I can't be the only one due in May 2015... So here goes, a shiny new thread.

I have to sneak in here to discuss all things pregnancy/baby related because this is a surprise DC5! Shhhh! Don't tell anyone!

OP posts:

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 11/09/2014 12:53

All these teachers. Grin Good holidays, then?

I shouldn't joke. I'm going to get so many comments myself as my DS is a May baby and so is this one. To make matters worse, my birthday is also May and so is DH's!

8 weeks seems to be the standard then. Hmm. I'm wondering how 'precious' I'm going to come across then, when I ask for an earlier appointment. I need to have testing done that is time sensitive, thanks to my history, so the first scan is pretty important to me and it has to be done bang on time.

Do you think it would be out of order to ask to see the midwife, then see if I can get an early scan for dating purposes, so the 12 week one can be timed correctly?

Sunshinesaz86 · 11/09/2014 12:54

welcome ginger and fluffeh! congrats to you both.

glad you survived your party piglet, (was it a drinking night?) ive been asked out on friday for drinks, luckily declined as working sat, also have another night out at the end of the month but luckily working the sat again so good excuse not to drink!

hope you start feeling better noroom.

I keep waiting until just before i go to sleep to have my 7th millionth pee of the day only to wake up needing one at about 6.30am and then not being able to get back to sleep! :( seriously not cool, but i also dont mind at its due to having a little growing bean.

Thepurplegiraffe · 11/09/2014 13:02

BB01 I am still feeding dc1 once a day as well but I think I am about to stop as she just doesn't seem to be getting enough from me.

Thepurplegiraffe · 11/09/2014 13:07

I have a night out tonight with my nct girls. I always have a drink when we get together so imagine they might get suspicious. But what can you do. They are unlikely to ask at least.

I am having to go to the loo 3 or 4 times in the night at the moment, but then I have always been pretty bad and the night wake ups with dc 1 don't help.

piglet81 · 11/09/2014 13:14

Yes, sunshine, it was, and a work thing so couldn't get out of it! Managed not to incur too many raised eyebrows with my soft drinks, but some people are surprisingly nosy! Had several people who i hadn't seen since getting married ask me if we were planning a baby. Mind your own beeswax, people! Quite funny to be thinking 'well, as it happens...' but kept my lips zipped Wink

Biscuit, I think that sounds perfectly reasonable. Presumably they can access your records from before so will know why you need an early scan. Good luck - i hope it goes OK.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 11/09/2014 13:59

I found out my local hospital does reassurance scans privately for £45, which I think is reasonable. The money goes straight back to the hospital too. If I can't get an earlier one for free, I think I might pay for one around 8 weeks.

Mslad · 11/09/2014 14:03

Hello all, can I join? I got my bfp on Monday. I had a mmc in June so I'm a stressed, nervous wreck at the moment. Wish I could be a little positive but am struggling. However I've read back through this thread and you have helped a little. Smile I'm completely undecided about getting an early scan (I live in Holland where it's no extra money) but had one last time which was fine, so I'm wondering if there's any point....

Sorry for being so negative, I promise I won't be in the future, I'm just getting it out of the way Smile

my stats: age 33, DC1, due May 18 (I think, I'm a bit confused as I'm such a late ovulater!)

Good luck girls on this May bus journey!!!

Thepurplegiraffe · 11/09/2014 14:08

Welcome mslad and congratulations. It is completely understandable that you are worried given what you have been through. I am too and have no good reason to be but there is every chance this one will be fine. I think somebody said earlier on the thread it is great to say for now I am pregnant!

Biscuit given that you have such a good reason I hope you can get the scan free but if not you should defo go for it.

I have just booked my dr appointment which won't be till the 25th September. Guessing that means that nothing else will be arranged until then...

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 11/09/2014 14:47

Congratulations Mslad! I'm a late ovulator too. I charted this cycle and didn't ovulate until day 19. It gives me a due date of May 23rd. The first day of my LMP was the 12th of August.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 11/09/2014 14:48

I've done bugger all today. I need to stop checking in on this thread and go and sort out my laundry!

Mslad · 11/09/2014 15:04

somesort do you worry that late ovulation is not necessarily a good thing? I don't know why I have that niggling thought but I do. I think I ovulated day 26! Oh and I have completely done bugger all here today too. Blush

Has anyone here had a puppy while pregnant? In April we decided to get a puppy, then I found out I was pg and we decided it would be a bad idea- then mmc. Just last week we agreed again to get one, and found one (not thinking at all that I'd get pg this quickly), I'm like 'Is this some kind of joke?- get puppy, and get pregnant again!' I feel like I want to go ahead and let what will be, be. Am I crazy?

Gingerbreadlady1 · 11/09/2014 15:11

Thanks for the welcome. mslad, think we're twins! I had a mc in June, am a late ovulator (cd21 this cycle) & got a puppy 5wks ago to help get over mc! Now (hopefully) will have a puppy & a baby. The pup is hard work but so worth it. Actually think the distraction of him too my mind of ttc leading to bfp!

Fluffeh · 11/09/2014 15:28

BB01 and purple, I initially intended to feed DD until she self weaned which I was hoping would be around 2-3 years so hopefully she'll still want to and it will work with tandem feeding. I had a really difficult start to bf'ing her. It took 5 months of top ups until I was ebf'ing so I'm hoping that if she keeps feeding dc2 should be good to go from day 1.
If not I'll have to see how it goes.
She still feeds a minimum of 4 times a day usually 6-8 times.
I have a GP appointment for tomorrow to review my medications and arrange an appointment with my specialists who will need to know my news.
Also hopefully I can get back with the caseload midwifery team I had last time as they were lovely and really helped me relax towards the end.

Mslad · 11/09/2014 15:30

Ginger thats really freaky!!! So glad to hear it's worth it though Smile

Blondie87 · 11/09/2014 15:54

Got my MW appointment in just under 2 weeks when I'm 6w 3d. I agree, one little milestone at a time. Sticky baby dust to all!

Thepurplegiraffe · 11/09/2014 16:24

No idea when I will get a mw appointment if my dr appointment isn't for 2 week...

Arendsmummy · 11/09/2014 16:31

Hi ladies not posted for awhile
Welcome & congrats to the newbies
Having really bad sickness ATM
Vomiting in the morning and feeling sick all day it's awful but it's reassuring!
I had a early midwife app but because i moved home ( only 10 mins away but different county) since having DS and want to have scans and baby at same hospital they have to refer me have to wait 10 days for letter with another midwife app so don't think I'll be seeing midwife till gone 9ish weeks hope my scan date isn't delayed
Can't wait for Saturday 7 weeks Grin

NoRoomForALittleOne · 11/09/2014 16:42

My first midwife appt is tomorrow at 6+6 but it's not a booking appt, apparently it's a pre-booking appt. No idea what she'll do.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 11/09/2014 16:44

Mslad, nope. It's not late ovulation that's a bad thing. It's if you have a short luteal phase, which is the bit after ovulation (sorry if I'm teaching anyone to suck eggs). If it's short, there's less time for implantation to happen and it can cause problems conceiving because nothing will ever get to stick before your period happens. I suppose some people might be late ovulators and then have a short luteal phase, but it wouldn't be the late ovulation that caused any issues.

I used to be a day 17 ov-er, with a 30-31 day cycle. Then I went to really short cycles of 26 - 28 which were short for me, and I think that's when I wasn't ovulating because of medication. Then I went to longer cycles of 31-33 days because my ovulation shifted even later, but it wasn't a problem because the luteal phase didn't shorten.

I am a NERD.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 11/09/2014 16:50

It's all moot anyway, because if we're pregnant, the luteal phase was obviously long enough for implantation to take place.

I think the only issue late ovulation can cause is a slightly inaccurate due date, if the midwife uses the standard 'ovulation on day 14, cycle length 28' wheel thing to give a due date. I ovulated on day 19 so it would give me a due date of five days earlier than it should be. I know the scan will show the true foetal age and THAT could be an issue too, for a woman who didn't know she was a late ovulator, as the scan would show a foetus smaller than expected. I'm prepared to be told that, actually, but it won't panic me because I know my stuff.

See? Nerd. Told you. Grin

LinaDee · 11/09/2014 16:55

NoRoom. You should get your notes and the midwife will take down some basic details and things.

I've just got my hcg results again. From 14,997 2 days ago to 19,000- something.
Got my scan tomorrow morning. Even my DH has conceded that this isn't looking good.
Im so worried.

KittyVonCatsington · 11/09/2014 17:12

Gingerbreadlady and MsLad - really good to see you both from the Conception boards - am over the moon at your BFPs Grin I completely understand the joy mixed with fear I still feel like a rabbit caught in headlights in case the worst happens again and I hope we can all help you through the next 12 weeks and beyond xx

ThisisRock - Thanks! I am just really keen to see a familiar face prior during and after especially after What I like about Call the Midwife is that back then, you had the same midwives from start to finish and I would love to experience a similar type of assistance by using the services of a doula. I've already checked out who is near me and can't wait to be at the stage where I can contact them!

WRT to Internet cheapies, I think they are great to check if there is a faint line first otherwise I would have continued to spend 40 quid a month for a year! and then confirm it with a FRER or Digi Smile

Biscuit My 12 week scan is being called the dating scan, so I don't know if the NHS will do an earlier dating scan as well so the 45 pound option looks good. No harm in asking though!

Hi Sunshine One of my constants since 11dpo has been to wake up between 4-5am desparate for a wee and then being wide awake after! Could be why I am crashing in the afternoon Grin

Lina Poor love, you must be terrified. Remember, it is going up and not down and 19000 is a lovely large number at this stage. Yes, I know they expect on average for them to double every 48 hours but equally, they would go down, surely if the little bean had not survived? Thinking of you Thanks

MsMittens · 11/09/2014 17:12

Hi all,

Hugs to all of those who have had recent mc or feeling generally negative about these tiny humans we are all growing. Hopefully this is your time and at least you can say (as someone pointed out on the thread earlier) today I am pregnant and that is good. Super positive vibes to all.

As for dogs and little people, we had a 1yr old French bulldog (who sadly died in dec last year) but he was wonderful with our DC1 and I loved having him around when I was pregnant and on mat. leave and we have a 1yr old bulldog now who is my daughters best pal in the world. But it can be very time consuming have a baby or a puppy so please think about whether you can give the pup all the attention they need before and after your lovely DCs come along. I'm not going to lie, there have been times when I have rued taking on the additional responsibility (even though I consider our dog as part of the family!). Just think it though but f it is right for you it is amazing!!

My day today has been spent getting very emotional about all kinds of things. Particularly all the 9/11 stuff is making me well up (reasonable) But so did the fact that someone else had eaten the last apple (totally unreasonable) Blush

Turquoisetamborine · 11/09/2014 17:31

Lina it's still going up which is great. I hope it's just a slow grower. Thinking of you xx

I've got my midwife appt booked for 6+6. They said i would have to wait another four weeks after that if I didn't have that one and I'll need early monitoring so took that one. I also have a seven week scan on 30th sept at my ivf clinic.
I'm just trying to take things one day at a time and not think of it as a twelve week stretch but look ahead to small milestones.

GetTheRedOut · 11/09/2014 17:33

Is everyone being booked in for midwife appointments around week 8 then? I'm 6+6 and haven't heard a dickie bird about any midwife appointments so I called my doctors surgery today and they said I won't be hearing anything until 11 weeks.. Is that right?

I'm a bit worried now :( maybe I've been forgotten?
