That's my thoughts too Eastmids. As Chris Rock says, insurance stands for 'in case shit happens!'

Annarose2014 · 16/09/2014 19:36

I wanted him to go through the insurance - after all what else is it for? But he's really worried about how it'll affect his premiums going forward, and just wants to throw a private check at it.

He's also worried cos the woman went home and her BIL is police and he told her she should report it as a matter of form. So she did! And she was saying on the phone to DH "Yeah, I didn't know you're supposed to report all traffic thingys, but apparently you are! Durrr!!" Hmm

It doesn't sound like the station paid much attention as it wasn't at speed or drink involved etc. (DH was going about 5mph as it was moving from a standstill) but now DH is really worried he'll get penalty points and Penalty Points + Insurance Claim = Huge Premiums from now on.

Considering he's a bit stressed with work too, and minding me, and noisy students moving in next door.....I'm just gonna let him do whatever he wants I think.

Annarose2014 · 16/09/2014 19:42

WorkFree tbh I would just "forget" to tell her you were in labour.

Cos you're in labour! Very preoccupied!

So whats the worst thing that happens? Afterwards you go "Oooops! So sorry Mum, but we weren't exactly able to go texting people!"

She'd never be able to prove it was on purpose! Grin

Vicky5910 · 16/09/2014 19:49

Ooh weeonion how many weeks are you and what is in a home birth kit? X

pinkgirlythoughts · 16/09/2014 20:41

I second not telling her until after baby is born, workfree. I went into labour with DS in the middle of the night, so we didn't even text anyone until about 6am, when they'd be starting to get up for work. It was really nice DH being able to phone everyone in the morning and announce :)

happypotamus · 16/09/2014 22:34

Workfree I had this kind of situation in my last pregnancy with my MIL, who announced that she would be coming to the hospital when I was in labour. She didn't even ask if this was ok or what we wanted. We pointed out that there would be nowhere to wait, and it was likely to be a long wait of many hours, and she said that was fine with her! She really upset me with the assumption that she would be there and that would be ok. Fortunately, DH agreed with me that we just wouldn't tell her when I was in labour, and we didn't. We ended up going to the hospital in the early hours of the morning anyway, so we justified it by not wanting to wake them (FIL would have had to come too to drive). They did get to be the first visitors very soon after the birth, as they were due round at our house that morning so DH had to tell them asap that we wouldn't be in, but we couldn't help that, and the midwives helped make sure they didn't stay too long. So, my advice is also just don't tell your mum when the time comes. Hopefully, she won't be upset by it after the event because she will be too excited by meeting her new grandchild. This time we will have to tell her as soon as I am in labour, because they will be looking after DD, which isn't ideal but we have no alternative and at least the childcare means they can't be at the hospital for the actual birth.

Kantha My 3yr old told me the other day that she had done some magic, gone inside my tummy and seen the baby, apparently it is a girl and has no hair!! I'm not going to ask her for opinions on names after she cried the other morning because she didn't like her own name and wished we had called her Peppa Pig instead!

I discovered this week that my manager had put me down for shifts all through October, including having me down to do a nightshift on my due date! She seemed to have completely forgotten/ not realised about my mat leave and the annual leave I am taking before it starts. She told me today that she couldn't understand how I had worked out that I was entitled to take so much annual leave beforehand although it had all been agreed months ago with a previous manager. I had to spend some time going through all my calculations and explaining to her how I had worked it out, and fortunately managed to persuade her I was right. I have been counting down my remaining shifts for a while now, and would have cried if she had said I had to do more.
My baby woke up just as I went to bed last night, and spent about 3hrs keeping me awake, leaping about and wriggling. I didn't get to sleep until after midnight, then kept waking up trying to get comfortable until I had to get up just before 6am for my 13hrs at work. I really hope that doesn't become a regular thing or I won't survive my remaining shifts.

ladydolly · 17/09/2014 02:57

Urgh, insomnia. Probably induced by work rather than pregnancy. There is no 'wind down' yet even though my mat cover has started. It's our busiest time of year. 5 am start tomorrow for a long day, already planning to see if I can get out of it early.

workfree My mum assumed she'd be in there too but I told her we'd decided it would be just me and DP. She's tried to wangle her way in since then ('if you put me down as 2nd birth partner then I won't have to follow the normal visiting hours which could be handy if you need anything' .... errrr no!!) so now we've also decided not to tell her when I'm in labour. In fact we're not telling anyone. My mil also used to be a maternity nurse at our hospital and is also trying to muscle in any way she can, reconnecting with old nurse friends and trying to find out who my midwife is. (I may have been found shouting 'if she finds out anything in advance I'll know it's her nurse mates and I'll sue them all!!!) I wonder if I can check in under a fake name like the celebs do in hotels... I just want to have my by in peace and privacy.

ToniWol · 17/09/2014 09:12

My Mum had asked about coming but given my sister wanted to be there as well they've both accepted that I couldn't choose between them. So will be just me and DH.

Not good for those with work issues. Am counting down to next Friday now.

Last night at Aquanatal was fun. Had got in the pool early and was chatting with a couple of the other ladies when the fire alarm went off! However it seems that it had done it a few times before that day so they just lined us up next to the fire exit while it was checked if it was another false alarm so we didn't have to go outside whilst soggy Grin.

We've arranged to go out for tea after the class in a few weeks time as well. Which should be fun.

Vicky5910 · 17/09/2014 09:42

Anyone's baby tryin to wriggle out of their foof?! I feel like baby is right down low, it's very odd! 30 weeks tomorrow :) I've been put on bed rest for the week after getting really dizzy last week. Still dizzy every day, headache is now continuous! Pah! :)

hotfuzzra · 17/09/2014 11:07

Baby not wriggling out of my foof (yet) but I had my first Braxton Hicks this morning!! My bump went all hard and thankfully I've been on MN since week 12 and had heard of them, I think I'd have been shitting myself if I hadn't!
Anyway I thought it was very exciting as I haven't experienced it so far.
I'm getting a lot of kicks in my ribs and chest area, I assume that means head is down. Yesterday I had some pains in my abdomen and then heard a MASSIVE rumbling (like tummy noise) but coming from my back/spine (?!) and a lot of pain down there.
Transpires I needed a big poo (sorry for tmi). Kept me giggling for ages...

amy83firsttimer · 17/09/2014 12:00

First attempt at perineal massage done. I'd bought latex gloves for DH as we both have herpes virus so don't want any risk of contamination in either direction. Anyway, he went on wikihow for instructions and did it for a couple of minutes before succumbing to RSI in his fingers!!! He has the good sense not to make a big deal of it thank god. Will try again tomorrow. It was quite funny actually and he's saying all the right things bless him.

Greenstone · 17/09/2014 12:04

I've started to get a lot of pelvic pain :( Also I'd still been wearing my normal size knickers and found that where the waistband was digging in a bit was excruciating - almost like a bruise, though they didn't feel that tight. So this morning I went and sized up my knickers! But yes Vicky - mine feels really low too.

I second the not telling anyone when you're in labour. We won't be able to avoid that the second time around because will need childcare, but for the first time - tell no-one! Everyone will be so excited to see the baby that all potential sulking will be forgotten about. Couldn't imagine the stress of having my mother or MIL rock up when I was in labour, as much as I get on with them both.

Annarose2014 · 17/09/2014 13:23

Mine appears to have turned itself transverse again. FFS! So now very uncomfortable sitting down unless I stretch my back out as it hurts my ribs. I have to lie on the sofa watching telly.

I'm OVER it. Grumpy as fuck today. Our dog bit me on the hand this morning and DH had a missed call from the police station following up on him scraping that car.

Isn't mat leave meant to be lovely?? I was promised it would be lovely!!! Angry

Am going to go into Boots now and pick up my Ewan The Dream Sheep order. Hopefully that'll cheer me up.

ladydolly · 17/09/2014 14:26

Every so often I get a very definite punch to the cervix, that is NOT fun at all and DP panics while I double over with an 'owwwww'. Luckily I've been at home every time it happens so far!

Anna I think you should have a nap with Euan, see if he comforts you on a shitty day.

moggle · 17/09/2014 14:52

Just waiting in the waiting room for my 31wk appointment which is with a GP. New health centre seems very nice and they were so helpful at sorting out all the appointments I needed in the next few weeks considering I was a brand new patient. Just had the whooping cough vaccine and the nurse asked if I wanted a flu one too as they'd just come in today so thought why not. Was glad someone on here mentioned about being careful which side you get them on, got them both on my left side as try as I might, I'm always way more comfy on my right...

TwigletFiend · 17/09/2014 16:58

It's a yes to baby trying to wriggle out! I also get extremely unnerving/uncomfortable grinding sensations, like Bean is physically pushing away at my cervix. Even more disturbingly, I keep getting punched in the err... back door Hmm.

I also have a lot of pain in my lower right ribs, which I'm hoping is feet. Feels like really bad stitch and can feel a lot of movement in that area, including kicks that tickle when they connect with my rib bones. It makes me jump a bloody mile!

Anna, I definitely think a cuddle and a nap with Ewan is in order - think of it as testing it out on baby's behalf!

Hope your appointment goes well, moggle, it's nice that they seem reassuringly professional.

Greenstone, I wore tights to work today and now have a similar problem. Ouch! I need to get home and change no, sir, I'm not Mumsnetting at my desk, honest

Hotfuzz, could you feel anything yourself or did you just notice that the bump was hard? No sign of BH here, which I'm quite grateful for as would have to resist the temptation to panic, but am v. curious!

Toni, clearly the prospect of having to announce an evacuation to a dozen or so pregnant, soggy ladies in their swimwear was too much for the staff to face Grin

Petal26 · 17/09/2014 17:37

Baby is definitely down low at the moment, midwife said he is head down so not getting much in the way of kicks in the foo foo but definitely did a couple of weeks ago, felt very odd!

Hope you're ok vicky, I've been feeling very dizzy myself.
Told the head at school today I'm not going to make it another 6 weeks, my low blood pressure is just making me feel weak all of the time. She responded with 'we'll advertise next week'.... Hmmm, told you 5 months ago!! Have got the deputy head on the case now!

We will have to tell MIL about labour for DD's childcare but my parents live 150 miles away so no risk of anyone being in the room with us!

hotfuzzra · 17/09/2014 18:03

Twiglet I think my hand was resting across bump and it just suddenly went rock hard! Normally it is very jelly-like. It was as though I had tensed all my 'abs' (ha I don't have abs!) and was totally solid. I kept prodding it and until I stood up it was hard. Then it softened and went back to normal. No pain or cramps whatsoever.

weeonion · 17/09/2014 18:20

evening folks!

loving all the birthing partners/ family chat! Thankfully my family live on another island and dp's family isnt interested / bothered about the birth (well the baby/ pregnancy/ me as well!!)

the lat time - i told no-one that i was in labour. the pre-labour daily checks and texts from well meaning friends etc of the "so - any movement/ contractions/ labour/ signs of baby???" type were more than enough. i didnt want the idea of being in labour knowing there was people out there clock watching / timing etc. Personally i cant imagine anything worse than a room of people 'cheerleading" on every contraction and push.....

i did succumb on the 2nd day and ring my mum for support when dp had gone out for a pizza. when i had my 3rd contraction in a 10 minutes call - i think she guessed what was going on Grin but there was no pressure to update her every short while as to progress. she pretty much left me to it.

vicky - I am 34.5 weeks - there is ALOT of kit! A v large holdall with god only knows what in it, a large workmanlike toolkit box, a bag with breathing apparatus and oxygen cannisters, a bag with gas n air cannisters and tubes etc, another lumpy bag - cannot work out what it is and another large box. Its all sealed so cant have a good nosy!
with all that and the birthing pool with box of pumps , inflators, tubes etc - our small flat is fit to burst!

pinkgirlythoughts · 17/09/2014 20:12

Petal, your head sounds about as useful as mine! My cover was finally appointed today, and I leave three weeks on Friday!

I lost part of my plug tonight- no pains or anything, so I'm not worried, as I lost it early with DS, and I know that it is fairly common to lose it early. DH worried me though, by telling me I needed to go and pack my hospital bag, 'just in case,' as "babies are born at 32 weeks, you know, it's not unheard of!" I'd better bloody not go into labour any time soon, I haven't bought any nappies yet, or any of the stuff I need for myself!

Strawberryfield12 · 17/09/2014 20:40

My baby is cruising at the moment, during the last week she did a full circle - from being sat on my right she turned on her side head left and bum right, then she turned head down. On Monday night she was back in my right, head poking out. Yesterday I had my 30 weeks appointment and today she is back on her side with head in my left and bum in my right... Hopefully one day she stays in place in it will be head down....

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 18/09/2014 06:49

30weeks today and after this week only 4weeks left of work hooray!!

moggle · 18/09/2014 09:33

Argh feel like poo today :-( I'm blaming the flu jab, got body aches and a head ache, all pretty mild though. I only have to sit in a training course all day and listen to people talk, so came into work and hopefully can ride it out on paracetamol.

I have decided baby doesn't like GPs - the two times a GP has tried to find the heartbeat with a doppler they have taken more than 5 minutes to locate it! but midwives seem to find it immediately. Naughty baby :-) Luckily it continually somersaults while they're searching, so the doctors never get worried for long!

Vicky5910 · 18/09/2014 11:18

Get well soon moggle, this last part sucks when all the gripes start getting worse!
Eastmids I'm 30 weeks too! Woohoo! I should probably start getting stuff. Head in the sand... We were supposed to have moved in July and still not anywhere near. So annoying! I don't want to have to move all the baby stuff as well as all our crap too.
My husband bought me a house full of chocolate yesterday to keep me busy while signed off for the week :D stuffing my face and watching lots of CSI. Yay!

Vicky5910 · 18/09/2014 11:19

weeonion I hope my home birth stuff comes after the move :/ sounds like a lot!
