Hi Ladies thread 3!! 2nd Trimester we are on a roll!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
GeekyHybrid · 15/09/2014 18:24

Poor you Memphis - at least it's an excuse to go shoe shopping ;-D
I've got to admit I haven't worn really flat or silly shoes for years, a bout of shin splints that left me taking the max dose of codeine for 2 years changed by shoe habits for life, I still have prescription insoles for my work boots as a preventative measure. But, you can wear flat shoes, they just have to have room for insoles :-$ I'm yet to find a pair of ballet bumps that do that!

As for quick births, my friend went into the birthing pool, the only pain relief was 2 paracetamol and a few hours later had a little girl. I've told the midwife and consultant that that's my plan, they both made sure that I knew it wasn't typical and then smiled at my optimism. But it can be done. And it was her first. Fingers crossed etc..

Memphisbelly · 15/09/2014 18:35

Geeky I only wear heels if I go out on the town which won't happen for a while but I live in converse, they are really flat, they took some getting used to at first but now I own 7 pairs and even got some as my wedding shoes. I hate 'proper' shoe shopping Next had some loafers but the 6 were massive and 5's tiny!
Hecdid say if it was a long term thing he would recommend steriod injections and custom arches but he thinks if I do stretches and change my footwear only my posture changes over the next month I will be ok so said to get boots one.

I am so grumpy though no cheese, no wine, no proper coffee, no beer no rare steak and now no converse

donkir · 15/09/2014 19:22

Memphis that's exactly what I have and I live in my converse. My doctor recommended rolling the arch of my foot over a tin can for 5 mins 3 times a day. I would definitely get some inserts these helped me within a week and I wear them in my boots and my beloved converse.

Memphisbelly · 15/09/2014 19:29

Donkir....really? Oh my god I am grinning like mad now very happy indeed. Yes he said about stretches and the tin cans.

donkir · 15/09/2014 19:54

Yup really, I got my insoles from boots. They're called Orthaheel. I'm a size 5 and the small size fit into both my pairs of converse and my winter boots. They're quite expensive for what they are but probably a lot cheaper than specially made ones.
I can't promise it will work for you but they definitely work for me. You must wear them all the time though. I tried wearing flip flops in the holidays and within the day my feet were killing.

Memphisbelly · 15/09/2014 20:07

Yes he did say people often come back off holiday with it due to flip flop wearing. Well I think flip flop season may be out now so I should be ok, you have seriously cheered me up, the thought of traipsing the shops with sore feet was soul destroying....boots is right near my work so I will be there first thing

Viperama · 15/09/2014 21:00

The only time I've gotten flu was when I had the jab! I'm not getting one, it's just a mix of prev flu bugs and I don't want to expose baby to that. In fact I need to read up on vaccines in general as I'm not keen on them once little one arrives either. I'm very much a hippy in this respect.

Memphisbelly · 15/09/2014 21:07

Viper I too have been reading up on it tonight, im still torn on flu vaccine as I am eligable for it every year but never had it as I heard you can then get flu, I had flu once and with my illness it knocked me for 6, a month in bed hallucinating, lost a stone in weight, don't want that again.

My friend hasn't vaccinated her kids and although sticks by her decision she has had so much trouble from docs, nurses and this week with her dd starting school calls from the school Shock luckily she is armed with all the info she needs to shut them up but it still get spouted at every opportunity.

Ticktick · 15/09/2014 22:20

Just notice a feb in the pregnancy chat section about having a feb / march baby. Lots of positive things being said, its made me feel really excited :)

BanglesSpangles · 15/09/2014 22:52

So are we trying to say that all our feet have been buggered up by overly flat shoes?

Just walked a mile going to the theatre with work and now my right foot is equally as bad as my left. I will never ever learn

Tick- I was reading that thread a bit ago- everyone was coming up for such good reasons for having February babies that I felt a little bit smug Grin

Memphisbelly · 15/09/2014 23:05

That thead is lovely I cannot wait to be able to wrap up and eat comfort food. ds was July born and I hated gettiing my jelly belly out on show in a thin t shirt. Plus loving all baby blankets and cardis.
Only downside I can see is being Jan born myself I never know what I want for my bday and then its nearly a year until the next present haul

Viperama · 15/09/2014 23:36

Memphis I can only imagine it must be tough with school nurseries etc when your kids aren't vacs. I've a 'friend' on fb who every once in a while posts some 'anti vaxer' info. It's personal choice, pharmas aren't god. Not sure about here but in Canada some nurses have been threatened with losing their jobs for not being vaccinated. Funny old world.

I'm a December baby, later this bump arrives the better in my opinion.

Viperama · 16/09/2014 00:13

Meant to say fb friend posts anti anti-vaxer info! But I'm keeping an open mind.

HerRoyalNotness · 16/09/2014 00:19

bangles you made me laugh!!

memphis hope you get some relief, sounds painful

DS1s school wouldn't register him until he had his vaccines caught up! The date for his 8week shots was written wrong and they made me. all the UK to get the record from the dr surgery to prove he'd had them ffs. We could have signed an objection form but I heard that if there is an outbreak of chickenpox etc your unvaccinated child has to stay off school for 2 weeks! DS2s preschool wasn't that bad and he is behind in some, we will get him caught up before kindergarten starts.

I've just been signed off on bed rest for the rest of the week. Have been bleeding and thought it had stopped yesterday after a weekend resting. Then started again today and had a massive bleed just as I left work so went to doctor. Baby is fine, leaning back, sucking her thumb. See dr again on Thursday. I should be grateful I'm in the US and she will see me every day If I need it

Memphisbelly · 16/09/2014 07:29

Herroyal my friend is in process of getting his Green card (think that is what it is) and he has had to have most of his vacs again as there wasn't record of them and they won't let him apply without all of them. Shock
Hope you are ok after a week of bedredt...trashy tv for you this week Wink
Viper ds will be having all of his vaccines for selfish reasons I cannot risk myself getting these illnesses because of my illness its too risky as I was never vaccinated. i got measles and whooping cough as a teen and I have never been right since but they won't vaccinate me on nhs now.

Memphisbelly · 16/09/2014 08:17

Have to say I love this thread too, its nice to hear other peoples wants and needs from pregnancy/having kids. Some baby related places are so 'you should breastfeed/ birth naturally/ do every thing everyone else in your friendship group does' Smile

freneticfox · 16/09/2014 08:47

I was reading that thread earlier, was a definite pick-me-up! I know some people have really nice experiences of being December babies... I was born a few days after Christmas and while my parents ALWAYS made an effort to separate Xmas and Birthday, as I grew older I noticed it was a non-issue for most people around me. People are broke from Christmas and saving for a New Year blow out.

And don't get me started on Christmas cards that say 'and happy birthday' in brackets!

That said, I know there have been occasions where snow has been a problem in February, hoping that's not the case in 2015!

Bimberley · 16/09/2014 08:50

I won't be having flu jab.
I'm really funny when it comes to putting stuff in my body.

Baby has been moving loads this morning. Have felt proper movements not just kicks. My whole belly was moving. I love the feeling.

I'm feeling super nervous today as DD starts school tomorrow! Trying to not let my anxiety creep back up on me :(

donkir · 16/09/2014 09:02

I also have a Christmas bday and I hate it. I never had a bday party as nobody ever came. Or bday cake as was a waste of money when we had so much food left over from Christmas. I always got half of what my brother got for his august birthday. Not that I'm bitter ha ha.
I love my bday now though I make sure every year we see a panto as my pressie.
Undecided on the jab. I've never had flu and work with children so feel I'm pretty immune. On the other hand it will be Sod's law I get it this year.

sandulacek · 16/09/2014 09:36

Morning!

I'm not decided on the flu jab. I had one about 11 years ago and suffered with a major flu for about 2 weeks straight after. However had it about 3 years back and that was absolutely fine. Decisions decisions Confused

on another note I got sucked into doing few old wives tests yesterday. Both baking soda and Chinese calendar came back with a girl! And my friend's friend saw the scan pic and said a girl too! Eek have to wait 3 weeks for a proper scientific test Grin

BanglesSpangles · 16/09/2014 10:57

Memphis- totally agree- I like that everyone's un-judgey, and I've considered things that I might not have done just because it's been mentioned in passing rather than rammed down my throat

An excellent bunch of relative strangers, we are!

StarFox21 · 16/09/2014 11:40

Hello ladies! Can I join!

donkir · 16/09/2014 12:15

Welcome to the club Star and congrats on number 2.

Viperama · 16/09/2014 12:18

Welcome Star!

I third how fab you all are on this thread, it's great to be able to discuss all sorts of things openly and hear other points of view without judgement.

I've my 20 week scan tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait! Little one is pretty active. Ladies if you haven't felt anything for a while in weeks to come and get anxious, just go and have your teeth cleaned. My little tiger went bezerk at the dentist late last week. Oh and it's pushing now, knows I'm talking about it!! Smile

BanglesSpangles · 16/09/2014 12:36

Anyway- spreadsheet, you're on it- welcome to team february!
