hope baby will turn soon!

karma, the midwife will check too around the 32 week appointment. But check out the spinning babies website for baby mapping. You can identify the head/chest if you get hiccups or can pick up a heartbeat. You can feel where the back of the baby is by softly poking your belly and feeling where it's hard. Then you can often feel were the feet are because of kicks. It's difficult though, especially if like me you have an anterior placenta!

Twiglet you're making me excited and nervous talking about having only a month left soon!

kantha, that bra looks very comfortable. I got some from mothercare in the sale, but will have to see of they fit right. How do you know what size to order? I have gone up a cup size and a ribcage size, but will this change again after birth?

Argh! Well they should both be the same anyway.
Kantha posted at the same time as happypotamus so thought I'd just correct to put you both on.

Those bras do look good, might buy a couple of pairs. Thanks for the link!

Kantha · 24/09/2014 12:43

Thanks Moggle.

With bras, once your milk is in (day 4/5 ish from memory) the cup size will go up, initially dramatically (think Pamela Anderson), but then settle to bigger than pre pregnancy. However, your rib cage should get smaller because you no longer have a baby in you pushing your ribcage out.

So for me, roughly:
Pre preg: 36 A
Mid preg: 36 C
Late preg 38 B maybe (hence why I need bigger bras right now!
Milk in: 38 C poss even a D briefly
Breast feeding established: 36 C

The bravado ones are quite good for me as they are S, M, L and each size covers a range on normal bra sizes.

Annarose2014 · 24/09/2014 13:25

weeonion why are they rushing you so much? Whats the big deal about being transverse by the end of the first week in Oct if you're not due till 25th? I don't get it. Confused

oh no weeonion Sad im sorry its heading that way. I second spinning babies, worked for me with DS.

Well my day of rest hasn't gone to plan, what was a dog walk by the river ended in an almost 4 mile walk! On the sofa suffering now, proud of DS hes only just turned 3 and walked most of it, certainly hope that the fresh air will have helped his chest.

weeonion · 24/09/2014 15:21

ta folks

feel so down and gutted today. sitng in work weeping - thank god i only share an office with 1 person who is totally understanding. she knows how impt my homebirth was to me.

I have anterior placenta which means they woudl do external manovere and acupuncturists wont either - too risky for rupture and haemorrahge.

The timescale is that it is too risky to allow my waters to go - if that happens there could be cord prolapse and v dangerous for baby. They wont let me get too close to due date - hence admission from 38 weeks ( they actually wanted from 37 + 5 but i wanted a few days longer to move it.

This means i am moving off homebirth pathway onto hospital care - with a full on medicalised birth - the exact opposite of what i wanted. No offence to those who are going for elective c section but right at this moment - nothing feels worse to me. in hospital for up to 2 weeks with drip in hand with steroids and waiting an op. Sad

Annarose2014 · 24/09/2014 15:33

Do you have a history of cord prolapse? Would they be happy for a vaginal birth if baby was head down?

Have lots and lots of Cake

TwigletFiend · 24/09/2014 15:41

They might want to avoid an external version, weeonion, but you can still have regular acupuncture?

It might be worth trying a chiropractor too - they work on levelling out your pelvis, which levels out your uterus and might help baby feel comfortable enough to rotate downwards.

Brew and Thanks

OP posts:
weeonion · 24/09/2014 15:49

no history of cord prolapse.

totally happy for a vaginal home birth if head down or breech but transverse babies can only be born by c section!!

weeonion · 24/09/2014 15:50

twiglet - i spoke with 3 acupuncturists today who said they wouldnt do it if hospital werent prepared to do external version due to risks.

will check out chiropractor though.

TwigletFiend · 24/09/2014 16:18

weeonion, my DM (who is a retired physio and qualified acupuncturist) is on the case for you - she is doing some research via her various journals to see if she can find anything to help. For what it's worth, she has said that she has treated mothers with breech, frank breech and transverse babies and that studies have shown no heightened risk of placental abruption due to acupuncture therapy, anterior placenta or not. However, she says she will double check and find some hard evidence for you Smile

Definitely try the chiro, though. Cranial osteopathy is also safe in pregnancy and is supposed to be very effective? Might be worth looking into too?

OP posts:
weeonion · 24/09/2014 16:23

twiglet - thank you so much and thanks to dear twigmum too. x

Annarose2014 · 24/09/2014 17:07

Ah I see weeonion, if its any consolation my baby has been transverse for bloody weeks now. And I'm anterior placenta too.

I suspect the only difference between us is that I'm in a MW unit and its very hands off - they don't seem to care so far. I suppose at my 36 week check up they might get heavy about it. Oh and I was never home birth so maybe they don't care so much when you're gonna be in hospital anyway.

I want to start doing the spinning babies stuff but I can't quite figure out where baby is this week....whether left/right or right/left if you know what I mean. It doesn't seem to be footling as I have no pressure on my bladder. Am a bit scared I will get it wrong and end up turning it into tne wrong position!
